  1. To be honest I don't think it's a value that is capable of having a numerical rating put on it

These days with all weather gallops and more advanced training facilities most trainers can get a horse fit and ready to run at home

The 'variability' is much more between individual horses than days since last run

Some horses will need two or three runs to peak, others will peak first time after a break then go backwards until they have another break

I guess you could have a rating based on something like 5 points for having run within 2 weeks, 4 points for have run within 2-4 weeks and so on down to 0 points for not having run for several months, But that wouldn't take into account the variation from horse to horse

I think this is a variable where you just have to look at each horse and decide where they are in their run cycle and look at the pattern of previous runs

You could also look at trainers …….. check out their recent winners and see if they have winners that have come back from breaks or whether their winners are with horses who have had a recent run

  2. 3.15 Handicap Chase (Listed)

16/16 – Had run within the last 3 months
14/16 – Had won over at least 2m3f (chase) before
    14/16 – Aged 7 or older
12/16 – Had won 2 or more chases before
    11/16 – Carried 10-13 or less
    10/16 – Finished 1st or 2nd last time out

Short list of 3 - More Buck's, Too Many Diamonds, Brian Boranha

Looking to dump one and I've gone for Too Many Diamonds who hasn't won above Class 4. Leaves me with -

    More Buck's 10/1

    Brian Boranha 16/1

  3. Generally if a horse is 'travelling well' it'll be going the same speed as the horses around it but the other jockeys will be pushing and shoving and using the stick whereas 'your' jockey will be sat still and not asking the horse for any extra effort

In other words it'll appear to be keeping up with the others but using much less effort ………. the assumption being that when the jockey does ask it to quicken up it'll have lots left in the tank whereas the other horses around it are already at full stretch
