Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! You read my mind AK, Im going to spend all day going through the cards so between us all we should land 6 out of 6 ;)

The new Polytrack circuit has encouraged a different style of racing to that on the old Fibresand track. Although the surface is similar to Lingfield, it is riding considerably slower than many punters realise. The new track is still not as tight and compact as it eventually will be, but horses are more than willing to fully let themselves down on a surface which is springy, inviting and sympathetic. Strong travellers are struggling to get home, and front runners are generally playing into the hands of closers. Like Southwell, this track suits those horses with form beyond the trip they are racing over — an important consideration when shortlisting your bets. Whilst the early fractions of races up to 1m are generally too fast, many races over staying trips have become tactical, so those needing a true test of stamina can come unstuck. Mark Brisbourne, who trains on a similar surface, has become the trainer to follow. In the saddle, Paul Hanagan and Eddie Ahern have displayed the tactical awareness required to pinch races.
I had a look at the cards the other day and if its still running I like the look of Spencers inthe first race but that was just at a glance Welcome to Wolverhampton wolverhamptonboth.gif
02 July 2007 Going: STANDARD (A breezy day with sunny intervals and showers, some heavy and prolonged) 7f - Outside; Remainder - Inside
Draw Advantage: No advantage in the draw. Flat and National Hunt. The flat all-weather track is about a mile round with sharp turns, and has chutes for the six and seven furlong starts. The surface is Fibresand. The National Hunt turf track runs outside the all-weather circuit and is about ten furlongs in circumference. The UK's only floodlit venue, where the Saturday evening meetings regularly draw big crowds. Leading trainers like Sir Mark Prescott, Mark Johnston and Barry Hills often have runners here and the complex also boasts it's own on-site training facilities. ps you will be missed:sad

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! Carl, Spencer rides The Jay Factor for Pat Eddery in the first. Has a good draw in 3, so should go well. Saying that, I think it will go off favourite. I was just looking at Brisbourne, decent trainer who knows how to ready a winner. And yes, AK, you will be missed.

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! Setting off to Birmingham in just over an hour so won't get chance to study form until the day. :wall I had a brief look through and noticed that Johnston has sent one in the 4.00 maiden sponsored by PL. I'm sure many people think a Wolverhampton maiden is nothing special but Boscobel from February runs in the Irish Derby today :loon , it's come a long way in a short space of time. Hope to see some of you there and for those that won't be coming we'll try find a few winners for you and have those bookies cursing the PL crew.

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! Thats an interesting pointer Mowgli. Re: The jay factor, he was beaten by a well treated hiorse last time out and has done little wrong over sprint distances so he's a definite contender for the 1st. I'm liking Scarlet Oak as well though at the moment.

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! First Race. Forecast: 5/1 Nashharry, 6/1 The Jay Factor, 7/1 Call Me Rosy, 8/1 Bentley, Vadinka, Pennyrock, 10/1 Comptonspirit, Musical Parkes, Wadnagin, Metal Guru, 12/1 Rann Na Cille, 16/1 Scarlet Oak, 25/1 Theoretical. I like the look of Bentley also, Proven CD winner here over both 5 and 6f's reasonable draw, has won off 69 over 5f and drops to 65 but also has the claimer onboard. Would have liked Callan on board but I guess we cant have everything.

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! Carl - those draw stats you posted up. The first 2 races were both sprints and the highest drawn horse won both of them - not sure how significant that is but it could be a plus point for Metal Guru in the 1st and Ballybunion in the 2nd

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! yeah both solid E/W's at a decentish price 10/1 and 14/1 I think the high draw in the 6 and in the 7 they probably get a clearer run before they start bunching to the rail so if the high drawn horse has got a good pace at the start it might be worth a nibble on it.

Re: Wolverhampton 2 July - PL Sponsored Raceday! OK, here we go…… prices aren’t official – they are the forecast prices from At The races.

2.30 – Scarlet Oak @ 12/1

the fact he was only beaten ½ length by Chapple-Hyams Nordic Light on its penultimate start catches the eye as the winner has won since and is now rate 15lb’s higher, so that looks a good effort from Scarlet Oak. He was fancied next time out but flopped on turf so the return to this surface can hopefully do the trick. A couple of if's and but's about this one so 12/1 looks fair and "each way" is the bet i reckon.

3.00 Lady Hopeful @ 6/1

As Carl posted previously, “come from behind” (oo-er) performers generally have an advantage at this track and this horse fits the bill. A consistent horse, she has run 2 good races on her recent outings. Last time out at Beverley, she encountered the tracks notorious draw bias and ran respectably. Drawn 9 of 14, the first 6 home were drawn: 16,17,12,14,15,9. She finished well at Lingfield prior to that, leaving her run too late. She looks in good heart and given a better ride here, she should go close.

3.30 – Stringsofmyheart @ 4/1

Won well at Pontefract last time out, with the first 2 9 lengths clear. That was off a mark of 65 and he gets in off 70 here which looks ok based on his effort in a class 2 at Newmarket when he was outclassed. The subsequent drop in class next time out was appreciated and was rewarded with a win. Without a penalty for that, he can follow up again.

4.00 – Sitting this one out but I like Mowgli's earleir point about the Johnston horse Casino Night, so it may be worth siding with that one.

4.30 – Le Chiffre @ 8/1

This won the race last year whilst the stable was in a good vein of form – they had 15% strike rate in July 2006 compared to a 9% strike rate overall for the season. They appear to be peaking around the same time this season too as they had a good 14% strike rate in June, their best month so far this season. Recent results suggest this form can certainly be carried into July, as the trainer/jockey combination had 2 winners on the same card at Bath earlier this week. As for the horse itself, it won the race last year and as such is a C&D winner off a mark of 68. In fact all of the horses wins have come of marks in the 60’s – he runs off 56 today so that’s a bonus. The last 2 runs have been decent and suggest he could be ready to pick up a small race like this soon. Most notable was his penultimate start when he finished a staying on 5th/11, beaten only 2 lengths after fluffing the start.

5.00 – Hoh Wotanite @ 5/1

Was running well in the early part of this year, especially as the trips were on the sharp side for him. He was noted as staying on in those races so the step up in trip was most wlecome last time and he responded with a back to form 2nd. His current mark of 59 looks very attractive on some of its earlier form and Jamie Spencer is booked to take the ride which may be significant.

GOOD LUCK FELLA'S AND HAVE A GREAT DAY! :nana
