Arsenal vs Villarreal

The hosts broke their winless run last weekend with a 2:0 victory away to Newcastle United. Still, that victory didn’t bring them closer to the continental qualification spots, as they are five points behind Liverpool, who has one game in hand. Pierre Aubameyang was the leading player in the last weekend’s match, booking an assist and scoring a goal. The Gunners will need another excellent display from their strikers, as they are 2:1 behind in this tie. Arsenal went 2:0 down after half an hour into the match in Villareal, but Nicolas Pepe’s goal in the last quarter of the game improved their chances of booking a place in the finals. However, Mikel Arteta’s side needs to be very disciplined in the back, which wasn’t the case recently since Arsenal managed to keep the clean sheet only three times on the previous 20 occasions.

Villarreal goes to London in a good mood after beating Getafe in the latest La League round. A narrow 1:0 victory launched the Yellow Submarine to 6th place, which can bring them another Europa League ticket next season. After two straight defeats in the Spanish top flight, the away side managed to tie two wins and raise the form before the decisive matches of the campaign. Unai Emery is eyeing another victory against his former club, and this head coach knows the recipe for winning this competition, as he already has three trophies with Sevilla. Gerard Moreno and the lads have been clinical in front of the oppositions’ net lately, as they managed to score in each of their last 20 fixtures. They will search for an away goal at Emirates Stadium as well, which can help them clinch a place in the finals.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Arsenal has been very inconsistent this season, and although Europa League is their best chance to play continental football next season, this match will be very tight. We doubt the Gunners can beat Villarreal and think that the visitors won’t lose in London.

Goals Market Prediction

The home side’s defense has been pretty leaky recently, and the hosts have trouble keeping their net intact. On the other hand, Villarreal would like to continue its scoring streak, and we think both sides are capable of finding the back of the net in this one.

Roma vs Manchester United

The major news in Rome is Jose Mourinho’s arrival on the Giallorossi’s bench. However, that will be effective from the start of the next campaign, and until then, things have not been going very well for the home side. Paulo Fonseca’s side continued its poor streak last weekend with a 2:0 defeat against Genoa. Roma failed to win six times in a row in all competitions, managing to remain undefeated only twice during that period. Although Edin Dzeko and the lads have been doing a decent job in front of the oppositions’ net, their defense has been very leaky lately. The home side managed to keep the clean sheet only once in the last 12 games, and they really need to improve defending to keep theoretical chances of going further. A very tough task is ahead of Roma after a 6:2 defeat in Manchester, especially as several first-team players will be sidelined due to injuries.

It was a scorching weekend in Manchester as well since the derby match against Liverpool was canceled due to fans’ protests. Consequently, Manchester United players had some extra days to prepare better for this clash after a very physical first leg. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is on a good track of finishing as runners-up in the Premier League, as they are four points ahead of Leicester City, having one game in hand. Bruno Fernandes and the lads have been clinical in front of the oppositions’ goal this season, being the second most efficient team in the English top flight. The Red Devils have been unbeatable on the road, and they hope to continue that streak. Manchester United has a huge advantage, but there is no room for complacency.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

The visitors have been in much better form lately, and they are favorites in the second-leg match as well. We believe Manchester United will meet the expectations and beat Roma for the fifth time in a row.

Goals Market Prediction

Both sides have been excellent in the front, while Roma has been involved in many high-scoring matches lately. We expect to see another efficient clash which should go over a 2.5 margin.

AS Roma

They are in poor state, which have been winless for seven matches even suffer a three-match losing streak. And they are under a lot of pressure because they lose to Man United at 2-6 in last round.

Manchester United

They are sitting in the second place in English Premier League. They are unlikely to win the title of that as the gap between them and the first is too big. It is undoubted that they will try their best in the League.

Verdict:

Manchester United take the upper hand over AS Roma in past head-to-head clashes with a record of 6W-1D-1L. What’s more, Manchester United are on a run now. So Manchester United have the tendency to win.

Prediction: 0-2, 1-2

Arsenal vs Villarreal

The second legs of the Europa League Semi-Finals are coming at us on Thursday night and the first of those games that I'm previewing is the 8pm BST kick-off between Premier League mid-table side Arsenal and Spanish La Liga European qualification contenders Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium. It's 2-1 to the Spaniards at the moment but one goal could change the entire balance of this tie.

Arsenal are one goal down heading into this second leg but they have home advantage. The Gunners didn't look anywhere near their best in the first leg out in Spain and some will feel they got out of jail with that away goal through Nicolas Pepe's converted penalty kick. The 2-0 win away to Newcastle on the weekend ensured that Mikel Arteta's side ended a 3-game winless run so have some confidence ahead of kick-off here. However, the first leg win was the first time Villarreal had beaten Arsenal in 5 attempts. The Londoners are still undefeated against The Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal may well hold a one goal advantage before this game starts but we all know how quickly these ties can change if the team currently behind has that all important away goal. Head coach Unai Emery has also pointed out he knows oh too well how effective Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is as a potent finisher. The Gabonese striker bagged a hat-trick for Emery's Arsenal team in the 2019 Europa League Semi-Final win over Valencia. Villarreal also picked up a clean sheet win on the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Getafe at home. It was 3 defeats from their previous 4 league games before that result so that will no doubt give them a boost they need for this clash.

If there's one thing Arsenal have been this season then it's inconsistent. You could argue the same for Villarreal on the domestic front but both sides are still here at this stage of the Europa League so it's clear they know how to get the job done on the European front. Can Arsenal turn this tie around? I actually think they could. They face a seasoned veteran in this competition in Emery and I'd be more confident if they had drawn the first leg but this is the exact type of game that this Arsenal side will be written off in and then somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Roma vs Manchester United

OK, so it's probably fair to say that this second game I'm previewing for the Europa League Semi-Final second legs is basically done and dusted. It's Italian Serie A side Roma taking on Premier League club Manchester United with the away side holding a 6-2 advantage after a dominant first leg display. Is there any hope for the home side in this encounter?

Roma have an uphill battle to climb in this tie and that's putting it lightly. Head coach Paulo Fonseca is not only facing elimination from this competition but the team from the capital city are in danger of failing to qualify for any European competition next season if they don't end the season in decent form. Jose Mourinho has already been confirmed as the club's gaffer for next season and you have to wonder what impact that will have on Fonseca's management. The 6-2 first leg defeat is only the fourth time the Italian club have conceded six goals or more in a major European competition. It's now 6 games without a win in all competitions. A shining light is that striker Edin Dzeko has now scored in 5 of his last 6 European appearances for Roma.

Manchester United will already be dreaming of a spot in the Europa League Final. This was the most recent trophy they won having battled to it in 2017 under ex-manager Mourinho. The Red Devils come into this game knowing they have beaten Roma in 5 of their last 6 meetings and having drawn the only other encounter. History is on their side as well. A team has won the first leg by 4 goals or more on 225 occasions in the Europa League/ UEFA Cup and that deficit has only been overturned on 2 occasions. The last of those coming in 1985/86 when Real Madrid played Borussia Monchengladbach. Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will also be hoping to end his Semi-Final hoodoo as United boss having been knocked out in all four of his previous Semi-Finals whilst managing the club.

It's hard to see how Roma will turn this around but I am also struggling to see how Manchester United won't get at least a draw here. Their away form in all competitions has been superb and Roma look like a team that have called quits on this season. They did show how dangerous they can be by taking the lead in the first leg but they also showed their mental fragility by falling to pieces. I think backing United to win on the night is worth a punt.
