Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 25th - 27th Nantes – Lille The situation is very simple for Nantes in that they only have one injury to worry about. That’s to striker Johan Audel who has yet to play for them since his summer transfer, so hardly much of a loss. The squad is virtually unchanged and the XI may well be the exact same which beat Ajaccio 1-0 last week. Lille will probably start an unchanged team too here. They still miss key defender Marko Basa to injury, along with creative midfield Marvin Martin. Striker, Ryan Mendes is their final casualty, but they have no new injuries or suspensions to worry about. Nantes are a major form team right now and have won their last 4 consecutive games. Michel De Zakarian has got them playing some remarkable football and they currently sit in a staggering 4th place! Surely their bubble will burst at some stage, but there have been few signs of it happening recently. Nantes have played some great football, facing some good sides too. Its not as if they have been lucky or anything either, all of their results have been merited. Despite all this, they are only slightly favoured by the bookies here, mostly because their opponents Lille are a vastly overrated team. Now, don’t get me wrong, LOSC aren’t a bad side by any means, but they are nowhere near as good as some people think they are. Lille have won 4 of their last 5 games and not conceded a single goal in any of those fixtures. But look at who they’ve faced during this period. Evian, Sochaux, Ajaccio, in addition to a pretty poor and depleted Lyon side. They did finally beat a decent team last week by claiming a 1-0 scalp of Montpellier away, but this was one of the most fortunate victories I have seen for a long time. Montpellier dominated them throughout and only some epic defending along with a goalkeeping clinic from Enyeama allowed them to prevail. I don’t personally think they’ll be able to avoid defeat tonight though,. Nantes are playing too well right now and in front of their own fans I’ll back them to prevail. The bookies have been very generous offering a DNB handicap line here. My only worry is that Lille’s luck will somehow continue. Honestly, it felt like extreme other forces were at work last week in Montpellier, it was extremely frustrating as an MHSC backer. Things are going LOSC’s way right now, but I will go against them once again. Prediction: Nantes 1-0 Lille Recommended bet: Nantes 0AH @ 1.95 4/10

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 25th - 27th Marseille – Reims The only two injuries that OM have are in defence. Lucas Mendes is out which means Souley Diawara will once again line up at CB. He’s a downgrade though IMO and his ageing body means he’s in a natural regression period now. More of a concern though is the absence of stud right back Rod Fanni because of a thigh injury. It had been hoped he’d be fit enough to contend for a place here, but unfortunately Fanni is deemed too tight and he’ll have to sit in the stands and watch. Who can now fill the big hole that Fanni leaves? Well, probably Kassim Abdallah is the man who’ll start but he’s an inconsistent and unreliable player. I think Baup will line up with the strongest team possible, but considering they just played a CL match 4 days before, he might opt for some rotation in midfield and attack. Reims meanwhile, have no new injuries to deal with but do have important midfielder Antoine Deveaux suspended. Pacey right winger Odair Fortes is also still banned, but overall the squad is in reasonably good condition. This is a fairly awkward match to forecast because it all depends which OM exactly turns up. I think it’s fair to say that the hosts are in a slump following successive ligue defeats, coupled with their CL nightmares. They are now seemingly out of Europe after losing at home to Napoli on Tuesday night. Remarkably, this was already OMs 4th home defeat of the season! Even more remarkably they’ve lost all four by the exact same 1-2 scoreline. Some will point to the Stade Velodrome redevelopment as a potential reason for their home woes, and of course it won’t help matters that roughly a third of the stadium is under construction. But I think you just have to look at it another way. PSG, Monaco, Arsenal and Napoli all have one thing in common – they are quality sides who possess world class players. In many ways, there is no disgrace losing to those teams at home, although OM will of course be disappointed that this has occurred. This should be a more manageable fixture for them, and in a must win situation I’d have to think OM will find a way to pick up the 3 points. Reims haven’t lost many matches this season, but