  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

The world's top jockeys? That Japanese bloke is bog standard' date=' that American lady ain't worth a curse on a horse... James Doyle may be no wonder, but he is a very good jockey in his own right, and he gave Sun Central a very good ride to WIN! Also, didn't GB and Ireland win last year? Hardly embarrasing...[/quote'] All I'm saying is if you are going to pick a team to represent this GB and Ireland pick the best available. Why no Daryll Holland or Michael Hills ?? That Japanese bloke has won bucket loads of top races , even for top trainer SB Suroor. He even won the Group 1 July Cup many years ago .
  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

It is a bit odd. Could they not just have normal silks but with different caps? Ie. Different shades of blue for one team' date=' different shades of green for another, red etc? Or just all green caps with spots, stripes on them etc for one team?[/quote'] They have tried that along with different team formats and celebrity team captains , you'd have thought they would have come up with a decent format after all these years. Thank god its only once a year.
  3. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Who bloo-dy selected J Doyle to represent GB and Ireland ? I don't think he's even won a domestic Group 1 !! They must be laughing at us , having such a under decorated jockey to represent us against the Worlds top jockeys . Remember last year we were captained by another jockey who hadn't won a domestic race at the highest level. Embaressing .

  4. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Bloody knew it. Right horse. Wrong jockey. Beaten a head/neck. Yutaka Take is pretty weak. Hope he's better in the next!! (Sour grapes). Serves me right for punting on this card, it's a bit of a nightmare. He just reminds me of an inexperienced jockey who just stands up and smacks the horse.
Give the guy a break , he's had very few rides in this country , you sound just like P Chappel Hyam after his 1994 ride on White Muzzle.
  5. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Absolutely fantastic to see multiple Group 1 top jockey D Holland get a 4 timer this afternoon , he has shown that he is still one of the best riders today. Shame a lot of top trainers have turned their back on him in recent years.

  6. Miss SM Stack daughter of successful Irish trainer recieved a 14 day ban for not riding out for the best possible placing on Monday evening at Carlisle , it was her first ride in the UK and having only had 1 other ride in Ireland. Richard Hughes a brilliant but lazy jockey who is on fire at the moment when he's in contention for a win is had a 4 timer yesterday afternoon , his other 2 rides were as ususal last and second last when all chance of a win has gone. Hughes very often does not ride out for the best possible placing when why doesn't he get similar bans ? I'm sure a lot of you will remember amateur Miss L Probert a couple of years ago having her first ever ride only to tire in the final furlong and comming second on a fav. She was given the maximum punishment of 28 day which was applicable on days which had amateur racing which in effect meant she was banned for 6 months !!!! In these 2 examples both riders were inexperienced but given very hefty sentences however day in and day out we see professional jockeys not getting the best possible placing and they get no form of punishment. Very frustrating if you are gambling on a place , betting on distances or match betting. To me this is very unfair to amateurs / inexperienced jockeys and also to punters . Laura Probert had a ride the following week before starting her 6 month ban , but we have not seen her again . There may be reasons which we don't know why , but it wouldn't surprise me if she quit after being treated so unfairly.

  7. Re: Investing small amounts of money weekly for the antepost market. I do very few ante post bets these days, simply because you are not guarenteed it will make the line up. If a horse was 20/1 but it was 8 months away , i would much rather have double the stake a week / few days before the event. I don't know how long you have been punting but I'm sure you will be familiar with major results of the last few years. Look back at the 2011 , 2010 , 2009 , 2008 Cheltenham festivals and figure out if you could have predicted those results in August , October , December , Feburary. Its quite likely the closer to the event the easier it becomes. Also some races you could not have predicted on the day so they might be races you may wish to avoid.

  8. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I read that the long time ante post fav for the Goodwood Mile Trade Commissioner was withdrawn for not eating up . Its something we punters can not check or verify. At the same time we find out he was drawn 21 of 21. We see this happening all the time whether true or not , especially at Chester when they get a coffin draw.

  9. Re: The Jockey Thread

Richard Hughes - Champion Jockey for Goodwood Festival.... Well Mr Hughes - whatever the prize is, after that ride on Dominate, I suggest you give it back!!! Arse... Word was obviously out I had availed myself of 100/30. Twot!!! :(
Very lazy jockey but talented jockey , brilliant win or doesn't bother riding out for a place if no chance of winning.
  10. Re: Frankel Tomorrow

Can you not see how much he has improved this season? Pure commentary? Compare the Guineas run with this years races. Ok in the Sussex and QEII last year he was halfway there and in the Lockinge this year you could see how much he had progressed mentally. If you dont understand that Id give up.
You are correct its all about opinion and we are all entitled to them , just like we are entitled to challenge them. As I said earlier , how can we truly understand the mentality of horses and make statements about them. I hold my hands up and say I don't undersatnd that but that doesn't mean I should give up. Progression is applicable to most horses from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 , even donkeys , claimers and sellers.
  11. Re: Frankel Tomorrow

