  1. Re: Reckless Abandon bought by Darley Godolphin have done this a few times . The great Daylami , owned by the Aga Khan and trained in France as a 2 / 3YO , was transfered to multiple Gr1 winner Saeed Bin Suroor to continue his training where he won multiple Gr1s for a further 2 seasons including the King George , once retired he went back to the Aga Khan to begin stallion duties.

  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread This year there was no 3YOs but in previous years you would need a Gr3 / Gr2 rated 3YO in order to make the line up . This is because 3YOs get something like a 12lb weight allowance from older horses . So the best horses don't neccesarily make the lineup , rather unfair because isn't it the richest handicap in Europe ?

  3. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

No problem with that Erhaab - I'm just arrogant enough to think that noone can have an opinion that is so different from my own! :spank I can't help it!! Good Luck to you - don't mean to be disagreeable.
I enjoy this forum more when others have differing opinions , I look forward to more debates with you Saint .
  4. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

I am starting to think you are a professional 'fisherman' and I'm taking the bait hook, line n sinker!!
Just having a chat about racing , we all have differeing opinions , wouldn't it be boring if we all backed the same horses . If you agree , fine , if you don't agree thats fine also. If everybody agrees with everything , wouldn't this section of the forum be very boring ? The Kauto example was just to illustrate my point , it could have been any horse Tom , Dick or even Harry.
  5. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Great to see Borderlescott win another listed race today at Beverley. Shame that he was balloted out of the Nunthorpe having won it twice previously , maybe something should be done to include previous winners , he may have been competitive in last weeks Nunthorpe given todays performance despite a drop in the ratings.
The Saint , not sure if you mis understood my post or just mis read the word competitive as compensation . Don't worry I'm always mis reading posts myself .
  6. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

On occassion Erhaab, I think you get quite a tough time on here.... However, that is a suggestion that should be confined to the dustbin straight away! How would you compensate the horse that missed out!? Good to see him enjoying his racing still - I agree with that!;)
I'm not suggesing compo for the connections , just a system to include certain contenders to make it a better race. As an example of what I meant , imagine next years Cheltenham Gold Cup ballotting out Kauto Star because the field is too big and Kauto has slipped in the ratings. The fans will not be happy.

  8. I was in the bookies in the afternoon , a regular roulette punter ( non horse racing fan ) screams " BOOM !!! " everyone turns round and sees he has £10 on a number which wins £360 . He collects and puts £100 on the only race horse name he recognises. BOOM ..........the horse wins the 3.55 Fontainbleu ( France I think ) at 5/1 !!!!!!! The horses name ............
    Frankle
!! Every tells him its not the real Frankel .................What does he care ..........lucky git !!

  9. Re: The Jockey Thread Richard Hughes on Califante , 4 runners , 6.35 Salisbury , 2/1 favorite Sat motionless like a statue from before 3 furlongs out to 1 out looking like the most likely winner for the majority of the race. He begins to ride out at thye furlong marker and begins to draw away however the outsider also begins his challenge and manages to win by 1/2 a length. I know it was a 4 horse race and there was no pace but for 3 furlongs he could have kicked on and possibly won by several lengths , don't you hate it when jockeys try to be clever and then balls it up. It was a listed race and probably the connections were not bothered about future handicap marks so why can't they just ride them out and guarentee the win. I did back R Hughes and was a little miffed having spent a long time watching replays and going through the form. I don't mind losing its all part of the game but it is frustrating when you know you should have collected. The point of this post is the type of ride given here rather than another Richard Hughes bashing.

  10. Re: Best flat jockey at the moment? I very much like Johnny Murtagh , but he seems to have gone through a lot of jobs in recent years Aga Khan , Oxx , Coolmore , Loder ( briefly ) , maybe he's very hard to get on with. Conversely the Aga Khan is seemingly very hard to get on with too having withdrawn his horses from the UK twice in the last 2 decades and sacking off Luca Cumani for a minor drug offence. Maybe Johnny upset the Aga Khan by secretly training Ursa Major to beat the Aga Khans odds on fav Hartani in the Gr3 Irish St Ledger trail last weekend.

  11. Re: The Jockey Thread Lee Newman has just announced his retirement again citing weight problems . He was a very good apprentice who won or nearly won the apprentice title when attached to the R Hannon yard. I wish him the best in the future. A lot of jockeys over the years have been forced to quit over weight issues , maybe it time again to rethink the minimum weight carried by horses . I know it has been raised a few times in recent years and maybe another rise is due again . It must be hard to live off a slice of unbuttered toast and a cup of black tea. Also it can't be healthy in the long term for those who are not naturally underwieght.

  12. Re: Sandrovich is back !! He switched to giving 3 free tips in his daily advert in the Racing Post instead of charging which were often biggish prices but had a rubbish stike rate. He has also stopped his adverts now and has slashed his price by 2/3s on his website. I think a lot of punters haven't forgotten his reputation. Did anybody give him a try ?

