  1. Re: Change to BOG terms at Stan James I notice that no one else has said that they've received an e-mail........ Is it just me...........:sad There could be a plus side to this..........maybe Stan James will have to offer bigger odds in their early prices. If you look on Oddschecker the biggest prices early in the day are usually the NON-BOG firms. I guess they have to add an extra point to tempt people to give up the BOG option.

  2. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Friday Newm 5.20 - Hawridge Star - place lay Currently vying for favouritism in the stayers handicap This horse gets the trip and goes best with cut in the ground so conditions look OK But he's been very lightly raced in the last few years, just 6 runs since January 2007, and he seems to run best now when coming off a decent break. Doesn't appear that he can take much racing and this is his 3rd run in 6 weeks. On his return he finished a short head 2nd with the Post noting that he would have won in one more stride. Then gave in tamely at Salisbury next time out I'm banking on him being a 'best fresh' horse

  3. Re: Best bet of the day 29th Oct Newm 5.20 - Rock Soleil - win at 8/1 BOG with Ladbrokes I think it's fairly easy to pick holes in the front runners in the market in this race and Rock Soleil looks a solid option to run his race Came back from nearly 2 years off in August and got beat 90 lengths and 130 lengths in his first two runs back Seems to be getting back into racing rhythm now tho' and has been beaten under 2 lengths in his last 2 runs. Those represent his best 2 runs in handicaps since he came over from France Goes on the ground, gets the trip and is a fairly fresh horse

  4. Just got an e-mail from Stan James informing me that as from 1st November the BOG concession will only apply to bets placed within 10 minutes of race time. In other words, if you place your bet an hour before the race, you don't get BOG. Don't know about other bookies as i only have the one account. Not very good news is it............:@

  5. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Thursday Wolv 6.50 - proud times - place lay currently 2nd fave in a five runner handicap This is 13.9 furlongs and the horse has won here and at southwell over 12 furlongs. Those were very slow run races and I'm not sure he'll get this extended trip unless they crawl along, so I'm hoping something will set a decent clip, maybe mark johnston's horse He's 9lbs above his last winning mark and has finished unplaced in his two outings off this mark I have a feeling that Brouhaha could come good and pat eddery's horse looks sure to place, so I'll place lay him.

  6. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Wednesday Kemp 9.10 - Know No Fear = place lay Fave for the mile handicap Despite the fact that he won over a mile at Southwell on monday I think he's better over shorter That was a very slow race at Southwell which perhaps helped him to get the trip - I think they usually go a bit faster on this surface at Kemp He's got the penalty tonight which makes life tougher He doesn't look like a horse who'll put a sequence together I can see why he's fave - won lto, stable in form, Fallon taking the ride, but I'll take him on

  7. Well I've never seen anything like that ! In the last at Haydock today.......a novice hurdle Drill Sargeant set off in front and was about 12 lengths clear after a mile or so........then he just stopped !. The whole field caught him and went past then he started running again from 4 or 5 lengths behind the field, got back up and won. Blimey.......bet a few fingers got burnt laying him in running........:loon

  8. Paul Roy You probably read the story.........the head of the BHA, one of who's investment companies recently bought 5 million shares in Betfair when it was floated. (They'd applied for 40 million shares but the offer was over-subscribed and they only got 5 million) Even without knowing all the details it seems an open and shut case of a conflict of interest. The man in charge of an organisation trying to get the best deal possible out of the betting industry is a large shareholder in a constituent part of that industry. He says that he can put one hat on when he's at the BHA and another hat when he's at his investment company.........that doesn't really wash, does it ? It's the perception of a conflict of interest that just as important. Let's just say, for example, that Betfair get what appears to be a good deal from the BHA (and whatever the deal is, some people will think just that) then people will insinuate that they got a good deal because the boss of the BHA is a shareholder in betfair - it undermines his authority in dealing with the betting industry What do you think ?..........stay or go ?

  9. Re: LOTD - Tuesday Grrrrrrr...........that's probably me out of contention for the month.......:@ Damn thing faded then ran on again to snatch 3rd.......:@ I wouldn't mind so much but it had drifted so much in the betting since I posted that i wouldn't have even picked it if I'd known the SP.........:wall

  10. Re: LOTD - Tuesday Well done Aidy - it's getting to that time of the month where it's 'he who dares wins !'............:tongue2 And BH - short price place lay...........:ok I toyed with laying the 5/1 on shot at yarmouth to try and win the comp in one fell swoop, but fortunately I bottled it..........it won ! :tongue2

  11. Re: LOTD - Tuesday Yarm 3.30 - Bouncy Bouncy - place lay Currently fave for the 5F handicap Position as favourite appears to be based on the fact that it's lightly raced and 'unexposed' in a field full of known quantities As a side note...........they always put 'unexposed' as though it invariably means 'unexposed as being good'. It might be that a horse is unexposed to be rubbish !..........and when it's run a few more times we'll know it's useless ! Anyway........this horse hasn't run often, but it's two worst runs were on this track and also were it's only 2 runs with 'soft' in the going description. So there's every chance it won't handle heavy ground. Also drawn 11 of 11 which appears to be a disadvantage on soft ground here.

