  1. Re: Free Bets Question I don't keep records of bets...........:unsure I only have the one account so i can check bets on there but don't think I can tell if they've drifted or not I know from memory that is has happened..........that they've drifted from the early price that i took and still won. But I'm sure that it's much more common that they shorten. Of course i only tend to remember the winners.........maybe loads of them drift and get beat and you don't remember those ones !.........

  2. Re: BBOTD - Tuesday Ling 5.00 - Ptolomeos - ew at 28/1 BOG with stan james Won a similar looking race to this at Yarmouth 2 runs ago which gives him some recent winning form unlike most of these. Won by 4 lengths that day To date he's shown his best form at around 10 furlongs and on soft ground As long as he handles this surface he should get 12 furlongs ok, he's bred like the average Grand National winner........... Ran at Wolves last time and disappointed but the rider dropped his reins Lot's of todays runners look like dubious stayers so hopefully he;ll be staying on at the finish when most of them are giving up.

  3. Re: Free Bets Question

You have made the mistake of wasting your free bet on a winner. If you put your free bet on a loser that you would have backed anyway it saves you money, but you are no better off winning with a free bet than with an ordinary bet because they don't include the free stake in your return, and in a case like this, where you don't get such good odds as you normally would, the "free bet" actually costs you money. So remember: always use your free bets for losers.
hahaha, nice one............:lol:lol a glass half empty kind of guy............:tongue2 Must admit that my first winner on a free bet i did expect to get the stake as well..............:loon And also i now realise that i got a free bet when i opened my account earlier this year but I didn't know how to use it and i lost it under the 'use it or lose it' rule............:loon
  4. Re: Free Bets Question Yes, Fin.........it is a good offer But it's pretty rare for one to go off at bigger odds than the early price I take and then win..........it's a blue moon occurance ! I expect it's the same for everyone else 99 times out of a 100 the SP is shorter than the early price so BOG doesn't come into it. And i expect the bookies just factor it into their books and prices. Having said that when the odd one does drift in price and win you do feel like you've got a real bonus ............:ok

  5. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Monday 3.40 Ponty - Russian Spirit - lay Fave for the sprint handicap In good nick so can't oppose him on form Not sure this stiff track will suit him. His best runs in handicaps have come at york, which is a speed track at 5 furlongs. Has had 2 runs on what I think of as stiff tracks and in both cases he weakened in the finish. He's also weakened in the finish when running at 6 furlongs on flat tracks in handicaps. Just think he's best on a sharp or flat track.

  6. Re: Free Bets Question Thanks BH I guessed that was probably the case, but thought I'd check if anyone knew for sure. I had looked at the terms and conditions on the website but it wasn't clear to me As you say..........it is a freebie, I guess we shouldn't expect cream on it as well !

  7. I've recently had some Free Bets courtesy of PL.........:) I backed one today at 5/1 with Stan James - it drifted to 6/1 and won I got paid at 5/1, didn't get the BOG. Does anyone know if this is just standard practise that you don't get BOG with Free Bets ? Or should I be e-mailing them to complain ? I'm not a natural complainer..........and certainly don't want to complain unless i'm in the right...........:lol

  8. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Sunday Bath 3.15 - Al Shababiya - lay Lightly raced type who is fave for the extended 2 mile handicap Not sure he's really going to get the trip. he's won up to 12 furlong, but that was at an easy track Ran OK last time over two miles at Wolves but was hanging towards the finish, which suggests that he was at the end of his stamina tether This is a stiffer track and an extra furlong

  9. Re: BBOTD 17th October Bath 3.15 - Sula two - win at 11/2 BOG with Wm Hill Drops in class from a class 4 handicap at newbury to a class 5 here. That last run was his first attempt at 2 miles and he ran well to finish 2nd. I like that he was hampered near the finish, but didn't use that as an excuse to give, he was pulled out and ran on again, showing that he's got some battle in him The other market leaders are coming up in class He's also the only one in the field with a course win to his name over 3 furlongs shorter. Two miles here is quite a stiff test for a 3YO so it's handy to know that he can handle the long uphill finish

  10. Re: Flat Racing ~Sat 16th Oct I dozed off in my armchair and missed the Dewhurst.........:eek Saw a reply tho'...........pretty impressive, Frankel now odds on the guineas ! I don't know.........with St Nicholas Abbey fresh in the mind, it's difficult to get excited about super two year olds I wouldn't take evens about it running in the Guineas, never mind winning it............ Anyone been tempted to pile on ?

