Copa America 2021 Semi-Final Predictions > Jul 6th & 7th

Brazil vs Peru

Apologies for the late preview. I've not been feeling very well these past 48 hours with suspected food poisoning so I'm just managing to stir now. It's Brazil versus Peru in the first Copa America 2021 Semi-Final in a 12am BST kick-off on Tuesday morning at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. Can the hosts reach a dream final or will the tournament surprise package make history by upsetting the odds?

Brazil have been the stand out performers at this edition of the Copa America and it's perhaps no shock with them not only boasting arguably the strongest squad but also playing their games on home territory. Tite will be hoping his side can take one big step closer to winning the trophy on home soil by winning this game. Their 1-0 win over Chile in the Quarter-Finals was perhaps more nerve-wracking than it should have been but they kept another clean sheet and showed how resolute their back-line can be when the pressure is on. It's now 11 wins from their last 12 games including 9 clean sheets during those dozen matches.

Peru continue to stun the continent with their performances in this tournament. Ricardo Gareca's men held their nerve to win their Quarter-Final with Paraguay 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes. The mental strength of Los Incas was proven in the way they bounced back after conceding that 90th minute equaliser to deny them a normal time win. The big news for the team that is a major blow is the absence of attacker Andre Carillo who will serve out a suspension after picking up another booking in that Quarter-Final fixtute.

If there is to be any optimism on Peru's behalf coming into this game then they won't want to look at the head-to-head record against Brazil. Peru have only won 2 of the last 23 meetings. Brazil have also won the last two encounters in the Copa America by an aggregate score of 8-1. I have a feeling we won't see that trend bucked here. I can see Brazil winning this one in a business-like manner.

Colombia

They have been winless for three matches. In last game, they draw with Uruguay in 90 minutes and then get the victory by penalty. They have not made any achievement since they won the champion of the Tournament in 2000/01 season.

Argentina

It is undoubted that Lionel Andres Messi is their key to success. He scores 76 goals for Argentina in his career life. He will break the record of the most scoring goals in Copa America as long as he scores one more goal. They are full of ambitions now.

Verdict:

Argentina are in form, which have not suffered any defeat this season even getting a four-match winning streak. Instead, Colombia are in poor state. There is no time for them to adjust themselves. Argentina will absolutely win in upcoming game.

Argentina vs Colombia

The second of the Copa America 2021 Semi-Final matches is scheduled to kick-off at 2am BST on Wednesday morning when Argentina play Colombia at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia. Host nation Brazil await the winners of this clash after their narrow 1-0 win over Peru in the other Semi-Final so a huge challenge lies ahead for whichever of these two countries progress.

Argentina have so far looked like the one team that could potentially prevent the host nation from winning this tournament on their own soil. Lionel Scaloni's men have now gone 18 matches without defeat including 4 wins in a row. It's also 3 clean sheets in those past 4 matches showing how key that defensive stability has become for La Albiceleste. Even though the score-line was very flattering for Argentina in the 3-0 win over Ecuador in the Quarter-Final, it was a performance that showed when things are tight that Scaloni's side are managing the games well. Starting well early on is also a key factor in this Argentine team with them leading at half-time in 7 of their last 8 matches.

Colombia will see this game as a golden opportunity to upset the odds. Somehow, Reinaldo Rueda's men have reached the last 4 of this competition even though they have won just 1 of their last 6 matches within 90 minutes and haven't managed a single win during regulation time in their last 4 games. The players will have been grateful to former Arsenal keeper David Ospina who was influential in their 4-2 win on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Uruguay in the Quarter-Finals. The big blow for Colombia is that Juan Cuadrado will miss this game through suspension.

If both teams were at full strength and in decent form then this might be a closer game than I think it will be. Argentina are looking dominant at the moment and I can't see anyone rivalling Brazil for the trophy other than this squad. Colombia are a contrast looking out of form and lacking the quality of key players such as Cuadrado and James Rodriguez. I think a tightly-contested Argentina win is incoming.