in many ways I think their record is fake. Well, at least I think their away record is fake anyway. Already this season they’ve lucked out a few times on the road. Their 1-0 win at Lyon was daylight robbery, whilst the 0-0 at Bordeaux was extremely fortunate. Even prior to the international break I have no idea how Valenciennes failed to beat them in a match that eventually ended 1-1. Reims will always be strong at home, but they are usually known for being pretty poor away. OM should win this game but do I really want to back them on a -1 line just 4 days after an energy sapping CL match which they lost? OM are in a pretty tough spot here and will be thankful just to get back to winning ways in whatever way possible. This maybe reeks of one of their ugly 1-0 successes and I have a feeling they’ll only win by a small margin. This is a no bet situation for me in terms of match outcome. But for those who fancy a speculative punt, Prince Oniangue is 40/1 FGS and 18/1 anytime score with Bet365. He has scored in both of Reims’ last 2 games and no stranger to finding the back of the net considering he scored 10 times for Tours last season. Prediction: Marseille 2-1 Reims Recommended bet: Prince Oniangue anytime scorer @ 18/1 @Bet365

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > October 25th - 27th Bastia – Nice The Bastia squad is in good condition, although defensive midfielder Yannick Cahuzac is injured. He’s mostly been an ever present in the side this season so will be missed. The defensive duo of Squillaci and Diakite both return from respective suspensions which is a boost. Nice do have a couple of new injuries, albeit not to players who’d have necessarily started. Right back Romain Genevois is ruled which means Gregoire Puel will continue in that position, he’s an inconsistent player who can blow hot or cold. Backup keeper Hassan is another casualty. This isn’t really an issue but their 3rd choice custodian Veronese is suspended so Nice will now have a 4th string man on the bench! Of course, Nice still miss their key left winger Eric Bautheac and he’s the most notable absentee for them here. This is going to be a really feisty and intense match. There is a big rivalry between the two teams and a fair amount of hate too. Bastia are a very strong home team and have won 3 out of 4 at the Furiani so far this season. It isn’t usually a good idea to back against them at this stadium where they have to be given a lot of respect. Bastia have only won 1 of their last 6 games, but 4 of those fixtures have been on the road where they are a different animal. Nice have had some travelling issues themselves of late, losing at both Nantes and Toulouse. But they are one of the better teams in Ligue 1 and have a good squad coached by an excellent manager. He will have prepared a decent tactical gameplan here and it’s not beyond them to pick up something. I think the bookies have their lines very correct for this fixture and this is a no bet situation. I sense a draw anyway, not much will separate these two sides. Prediction: Bastia 1-1 Nice Recommended bet: None Guingamp – Ajaccio The main issue for Guingamp ahead of this match is at right back position. Primary starter JM Pereira is still injured, and now his backup Sankoh is ruled out too. I’m not too sure who’ll now fill in there, maybe Jeremy Sorbon but then that’d leave a hole in the middle of defence where he’s been pretty effective this season. Good news for Guingamp is that they welcome back the suspended midfield duo of Mathis and Sankhare. Key striker Mustapha Yatabare is also back after missing last week’s game with a minor injury. Ajaccio meanwhile, continue to have loads of injury problems. In defence, Claude Dielna is ruled out, along with influential midfielder Johan Cavalli. In attack, Mutu and Arrache are the latest casualties, they hardly have any attacking players fit! Dennis Oliech does at least return, but quite what sort of condition he’ll be in remains to be seen, the Kenyan hasn’t featured since August so will likely lack match fitness. Ajaccio are a real mess right now and are possibly the worse side in Ligue 1. They are managed by a complete numpty in Fabrizio Ravanelli, who is far too eccentric and wild for my liking. I’ve said before, with him at the helm Ajaccio will get relegated and I’d be surprised if he lasts until Christmas at this rate. In Ravanelli‘s defence, Ajaccio have suffered a lot of bad luck injury wise. With so many attackers out, I really have no idea who is actually going to score goals for them? Guingamp really should win this match easily. The newly promoted side have been flying this season and look like a well oiled unit playing