Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) Collingwood trio banned after going AWOL THREE Collingwood players have been banned by the club from playing against Carlton on Saturday because of a weekend off-field incident. The club said Leon Davis, Shannon Cox and Chris Egan had all disregarded a team directive after Saturday night's victory over Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. All players were told to remain in the team hotel after returning from the ground, but the three players disobeyed that instruction, the Magpies said in a statement. "(They) consequently have been informed this morning that they will not be considered for senior selection vs Carlton next Saturday," Collingwood said. "This decision was recommended by the player leadership group and endorsed by the club management." The trio will play with Collingwood's VFL affiliate Williamstown this weekend. Fairly sure the three will be easily covered, especially Egan, as he is probably the most scared player at the club.

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) ROUND 7

Kangaroos vs Essendon

Head to head since 1980 Kangaroos 22 Essendon 23

Last five games 5 to 0 favouring Kangaroos

At this venue 4 to 0 favouring the Kangaroos

Biggest winning margin Kangaroos 59 Essendon 125

Kangaroos have won the last 5 games played against Essendon, and in those games Essendon’s highest score has been 89 while the Roos lowest score has been 92. The home side has beaten 3 of the top 8 teams so far and has been very competitive against other Top 8 teams, and the Roos are in fine form to take on Essendon.

Collingwood vs Carlton

Head to head since 1980 Collingwood 23 Carlton 34

Last five games 3 to 2 favouring Collingwood

At at this venue 13 to 21 favouring Carlton

Biggest winning margin Collingwood 108 Carlton 111

Collingwood has won 3 of the last 4 against Carlton and has kicked 156, 138 and 128 points in those 3 wins. Carlton is averaging 124 points against this season and they won’t be able to stop Collingwood from kicking a winning score.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond

Head to head since 1997 Port Adelaide 9 Richmond 4

Last five games 3 to 2 favouring Port Power

At this venue 8 to 1 favouring Port Power

Biggest winning margin Port Adelaide 84 Richmond 85

The Tigers have only beaten Port in 2 of their last ten games, but it has happened in two of the last three. The home side has a dominating record at AAMI Stadium and would be wishful thinking to think the Tigers would get up here against an in form Port Power.

Brisbane Lions vs Adelaide

Head to head since 1997 Brisbane Lions 11 Adelaide 5

Last five games 4 to 1 favouring Brisbane

At this venue 7 to 3 favouring Brisbane

Biggest winning margin Brisbane Lions 141 Adelaide 48

Brisbane have won 6 of the last 7 against Adelaide and the away team is having it’s second long trip in 3 weeks after playing in Perth last week, then losing to a good side in Collingwood this week. The home side would be favoured to win this on recent form and home ground advantage.

St. Kilda vs Sydney

Head to head since 1980 St Kilda 19 Sydney 28

Last five games 3 to 2 favouring St Kilda

At this venue 2 to 2

Biggest winning margin St Kilda 101 Sydney 110

The Saints have won 3 of the last 4 against Sydney and seem to handle them alright. This is a game that could go either way, and may be a battle of the forwards.

Geelong vs West Coast

Head to head since 1987 Geelong 14 West Coast 22

Last five games 1 to 4 favouring West Coast

At this venue 9 to 9

Biggest winning margin Geelong 95 West Coast 80

The Cats have only beaten West Coast once in their last 7 meetings and last season West Coast were responsible for one of the greatest comebacks of all time at this same venue when they came from an impossible position to get up and win with a brilliant last quarter. This should be an interesting game given Geelong’s efforts this weekend.

W. Bulldogs vs Melbourne

Head to head since 1980 Western Bulldogs 23 Melbourne 25

Last five games 1 to 4 favouring Melbourne

At this venue 3 to 5 favouring Melbourne

Biggest winning margin Western Bulldogs 120 Melbourne 78

Melbourne might be second last but they have beaten the Dogs in 5 of the last 6 games, eight of the last ten in fact, and this looms as a danger game for the Doggies. Everyone will be expecting a Bulldogs win, but Melbourne will fancy their chances, although the Doggies play Telstra Dome pretty well

Fremantle vs Hawthorn

Head to head since 1995 Fremantle 5 Hawthorn 13

Last five games 1 to 4 favouring Hawthorn

At this venue 3 to 4 favouring Hawthorn

Biggest winning margin Fremantle 61 Hawthorn 89

Hawthorn has no fear of Fremantle having beaten them in 4 of their last 5 meetings, including a win at Subiaco in Perth. The home side’s form is only average and the Hawks are improving every week. Any value about the Hawks is worth having a crack at.

