The Brigadier
We have a few technical issues posting the day's daily tips so I will be posting them here for the next day or two - Wednesday April 27th NAP Ascot 4.10 Go Bears Go The highest rated of this quintet David Loughnane’s three year old sprinter should be too good for his four rivals if straight enough on his seasonal re-appearance. He showed top sprinting form as a juvenile in group company with his only flop coming when stepping up to 7F in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes. Rossa Ryan knows him well and he can put himself firmly in the picture for the Commonwealth Cup back here at the Royal meeting in June by winning this. DAILY ACCA Punchestown 6.30 Facile Vega It’s that man Mullins again! He saddles 5 of the 9 runners here and it’s very hard to see past his unbeaten Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner Facile Vega, the first offspring of that amazing mare Quevega. He has comfortably beaten all 8 of his rivals either at Cheltenham or at the Leopardstown Racing Festival and it will be a shock if he doesn’t confirm the form and give Mullins yet another winner of this race. He’s won 8 of the last 10 runnings. Wolverhampton 2.10 Najeeba Appears to have an array task here against two out of form horses and another who we haven’t seen for 565 days. Harry and Roger Charlton’s Imad Alsagar owned four year old was a winner over course and distance in March and only raised 3lb should be following up under the owners retained rider Hollie Doyle despite the likely cramped odds. Punchestown 5.55 Allaho Willie Mullins trains five of the nine runners in this three miles Punchestown Gold Cup with warm favourite Allaho the one they all have to beat with the big question being is he as effective at three miles as at shorter? He seems a better horse now then he ever was and if he can replicate his Ryanair Chase victory here can take this for. Mullins and Paul Townend. DAILY TIPS Punchestown 5.20 The Nice Guy I can’t see any real reason why Willie Mullins’ The Nice Guy can’t confirm form over Minella Cocooner who he beat 5L at Cheltenham in the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle over the same trip and ground with Bardenstown Lad, Good Time Journey and Ramillies further behind. Paul Townend was on board the runner up Minella Cocooner that day but has jumped ship and rides The Nice Guy here. He’ll be hard to beat. Punchestown 7.05 Ciel De Neige Willie Mullins saddles 4 of the 13 runners here and has an excellent chance with his novice Ciel De Neige who will be ridden by Mark Walsh here as the retained jockey to JP McManus. A winner of three of his four chases he was beaten at odds 9n when a nose second to French Dynamite at Thurles in March when he possibly found 2m 2F too short in good ground and will appreciate stepping up in trip here today. Ascot 1.50 Tahitian Prince A winner first time out last season this Richard Hannon trained five year old racked up four successes from seven starts last season and looks a good bet in the one mile apprentice handicap where he will be ridden by Liam Browne who claims 5lb and who has ridden 13 winners in his relatively short career from 122 rides since coming over from Ireland. Ascot 3.00 Grande Dame One of two fillies here trained by John and Thady Gosden this unraced Lope De Vega three year old was put in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes this week by his wily trainers and the hint should be taken with Ryan Moore riding for her illustrious owners Mrs Tabor, Magnier and Shanahan. Gosden’s other runner Kings Joy and the promising Varian runner Mukaddamah will be big threats but the value may lie with what many will perceive to be the Gosden ‘second’ string. Ascot 3.35 Wordsworth Highly unimpressive last time when scraping home at Gowran Park from Sunchart who’s rated 8lb inferior to the selection this Aidan O’Brien trained four year old is better than that and can make up into a decent staying horse this season. This will be his first attempt at two miles but he’s always looked a good staying type and I’m expecting him to improve for the added distance. There’s plenty of dangers here mind including Princess Zoe and Tashkhan although the latter would definitely prefer easier conditions. Ascot 5.10 Celsius EW Although he’s 5 years older than any other horse in this 5F handicap Pettochside must have a good chance to follow up last year’s victory in this contest from a 3lb lower mark. He should go well but it’s the Tom Clover trained Celsius that catches my eye. He’s fallen back to a winning mark and has won first time out in the past so hopefully fitness won’t be an issue on this his seasonal re-appearance. He was last seen when flopping badly at Leicester last September but it transpired that he badly burst a blood vessel that day and is worth another chance here. foxinexile, calva decoy, Budgie 65 and 2 others