  13. Re: Best flat jockey at the moment?

You are becoming quite the comedian' date=' erhaab! Most jocks are only as good as what they are riding. Don't you think hanagan deserves some credit tho? You're forever bashing him![/quote'] Paul Hanagan is a very good and very hard working jockey , no doubt . What miffed me last year or the year before was that some were saying he's the best they've ever seen and they were proud of him as champion. I would have respected him more last year if he made the effort to attend the top meetings instead of going to ride 45 rated horses at Ripon . I am certain Ryan Moore , W Buick , L Dettori etc... wil be at Ascot on Champions day. This time last year it would have been odds on that Paul Hanagan would have chosen a lesser meeting rather than Champions day. This time round he has to go where Hamdans horses are. . Hamdans 45 rated horses either end up on a plate or at Newton Abbot so Ascot most likely.
  14. Re: Frankel Tomorrow

Keep him retired. As much as we'd all love to see him for years to come there's always the chance that he'd get injured.
You cannot speak for all of us. At the end of the day he's bred to race and to breed from . If he can't breed then why not carry on racing ? What he's acheived is for the pleasure of humans , we're the ones who are enjoying the racing , betting , spending the prizemoney . Horses don't get any sense of achievment when they win or lose. What distinguishes Frankel from a selling plater when you remove the achievements and ratings ? ...........Nothing. Obviously I don't want to see any harm to any horses but whilst they are racing they are treated very very well. Horses which are no longer able to race who have not found an alternative career / home are often sent to the glue factory or ultimately end up being eaten. Saying that Frankel will have a very good life fertile or not.
  15. Re: Best flat jockey at the moment? Multiple champion jockey Ryan Moore is the best followed very closely by William Buick who will match or even surpass him in the near furure. I'm not sure why J Doyle , J O'Brien and to a lesser extent P Hanagan are on the list , you are trying to establish who is currently the best and not who is your favorite jockeys . PS. you missed off Daryll Holland and Michael Hills.

  16. Re: The Jockey Thread It wasn't a daft point I was trying to make. I think you are over analysing everything here , its not the actual horses nor the jockeys which is my bone of contention. In amatuer races the stewards should take into account they have little or no experience of riding a real race . Its unfair to give them the same level of punishment as proper jockeys. If Laura Probert says she was exhausted then why should she not be believed ? It was her first ever ride . Don't you ever hear of jockeys at the beginning of the season they need a couple of weeks on the all weather to reach peak fitness. Not taking off the blindfold in time happens from time to time . Also this was an amateur race. Why be so harsh ? In the Gr2 Temple Stakes last year didn't the fav take off his blindfold during mid race ?

  17. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Its a Bank Holiday today and its right they put on plenty of meetings , so weekday workers and their families can enjoy the racing , but why can't those who plan the calendar put together a showcase meeting for this day for the genuine racing fans . Too many of them are held on Saturdays now , bring back the mdweek big races.

  18. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Again' date=' loads of racing tomorrow. Nearly all of it crap. I think there is just one Listed race, a 2 year old one at Ripon. Awful stuff[/quote'] The 2YO race is always held today at Redcar , but whats happened to the big handicaps on this day ? It looks like 3 Mondays worth of racing crammed into one afternoon , didn't they use to have it on C4 ?
  19. Re: The Jockey Thread

Hughes gets away with murder because he is 'Hughes' and it is somehow justified because that it is his 'style' (dropping hands and easing up when hitting the front). But if it was an apprentice that eased up close home' date=' they'd have the book thrown at them[/quote'] I agree . Below is a thread from a couple of weeks back which illustrates the point Fintron is making . Surprisingly nobody responded / cared / took interest .
  20. Re: The Jockey Thread

I've had a look at the rides you've brought up, I know you weren't bringing up them up as examples to why Richard Hughes eases off but there's some good examples to why yesterday anyhow. Firstly, Sir Lexington obviously resented the blinkers, was never travelling, actually given reminders (!) before weakening well out of contention. You'd have to be a bit mad to suggest he should have ridden out a finish on him, he wasn't enjoying it, wasn't going to win, wasn't going to finish in the places and was correctly allowed to be brought home in his own time. Poetic Lord was eased up in the last 100 yards but he'd already dropped back to 4th at this point and was going backwards. Horse was struck into and was reported as lame by the vet so it was definitely the right decision to ease off him. He might have finished a couple of lengths closer if ridden out, but you can just as easily use that in your own calculations when he next runs? Titan Triumph was never travelling and was almost certainly amiss. The thing is, the difference between a 20 length beating and a 60 length one is pretty non-existent. Unless there's some mitigating excuse to why they were beaten so far (hampered etc..) then they're effectively the same. Your insistence that every horse be ridden out to the finish is bordering on animal cruelty. Or was this another 'rhetorical' question ?
How can it be obvious he resented blinkers , thats just simply opionion , horses can't communicate with humans. How does riding out a finish in a flat race equate to animal cruelty ? Compare that to riding out a 4 mile chase under extreme conditions . The whip rules are stricter today than any other time in the past. I've seen the majority of Richard Hughes rides in the UK over flat and jumps over the last 20 years and that is the conclusion I've come to , how many have you seen ? I'm not attacking him personally just using him as an example of somebody who doen't give every ride 100%
  21. Re: The Jockey Thread Of Richard Hughes 5 rides yesterday , 1 winner , a 3rd and the other 3 last one being a 9/4 fav . One was 53l last and the other 68l last . I'm not picking out these rides to be scrutenised just generalising my point , could these rides not have finished much closer to the winner ? Do we literally translate the 68l beating ? Would it be another 68l beating should they all race again under the same conditions ? I'm sure under different jockeys the winning distance would be much different , which is why I'd like to see all jockeys ride out for best possible finishing always. Take multiple champion jockey AP McCoy for example , he always makes an effort , so win or lose I never have a complaint about his rides.