Man, there's some colour about in here!! ;) From a betting pov...without looking at anything at all just yet, I wish the Kangas and Collingwood venues were the other way around. :( Def like the Hawks tho.

Hawks! - absolutely bjv! Freo are the same old Freo with a coach who has no motivational savvy whatsoever. They badly miss deck players such as Peake, Farmer, Shammer. They could afford a couple of their better bigs out rather than all those three. Farmer was a key to their good form last year. The win over Adel is perhaps being overated. The form after Sydney doesn't stack up so good now for the injury ravaged Crows. I make Hawks the fave and Freo, as with Bris game, won't have the stoppage dominance like they did against crows. Like Cats, if price drifts a touch. Also like Richmond but I won't be trying to explain that to you lot. Waiting for Pinnacle to come up, then I doubt I'll be waiting much longer - I can get 3.00 - I must check injuries too. Bateman 50/50, Solomon gets two weeks last I heard??

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) Form always goes out the window when Carlton and Collingwood meet. Massive rivals and its always a good game. History shows between these two teams that when Carlton are down low on the ladder they can beat Collingwood, and vice versa. Will be a very interesting game, even in Carltons dark years they still found ways to beat Collingwood. Round 22 in 2004 comes to mind :lol But if you are going to go on form here, then Collingwood look like morals at the moment. They are playing some great footy, and while Carlton are playing well in patches they seem incapable of putting 4 quarters of it together. I'll be there, so as long as its close and im not wasting moeny on a 50+ point thrashing, ill be happy :dude

Agreed ads! Also I think pies have been up lately, for two big games, so that could be due to slacken. Bookies seem on to this one though with the market about right IMO.

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) Yum Yum Yum... I'll eat up those odds on Hawks and kangaroos. Might also have a nibble on Carlton... might.. Edit: Any odds on the St Kilda vs Swans match? I like St Kilda at the dome and am hoping for evens.

Not many bookies have odds available yet, but TAB have theirs up and St Kilda are at $1.80 and Sydney $1.90 Pretty close, but you can expect to get better odds elsewhere later in the week :ok

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) Oh man... ...what a nastty, nasty, NASTY week for tipping/betting... ...in fact, I think I can safely say that the only real winner this week will be football ;) lol... ...Stats are remarkably and surprisingly close for Friday night. Obviously Kangas with a decent I50 advantage, but Essendon are far more effecient with it than anyone they've played so far...well, besides Geelong, but their stats are skewed by big wins against the bottom 3. But, yeah, I don't suspect Essendon can top 25 shots...esp. if Lloyd misses again...Kangas had less than 27 just once, but against a reasonably solid defensive Hawthorn... ...na, talked myself into it. Kangas form has to be better, and really should win. Not entirely confident tho... Carlton ay? Well..not for me! No real doubt for me that Collingwood win. Enough comment on the Blues' D, but its pretty amazing that any team can allow a score every 1.64 entries!! The problem from a spread pov, is that the Pies are often wasteful up forward, and a 25 point win v. Richmond is a worry. Still, they won both meetings last year by 44 and 72, scoring 138 and 156 in the process. Let's be honest, 1.45 is a more than fair offer here. Will be on Pies ML. Again, no real doubt about a Port win, but certainly couldn't take them @ 1.10...or the -30ish. They've won just one game by more than 18, and Tiges lost just one by more than 32 (but what a one it was!! :D) Best left alone, for me. Adelaide won in Brisbane last year by 15...had 5 more shots and 58 I50's to 41!!...They aren't going nearly aswell this year tho. Forwardline struggling big time. Freo D worse than Brisbane's and Crows could only manage 8.9. Brisbane off a couple of very soft wins tho could be vulnerable. Tough game, imo. Lean Brisbane, but not at 1.75ish! Could the Crows drift out to 2.20?? Saints/Swans another very tough game, imo. Neither team in great form. Two trips to Melbourne for the Swans, a loss last week and a small win v. Richmond... Small lean to the Swans, but will be looking for a total play in this one...hoping for an inflated total due to last weeks games. Looks like a snorer to me. Geelong/WC...(Did I mention it was a bad tipping week?!). Geelong belting up crap teams indoors, WC getting it done, but I'm not sure they've had the toughest draw either...A one point win in Sydney where they were statistically belted!...home wins to Collingwood (just), Freo (poor), Carlton (bad), Dogs (poor) and an unconvincing Richmond win... ...just tough to trust a team that is so inefficient/unorganised even at times, up forward. Eagles won down there last season, but had 2 less I50's and 2 less shots. Chapman out will hurt Geelong... ...guess there's just too many reasons to take the Eagles, but again, not convinced. Tough trip for them. Dogs look decent at 1.40. Melbourne an improved performance last week, but maybe more of a Port letdown after 2 good wins, both in wet conditions? All 3 of the Dogs losses have been 'expected'...Murphy out wil hurt, but I think the venue is the key. Melbourne 4 of 10 here since 2004...all as big favs. They just don't have the defensive pressure or capabilities down back to hold the Dogs to a low enough score. Basically when Dogs hit 100 in the dome, they win. D's allowing 29 shots a game, and are the lowest scoring team, and go inside 50 the least. Stats suggest a Hawks win...but a big loss over there last year does concern me a bit. Still without Williams and Jacobs...still defense could be the difference in this one. Freo allowed 26+ shots to everyone except a totally impotent Adelaide, and have only had 25+ once, v. a totally defenseless Melbourne!...Hawthorn allowed 24+ to only Dogs and Cats, bith of who are far more efficient than Freo up forward. +17.5 will tempt me I reckon ;) Good work and good luck guys...

