Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July Mmm, thinking of backing both Toyotas to finish in the points. Started typing it out on SP but I've decided to leave it for now. They were on fire at Indy and look to have made some real improvements there and have looked solid in practice here. I know a lot of the Indy performance was down to tyres but I still feel the car has moved on a bit lately. The Bridgestone looks solid here, HOWEVER, it does look better over longer runs and that's what I'm counting on. They have at times gone for a heavy fuel load when they made the final session and hopefully they'll do so again especially against mostly Michelin teams who have a softer compound. Ideally, they'll line up 9th and 10th and I can get a similar price on a much less risky bet:hope (obviously jus outside the top 10 would suit me also). Alonso looks very strong, but pretty heavy odds on at this stage doesn't appeal. Ferrari look OK here but I think McLaren are a little off which brings me to.....

ReasoningFisichella is a confidence driver, we all know that, and he must be pretty high after dominating Alonso in Indy. I heard an interview where he said at the start of the season he was getting too much understeer but now he's a lot more comfortable and confident in the car. Renault and Michelin at home should be a very strong combination this weekend and that shows in the prices with Alonso around 1.7 for the win. That's a little short for me but this seems a much better price for Fisi to get on the podium. Ferrari have looked decent so far and Schumi should be close (especially with Bridgestone looking better on long runs) but I'm still a little unconvinced by Massas smoothness for circuits like this at the highest level - I've been very impressed with Massa this year but I don't think he can wrangle Renault performance from a slightly inferior package like Schumi can. Don't fancy McLaren this weekend, don't think there car will be well suited to this track and with everything going on off the track I can see them having a low key weekend. With Renault certainly looking like the best package, I see no reason for Fisi to be over even money in this market.

ReasoningBarri has really started to get on top in this team lately but now I feel it's time for Button to hit back. His smooth style is extremely well suited to the slick Magny Cours circuit and I think he drives this track really well. Barri had a crash in yesterdays practice and didn't get much running and this morning he was pretty slow and I think he's struggling to get it together this weekend. Button is always a slight favourite in this market but this weekend I think he should be quite a bit shorter than this for the qualifying match up.

ReasoningSame analysis as Fisi to get on the podium really. I don't think Renault have too much to fear on pace from Ferrari or McLaren this weekend and in this type of situation they should be looking to lock out the front row. Fisi is driving really well and I think he's very solid to get in the top 3 and even has a bit of a chance at going for pole. We've seen this year when McLaren don't think they have the pace to win they tend to go defensive and go for a heavy fuel load and I think that's the strategy they'll adopt today. We've also seen that strategy from Ferrari a few times so I think the Renaults could be relatively pretty light this afternoon and that makes Fisi a very compelling E/W bet.

Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July midnightblue I'm a little late but no:lol :lol. I would have said no anyway, the BMWs often do that in final practice before resuming there decent midfield slots for the competitive part of the weekend. That was a really weird Q1, Villeneuve and Button out, bad start to the weekend:wall

Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July Not as nailed on as last week, but i think evens for Massa to get a podium (bet365) is an good price :ok Bridgestone seem to have an advantage here and as long as Massa gets a decent start, i think he has a good chance of 2nd place never mind 3rd. Which is why i'm contemplating a dual forecast of Schumacher and Massa at 4.0 (bet365) the reason i'm hesitant about it is that the renaults tend to start well, so i can see the possibility of alonso going past massa at the start. decisions decisions :lol

That market looks like it should have looked before qualifying - perhaps they didn't suspend it (not sure if Mansion do that) and someone still has prices left up?:unsure :unsure I don't have the optimism you all do for Massa, but I'm not sure how to approach this race, I'll be back with my bets and try to salvage a profit later on tonight;)

It seems to me that the odds compilers ( and people laying on the exchanges) sometimes forget he's driving a ferrari. This afternoons qualification i was doing live betting on betfair (which i do a lot) and got 55.0 for Massa to get pole........... it didn't work out but he only missed by a couple of 10ths .................... far better value than betting on Alonso at less than 2/1. The price on him just seems to frequently be bigger than it should be. Especially when he is sitting on the front row of the grid.:unsure On the other hand if he is down the field i wouldn't trust him not to get caught up in something stupid and crashout in the first lap, need a new nose cone etc and wouldn't put money on him. I've put a small stakes on the dual forcast and medium stakes on Massa to get a podium :ok

It's just I don't think Bridgestone will have the edge during the race that they did in quali or in Indy. The problem is who will beat Massa to the podium? Assume Schumi and Alonso, but then there's the two Toyotas - if Bridgestone don't have the edge then expect them to struggle. It has to be Kimi or Fisi coming hard from behind:tongue2. However, there is likely to be a massive Trulli-train until the Toyotas pit and Massa could have quite the gap by then. Mmm, I like that idea, maybe I'm talking myself into Massa for the podium? Still haven't decided yet:lol :lol And yeah you can get some great prices in quali, especially when ITV is 5 seconds behind and watching the wrong car:lol :lol :lol

ReasoningI wasn't too sure about this earlier, but now I fancy it. If the Bridgestone is as strong as it was in quali, then Ferrari should be able to run away with this and Massa has a great chance of a podium. However, I'm not sure that will be the case. So what if Bridgestone is not dominant? The Ferraris won't dominate, and Alonso is right back in the picture and it should turn into a Schumi/Alonso battle. The problem is who will beat Massa to the podium? Assume Schumi and Alonso, but then there's the two Toyotas - if Bridgestone don't have the edge then expect them to struggle. It has to be Kimi or Fisi coming hard from behind. However, there is likely to be a massive Trulli-train until the Toyotas pit and Massa could have quite the gap by then. So both scenarios Massa has a very good chance of a podium, which makes even money look pretty good.

