I think you need to get away from the actual SP. If you are laying on Betfair then vary rarely you will be able to lay at the SP - especially at higher odds (but then I'm sure you know that already). As a very general rule then laying 10/1 on betfair will probably equate on average to 12/1 so 13.00 - I'd use that as a cut-off.
Completey see what you mean as I find myself looking at these winners and thinking...damn, I didn't want to lay that one. Wasn't in the system:wall But then all the data I have refers to a consistency of being able to lay all or most up to a certain SP. For example I have around 2.5 points leeway where I would still make a small profit on 10/1 horses. If I miss half due to insane prices and land a winner though.....oooh that smarts. Law of averages suggests it would even out over time but never seems to:(
You could always paper trade it for a while to see if it works? :unsure But that's boring though innit! I should have paper traded mine for a lot longer but I couldn't resist getting involved with real cash. Seize the moment and all that eh! :loon
Indeed....boring....and won't help me pay for V festy either:lol

So I notice you always post minutes before the off hodgey. Do you try and stay away from laying before then?
Yep I'm laying about 2 or 3 minutes before the off at the moment. Even that close to the off though there's still plenty of time left for huge price movements.

Yeah I know. Annoyingly there isn't much today as system has stayed well away from Ascot. Presumably this is because all horses racing at Ascot have an ok winning record with mostly trainers in form.

Anyway.....on to more important matters:D s/r 13-0 (100%) today & 22-1 (95.65%) overall p/l £24.96 today & £26.06 overall Bank £126.06 I'm pleased of course but this is just a very nice start and although I'm hopeful that somewhere along the lines this can become a cash cow.....expected s/r is around 89.4%

There's at least 5 non-runners in that list including 4 in the 5-10 at Ripon which might mean more qualifiers for you today. Impressive results yesterday and I hope it continues today. :ok
Non runners could generally only mean less qualifiers as it may leapfrog certain horses up the race ratings. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been convince for a long time that there was something in the data I had and fortunately as the site I get the data from improves then so do the predicted results. :hope

Rather than excluding top OR now or top 2 OR it is based on excluding top 2 in the race ratings compiled by horseracebase. This is of course just one of many filters used but all others apart from the 8+ runners rule are not susceptible to change. Not going to link to the site for now as haven't been given permission but in future hopefully I can make it easy enough for all to check my results are correct....or as correct as I could hope for them to be due to very very last minute changes.....and me having a life:lol

In the 3:30 at Warwick, Command Marshall is no longer a legitimate selection due to Salute (who was 2nd top rating for the race) now being a non runner. Command Marshall was 3rd top rating and moves up to 2nd where I no longer lay.

Re: Laying attempt no.3 and probably the last if it fails:O( So to summarise yesterday... I layed some dreadful prices and mostly got away with it. I barely missed an 11/1 winner that only had a betfair SP 13.00 when my max odds were 12.5. I avoided some big price winners from having a lower cutoff. On the other side of the coin, because I had to go out last night I just left the timers set on bettrader and hoped for the best re non runners. Typically enough I got burned big time on a race I would have left out in the end (only 7 runners) and managed to lay a 6/1 horse for 12.00:eyes There were also a couple of 10/1 & 8/1 horses I would have expected to get but betfair price was stupid crazy:\ So is it a success or not when with a little more luck I could have been looking at a s/r around 30-1, only one 5/1 winner (who I layed at 9.20) and a MAHUSSIVE profit?? You decide:unsure

Re: Laying attempt no.3 and probably the last if it fails:O( The 11/1 winner really screwed me over and as I look apparently the betfair SP was only 12.47 so maybe I would have even got this at a cutoff of 12.00. That being said I have to try and minimise the damage being done by getting too many long odds winners. Tomorrow I'm going to try it at a cutoff of 12.00. Typically enough after missing out on several 10/1 horses I did manage to get the one that won:eyes So although I'm not going to update tonight, it's pretty much back to square one. But only with a higher risk as I'm not planning on reducing the £2.80 stake. Until I get to £200 (IF) then the high risk policy will remain in place. When I'm there (A BIG IF) I'll revise staking accordingly.

Its difficult mate, and without knowing your selection process its quite difficult to try to analyse. It seems you are getting stung by some of the prices just sneaking under the limit, and I really dont know a solution. :ok