Your just itchin to back the tiges Taza, I know it :D (cap at 38.5).

Brisbane arn't too far off a bet for me. Won't surprise if they're totally up for this. I've closely watched their body language last few. To kangas, it was terrible - blazee when they ran out. Carlton were highly UP in body language compared to Brisbane (except Brown who had blinder written all over him) yet Bris still prevailed. The BL for both Freo and Bris was just moderate last week, so it makes me feel Bris could easily set themselves for a mini GF this week. Will Adel? You'd expect something but do they really have the fire power? (Hudson in doubt isn't he?)
Stats suggest a Hawks win...but a big loss over there last year does concern me a bit.
Freo were in peak form at the time tho Taza. Hawks were struggling with injuries a little and debuted two kids. I think that game has little to do with where these two are now and the ground shouldn't harm the Hawks prospects - as a matter of fact I feel the slow Freo could be the ones vulnerable on their own patch. Put that 25G on 'em mate. :ok

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) AFL Round 7: Match Previews Kangaroos vs Essendon The inform Roos host Essendon in the opening match of the round at Telstra Dome. The Kangaroos are flying at the moment on the back of 3 solid straight wins against Brisbane, Geelong & Sydney. The Bombers are coming off 2 straight losses which has seen them slip to 9th on the table after a good start to the season. Essendon full forward Matthew Lloyd will miss the match with a hamstring strain which is a big loss for the Bombers, while the injury news is more favorable for the Roos with no major injury concerns coming into this match. Recent history favours the Kangaroos as they have won the past 5, Essendon have not beat them since 2001. Last 5 Head to Head: Kangaroos 5, Essendon 0 Collingwood vs Carlton The Magpies host the Blues in the annual battle for the Peter McCallum Cup at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. Collingwood's strong start to the season continued with last weeks win interstate win in Adelaide which saw the pies rise to 4th on the table, while Carlton suffered there fourth lost of the season at the hands of St Kilda and currently sit 14th. Carlton will be delighted to hear former captain Anthony Koutoufides may be ready to return to their lineup pending a fitness test, while the Blues welcome back Brad Fisher to the squad after a 2 week lay off with a fractured jaw. Collingwood have a few concerns coming into this match, Simon Prestigiacomo will face a late fitness test on an injury he picked up last week, as will Ryan Lonie & Alan Didak. The Pies have suspended 3 players for offield discretions and they are Leon Davis, Chris Egan & Shannon Cox. Last 5 Head to Head: Collingwood 3, Carlton 2 Port Adelaide vs Richmond Well just when you think Richmond's season cant get any worse after their 157 point drumming last week to Geelong, they now face back to back Adelaide trips starting this Saturday against Port Power. It will be interesting to see how Richmond answer their critics this week but its very hard to see them getting close to Port Adelaide who are firing at the moment with 5 wins from 6, and sitting pretty in 2nd position. Richmond sit last with 0 wins. Richmond Tambling & Troy Simmonds will both face fitness tests for Richmond and its vital these two play if the Tigers want to be a show here, while the injury news for Port Adelaide is pretty good. Dean Brogan is a chance to return this week, as is Troy Chaplin. Last 5 Head to Head: Port Adelaide 3, Richmond 2 Brisbane vs Adelaide Adelaide travel Saturday night to take on the high flying Lions on the back of a loss at home to Collingwood last week. The Crows will need to pick up some form soon if they want to beat the Lions here, or let alone finish in a top 4 position. They currently sit in 8th position and their growing injury crisis is threatening to derail their season. Brisbane currently sit in 3rd position with 4 wins from 6 and are playing a very exciting brand of football, especially with their young kids. The Crows currently have 14 players who are injured or not fit, a list which includes some big name players. Ben Hudson, Jason Proplyzia & Nick Gill are the only players who look like returning this round. The injury news isnt as bad for Brisbane, Joel Tippet will face a fitness test. Last 5 Head to Head: Brisbane 4, Adelaide 1 St Kilda vs Sydney The Saints returned to the winners list last week with a good win over Carlton which sees them rise to 11th on the table after some shaky early season form. Sydney was