  1. Re: Flat Racing: 1st Jan 2011 Sou 1.25 - Dart - win at 5/2 BOG with Wm Hill Only 5 runners turn up for the stayers handicap Dart has a lot going for him - he won this race last year, he's the only CD winner in the field, he's won in small fields, he's won here when the track has been riding 'slow', he's got the best speed figs and he's in good nick with some decent efforts at Wolves lately I think there are stamina doubts over all the other 4 runners and Dart can just outstay them in the finish

  2. Re: BBOTD: 1st Jan 2011 Here we go again !............good luck everybody.........:ok I'm sticking with Southwell even tho' I've had only 1 winner there in about a month..............:eek Sou 1.25 - Dart - win at 5/2 BOG with Wm Hill Only 5 runners turn up for the stayers handicap Dart has a lot going for him - he won this race last year, he's the only CD winner in the field, he's won in small fields, he's won here when the track has been riding 'slow', he's got the best speed figs and he's in good nick with some decent efforts at Wolves lately I think there are stamina doubts over all the other 4 runners and Dart can just outstay them in the finish

  3. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Tables ~ December Well done kroni !...........:clap I'm well pleased to win the overall title, but must say a big 'hard luck' to Andy...........you had me worried right up to the end !........:D terrific stuff from wizzkid........finishing in profit after selecting every single day of the year...........he's had more chicken dinners than Brer Fox........:lol And of course a big 'Thank You' to BH for all the work he puts in.........:ok

  4. Re: Lay Of The Day Tables ~ December Well done Aidy !.........:clap I've enjoyed the comp over the year, it's made me look at things a bit differently and has helped in my backing.........well, I think it has ! Cheers BH for running the comp all year even tho' it was obvious it hadn't really 'taken off'...........a year is a fair crack of the whip. :ok

  5. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Dec 31st 2.30 Ling - Dancing Welcome - win lay One of the usual suspects of the AW scene, he wins in his turn Having gone up a couple of pounds for finishing 2nd last time in a slow run race, he's now on a career high mark and 7 lbs above his highest winning mark He's pretty exposed now after 40-odd runs so i think he'll struggle to improve enough to win off this mark and will probably need a couple of months of running every week to get back down to a winning OR again

  6. Re: BBOTD 31/12/10 - Last of 2010! Ling 2.30 - Mr Skipiton - win at 5/1 BOG with Bet365 Awful card to end the AW year on ! The 2.30 is a typical AW low grade sprint handicap. A couple of the horses are in decent nick, the selection and Chjimes, both of which won over CD last time out I'm going with Mr Skipiton because he posted the higher speed figure Chjimes' race (beat Dancing Welcome, re-opposes today) was very slowly run and that form might be unreliable Mr Skipiton won narrowly but looked comfortable and might have a bit more to come.

  7. Re: Flat Racing : December 31st Yeah.........poor card today, but I'll have a stab at the handicaps Current odds quoted 1.30 Caprio - win at 6/1 If this was a few points bigger it could be a good EW - is in good nick, CD winner. Seems to win only in claiming company but often runs well in handicaps. This doesn't too hot so he's got a chance. Pretty consistant type. 2.00 - Dualagi - win at 13/2 Romped home over CD last time with a change of tactics appearing to bring an improved performance. Used to be held up but they blasted away and made all. Maybe they've found the key to him and front running could see him improve from his lowly handicap mark 2.30 Mr Skipiton - win at 5/1 Typical low grade AW sprint handicap with 3 last time out winners and a clutch of CD specialists I like the last time out win of this one over the Chjimes/Dancing Welcome race because he produced a better speed fig I'll go with the figs in the absence of anything solid to seperate out the first few in the market - any of them could win, it's a 'who's turn is it today' kind of race. 3.00 You'relikemefrank - win at 5/2 This one has been backed into favouritism this morning, it was about 3rd favourite last night which I thought was a surprise. Missed the price now of course ! CD winner, has some good speed figs, unsuited slow track at Wolves last time and can resume winning ways back here at Ling 3.30 - Avonvalley - ew at 14/1 This is one of those horses that I've got my eye on as a big priced winner waiting to happen. Has some decent form and some good speed figs. problem is that the trainer appears never to win races, so it's a bit risky until the yard shows some form. The horse has won 4 and placed 6 times from 22 runs, so he's not useless.

