hornet_18
SportGolf EventMemorial Tournament SelectionZach Johnson (Each-Way) Strength2/10 Date31/05/2007 Bookmaker/PriceBlue Square @ 41.00 (Back) ReasoningZach Johnson had a well deserved week off last week after his second win of the year. He has been playing brilliantly and is back this week to play a tournament that fits to his strengths. You need an accurate drive to miss the bunkers and extra thick rough and over the last 5years the top putters have all been in the mix come the end of the tournament. Johnson is currently 3rd in driving accuracy, 35th in putting stats and 44th in GIR showing that despite his lack of length off the tee, it still doesnt make that much difference. Adding to this, he finished T2nd last year at this tournament and he has shown he can beat the best at the Masters so he could definitely go one better than last year this week. GL SportGolf EventMemorial Tournament SelectionJose Coceres (Each-Way) Strength2/10 Date31/05/2007 Bookmaker/PriceCoral @ 126.00 (Back) ReasoningJose Coceres is having the most fantastic year. In the five events he has entered this year, he has 3 top 5 finishes and while he hasnt won this year, his odds should definitely not be this high. He is incredibly accurate off the tee with over 78% driving accuracy (best on tour) which is very important here and he is also in the top 50 for putting which is the second key stat in this tournament. However, with the thick roughs and tough bunkers it also helps that he is currently 1st in scrambling and 2nd in sand saves on tour. Having finished 5th at the Players against the best, I see no reason why he shouldnt reach these heights again on a course favouring accuracy rather than length off the tee. GL SportGolf EventMemorial Tournament SelectionSean O'Hair (Each-Way) Strength2/10 Date31/05/2007 Bookmaker/PriceCoral @ 67.00 (Back) ReasoningSean O'Hair is having his 2nd breakthrough year. After struggling at the begginning he has really found his game with 6 top 25s in 6 tournaments. He proved he could challenge the best at the Players where he was 2nd until the 17th in the 4th round and he has taken a couple of weeks off to rest after that tournament. Hopefully he should be well rested. While he is known as a big hitter, he is actually also 25th for driving accuracy and adding to this is 30th in GIR. Adding to this, since he found form 6 tournaments ago his putting average is at under 1.76 which is in the top 20 on tour for putting. He finished 12th here last year (2nd after the first 2 rounds) showing he definitely has the game to challenge for yet another tournament. Hopefully 7 will be his lucky number. GL SportGolf EventMemorial Tournament SelectionTim Clark (Each-Way) Strength2/10 Date31/05/2007 Bookmaker/Price>Bet365 @ 101.00 (Back) ReasoningTim Clark is a man who can relax. Ranking 50th this week he has been given his entry to the US Open. Hopefully this will coincide with his good form finally giving him a win. This is a course that suits him but he often finds it difficult to string 4 rounds together. Last year he was in 4th after two rounds and in 2002 he hit a final 3 rounds of 64-68-71 (had he not hit a first round of 77 these 3 rounds wouldve left him one off the lead). Last week Clark led after two rounds but faded away to finish T12, showing once again his inability to put 4 decent rounds together. However, have faith, he may relax a bit this week after his top 50 ranking and while he sits 27th in putting and 11th in driving accuracy, his game is suited perfectly to this course so hopefully he will be able to fullfill his potential as tournament winner this week. nastro 1888
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament its a good call on zach johnson hornet - if he has a good tournament ( and being possibly the inform player in world golf right now its a good possibility ) the attractive price available for the U.S open in 2 weeks will tumble ( currently an outstanding 66/1 ) Think Ill put my U.S open bet on tomorrow incase, but have a smaller dabble on this weekends tourny. :ok very informative post on Johnson hornet. hornet_18
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament Cheers Nacho. For me he shouldnt be much higher than Furyk and he definitely should be no higher than Sergio but hey, I'll take the odds! On a side note, I think Tim Clark is non-runner which is disappointing. nastro 1888
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament Just backed Johnson @ 28/1 E/W bluesqu in their wisdom have decided to cut the price a day before a ball is even hit - amazing !! :@
Cosmetic Bob