on the receiving end of a resurgent Kangaroos last week and have dropped down to 7th on the table. Steven Baker will miss this match for St Kilda due to suspension, while several other players remained sidelined long term as St Kilda's injury list grows. Barry Brooks is the only player likely to be available, but he will face a test. Sydney's injury list is not as bad, Tadgh Kennelly will miss 4-6 weeks, but Amon Buchanan & Sean Dempster look likely to return for Saturday nights match. Last 5 Head to Head: St Kilda 3, Sydney 2 Geelong vs West Coast This is potentially the game of the round with an early start at Skilled Stadium in Geelong. The Cats returned to the winners list in style last week with a massive 222-65 victory over the hapless Tigers, an effort which broke several records and saw Geelong have 15 different goal scorers. This week will be a massive test as they host the undefeated West Coast Eagles where there may still be scars from the corresponding game last season here where Geelong gave up a 54 point lead late in the 3rd quarter only to see West Coast come back to win by 3 points. Geelong sit 6th but the worrying sides are the fact the only sides they have beaten are the bottom 3 sides. West Coast are top of the table with 6 straight wins. Bad news for Geelong with superstar Paul Chapman being ruled out with injury which is a massive loss, while Matthew Egan looks likely to return to the squad. There is some doubt on West Coast big man Dean Cox after picking up a back injury, while Jaymie Graham will miss. Geelong have only beaten West Coast once since 2003 Last 5 Head to Head: Geelong 1, West Coast 4 Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne The 12th placed Bulldogs host the 15th placed Demons in a must win match for both teams. Neither club here would of predicted to be this low on the table in the pre season due to the talent on their lists. The Bulldogs have not found their stride so far this season, at times they have shown glimpse of brilliance but have been very inconsistent, while Melbourne's issues appear to have stemmed from their shocking list of injuries. The Demons have been unable to field anything remotely resembling their best team, but they now have players returning and will try and make a dash up the ladder. Brad Green looks like returning which will be a huge boost, whilst Paul Wheatley may also return, and youngster Brock McLean cant be too far away. The Dogs don't have too many injury concerns, Chris Grant and Rob Murphy remain on the sidelines though however. Also worth noting is the fact the Western Bulldogs have only beaten Melbourne once since 2001 with Melbourne winning 10 of the past 11 clashes. Last 5 Head to Head: Western Bulldogs 1, Melbourne 4 Fremantle vs Hawthorn These two teams site in opposite positions on the table as most people would of predicted pre season, the Dockers are 13th with 2 wins while Hawthorn are 5th with 4 wins. Fremantle are really struggling at the minute and its hard to put a finger on why that is, they will look to gather some momentum at home on Sunday night to get their season back on track, but it wont be easy against an inform Hawthorn who beat Essendon last week with young superstar in the making Lance Franklin kicking 9 goals. Hawthorn have so many kids firing at the moment and their mixture of youth and experience looks very telling. Also favouring Hawthorn is the fact they have won 4 of the last 5 meetings head to head with Fremantle. The Hawks may have Chance Bateman return this round pending a fitness test which will be a big boost, while Danny Jacobs looks set to miss again. Fremantle will miss Dean Soloman to suspension and don't have any players returning from injury this round. Last 5 Head to Head: Fremantle 1, Hawthorn 4

Re: AFL Football - Round 7 (May 11th - 13th) Whats with Channel 10 deciding to show the Port Adelaide vs Richmond match Saturday afternoon rather than the Collingwood vs Carlton match?!!? :$ The Pies-Blues match will be shown on Foxtel, so if you follow either of these two clubs you will have to miss it to watch the 16th placed (and winless) Tigers take on the 2nd place (5 wins from 6) Power away from home in what looks like another flogging in the making. What are the schedulers at Ten thinking? These TV rights cost $750M or thereabouts and so far Channel 7 have been terrible for their coverage and commentators, while Ten arent much better with mistakes like this. For those lucky enough to be able to afford pay tv to get to watch the Fox games they have been a bit better, but sheesh, its been very very lacklustre so far... Whats everyone else think? :loon
