Flat Racing ~ Saturday May 30th (Inc. Scoop 6)

Recommended Posts

Saturday’s Scoop 6 Races This weeks Scoop6 is from York and Haydock with the first five legs on Channel 4 and the final leg on Racing UK. The Scoop6 was not won last week so the win fund starts at £135,495 and should reach the £200,000 mark by the start of play. Leg 1: 1.45 York We kick off with a very competitive 7f handicap at York. Trainer David O’Meara won this last year and is determined to do it again with 5 runners entered. Top weight Louis The Pious could be the pick of his quintet and will be straighter after his recent run. Both Dusky Queen and Alfred Hutchinson won here last time out and while in good form they have both been raised and need to step up to go in again. One Word More and Highland Colori also make the short list in a wide-open contest. Selection: Louis The Pious 16/1 Skybet (One Word More) Leg 2: 2.00 Haydock A Group 3 Fillies & Mares race and Roger Varian’s Talmada should take all the beating. She was a very good second to Secret Gesture in the Middleton Stakes last time out and has also won over course and distance so ticks plenty of boxes. Luca Cumani’s Kleo is second best on ratings and she was runner up in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket last time out and is going the right way. The Cheveley Park pair of Criteria and Queen Of Ice maybe best of the rest. Selection: Talmada 3/1 BetVictor (Kleo) Leg 3: 2.20 York A Listed contest over 1m6f and ten runners line up including Clever Cookie who dead-heated in this last year. He started this season by winning the Ormonde Stakes and carries a penalty here for his trouble but is turning out to be a very useful stayer. He won’t have his normal jockey Graham Lee today who has gone to Haydock instead and a chance is take with Ed Dunlop’s Red Galileo and Andrea Atzeni. It’s the first time he will be running over this trip but his second at Ascot last time was a promising effort and the 4yo could still be improving. Selection: Red Galileo 15/2 Coral (Clever Cookie) Leg 4: 2.35 Haydock The Timeform Jury Stakes, a Group 3 contest over 7f is next up. Cable Bay will appeal to punters after a terrific run last time out in the Lockinge when 5th to Night Of Thunder. My worry is that he is one from 13 and on a losing run of eleven. Breton Rock also ran well at Newbury to finish 7th and could be the one to side with this time. He won the Hungerford Stakes last season and was a close second here to Penitent twelve months ago and can gain compensation. That Is The Spirit is drawn well in stall one and will no doubt try to make all and is a solid each way bet. Selection: Breton Rock 4/1 Stan James (That Is The Spirit) Leg 5: 2.55 York Possibly the most difficult leg, a 20 runner 5f sprint and any amount of horses capable of winning it. Veteran’s Captain Dunne and Ancient Cross have been running well of late and Monsieur Joe is steadily slipping down to a decent mark and is not out of it either. Kevin Ryan always does well here at York and his Bogart could be the answer now back to the minimum trip. He’s a winner over course and distance and wasn’t beaten far last time. Willbeme ran well last time here and could sneak into a place at big odds from a middle draw. Selection: Bogart 10/1 Bet365 (Willbeme) Leg 6: 3.30 York The final leg is a 12f handicap and the lightly raced Comedy King will be a popular choice for the shrewd yard of Luca Cumani. The 4yo has only had five starts and will all the better for his seasonal reappearance at Doncaster where he was second on his first attempt at this trip. Both Richard Fahey and Brian Ellison have three runners each and the best of those could be Innocent Touch who was a good third here at the last York meeting. The Andrew Balding trained Spectator is also worth including in forecasts. Selection: Comedy King 7/2 Bet365 (Innocent Touch)
