kevshat
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) And one more. 3pts K.Shepherd to beat S.Maish 11/10 Skybet Kirk Shepherd hasn't played bad darts this week at all and he's in a good position to qualify for the last 16. To do that he has to beat Steve Maish. Maish himself has played well this week but his two wins have come primarily off the back of some high checkouts and with the best will in the world that's going to end at some point. Shepherd's nothing special but he can take his chances when they come along and his run in the world championships 2 years ago shows he can hold his nerve under pressure. There won't be too many chances for him to make a few quid like he's got here for a while so I'll take the Kent youngster to see off the "Magic Man" and take his place in the last 16. CzechPunter
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Decided to stay away from the matches today, doing some live betting on bwin though, picked up 2.10 on Van der Voort when he was 3-0 up against Taylor, one leg later and it was 1.20 :lol Hope the rest of the evening goes the same way :hope
PerryPFC
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) I'm keeping quiet... previous posts have all gone pete tong! (Bad form to mention it after the event but I had O'shea to beat Lloyd 5-2 and 107.5+ Checkout) I only mention because I've gone the other way in the Shepherd / Maish match :eek just in case anyone fancied it, I have got something right today!! PerryPFC
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) He has a steadier throw to hold up to the pressure against Shepherd (1 win on telly in 2 years) to get through to last 16. CzechPunter
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Well too bad, I had something on Barneveld :sad anyway, good day for me nevertheless. Hankey vs Whitlock tomorrow, that should be interesting. Lots of interesting matches, to be fair. And lots of interesting picks. What to choose though :loon? Trying last pick of today - Dobromyslova +3,5 against Webster
PerryPFC
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Osbourne 5-1 Woods - 7/2 StanJames Osbourne 5-2 Woods - 10/3 Stanjames Woods is still rubbish, Osbourne is still good. Woods is playing for nothing but pride, and with hair like that, pride doesn't mean too much to him! Osbourne will be looking to carry some confidence into last 16. kevshat
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Guys, can we stick to the forum rules and not after time and give some reasoning to picks. 1 line of reasoning is fine but "I'm taking x to beat y" isn't enough. There has to be a reason why you are backing something so share it with us. As for the aftertiming, I'm sure it isn't done to wind people up but it does exactly that to some people so if we can stick to posting BEFORE the event that would be good :ok. I'll be glad when these round robin matches are out of the way. Too many nerves about. That can make for good drama but give me 180's galore and ton plus averages any day of the week. That'll come on Thursday onwards. Already a couple of cracking matches set up for Thursday and Taylor vs Osborne could be about to be confirmed :dude. Thursday could well look like: Taylor vs Osbourne, King vs Barney, O'Shea vs Webster and Painter vs Shepherd. That'll do me :tongue2. stereoman
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Aye, it's been absolutely frustrating. :\ I wasn't around yesterday but would have liked to have known what odds van der Voort was to beat Taylor and 5-1 at that! :eek Tonight's matches and odds from Ladbrokes (matches start at 6pm): Terry Jenkins 8/15 vs. 11/8 Adrian Lewis Gary Anderson 4/11 vs. 2/1 Co Stompe Robert Thornton 2/9 vs. 3/1 Gary Mawson Wayne Mardle 6/5 vs. 8/13 Scott Waites James Wade 4/11 vs. 2/1 Andy Hamilton Ted Hankey 5/4 vs. 4/7 Simon Whitlock Steve Beaton 4/7 vs. 5/4 Kevin McDine Darin Young 6/5 vs. 8/13 Denis Ovens Hmmm. Knowing who throws first helps. The McDine vs. Stompe match ended up with Kevin winning but only just because he was able to hold his throw. I feel Anderson vs. Stompe could be like that. First thoughts: Jenkins, Waites, Whitlock and Ovens all to win.
RussP
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) 'The Bull' Terry Jenkins is a short price but, in fairness, I think he'll win easily against Lewis, who has looked disinterested and doesn't look at ease with himself. Jenkins really is a consistent sort and will want to top the group. Lewis, meanwhile, is out so won't want to be up on the stage. Short price but think this should get us off to a good start. The Hammer looks big at 2's to take out James Wade. Missed doubles against Thornton in his first game but reeled off 5 legs in a row to beat Mawson 5-2 in his last game. That keeps alive his hopes of reaching the last 16. Wade meanwhile was at his brilliant best to defeat Thornton but this looks more of a shootout and, with Hamilton desperately needing a win at a venue he likes, I'll take the 2/1 available. Of the others, Young vs Ovens is a straight match. Personally, I'm not a fan of Ovens but do think the American is a decent player so will take him at odds against. Not a darts expert but I thought this would have been a closer match in the betting market. I fancy the rest may go to the favs so will leave well alone

CzechPunter
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Needed to clean the bonus today and withdraw money, so I put the remaining amount on a little system bet (Jenkins+Waites+Wade+Whitlock+Anderson+Thorton+Beaton :hope :hope). However, as far as single bets go, my only choice today is Jenkins for obvious reasons - consistency, motivation (he has something to play for, Lewis really doesn't - hope it doesn't go the way the Barney vs. Part match went). Staying away from the rest, although Whitlock looks very interesting.

kevshat
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Just the one for me. 3pts K.McDine to beat S.Beaton 6/4 Sportingbet Steve Beaton has played some wonderful darts in recent weeks but he was a massive disappointment against Gary Anderson in his last match and he won't have it easy against McDine here. McDine is a previous semi finalist at this event so it tends to agree with him and he played well in beating Co Stompe in his last match. Steve Beaton is one of those players who I'd rather be on as an underdog, I'm not overly sure he carries a favourites tag too well. McDine is a hard competitor who can score very heavily and this price is a smidgeon too big on the Geordie so it's him to progress to the last 16 for me. Jenkins was 4-2 up but threw it away & Lewis finished well. The Hammer won well & deservedly against Wade whilst Young came from 3-1 down to take the next 4 legs against Ovens. kevshat
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Nice work mate. We both got let down from 4-2 up otherwise it would've been a seriously good night. Some cracking knockout matches to come. I'm not a huge fan of round robin formats but it's dealt us King vs Barney and Wade vs Jenkins in the last 16, both of which could be semi finals and at one stage we nearly had Hankey vs Anderson too :eek. CzechPunter
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Just to open some discussion here - Is Colin Lloyd really such a huge underdog here? Phil should obviously win, but he was terrible in his last game and 8/1 seems like a little too much. Anyone agrees?
stereoman
Re: Grand Slam of Darts 2009, 14th-22nd Nov (ITV4) Colin Lloyd's 12/1 over at Sportingbet! :eek http://www.oddschecker.com/other-sports/darts/grand-slam-of-darts/phil-taylor-v-colin-lloyd/win-market Taylor doesn't particularly like Lloyd so I'm sure Phil will turn it on tonight. Taylor's performance against van der Voort was most likely an unusual blip (I blame lack of motivation on Taylor not even trying to win) and Lloyd didn't play particularly well against Tony O'Shea last time out even though in the previous match to that he blitzed past Brian Woods like nobody's business. ...but in a one-off situation anything can happen.
