Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 5:50 Wolverhampton: Dance The Star 2pts win 11/2 William Hill Dance the Star looks set to run a big race here. He goes well at Wolverhampton and its interesting that Jamie Spencer takes over in the saddle today as he is 4 from 7 with the trainers older horses. And the pair teamed up for a winner yesterday. Dance The Stars last two runs here have been a third and a second in Class 2 races, so this represents a slight drop in grade.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:50 Wolverhampton: Jennerous Blue 1pt e/w 14/1 Stan James Keenes Royal and Jennerous Blue went in to their last race at Kempton joint favourites, and there Keenes Royale ran out a comfortable winner. However, today Keenes Royal is priced up at even money it may pay to side with Jennerous Blue. The sharp track and slowish pace may not have suited Jennerous Blue at Kempton and the extra two furlongs here may suit this daughter of the dual Derby winner Generous better.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:05 Lingfield: Secret Witness 2pts win 1pt place 12/1 Blue Square Secret Witness has dropped six pounds in the handicap since his last run which was a fair effort behind Ponting (winner again since) at Southwell. Also not beaten far by Benandonner here in December and he lines up in a Class 2 event later on today's card. Could go close if producing best form over this six furlong trip and trainer had a winner yesterday.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:30 Haydock: Morgan Be 1pt e/w 25/1 Blue Square & Kia Kaha 1pt e/w 20/1 Sportingbet With Morgan Be all five of his wins have come on heavy and he is out of the handicap and a poor effort last time out, but with the ground riding heavy, he could surprise. Kia Kaha went well here earlier in the season with Morgan Be behind. Not so sure he will like this groung as much, but is lightly raced and certainly goes well at the course.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:35 Kempton: Milne Bay 2pts win 11/1 William Hill & Sutton Venny 1pt win 8/1 Bet365 Milne Bay looks to be coming to the boil again, he had three good wins at Great Leighs a while back, the highest of those off 62. He didn't race during the summer but went close here off 71 in September. He was probably up against it behind Tiddliwinks last time here but ran ok from a poor draw. With a slight drop in grade and a better draw could go close today. Sutton Venny won well last time and only up three pounds for that. Several down the field have run well since, the sixth won yesterday. Likely to go close again.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:00 Kempton: Farleigh: 2pts win 9/1 Blue Square Farleigh looks an interesting sort for Andrew Balding, very lightly raced and open to plenty of improvement. Previous form not enough to win this, however has twice gone well fresh, and Andrew Balding is in good form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 7:55 Kempton: Dvinsky 2pts win 4/1 Bet365 Looking at Dvinsky the slight drop in class here tonight might just be the key. He usually lines up in class 4 races, however today is a class 5. His record in this grade over the past six months is a second a win and a sixth. Maybe those races have just clicked for him, but add in a couple of pounds drop in the handicap, and Dvinsky is worth an interest.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:40 Lingfield: War Of The Roses 2pts win 1pt place 14/1 William Hill War of the Roses may be better over a couple of furlongs further, however he travels well in his races, and has a turn of foot which makes him well suited to Lingfield and most of his best form is unsurprisingly here. A couple of average runs at Kempton have seen him drop to a winning mark, and with trainer in good form, worth chancing at the odds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:30 Lingfield: Orsett Lad 2pts win 1pt place 12/1 Betfred Orsett Lad has been slipping down the handicap and on some of his early form in maidens last year he is on a handy mark. He has not looked like taking advantage of it on past few runs with the stable in the doldrums. However, the stable had a winner yesterday and once you get one you often get several. Hopefully that is the case here!! Its a fairly ordinary race and Orsett Lad is 20lb lower than when first handicapped.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:40 Wolverhampton: Royal Envoy 2pts win 1pt place 16/1 Ladbrokes This race is not easy to call, however Royal Envoy could go well. He has been running over seven furlongs but drops back here and is now down to a mark seven pounds lower than his last win. There have green shoots of recovery in his last couple of runs and with a reasonable draw may spring up at rewarding odds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:35 Cheltenham: Inchidaly Rock 3pts win 100/30 Bet365 Inchidaly Rock steps in to the big time here from novice company and he needs to improve, however there is every reason to think he will. Crucially he is proven over the course and although he clouted a couple last time here, he still won well. He stays the trip and handles the going. Its difficult to weigh up his chase form as he has beaten the same horse twice, Hey Big Spender, huge potential though. Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh remain in excellent form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:15 Lingfield: Bell's Ocean 1pt win 9/1 Paddy Power Bells Ocean is more exposed than most here, but he put up a couple of decent runs at Kempton where he bumped in to Wasimi each time. He was perhaps a little overmatched in a Class 3 at York and this could be more his level and surface. Looking at the jockey booking Stephen Donohoe is 2 from 3 for the yard. That may not be significant as Jerry O'Dwyer is in Dubai, but it is encouraging. The stable is going through a quiet spell so only small stakes, but Bell's Ocean looks a little overpriced.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:30 Cheltenham: Midnight Chase 1pt e/w 33/1 Ladbrokes Midnight Chase was probably flattered to get close to Tazbar last time out, however Ginoland a previous winner and 140 rated was nine lengths behind. Jockey Daryl Jacob has a 25% strike rate on the stables chasers. Midnight Chase ran well here at the Festival last year over hurdles.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:55 Kempton: Stateside 1pt e/w 20/1 Coral & Grey Boy 1pt win 25/1 Sportingbet Stateside had a pretty good season on the turf last year with wins at Ayr and Hamilton and several other placed efforts before a poor final run. Lines up here off 62 for her second all weather start. If she goes on the surface, (every chance she will), then could go close at a decent price. Grey Boy is getting a bit long in the tooth, however is well handicapped goes well here and could pop up at a price.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:30 Southwell: Quiet Mountain 2pts win 13/2 VCbet & Young Gladiator 1pt win 6/1 Coral Quiet Mountain is lightly raced and as the least exposed has a fair chance of improvementt. The drop back in distance here could see him open his account. Trainers horses running well. Young Gladiator is another that may benefit from a drop back in trip. Went close over seven last time out and as a front runner may take some catching.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:20 Wolverhampton: My Mirasol 2pts win 14/1 VC Bet & Barodine 1pt win 9/2 Betfred My Mirasol has all of her four all weather wins here. Been off around a year and was below par before that, but if she can recapture some of her old form off this mark she could surprise. Barodine ran very well last time out, getting a touch hampered before finishing well. A repeat of that second to Grey Command form could be good enough tonight.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Started the month well with two winners, I can't believe the price on Young Gladiotar and is one I probably would have backed yesterday but didn't have much time to study so just left the race. Same with Barodine today really, had him E/W last time out at a nice price so a bit disappointed that I missed him today. Well done though :nana

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Thanks Stu - the BOG certainly came in handy 3:25 Doncaster: Oiseau de Nuit 2pts win 7/1 & Leos Lucky Star 1pt win 7/1 Both William Hill Not very original to put up two of the first three in the betting however they look to have very good chances. The 7/1 seems a fair price. Oiseau De Nuit won well at Ffos Las pulling away from Moon over Miami and Lorient Express in good style. While he has gone up nine pounds there looks to be more to come. Colin Tizzard is in good form and his seven pound claimer Giles Hawkins keeps the ride. In his previous run Oiseau De Nuit was only beaten a neck by Green Belt Elite who went in again off a ten pound higher mark, albeit in a three runner race. So Oiseau De Nuit's form has a decent look about it. Leo's Lucky Star comes from the in form David Pipe yard. And although lacking experience of a competitive handicap has bags of potential and a light weight. Tom Scudamore going great guns too. Leo's Lucky Star is off 135 here, and that seems reasonable as he accounted for Quartz De Thaix who seems to run to about 125 most races, fairly comfortably. Plenty of dangers - but feel these two have the most scope.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:10 Sandown: Alderluck 1pt e/w 33/1 Boylesports & Beshabar 1pt win 13/2 Stan James Alderluck ran Trenchant close at Kempton in November. His run on Boxing Day was poor but if recaptures some of that previous form he could spring a surprise. He goes well for his claimer Jay Pemberton who has chalked up a couple of victories aboard, and Alderluck seems to run best fresh, and he has had forty two days off since his last run. Beshabar looks interesting for Paul Nicholls, he won well here in March 2008 and although like Alderluck he is out of the handicap, he could be better than his rating and every chance the champion trainer will have him primed for this.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 Sandown: Killyglen 2pts win 7/1 Ladbrokes Killyglen was pulled up in the Hennessy, but he had previously run well first time out at Carlisle giving weight behind Knockara Beau. And that rival has subsequently gone close at Cheltenham and then hacked up at Kelso. So if Killyglen is straight for this, and with AP booked you suspect he will be, then should give a good account.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:35 Lingfield: Peak District 2pts win 5/1 Stan James Peak District is a horse that seems to travel really well and arguably has shown his best form here. Nickel Silver looks a hard nut to crack and probably will set a good pace from the front with Wotashirtful. Hopefully though, Peak District can keep close, and with the first time blinkers on, come with a late burst down the outside.