with a lot of confidence. It’s hard to look beyond a home win in this contest, but I’m not sure I can back them @ such a short price. There is just no value here and all the public have been been getting on the Guingamp bandwagon. How will they cope with being such short favourites? They have usually performed better as underdogs when expectations haven’t been as high. I’m going to swerve the contest but I don’t want to put anyone off backing Guingamp, because in theory they should get 3 points. Prediction: Guingamp 1-0 Ajaccio Recommended bet: None Lorient – Sochaux One again, Lorient have plenty of injury concerns. The good news is at least their defense isn’t affected anymore. Christian Gourcuff has no selection problems at the back, but his options are more limited in midfield. This is the main problem area for Lorient where they have 5 injuries and a suspension to deal with. Things have improved in attack though recently and Giles Sunu returns to the squad following injury here. He’ll only be benched though because Lorient do have options upfront and aren’t lacking numbers in this area of the field. The good news for Sochaux is that they welcome back the important defensive duo of Cedric Kante and Sebastien Corchia. On the flip side, Carlao is injured and ruled out. Its the same in attack where Roy COntout comes back from suspension, but Mayuka is injured. Fellow attacker Thomas Guerbert isn’t included in the squad due to the impending birth of his child. This is a battle between 18th and 19th in the table and both teams have desperately struggled so far this season. Lorient in all fairness have only played 4 home games and lost just one of them (against Marseille), so they can’t be judged too much on their form here at Le Stade Moustoir. They usually play much better on their own artificial surface and can’t be underestimated here. But something is wrong with Lorient at the moment and I do wonder if Christian Gourcuff is losing his grip on the team a bit, maybe its time he left for pastures new after so many years at the helm? Sochaux have of course changed their manager recently and Herve Renard got off to an impressive start last week, Sochaux looked down and out against high flying Monaco but amazingly came back from 2 goals down to draw! For me, this match screams of goals. Both defences are two of the worst in the ligue and both sides also like to attack. Over 2.5 has to be backed in this one, whilst I’ll also have a very small bet on Sochaux outright. I couldn’t trust them enough to wager a bigger handicap bet, but considering Lorient’s recent woes, they may well be worth a unit. Prediction: Lorient 2-3 Sochaux Recommended bets: Over 2.5 goals @ 2.10 5/10 & Sochaux straight win @ 5.25 1/10 Toulouse – Rennes The situation is very simple for TFC, they have named an unchanged team for this match and they have a squad in great condition. Only the long term injury to Roman is on their casualty list but he;s yet to even play a single minute this season. Rennes meanwhile, have one or two injuries but nothing major. Midfielder Vincent Pajot is ruled out for this match but they welcome back key lynchpin Jean Makoun. Striker, Nelson Oliveira is also back following suspension which is a boost for them. I have to say Toulouse have mega impressed me recently. They picked up great wins against Nice and Reims and also performed fairly admirably away at PSG despite losing. The 3-5-2 system that Alain Casanova employs is really working well at the moment and teams are struggling to counteract it. TFC have a great flow and confidence about their football right now and this is a dangerous time to take them on. Perhaps Rennes might be able to match up to them though because they have a good tactical manager themselves. Philippe Montanier has to be respected and you don’t finish 4th in Spain with a team like Real Sociedad without having great tactical a or technical knowledge. Rennes haven’t looked particularly good of late though and have only won 1 of their last 7 matches. They’ve struggled and will curse their luck at having to play away against Toulouse at this moment in time. I have to favour the hosts based on recent form, but I can’t be backing them as an odds on shot. Realistically, on paper there isn’t actually much difference between these two teams so Toulouse shouldn’t be so short. I wouldn’t want to put off anyone who wants to back them though because I have to admit their football recently has been very impressive. Prediction: Toulouse 1-0 Rennes Recommended bet: None Valenciennes – Evian The hosts still have right back Kenny Lala injured. CB Lindsay Rose also joins him on the sidelines after he injured himself in last