Milos NS Posted August 11, 2009 Share Posted August 11, 2009 LDU Quito (ECU) - Libertad (PAR) Second week of Copa Sudamericana starts this tuesday in Quito, where LDU is host to Paraguayan side Libertad. Winner of this matchup will play against better from Argentinian matchup River Plate vs. Lanus. LDU Quito played in Copa Libetradores, and had awfull campain, they were lats 4th in Group 1 (Sport Recife, Palmeiras, Colo Colo) with 1-1-4 record. They had 1-1-1 record at home, with only win 3-2 against strongest opponent in that group, Palmeiras. However, recently LDU won Recopa Sudamericana against strong Brasilian side, Internacional, won both games (1-0 at Porto Alegre, and 3-0 in Quito), played good in World Club Tournament, and picked their game in Peruvian league (they have 1 win and 2 draws in last 3 games). Team looks much better now, few players are back like defender Ulises de la Cruz (ex Aston Villa, Reading, Birmingham), midlefielder Christian Lara (played for LDU 2006-07, then in Barcelona), midlefielder Édison Méndez (ex PSV Eindhoven), and midlefielder Enrique Vera (ex America Mexico). For this game LDU will be without Enrique Vera and José Francisco Cevallos. Paraguay team and their coach Argentinian Javier Torrente came to Quito, but they are not so happy, because they know how hard is to play at Estadio de Liga Deportiva Universitaria, on 2850 meters above sea level. Libertad will play in this game without Jorge Bava, Omar Pouso and VÃctor Cáceres. Probable squads: Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito: Alexander DomÃnguez, Norberto Araujo, Jairo Campos, Diego Armando Calderón, Néicer Reasco, Patricio Urrutia, Edison Méndez, Paul Ambrossi, Cristian Lara; Claudio Graff y Claudio Bieler. Could've been 10-0 on another day. Hope many of you had LDU on, Libertad mustered about 2 shots right at the end. Odds for straight win is dropping realy fast from 1,79~1,53. Not that they are great generally, but I believe Botafogo is a lot worse. The hosts have good recent form (4-0-2) while the visitors haven't won a game in the last 6 (0-4-2). The hosts recently defeated Botafogo (at Botafogo) 0-1. Furthermore, Botafogo is becoming dangerously entrentched in the relegation zone and I think they need to start thinking about priorities. Yes, a Cup run would be great, but I think they will play with a reserved team tonight which will ultimately lose to an in form Atletico PR.