ReasoningThe Red Bulls look surprisingly strong here and I think DC can grab some points. In Q2 he was 10th but within a tenth of Rosberg, de la Rosa and Fisichella. He's driving really well at the moment and starting 9th he looks solid for some points. I also don't expect Bridgestone to have the same edge they had in quali, which will help him out.

ReasoningBMW did look good here, but they really got it wrong in quali and are at the wrong end of the grid. However, I still think they've got decent pace here and Villeneuve has been driving really well and can move up. Rosberg has taken an engine change and starts 19th. His pace has been pretty decent but the Williams hasn't been mega round here when the Brisgestone has been awesome. Still lots of reliability concerns for the Williams and Rosberg has been a little accident prone. Villeneuve starts 2 places ahead so I have to make him favourite for this and thus I have to take this price.

ReasoningTrulli has been driving really well lately and I fancy him to have a decent race. He's ahead of his team mate and unless he makes a por start I can't see that changing. They've got Fisi and Kimi pushing them from behind and that could create a bit of a gap between them. de la Rosa has done OK so far but the McLaren hasn't looked great and unless the Bridgestones are shocking in the race I think the Toyotas can keep him behind.

ReasoningI love hitting Skybet on this market, I really do. Was a touch lucky last time as it was down to a couple of hundredths of a second but the analysis was right. Schumi loves to slow down and cruise across the line and I certainly see a repeat here. No matter what you fancy for this race it has a good chance. If the Ferraris can run away then we're looking towards a formation finish and happy days. If Michelin comes back into it then Alonso will be right there and pushing the Ferraris. If that's the case and Alonsos is fighting for the lead I still see it having a great chance of it coming in under 8 seconds. Of course, other things can happen, but these are the most likely and what the analysis is based on.

ReasoningDamn what has happened here? Back at the start of this season this used to be about 1.6. Well, we've had a lot of safety cars this season, but fundermentally I see no extra reason for it - and hey, with Montoya not on the grid a big crash has to be less likely! The thing is, in the past 4 races we've had 3 with massive amounts of wall and limited run off areas, so it's obvious there's going to be more chance of a safety car. Now we're back at an open race track with proper run off areas and that simply isn't factored into this price. The run in to the first couple of corners can be a little dodgy as it very quick and they sometimes find it hard to funnel into Estoril, but there's a big run off area so hopefully we can avoid a big smash.

Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 2.34 (Back)
ReasoningI think this is being a bit harsh on Speed, who started the season pretty slowly but recently I think he'sgetting on the pace. He's starting two places ahead and so long as he keeps ahead at the start I can see him keeping Liuzzi behind. I'm still not convinced by Liuzzi, he didn't get much chance in the Red Bull last year (but that's because Klein was clearly better) and this year he's been a bit erratic and I think Speed is very close to him now. Given that they're in the same car I can't have Liuzzi as this much of a favourite, it has to be close to 50/50.

Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July :ok My formula 1 bets today . Margin of victory : Between 3 and 13 seconds . Expecting a close fight today and one wonders if alonso can get away from the ferraris and start out strongly . I feel not as schumi would definitely feel a little bit more relaxed with massa covering him preventing alonso to do some overtaking . Even if massa manages to be overtaken , i guess schumi would already sewn up the race by the time he does so . Like the look of between 3 and 13 secs here as i can't see this being a race of 1 or 2 seconds difference . but neither can i see it as a whitewash . As such , the bet on offer @ Bet365 @2.10 looks just about right . Medium stake for me for this one .

Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July Not much time due to crap connection so just my bets; Massa at 14/1 with expect is worth a shot EW as he looks sure to be in the places so a bet to nothing and could get lucky if MS has trouble. Coulthard is driving as well as i can remember for a while so 2.87 for a points finish with corals is a value bet surely. Good luck all

Re: F1 French Grand Prix 16th July There is a general feeling up and down the paddock that Ferrari have opted for the wrong tyres for race/duration purposes, this might just be sour grapes however! They may have had the pace for the one lap but can they hold out for the race? I think this race will be very interesting. With Trulli being 4th there will no doubt be another 'Truilli train' essentially isolating the top 3 to get on with it. Taking into account the fast-starting Renault (who was challenging Schumacher at the first corner of Indianapolis from a grid position of 5th) I think it will be straight fight between Schu and Alonso, with Alonso edging it on tyres. good luck guys!