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament PHIL MICKELSON E/W 15/2 Stan James Top 5 @ 11/8 Betfred In fantastic form this year, 2 wins, a 2nd (beaten in playoff) & two third places as well. Seems like Butch Harmon has done a good trick with his swing (surely Tiger needs to go back to win, or maybe not in my case here!:lol ) The only man last year to win back to back titles if you don't include Tiger, the what was known as the Bellsouth Classic and the week after he won the Masters so at least we know he can handle the pressure of winning on his last start. He ties off early as well tomorrow which hopefully will be advantage to the later starters. Has had top 15 finishes all three times he has played here including a 4th last year, but surely his game is better than ever, he is getting birdies for fun in Players Championship and he simply plays like he can get the better of Tiger at the moment, surely he is an e/w cert here! Morris
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament There are some good odds of who will be the top Australasian. I suggest it would probably be Adam Scott, but there is not much competition really in this field, thats why I see a bit of value on betting on it. http://www.valuechecker.co.uk/all_76229075.htm
allthethings
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament Anybody ever bet round 1 only (3 Ball)? Zach is even money to win his group (Curtis and Olazabal), and Mickelson is -145 (Holmes and Taylor). Hell, Woods is only -155 to win his group tomorrow. Is there a trick to this style of bet? wisey10
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament I find betting on the 3ball can be quite tricky. Some of the big hitters often start slow and put in their best rounds later so they aren't always as generous odds as they look. I enjoy punting the 3 ball though and am going for Villegas @ 11/8 in his match up today.
nastro 1888
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament Also took Conceres E/W - read hornets analysis and it matched U.S PGA tour website's thinking also ( 125/1 ) They also have O'Hair as a " sleeper " and mention the 17th hole in his last tournament that affected him psychologically and forced him to take a rest from the tour through the spring, which may have done him the world of good as he is a very talented player. its a pretty decent shout on the 3-ball betting - all the big boys not out until the afternoon, ( local time ) so will know to up the ante if theres a score in the clubhouse, and as stated, doesnt look too much difficulty in the respective 3-balls
allthethings
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament OK, this sucks. I put money on Mickelson at -145, and he's at -1 and Holmes is +2...and there's no Vaughn Taylor in the tournament! Ryan Palmer teed off as the third member of their group, and he's at E, but it's not going to fcuking matter because this is what is written at my book: Wagering on match-ups between golfers The winner of the match-ups will be decided by which golfer ends up with the lowest score having played equal rounds. Both golfers must tee off in the tournament or the wager will be "No Action" or "Push/Cancel" and all money will be refunded. If one of the golfers misses the cut, withdraws, or is disqualified during the tournament, the opposing golfer wins the match-up. So, I guess that's why they were able to offer such generous odds... allthethings
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament I should mention I also took Zach at -105. And also, since I see that Palmer just made an eagle at 7, if by chance he finishes ahead of Mickelson today I'll complain if they don't refund my money. :rollin

Cymro
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament Mate, can't believe your luck, saw Mickelson had withdrawn earlier and went to the pub with Johnson (who I've bet on) placed very nicely. Come back to see he has withdrawn too, what a nightmare! So many things can go wrong with golf betting it would seem.
nastro 1888
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament dont know what happened with Johnson :unsure he was a blistering -4 after 6 holes and completely capitulated ?? took an 8 at an easy par 5 then withdrew after it - nothing on the web about any injuries but there must have been something in it to drop 8 shots in a few holes then withdraw. O'Hair had a good round but with the tiger lurking at -2 and pushed out to 4.00 ( betfred ) and michelson withdrawn, he'll be there or there abouts. vagabund
Re: Golf - Memorial Tournament I bet on zach as well (though at the moment I can't remember the sportsbook where I placed the bet!!). If somebody withdraws before the tournament, at least your $ is returned. Oh well..it's O'Hair with a bunch of them lurking. Memorial seems like an Aussie favorite.
