The most irritating thing is that in the last couple of days I should have been flying but due to pure bad luck I am in no mans land. Got to believe in the potential of these selections though as anybody can see after a day like yesterday where I still came out ahead.

Its difficult mate, and without knowing your selection process its quite difficult to try to analyse. It seems you are getting stung by some of the prices just sneaking under the limit, and I really dont know a solution. :ok

Quite happy to let you have the selection process if you're willing to try and help me. I also keep wondering whether laying 2 mins before the off is the best I could do but then again I have no idea as to whether 1 or 3 mins or anything else will make the slightest difference in the long term???

Just looking at yesterdays qualifiers on the site I use shows quite a few discrepancies. But that's what happens I suppose when you go out. Just have to trust that things won't change too much. So to put this into context yesterday should have been 16-1 but instead ended up 15-3:@ HUUUUGGGEEEEE DIFFERENCE!

Re: Laying attempt no.3 and probably the last if it fails:O( So....with a s/r over 90% I find myself in the negative:\ Biggest obstacles at the moment are the need to eliminate these all too frequent big priced winners while still retaining a lot of the outsiders who have no chance of winning. Change in circumstances like the going (bloody fcukin weather!!!) meaning what was top rated is no longer and vice versa, and the need to go out and have a life calling for things to stay as they are (ie no big list of non runners after I have left the house. Have to believe that the majority of this is just plain bad luck and things will even themselves out in future as regards changes I can have no control over.:unsure As for the prices...today I trial a cutoff of 12.00 which is just as well seeing as I'm keeping stake at £2.80 Laying 2 mins before the off at present. Anybody any better suggestions???

Re: Laying attempt no.3 and probably the last if it fails:O( Certainly a better position than yesterday but unconvinced in the way i'm doing things still Wonder whether it might be a better idea to reduce cutoff to 11.5 but lay a little earlier. Say 3 mins before. That way I'm less likely to pick up steamers which only just touch on 12.00 but could maybe pick up the drifters before they go too far out. Of course it may mean I end up with an even worse price on some of the short odds steamers but I'm not doing well here pricewise anyway so what difference can it really make I ask:unsure?!

Do you have figures on the average lay price and also possibly the average price of your losing lays? Your average lay price would simply be the total odds of all your matched lays divided by the number of matched lays. Average price of the losing lays would be total odds of all your matched losing lays divided by the number of losing lays.

It's hard to tell exactly because you never quite know what price was taken unless you study the markets all the time which is something I don't have time to do. Having said that....there was an 11/1 winner today which wasn't trading that high up until immediately before the race so it's quite possible that I could have got that. If I can cut out a lot of long odds winners and hopefully still grab the odd one or two at longer odds then it should be ok but as you say...time will tell. I'll certainly work out the average odds though anway so thanks for that:ok

Mate, stick them in a spreadsheet then you won't have to add them up again! ;) So on the face of it, you're average odds are nearly 9/1 so it's not really surprising you are hitting the odd 11/1 loser. :ok

Rather a lot of missed prices there but better than laying over the odds. Despite another brilliant day I can't help but be peeved at missing those 2 in the 2:30. Don't know how it happened as I recall looking at the prices for both Dandeygrey & Classy Affair thinking that no horses were going to come inside the cutoff:eyes Really must make sure I cut these errors out as in the long run missing winning lays I should easily get isn't going to help me. The 11.5 thing though overall worked well I thought. Maybe a slight modification tomorrow laying 3 1/2 mins before the off. Feel that with a liiiitle bit more I could be able to land some drifters before they go too high. Don't think I'm going to land too many 10/1 horses (even 9/1 for that matter) laying 11.5 3 mins before the off:unsure

Mate, stick them in a spreadsheet then you won't have to add them up again! ;) So on the face of it, you're average odds are nearly 9/1 so it's not really surprising you are hitting the odd 11/1 loser. :ok

Layed Princess Flame in running which was a ridiculous thing to do and lacks any sort of consistency at all. As would normally happen in situations like this I got punished:@ Will be included in the results despite not falling under 11.5:sad

Glad that's done now anyway! Thanks Hodgey:ok When you're next around i need to ask you about an issue I was having while attempting to save the spreadsheet after further amendments. It's ok but an annoying little message keeps popping up every 5mins that I don't really know how to get shot of. Anyway I'll have to update this thread tomorrow now as have to go to bed. Suffice it to say though....I had another bad one. Combination of things really which for the thread will be all negative but for myself or anyone following would have been not so bad. Timer bets I set turned off and so missed the lay of Mythical Prince but as this was a qualifier I'll simply use the betfair SP to calculate thread loss. Price never came in as far as 11.5 pre-race for Princess Flame so if I hadn't been stupid and layed in running I would have been ok. Again as I took the lay anyway i'll add the in-running price I layed to this thread. All negative for the thread but not quite as bad for my pocket as it could have been haha!! On another note: Seeing as bettrader have changed their software to reset everything after non runners the only convenient way I will have to do this is to lay what I can around lunchtime, some more in the afternoon and some more in the evening. Could work out better as I get some drifters at nice short prices but I guess time will tell on that one.