The Brigadier
Thursday 28th April NAP Punchestown 6.35 Gentleman De Mee 5/4 Bet365 Took the scalp of Alan King’s stable star Edwardstone at Aintree and looks a decent bet to take this grade one two mile novice chase. He’s officially 8lb and more ahead of his six rivals here and I can see him being very well punted. Trained by Willie Mullins and owned by JP McManus he will be ridden today by Mark Walsh. DAILY ACCA Lingfield 2.00 Covert Mission 6/4 William Hill Kevin Philippart De Foy and 7lb conditional jockey Benoit De La Sayette have formed a decent partnership over the past month and they appear to have an excellent chance of improving that with this consistent 4 year old. He can make all so don’t be surprised if De La Sayette goes out to force the pace today. He’ll be hard to beat. Lingfield 2.30 Court Of Session EVS Bet365 Made his handicap debut a winning one when a comfortable 2 1/2L victor at Chelmsford a fortnight ago under today’s pilot James Doyle. The handicapper has seen fit to raise him 6lb for that success but I feel he can keep ahead of the assessor and run up a small sequence for the father and son team of Simon and Ed Crisford. Lingfield 1.30 True Accolade 4/6 Bet365 Charlie Appleby has a massive weekend ahead of him when he looks to win the first classic the 2000 Guineas for the first time with Native Trail or Coroebus. He should the board today with his New Approach three year old gelding who carries a 7lb penalty for his Windsor victory earlier this month. His main danger appears to be the Gosden trained March Moon but he was very disappointing last time and has questions to answer now in first time DAILY TIPS Punchestown 5.25 Paisley Park EW 7/1 Bet365 1/5th 123 Klassical Dream took this race apart last year when winning by 9L although he has his quirks (he was reluctant to line up at Cheltenham last time) and makes the market for Emma Lavelle’s consistent stayer Paisley Park here. The selection finished 2 1/4L ahead of Klassical Dream in the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham last time out and looks excellent each way value today especially if the dead eight run. Chepstow 4.30 Let’s Fly Again 10/3 Bet365 Makes his handicap debut off of what may well turn out to be a very attractive mark of only 71. He kept good maiden/novice company in three starts as a juvenile including on his debut when only beaten just under 9L to 2000 Guineas favourite Native Trail at Sandown. He’s been gelded since we last saw him and up to a mile for the first time Clive Cox’s Kodiac three year old can be competitive. Chepstow 5.00 Sir Plato 11/2 William Hill A modest seven runner one mile handicap can go the way of Rod Millman’s track specialist Sir Plato. He’s won four of his eight starts here with course figures of 842111146 and actually won this very race last year from a 4lb higher mark. A recent run at Bath a fortnight ago should of blown the cobwebs away and have him spot on for this today with Hollie Doyle riding for the first time. Chelmsford 6.55 Greatgadian 4/1 Bet365 A tricky looking five runner 10F handicap can go the way of the Roger Varian trained top weight despite a 180 day absence. He was only just touched off on his re-appearance last season and kept decent handicap company throughout the season winning at Nottingham. He’s been gelded since last seen and I’m expecting a big run from this four year old son of Siyouni. Chelmsford 5.10 John Betjeman 5/1 EW Bet365 1/5th 123 A rare flat runner for Dorset jump trainer Mark Gillard, his 6 year old gelding was left clear by a faller at the second last when a comfortable 10L winner of a Ffos Las conditional jockeys handicap hurdle last month and reverts back to the flat now off of a mark which he can hopefully exploit some 54lb lower. As a rule I like to take off 40lb from a horses NH mark to equate to his flat mark so you can see that Gillards’s charge looks well in here if able to reproduce his jumps form in this weak all weather handicap. Chelmsford 6.20 Symphony Perfect 7/2 Bet365 Ryan Moore is at the Essex track for just three rides tonight including this Richard Hannon trained sprinter who holds decent claims of taking the first prize. She wasn’t disgraced when finishing 5th beaten 2L in the Fred Darling at Newbury on her re-appearance over 7F. She appeared to run out of stamina inside the final furlong that day and the drop back to 6F looks sure to suit. The joint top rated in the field and with a decent draw in 5 she looks sure to be thereabouts. kroni