week’s match at Rennes. In midfield, Enza Yamissi is still suspended but David Ducourtioux returns from his ban. Quite an important loss for VA might be to playmaker Maor Melikson who has looked like one of their better individuals this season, his creativeness will be missed. Key striker Gregory Pujol does return though, which is a major boost. The big news for Evian is the loss of key striker Kevin Berigaud to injury for up to 6 weeks. Berigaud has been in great form this season, although his bubble had slightly burst of late. On the positive side, they welcome back 4 players from suspension, and also striker Marco Reuben returns from injury. At the back, key man Brice Dja Djedje remains on the treatment table. Valenciennes are in must win territory here and failure to pick up anything less than 3 points would start to set them adrift at the bottom of the table. New coach Ariel Jacobs didn’t get off to a bad start last week as they came from 0-2 down to draw against Rennes. Perhaps he’ll instill some extra fight and passion into this team. But they shouldn’t be an odds on shot to win today, their odds are so poor. Evian aren’t a particularly good side, but this match means just as much them. Make no mistake about it, this fixture is an absolute ‘6 pointer’ and the result of it could be vital. Ultimately, I think VA will get the 3 points but my preferred bet is over 2.5 goals. These two teams have a couple of really poor defences and regularly concede numerous goals. The price is quite generous too, I really see this being a potentially open contest it’s just the natural way that both play. Prediction: Valenciennes 2-1 Evian Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 2.22 4/10

Lorient - Sochaux deserved to go over anyway, but Sochaux played awful and weren't a patch on the one which performed so well against Monaco last week. How the Valenciennes match only contained 1 goal I'm not sure. It seemed like neither team could score in a brothel, there were loads of chances and opportunities in the final third of the field but no end product. Finally, Toulouse 0-5 Rennes. Thank fuck I swerved this game, an utterly outrageous result!

Neither of those are important players, so won’t be missed much. A least 5 players in the predicted starting lineup were rested midweek and didn’t feature in the Europa League against APOEL, so fatigue and tiredness shouldn’t be an issue for Bordeaux. Montpellier have one new injury to contend with, and that’s to midfielder Joris Marveaux. He’s been in reasonably good form so far this year so his influence might be missed. Left back Siaka Tiene is now free from suspension but injured, whilst left winger Anthony Mounier remains on the sidelines too. On a positive note, striker Montano and attacker Sanson return from suspension. This should be a very close, tight game and I don’t think much will separate the two. Usually, I like to side with home teams in these early kicks offs, but Bordeaux can never be relied upon after they’ve played in Europe, even though they did rest half of their main starting XI in midweek. Besides, Montpellier don’t exactly have to travel that far to get here and have had a full week to prepare for this contest. The visitors have been more open than expected under Jean Fernandez this season but this is probably the sort of fixture in which he’ll happily employ negative tactics. If you need some help dozing off for your afternoon nap today, then watch this game because it’s going to be very boring. This is a strong contender to finish 0-0, don’t expect too much attacking football to be on display. Only Reims have had more draws than either of these two sides so I could see it ending all square. I’m not interested in betting on this contest, it looks like the bookies have their lines set correctly. Prediction: Bordeaux 0-0 Montpellier Recommended bet: None Monaco – Lyon Claudio Ranieri will be delighted that he has a fully fit squad of players to choose from. Monaco welcome back LB Kurzawa and striker Riviere here, although both may well be benched. Lyon don’t have such luxuries though and their squad has had injury and suspension problems all season. Things aren’t as bad here but they still have at least half a dozen players out, all of whom could be considered first choice starters. At least they welcome back left back Henri Bedimo for this contest, whilst Maxime Gonalons is going to have to play in central defence as cover. About 7 of the predicted line up here also played in the midweek EL game against Rijeka on Thursday night, so some guys could be affected physically. In days gone by, this would be considered a ‘marquee’ game in Ligue 1, but now Lyon are such a