  12. Re: LOTD Monday 2.20 Southwell - Suddenly Susan - lay Maiden race over 8 furlongs on the fibresand Suddenly Susan probably has the best maiden race form coming in to this, but I'm not sure she's going to get the trip on this surface. She rab 2nd at brighton over 8F but that's quite an easy track and she appeared to fade over 7F at kemp, in what was admittedly a much better looking race than today. I'll take a chance on her not staying ps..........we have 2 threads on the go !

  13. Re: BBOTD - Monday/25/ October Kemp 2.10 - Josrs Magic - win at 13/2 BOG with Bet365 Been in good nick here at kempton lately and reverts back to 10F today which appears to be his best trip. he definitely likes the all weather as he's one of the few (I reckon !) who's won at all 4 UK all weather tracks. I suppose the slight worry is knowing when the handicapper catches up with him - he's up 5lb since his last win and up into class 4 for the first time in 4 years, which is a worry obviously. Has been churning out good speed figs lately - I've got his last 2 ratings as both better than the best of any other horse in the race Trainer in form - 100% on the Post RTF figures.

  14. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Sunday Think I'll have a day off today with there being no flat racing...... Couple of good matches on telly !............ ps.......BH, I'm sure you noticed but I had a 'small' win last night after the tables went up. Damn thing drifted like a barge after i posted and I'd bottled out of place laying it.............:wall

  15. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Saturday Kemp 8.15 - Global Village - lay Hot fave for the 7F handicap Is 3-3 over this CD and has won his last 5 handicaps on the all weather. Comes here off a six month break and may need the run, but I wouldn't lay him on that basis. Steps up in grade tonight to class 4 for the first time and up 5 lbs in the weights Looking at his last 3 wins they've all been poor races in class 5 against out of form rivals. His speed figs are poor and I think he's had a very easy time and been lucky to find bad races. Now 21 lbs higher than when his winning run on the AW began and meets solid Kempton class 4 handicappers tonight, I think he's up against it.

  16. Re: Best bet of the day 23rd Oct Newb 2.40 - Poet - win at 13/2 BOG with Bet365 Has won at this group 3 level before and is the top trated horse in the field on OR He loves soft ground and might improve for the step up in trip. He runs like a stayer - he's a galloper rather than a crawl along and sprint type. He'd be suited by a decent pace and will probably make it himself if nothing else does Has to carry a penalty under race conditions, but he's a big horse who should have no problem carrying weight

  17. Re: More than one horse backed in a race? I agree that it's a good idea in theory, after all the idea is to make a profit But I've never actually done it.............:lol When it comes to shelling out cash I don't like the idea of wasting stakes. If i really can't decide between 2 or 3 horses in a race i either leave it alone or back the one at the biggest price. I'd hate the idea of backing 2 or 3 in a race then something else comes along and wins.............

  18. Re: BBOTD - Friday Diamond Daisy - 7.45 Wolv - EW at 28/1 BOG with stan james This is a class 6 and the horse comes here 6lbs below it's last winning mark. Has had a tough time recently running in class 4 handicaps, but has had a 3 month break, been dropped 7lbs from it's last run, down 2 grades and the stable is in decent nick. Ran poorly last time it came back from a break but that was in a class 3 handicap The time before it returned from a few months off it finished a half length 2nd, so it can go well fresh

  19. Re: Lay of the Day - Friday 22nd October 8.45 Wolves - Libre - place lay Currently joint 2nd fave for the handicap He's a CD winner but hasn't won for 2 years. He's often there or thereabouts in these class 6 handicaps, like last time he finished 2nd at yarmouth Now 10 years old and appears to be in decline. Last time he had a spell on the AW he ran a few times here at Wolves but mainly in class 7 races and didn't make much impression Likes to be held up and with a low draw tonight could find himself boxed in and without the pace to get out

  20. Re: Flat Racing; Fri 22nd October Every few months I change the 'angle' that I concentrate on for a change of scenery..........at the moment I'm paying particular attention to 'class droppers' and this one has caught my eye at Wolves........ Diamond Daisy in the 7.45 This is a class 6 and the horse comes here 6lbs below it's last winning mark. Has had a tough time recently running in class 4 handicaps, but has had a 3 month break, been dropped 7lbs from it's last run, down 2 grades and the stable is in decent nick. Ran poorly last time it came back from a break but that was in a class 3 handicap The time before it returned from a few months off it finished a half length 2nd, so it can go well fresh Currently 25/1

  21. Re: LOTD Thursday Kemp 9.10 - Slugger O'Toole - lay curently fave for the 7F handicap been in decline for a while now and hasn't won for 2 years But put up a god run over this CD last time out and has been dropped another 3 lbs However that was a bunch finish and 3 of the horses who oppsed him then run again tonight Slugger was slowly away that day from a low draw and held up, making his challenge late around the outside Has a high draw tonight and could find it tricky if he's slowly away again and could well get trapped on the inside.

  22. Re: BBOTD Thursday 7.40 kemp - Encircled - ew at 33/1 BOG with Stan james Had some good form at the track last year and earlier this yar, twicw finishing a hd second in class 4 handicaps. Has had a summer break and been well beaten in two comeback runs, but improved from the first to the second and steps back up in trip tonight I think there'a a lot of non stayers in the field and this one gets the trip Hoping that 2 runs have put him spot on to mount a challenge tonight !