  8. Re: How's 2010 been for you? A lot of posters are mentionning 'discipline' as being a problem or something they wish to improve in 2011. I think I've unwittingly stumbled upon a partial solution for this......:D I'm not really a whizz on the computer and tend to shy away from anything complicated..........so when i opened an online account earlier this year I couldn't be bothered figuring out how to do multiple bets So i've stuck to singles all year.........and made a handsome profit. In my previous incarnation as a betting shop punter i was very much a yankee man........and generally made a loss. Can this just be coincidence ?.........or is part of 'discipline' cutting out those bookie friendly yankees and lucky 15s ? That's difficult because we all know that multiples are the bookies friend but we all think that we are the one that will hit the jackpot. I've settled for steady accumalation.............:D

  9. Re: LOTD 30TH December Shame.........the comp seems to be fizzling out with a whimper...... Ah well........I've still got one more winner to get for my 200 up for the year, so I'm going for another outsider today.......:unsure Kemp 6.40 - Diriculous - win lay Hasn't won for 2 years and has only raced once in the last year Obviously he has talent as he's won several races and is now well handicapped if only he could return to something like his previous form He's a CD winner But such long absences are a worry and this looks a hot little sprint to be trying to make a comeback in

  10. Re: Flat Racing - 30th December Kemp 6.40 - Quasi congaree - win at 11/1 with Stan James Has the plum draw here and there doesn't look to be a lot of pace on with several hold up horses at the head of the market and most of them drawn wide, Has a big weight pull with Anne of Kiev for a narrow 2nd at lingfield recently and 'Anne' hasn't performed great on her runs here at kempton At the last few meetings here it's paid to be prominent coming into the straight - I can see the 3 lowest drawn horses, quasi, vhujon and perfect act being in the front rank and sprinting out the finish with the hold up horses not getting to them. Quasi Congaree doesn't win very often and not sure he's the bravest - he might need evrything to fall right for him, which is why he's decent odds. Fingers crossed tonight is the night ! 7.10 - Hazzard County - win at around 11/1 Another 'character' here who needs everything to fall right - he's got a good CD record and was badly hampered last time. Has been running pretty consistantly the last 3 or 4 runs which isn't always the case with him On his day he can certainly win a race like this and has been posting up good speed figs in defeat since his last win here In taking fairly big odds you have to accept that he often finds trouble in running and they say that you don't get rich backing 'unlucky' horses A bit like my previous selection, he'll pop up and win every now and then at decent odds and disappoint inbetween - you've got to hope that things will fall right for him tonight !

  12. Re: Flat Racing - 30th December Kempton looks like the main event today, I'll have a look at that later. Here's a few for lingfield........current prices quoted 12.35 - Negotiation - win at 6/4 Drops in class and presumably will attempt to make the running and win from the front. Should have a good chance as current fave Edgeworth looks a bit of a puller and might be better in a big field. 1.35 - Lokis Revenge - win at 9/4 Won a decent looking class 3 nursery at kempton last time. 2nd that day was Forty proof and he should beat him again. The two recent maiden winners are a bit of an unknown quatity but Steps had a few runs and looked better back at 5 furlongs. Pippa's Gift beat a non stayer in her maiden win which might have flattererd her. 2.45 - Pegasus Again - ew at 12/1 Won this race last year, has a good record over this CD, has won after a break before. Comes here after about 4 months off the track. Trainer hasn't had many runners lately. From what I see his only runner in December won off a ten month break so he can get them ready at home.

  13. Re: John Ryan Wow.........another impressive win ! Since I won on it 3 runs ago I've assumed each subsequent time that it's run might come to an end, but it keeps on pulling out more ! Fantastic training performance..............:ok Even Frank couldn't stop it...............:loon

  14. Re: Lay of the Day - Wed 29th Dec 3.40 Wolv - Layline - win lay regular runner in these better class aw handicaps but hasn't managed to win one despite a few places. Looks a typical type who was assessed too high on a maiden win and runs consistantly enough for the handicapper to be slow in dropping his mark Better over shorter trips and drawn in stall 1 - could get trapped on the inside.

  15. Re: Best bet of the day~29th Dec Kemp 4.50 - High spice - win at 7/1 BOG with VC Lots of front runners in this sprint handicap could well set it up for a hold up horse. Two that stand out are High Spice and Vhujon. High spice beat Vhujon into 2nd when she won here a couple of runs ago and today could see a repeat result. Vhujon is consistant but doesn't win often. High Spice is lighly raced, a CD winner, was probably unsuited to Wolves last time on a slow track and can resume winning win now back here.

  16. Re: Flat Racing : 29th December Kempton quick picks......... 4.20 Lady prodee - ew at 8/1 Has the plum draw here and might be worth another chance after failing to get an extra furlong here last time. Might be needing a gap on the inside so could be hairy ! Good 3 lb claimer takes the ride and drops back to class 5 from class 3 last time. 4.50 High spice - win at 6/1 Lots of front runners in this sprint handicap could well set it up for a hold up horse. 7.20 Bariola - ew at 16/1 Despite being a 6 year old has only run 5 times and obviously doesn't take much racing. Today might be the day to catch him coming off a 10 month break. His last win came off an 11 month break and he appears to go best fresh. Won at Ling over this trip so acts on the poly. Trainer brought one back last week to win here after nearly 2 years off the track so he can get them ready after long absences.

