Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though play for free first to get the hang of the game mate - i think holdempoker.com still gives you playmoney which you can play against others with playmoney too, so its not costing you anything. also keep an eye on these threads in order to keep a track on the freerolls.

Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though Callpane, I find Pokersyte very helpful for beginners. http://www.pokersyte.com/basic.htm is the real basics (which hands are best, etc.) http://www.pokersyte.com/holdem.htm is a basic strategy for Texas Hold'em, which is the most popular. I'm sure that others will pop along and recommend some good threads here to help you out more, but I think if you read those two pages you'll at least know roughly what you're doing!

Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though hi mate, all i can advise is to read the threads on here, that is all i have done and with the help of morlspin and a couple of others to begin with,my game has improved one hell of a lot, also the quickest way i feel is to play the focus games that gaf? organises on a daily basis.just look on the list for each day that is posted,,,,,there are a lot more people on this forum much more experienced than me,just listen and try to learn from them.. i wish you all the very best...:hope :hope :ok

Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though http://www.vcpoker.com/pokerschool/holdem/index.htm This helped me out when I first started. When you want to get more in depth read the Full Tilt tips, and Daniel Negreanus scribblings at http://www.fullcontactpoker.com I also recommend reading a book or two - or if thats a little heavy at first, watch a DVD - Hellmuths is good for basic winning strategy, Howard Lederer's two DVDs are fantastic but a real slog to watch too.

Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though one tip for you if you start playing real money i would mayby start at 1.5.30 games as when i was new to poker i tie d.1/.2 cent games and it was dreadfull becouse the play was just as it was play money good luck buddy also the majority of bookamakers that have poker/casino will allow you to transfer funds i would suggest ladbrokes due to their new customer bonus if you deposit 100 dollars for every 50 raked hands which includes blinds you will get 10 dollars back but you must claim it of them.

When you make the transition to playing for real money (actually nothing stopping you straight away) I would say start with freerolls - don't deposit anything and dont risk any of your own money - build a bankroll from freerolls - as you do that - you can risk THEIR money in buy in tournaments..... It can be slow, and you wont get rich, but its a good way of starting out...... Rhodri is talking about cash/ring games - my advice would be to steer clear of them completely - even at the low levels - you should play tournaments only to start off with - your money will go a lot further..... Something else I would recommend is to watch Poker Night Live (Sjy Ch 843 or live webcast) which is broadcast between 9 pm and 1 am every night. They have "experts" commenting on the play (with everyones cards exposed) - if you play in their freerolls you will probably find them commenting on your play too....... it's a good way to learn

Re: Complete Novice. Would like to learn though the sporting odds league isnt a bad way to learn as its only$1 entry and the play on there is very good usually. also freerolls are excellent with some offering good payouts ,but as with every free game some of the play won't be exactly textbook stuff but its a good way to learn a lot about the game for free.
