Belgian GP

Back after the summer break with one of my favourite races, the Belgian GP at Spa.
One of the longest circuits on the calendar and in fact we only do 44 laps here. It can be a long way back to the pit lane if you have a problem here!

Lewis Hamilton started at the back of the grid last year after taking a million penalty points for changing engine parts but still managed a podium spot so at last we have a track where you can overtake. Hamilton is still favourite to win the title despite being 14pts behind Vettel. You would have to think he needs to start winning soon now we have reached the end of August.

Hamilton is 5/6 with Hills and Vettel is 5/4 with various firms including Skybet.

For Sundays race Hamilton is the clear favourite at 4/6, I find that quite short at this stage. The 4/1 about Vettel with Bet365 looks far more attractive. We will see what happens in practice but I don't think there will be much between them.

  • 9 front rows have won in the last 11 years so qualifying is going to be crucial on Saturday.
  • We have had 7 safety cars in that time, normally the weather is quite dodgy and to blame. (2/5 Safety Car Bet365)
  • Average number of retirement is 4 (Paddy Power bet 4/6 over 15.5 Finishers)

Belgian GP

Lewis Hamilton landed another pole position today, his 68th of his career and is now the long odds on fav for Sundays GP. His best price of 8/15 is with Stan James and like many other races the start is where the race could be won especially with main rival Sebastian Vettel also on the front row.

Its long old lap here in Spa so plenty of opportunity for Vettel to put Hamilton under pressure but you get the feeling that Mercedes are pretty quick around here and the Brit will get the job done. For the value hunters Vettel is 3/1 with 888Sport.

Elsewhere Bottas is a short 2/5 to grab the final podium spot and Raikkonen at 6/5 is not that appealing either so we will give that a miss. The top 6 ought to go to the three top teams but I do like the look of Force India here at Spa so it may just be worth a gamble on one of their drivers to spoil the party. Sergio Perez at 11/8 with Bet365 looks the way to go.

Fernando Alonso looks a banker to finish in the points and the 8/11 with Skybet is not a bad price especially with all of the grid penalties flying about for several drivers.

Selections

L.Hamilton 8/15 Stan James
S.Perez Top 6 11/8 Bet365
F.Alonso Points Finish 8/11 Skybet
Over 15.5 Finishers 4/6 Skybet

:ok