  11. Re: Apprentice/Conditional jockeys - something to bear in mind!

That's part of what I love about the sport. You can pick up something new every day!
I know this is veering off into a different topic.........but i find these days that I'm trying to unlearn things.......or at least ration the different number things i look at There's such a bombardment of information available.........and what more, available to everyone, that I'm trying to find just one or two things that i don't think other people are looking at. It's a bit late now, gotta be up early for work tomorrow, but I might expand on this later !
  12. Re: So what do you guys think about Cheltenham? I was watching on RUK today and they had no pictures for the first couple of races ! They covered them from a fixed camera on the weighing room balcony........the horses disappeared for 3 or 4 furlongs at a time. There was also no racecourse commentary........Stuart machin did a manful job from the studio booth trying to commentate on races where he couldn't see the horses As usual Lydia took it all in her stride........what a gal !..........:tongue2

  13. Re: Why do British horses so rarely succeed in the most prestigious racing event? I wonder if, over time, we might see a gradual change in priorities for British/irish trainers. With so many of the world's big races in Dubai, Hong Kong, Sha Tin, Japan now taking place in our winter some trainers might start gearing their horses for winter campaigns. Maybe do the early season - Gns, Derby, Royal ascot, then take a four month break, have a prep, go to the Breeders Cup then round the world. If you look at a horse like Cumani's Presvis you can see what could be the future - in 2009 he took the whole of the European summer off, made his seasonal debut in November on the all weather at Lingfield, then went off on a world campaign I suppose this is more likely with older horses - I think the stud value probably dictates that the best 3YO will follow the traditional path.

  14. Re: The Form Book From memory I didn't use them in either of those ways........I think i looked up the big meetings and read the race results just as a refresher of the past season. I certainly didn't look up every horse running in 'todays' race that i was studying...........it would have taken too long to go through their past races in the form book and anyway you've got the form in front of you for the horses running 'today', including this seasons form I've never done 'horses to follow' on the basis that they might never run again and I've wasted my time.

  15. Re: LOTD - 14th of October

Kemp 7.50 Blue Tigers eye - lay
Going to against the Godolphin hotpot and fave for the nursery He looked impressive winning his maiden at Ling last time, but he had the run of the race with an uncontested lead. he slowed down in front and won a sprint for the line quite easily Didn't record anything better than a class 6 speed fig Several front runners in the field tonight and I don't think he'll have it his own way up front. He's probably poor value anyway as a godolphin maiden winner in a nursery. I reckon they sometimes get over-handicapped because of who the owners are !
  16. Re: Best bet of the day 14th Oct Kemp 7.50 - Sagramore - win at 4/1 BOG with Laddies Going to take on the Godolphin hotpot with this one He looked impressive winning a CD maiden last time and clocking a good speed fig. First run in a nursery and looks a progressive type Lots of front runners in the race tonight which could set it up for him

  17. Re: The Form Book In the olden days i used to buy annual formbooks with the previous season's full results But frankly, I never really used them...........after a few weeks of the new season I was only interested in what the horses had done this year, not last ! And they were 'clunky' to use being in race order. To follow one horse through that past season, you'd have to look at numerous races. (and the print size was too small to read without a magnifying glass, but that just might be me getting old !) Nowadays with all the form accessible on the Post site organised by horse rather than by race, I fail to see the point of buying last season's formbook unless you want to keep them as a collection to dip into in the years ahead as a reminder of past glories.
