Re: retirement Last night in the New Year freeroll I was sat with someone called 'danno xxxx'. When I arrived at the table I wondered if it was you, danno. So I said in chat "Is that you bad beat?" msaban, "lol" danno, " " A bit later I get dealt AKo and raise 4xBB and this danno (who I thought was you, but wasn't sure) raised to put me all in. So I called and he turned over AJo. His reply (and only comment), "Nice kicker" Fcuk you I thought and replied "Nice bet":ok At this point I was certain it was you! :lol I still wasn't sure when Big Andy popped up on my table about 1/2 hour later. I had to wait til the break to see I was wrong. :rollin FENNERS: Is he like this all the time? I could just imagine him rescuing some poor bloke out of a burning building and spotting some poker chips. As he gives him a firemans lift down the ladder all you'd hear above the roar of the flames is,"And the lucky bastid went all in with 79h and flopped a straight flush, ffs!"

Re: retirement I have had the following reply from Sporting Odds...

Thank you for your e-mail regarding this issue. All customer transactions within the games themselves are recorded and can be traced in the event of queried game outcomes. All of which mean we and our customers can remain confident in the knowledge that we offer the most secure and accountable online casino gaming and banking experience available. To ensure fair gaming results, casino games are based on a system that generates true-random numbers. In order to provide our customers with a reliable, trusted gaming experience, Boss Media has spared no effort in the development of its Random Number Generator (RNG) By using a Blowfish cryptographic algorithm as a random number generator (RNG), Boss Media can ensure that all numbers and cards generated at our casinos are statistically random and unpredictable at every stage. The RNG is continuously fed with initial data, keys and number of iterations for background cycling from an external hardware. This external hardware complements the Blowfish algorithm as it also generates true random numbers, based on amplified noise (white noise) from two independent Zener diodes. This system is highly resistant to failure and ensures true-random number generation. To further ensure the integrity of our games, we have retained the services of PricewaterhouseCoopers, an internationally renowned accounting firm, to review the output of the random number generator. If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Now for me, that avoids confirming an independent audit of card randomness and just tries to pretend to answer the question without doing so. So I have sent them the reply below, but as I understand it, there is no independent audit of random cards, from just about the only poker network I know where individuals cannot check for themselves, as there is no hand history generated!!! :loon
Thankyou for your reply. Am I right in my understanding from you reply that there is no independent audit into the randomness of the cards dealt in your poker room? Yes, individual games can be tracked/checked at a customers request. Yes, you use a "Blowfish cryptographic algorithm as a random number generator. Yes, Boss Media purport to be able to generate Statistically random cards. Yes, PricewaterhouseCoopers have been retained to review the output of the random number generator (though the only certificate I was directed to from them showed that they demonstrated the rate of return in the casino, and nothing else). But no independend auditors have verified the randomness of the cards dealt in the Poker room?
Now I still genuinely believe the cards are random and they're not fixed, but I don't believe BossMedia are helping themselves here, and there is a lack of transparncy and effort to "prove beyond doubt" that the cards are random - a step other card rooms take!

Re: retirement Could this be a case similar to fruit machines? It says the average payout is 70% and this has to be externally and independently verified. However we all know that sometimes the machine is 'overfair' (say when it's full) and sometimes 'underfair' (say when it's just paid out the jackpot 3 times in quick succession) but is on average fair.

Re: retirement SO is not rigged! If they're using a Blowfish algorithm for their deal that's enough for me - the only real concern is an algorithm with non-random seeds that potentially allows players to simulate it. The idea that the RNG would be weighted like a fruit machine doesn't really make sense either. They take rake and tournament fees, they take the same amount of each regardless of the results - it's other players paying you when you hit, not SO, so there is no payout cycle to force like on a fruit machine. You can get a full hand history from SO on request (they offered to send me one to see how many raked hands I'd played), so you could verify the deal that way with a large enough sample, about 100,000 hands. But it just wouldn't make any sense for them to fix the deal - it'd be hugely more complicated/expensive to program, totally illegal, and would'nt make them any money.