  17. Re: Flat Racing : 29th December For a change today I've decide not to spend hours and hours studying one or two races but to have a quick glimpse at all of them and see what catches my eye ! Wolves quick picks.........current available odds quoted 1.25 - Jigajig EW at around 12/1 CD winner coming here after a break of a couple of months. Ryan yard in decent form and has a nice draw. Usually front runs and i think racing prominently could help on the slower surface today. Dropped a couple of pounds and now back on it's last winning mark 2.00 - Amica - win at 1/2 Odds on shot in a poor race. Has group race form in South Africa. Most of G kellaways SA imports seem to come on for a run when making their UK debuts, but this one looks so far ahead of the opposition that he should win even if not fully wound up 2.35 - Lovers causeway - win at 5/2 Had a nice win on him last time when he made all. I wrote then that he never wins when he tries to make all and hoped he would be held up ! The race didn't pan out as i expected but he still won. Think he will make all today and looks to be a typical Johnston stayer 3.10 Mighty Clarets - ew at around 10/1 Another one i picked out last time when he won and I'll stick with him. CD winner, three year old from the Fahey yard. Won with todays 7lb claimer on a 'slow' surface like today. I like him as a bit of a battler - it was head bob job last time and he battled all the way to the line. Up 5lbs for a neck win which makes it tougher but has only had 13 career runs and could well be improving Wolv 3.40 - Fastnet storm - ew at 8/1 Just a bit intrigued by trainer Tate having 2 front runners in this field - Suits Me is a classy type but tends to run his races in conditions events and struggles off his high mark in handicaps. Wonder if they're going to use him as a hare for Fastnet Storm ? CD winner, won a similar race to today last time. I realise i might be relying on 'Frank' to mess up the ride on Final Drive !..........:rollin Wolv 4.10 - Alternative choice - win at 3/1 Won his last 3 races, 2 of them over this CD. Won last time after a four month break and might come on again for the run to stay ahead of the handicapper. Although coming up to 5 years old, he's lightly raced and appears to have just got the hang of things in the last 6 months after being well beaten in his first two years on the track. Starting his run from a very low mark, looks a typical 'sequence' horse

  18. Re: How's 2010 been for you? Nice posts lads...........good luck to you all in 2011 It's been an excellent year for me in my first full year of betting after an absence of over a decade Small stakes stuff but made a nice profit But.........and there's a big BUT ! Over the last couple of months I've not been enjoying it as much, it's become a bit of a daily chore, it's become work ! I'm spending so much time on the racing every day that i feel like my flair has been driven out of me by the need to study and study and study some more. And paradoxicaly the more i study the less confident i become about picking winners, especially big priced EW shots. I think i really need to spend less time on the racing and go with my 'feel' or instinct rather than trying to learn everything there is to know about every horse in a race. I deperately need a break.............:unsure Think I'll take a much more relaxed attitude in 2011 and scale down my daily participation - well at least until I can say I'm enjoying it again. It is a hobby after all.............

  19. Re: LOTD - Tues 28th Dec Very disappointed with my selection today - I was really sure he couldn't win !..........:@ Think I might call it a day with trying to win this month now and try and get 200 winners up with a couple of outsiders ! Knowing my recent luck they'll scoot in as well..........:unsure

  20. Re: LOTD - Tues 28th Dec Ling 1.40 - Edinburgh Knight - win lay 2nd fave for the sprint handicap Lightly raced type who appears to have improved now sprinting Although he's been running well he's never managed to win one, both his career wins came over 7 Furlongs He's been close, but no cigar I think maybe he just lacks a tad of finishing speed and in decent sprints like today will find one or two outkicking him in the finish

  21. Re: BBOTD 28th December 1.40 Ling - Sutton Veny - ew at 11/1 with Stan James Very competitive sprint handicap Sutton veny looks pretty big odds considering her recent form with a couple of the market leaders in Piscean and Edinburgh Knight. There's not much between them judging be recent runs It might appear that Sutton veny is better at kempton where nearly all her wins have come, but that might be misleading as she runs there a lot and has only run here once. Piscean - maybe better at 5F ? Edinburgh - maybe better at 7F ? Secret Asset looks good but is up 8 lbs for a win in what appears to be a lesser race last time. Silaah could run well - has been called a few names after appearing to bottle it at Southwell a couple of times but I think maybe this track will suit better. I think maybe he just runs out out of stamina at Southwell in the last few yards I guess it's a typical decent AW sprint handicap where any of five or six could win I reckon Sutton Veny is in that group and at the odds looks a decent EW bet.
