Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets

Not at those odds - tough group, might struggle to qualify here. I'd put them at around 12-1.
Group betting also available if anyone thinks it's a safer way to back some teams which might be value on this stage.

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets Definitely think cameroon are worth a punt, in a relatively easy group probably have the best striker in the tournament in Samuel Eto'o and not qualified for the world cup so will be out to prove a point, all of which point to a punt on the indomitable lions for me.

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets Just been having a good look at Cameroon for there group and I have a slight problem with Togo from the bbc site Having missed the last finals in 2004, they made it to Egypt 2006 by winning a tough pool which also included Senegal. Togo's mean defenders conceded just eight goals in 10 qualifying matches but they will be severely tested when Nigerian Keshi leads them into battle in Egypt. Could cause a few problems for everyone making the group a bit tighter. Has anyone actually seen them play though?

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets I wrote this up last week on another site - anyway, thought it might be of interest to some here too: Looking forward to this - thought I'd start the ball rolling by posting up my preview from the Newsletter. 2006 African Nations Cup -tongue.gif Jan 20 to Feb 10tongue.gif tongue.gif Here’s my take on the Nations Cup.tongue.gif tongue.gif The Attack, Defence and Overall rankings are my own. They are based on performances at home and away during the last 5 years, with the most recent games weighting more heavily. The strengths of the opposing teams were also taken into account. tongue.gif The rankings are from 1=top, through to 16=lowest for the 16 finalists.tongue.gif The odds quoted are from Bet365. tongue.gif Group Atongue.gif tongue.gif Egypttongue.gif has an outstanding home record - this team scores goals!tongue.gif 20/04/2000 Mauritiustongue.giftongue.gif 23/04/2000 Egypt 4 2 Mauritiustongue.giftongue.gif 02/09/2000 Egypt 1 0 Ivory Coasttongue.giftongue.gif 14/01/2001 Egypt 4 0 Libyatongue.giftongue.gif 28/01/2001 Egypt 0 0 Moroccotongue.giftongue.gif 11/03/2001 Egypt 5 2 Algeriatongue.giftongue.gif 06/05/2001 Egypt 1 0 Senegaltongue.giftongue.gif 03/06/2001 Egypt 3 2 Sudantongue.giftongue.gif 13/07/2001 Egypt 8 2 Namibiatongue.giftongue.gif 08/06/2003 Egypt 7 0 Mauritiustongue.giftongue.gif 20/06/2003 Egypt 6 0 Madagascartongue.giftongue.gif 20/06/2004 Egypt 1 2 Ivory Coasttongue.giftongue.gif 05/09/2004 Egypt 3 2 Cameroontongue.giftongue.gif 27/03/2005 Egypt 4 1 Libyatongue.giftongue.gif 05/06/2005 Egypt 6 1 Sudantongue.giftongue.gif 04/09/2005 Egypt 4 1 Benintongue.giftongue.gif WCQ/ANQ: 3rd behind Ivory Coast and Cameroon, but ahead of Libyatongue.giftongue.gif Attack: 1 Defence: 11 Overall: 2 tongue.gif Odds: 5/1 tongue.gif My view: Home advantage and locally based players can take this team all the way.tongue.gif tongue.gif They remind me of…Man United at Old Trafford tongue.gif Look out for…An Egyptian military general instructing the opposition to go out and ‘lose for your own safety’ – as is rumoured happened in the 1986 final against Cameroon. tongue.gifEgypt tongue.gifwon in extra time! tongue.gif Ivory Coast tongue.gifhas a star-packed squad whose confidence is sky-high. tongue.gif WCQ/ANQ: 1st ahead of Cameroon, Egypt and Libya tongue.giftongue.gif Attack: 4 Defence: 3 Overall: 3 tongue.gif Odds: 6/1 tongue.gif My view: Don’t believe the hype – just yet. Three North African teams to deal with in this group is a very tall order – effectively three away matches in a continent where home advantage is very significant. Nice team to watch though possibly facing an early exit. tongue.gif They remind me of…Arsenal tongue.gif Look out for…so many squandered chances, you’ll wonder how any team could miss so many – as this is the way they have played at every Nation’s Cup in memory. Let’s hope the president doesn’t lock them up again…tongue.gif tongue.gif Morocco tongue.gifhas a super-solid defence, and their third coach in three months…tongue.gif WCQ/ANQ: 2nd behind Tunisia, but ahead of Guinea tongue.giftongue.gif Attack: 10 Defence: 1 Overall: 7 tongue.gif Odds: 14/1tongue.gif tongue.gif My view: The runners-up in the last Nations Cup might struggle to get through this group with drawn games or a poor goal difference. But watch out for this North African team if they get to the knockout stages as this team just doesn’t concede goals (unless, see below…). tongue.gif They remind me of…Liverpooltongue.giftongue.gif Look out for…The goalkeeper inexplicably missing a cross, with three covering defenders jumping together and heading an own goal – as happened in their last WCQ against Tunisiatongue.gif. A goal that put Moroccotongue.gif out! tongue.giftongue.gifLibya tongue.gifhas an in-form defence, but plays terribly away from home. tongue.gif WCQ/ANQ: 4th behind Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Egypttongue.giftongue.gif tongue.gif Attack: 16 Defence: 8 Overall: 14 tongue.gif Odds: 100/1tongue.gif tongue.gif My view: They can beat good teams in Tripolitongue.gif, but rarely gain a point away. Libya tongue.gifmight sneak a goalless draw somewhere, but nothing else.tongue.gif They remind me of…Portsmouthtongue.giftongue.gif Look out for…Gaddafi’s son – he used to be the centre forward and he’s still a reserve striker for Udinese! tongue.giftongue.gif

