Re: Tennis Lower Ranked Favourites hi mr. I. i ran this system thru my database of tennis matches so far this season and it gave a small loss. the only positive system i could find was 'lower ranked players in non grand slam tournaments'. returns would have been improved a little by ignoring hard court matches. minimal profits though, not enough for me to want to take on the system, plus i have no interest in tennis really so never know when th tournaments are coming up.

Re: Tennis Lower Ranked Favourites - i think that lower ranked players are definitely the ones to go for, but some other filter is needed as well. just the first idea that came into my head - how about head to head record? maybe only bet if the lower ranked player has a positive h2h record or has never played the opponent before?

Re: Tennis Lower Ranked Favourites

Well having read the thread I'm actually wondering why the system backs the lower ranked person at shorter odds. Looks to me like a reverse would be better - backing the higher ranked player. Anyone care to comment? mat.
Hi Mat, thanks for your interest:ok. The theory is that the ranking of the player is over-factored into the price. So other factors such as form, surface preference, fatigue etc which are short-term factors are under-factored into the price. The perfect example is Roddick on clay: he's pathetic on European clay, but is sometimes favourite or a small outsider during the clay court season against proper clay court players. So in this situation, I'm saying that when he is the outsider, the bookmakers are scared to make him a really huge price (which sometimes he should be) because the name and ranking will still attract a lot of people to bet on him. It was exactly the same with Ginepri last night, he's in awful form and awful on clay, up against a solid clay courter. The bookies were never going to make him 3.00 or higher because a lot of money would have went on him because of the name or ranking, but perhaps he should have been that big. As you can see it isn't going too well, but it has performed in the past and hopefully it should good in the next couple of months backing the Spaniards and South Americans all the mug money has never heard of:tongue2 :ok