fallen force I think it can only be classed as a ‘normal’ fixture. OL’s demise this year has been alarming. Ok, injuries haven’t helped their cause but if they hadn’t won their first 2 fixtures of the season way back in early August, Remi Garde’s men would actually be in the relegation zone right now! Lyon just aren’t a good side these days, especially when their squad is so ravaged. Monaco really shouldn’t have too many problems claiming an easy win today, the gulf in class is too much. There are many factors in Monaco’s favour and I’m sure they’ll make the most of a full week of rest planning for this fixture. I think the hosts will be out to prove a point after their surprise draw at Sochaux last week and they should be pretty motivated to perform well. I’ve got no hesitation taking them on a -1 asian line, this could end up as a blowout win if Monaco are close to their best. They welcome back key players for this contest too. In defence, Bayal Sall makes the squad, although might not start. Meanwhile in attack, Mevlut Erding is back following a two game lay off. Winger Romain Hamouma missed last week’s match against Lorient because of suspension, he’s another returnee. PSG still have stud central defender Thiago Silva out injured. Javier Pastore remains on the sidelines too. Right back Christophe Jallet is their final absentee, but this might not be a bad thing because he’s only an average player who often takes criticism for poor performances. This is going to be a really tasty encounter between a couple of good teams. PSG have really hit their stride recently. October has been a great month for them and they have a 100% record of winning in all competitions. Victories against OM, Toulouse & Benfica, to name but a few have really demonstrated their prowess and suddenly everything seems all nice and rosy in the garden of Laurent Blanc. They head into this contest on the back of hammering Anderlecht 5-0 away from home in the CL so should be full of confidence. That fixture will have no affect on them whatsoever in a physical or mental way because they barely broke sweat in Belgium. PSG might not have things their own way here though because St Etienne aren’t a bad team. They had a recent slump period but there were various reasons for that, one of them was a number of injuries and suspensions. They are at full strength tonight though so have no excuses in that department anymore. Sainte were PSG’s ‘bête noire’ last season and Les Verts got the better of them in all 3 fixtures. They won at the Parc de Princes, knocked them out of the Coupe de la Ligue, and then came from 0-2 down at home against them to eventually draw 2-2. Christophe Galtier’s men can take some confidence from how they fared against Les Parisiens last season and could have a mental edge heading into the fixture. I think PSG are due a flat performance again soon and it might come tonight. I’m not sure if Sainte can win, but it wouldnt surprise me if they avoided defeat. I’m going to have a few units on them +0.5 and back Les Verts to frustrate PSG once again. I’m also going to have a nibble of the booking point overs. The referee in charge of this match is Ruddy Buquet, a renowned serial cardist who enjoys brandishing the yellow whenever possible. He has given a whopping 26 bookings in just 5 games this season and only once has he shown less than 5 in a match. That occasion was when Lyon v Reims was played in monsoon like conditions on a very wet surface, so he probably gave the players some extra leeway. In a fixture like this where all sorts of shenanigans will be going on, I’d be surprised if he showed less than 5 yellows. but dont u think PSG will be wiser and more up to it this time round. They are in form and even though you are tipping it, I rarely bet against in-form teams to avoid being on the end of a losing streak while they remain in form. I would rather have a team lose one match and then start betting against them. But more to the point, I think bookies have this market spot on. If it was any other team, I am sure PSG would be around the 1.5 mark. So there is no value in that respect. Ibra and cavani are in form and last year it was only ibra they had to deal with. This year when they go for ibra, spaces are gonna open up for cavani. Obv u r the expert on French leagues, but just helping everyone to make some money or avoid losing some. Personally, think if they can beat OMarseilles away with 10men, they can beat etienne away with 11 and so its a not bet for me. But GL

Every game I have watched of theirs, they just are not in the races at first half. Then they start trying hard in the second half. in any case, well done to those who were on.