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets Group B tongue.gif Cameroon has an excellent defence, and is one team that can win in Africatongue.gif when playing away from home.tongue.gif WCQ/ANQ: 2nd behind Libyatongue.giftongue.gif Attack: 7 Defence: 2 Overall: 5tongue.gif Odds: 9/2 Favtongue.gif My view: Favourites, but based on reputation mostly. This team was only a ‘265th minute time added on for being at home’ penalty miss away from Germany. A lot depends on whether Eto'o plays or stays with Barcelonatongue.gif, but they will certainly take some beating. tongue.gif They remind me of…Chelseatongue.gif, but with old playerstongue.gif Look out for… their sponsors coming up with another dodgy kit, like that one-piece rubbish from the last Nations Cup.tongue.gif Angola tongue.gifhas a decent strike force that has been under-performing recently. WCQ/ANQ: 1st ahead of Nigeria and Zimbabwetongue.giftongue.gif Attack: 12 Defence: 4 Overall: 10tongue.gif Odds: 14/1tongue.gif tongue.gif My view: No team from Southern Africa ever does anything up here, and Angolatongue.gif are one of the worst travelling teams. Ironically, it was a 1-0 away win in Rwanda that gave them the passport to Germanytongue.gif. It was their first away win in five years. Will take an early plane home…tongue.gif tongue.gif They remind me of…West Hamtongue.gif Look out for… lots of sendings off. Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets Like the look of the Ivory Coast they have some of the best players and a good squad. Toure in defence, Didier Zokora in midfield and Drogba upfront are three excellent players. Cameroon, havnt qualified for the world cup so maybe they will want to bounce back in style. They have one of the best strikers in the world in Samual Eto'o also Geremi is a class act aswell. Tunisia have an easy group with Zambia,Guinea and South Africa. They have a good manager in Roger Lemmere and are the current holders They have some good players and a strong defence with Trabesli from Ajax and Jaidi from Bolton. Cameroon to win group B @ 1.67 betfred Tunisia to win group C @ 1.91 betfred Didier Drogba top goal scorer @ 10 bluesq Ivory Coast to win @ 7.5 betfair

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets Some good info in here I'm not sure myself what I'm gonna do yet, I think Egypt will be hard to beat but Ivory coast and Cameroon will be tough as well. Hopefully this tournament will be profitable though :hope

Re: African Nations Cup Winner and Tournament Bets I am going to wait and see how the tournament starts before putting down any serious money. I think two teams to look at opposing are ghana without star player essien and south africa who constantly seem to be in disarray. Two teams i might have a bet on winning the tournament are tunisia and senegal. Tunisia are the holders and have what looks a fairly easy group and senegal have the players but have question marks over temperament.