He will win over 1m2 twice this season, retire on 15/15 and be the greatest racehorse ever. They are not avoiding horses in other divisions, he would have won the King George if he ran in it. Can you not see why he was never going to run at more than a mile last year? He is so much more mature this season and has finally learnt to use and control his incredible power and strength. Was this a fish? You got me
You can't say for certain he'll win over 1m2f , its very likely but there are no certainties. Same applies to the King George if he ran. Why 3 races over a mile , what has he proved this year execpt he is in the same/better form as last year. He's had ample time time to step up in trip but they haven't. Prior to the 2000 Guineas last year they were considering the Derby as an option , the way he ran his race suggested the Epsom Derby at that moment in time wouldn't suit so they kept him at a mile. As for the last part of your statement about finally learning to control his power and strength. That is just pure commentary. What does that actually mean ?Do you have insider knowledge? Are you able to speak to horses? Fish ?
  12. Re: Stick to the first colours !

Always an odd one. Good job I didn't go with the colours in the Derby a couple of years back. Workforce 1st' date=' Bullet Train last :lol[/quote'] I did say somewhere it is a blind indicator. Obviuosly you need to judge for yourself under the circumstances. Bullet Train at the time was better fancied by connections at the time. The same connections got it wrong 17 years earlier in the Derby , the Cecil/Abudulla even money shot Tenby was beaten by the green cap of the Cecil/Abdulla's Commander in Chief. Like i said its a blind indicator , which has served me well over the years.
  13. Re: Stick to the first colours ! Sheikh Maktoum in todays 2.25 Goodwood had 2 trained by M Johnston , the first colours with the red cap (16/1) looked like the likely winner inside the final furlong but was overtaken in the last few yards eventually comming 4th whilst the yellow cap(17/2) was further down the field. Obviously the colours are a bigger blind indicator of chance rather than odds in some circumstances.

  14. Re: Stick to the first colours ! AD Spence had 2 horses in the 2.00 Goodwood , Cape Express 7/1 and Hurricane Higgins 14/1 ( 28/1 early doors ) Hurricane Higgins had the first set of colours and the favorite had the second set of colours. They finished as the clolours suggested and not as the betting suggested with Hirricane Higgins winning.

  15. Re: Frankel Tomorrow Why don't they they run Frankel over longer distances like 1m2f and 1m4f ? His full younger brother gets the trip. His full older brother won the Lingfield Derby Trail. Seems they are keen to keep his unbeaten record by avoiding horses in other divisions.

  16. Re: The Jockey Thread

Cai Shen in the 2:00 at Goodwood today. Richard Hughes continues to provide facepalm after facepalm this season and watching rides like this does little to dissuade one of the notion that he is riding poorly at the moment.
As I've said many times on here he is a briliant but lazy jockey , its a top ride or he doesn't bother if its not going to win
  17. I like place only betting across various mediums like fixed odds , Betfair place and Tote place. I don't particularly abide by by a staking system , I just bet place only with the view to win back some of the losing money on other betting markets such as the win / placepots / trifecta /distances etc. This year like some others I presume has not gone very well , a factor being the wet weather producing unpredictable results amongst others. At the moment my bankroll is used for all types of gambling which includes sport betting and poker. I am willing to put aside 1000 betting units specifically for place only betting with the view to increase it at a steady rate. My current place bet size normally ranges from 10 to 40 units , on occassions when I'm chasing or being greedy I've gone up to 200 units sometimes more which is very undisciplined of me. I've been punting many years and am still learning . What I need is a fresh approach from fellow punters to give me ideas , so I /we can move forward. Obviously I understand punting is results based and I need to pick the right selections in order to succeed but a decent staking plan may prevent me from falling off a cliff. Can anybody help ?

  18. Got a mailshot from Elite Racing Club today offering half price membership for 12 months , £92.50 instead of £185 , which seems very good value. You get many benefits like a weekly newsletter , a share in the prizemoney , information hotline , stable visits and discounted racecourse tickets. I want to ask if any of you members are or were in the past a member of ERC and would you reccommend it. I'm considering joining purely for the inside information for punting purposes. I can't imagine the return from prizemoney will amount to much more than the cost of a meal. Can anybody reccommend it or otherwise ? Is there any other racing clubs worth considering at a similar budget ?

  19. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread We see many Irish raiders in the UK of all types from lowly rated over jumps to top class horses , yet it does not seem to be reciprocated by UK trainers despite Irish prizemoney being higher. I know Mark Johnston sometimes sends his horses to Dundalk and you get the occassional group class raider , but on the whole not many take the opportunity for some reason. I know the Queen didn't for political reasons for many years but that ended last year with Carlton House in the Irish Derby.
