Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 My two outright fancies are France at 10/1 (Various) and Greece at 33/1 (Paddy Power) France are taking a very stong squad over to Turkey for this, they boast over 250 first team appearances across Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga last season - tournement favourites Spain have 118. Their form in the Toulon Tournement can be ignored as it was a completely different squad that was competing. I'd even be tempted to back France to win the group at 9/4 (Betway) ahead of Spain, Ghana and USA. Greece are taking a squad that boasts over 280 appearances in the Greek Premier League last season, and although their league isn't a strong as the major European leagues, it's a hell of a lot stronger than the African and Ocenia leagues. Greece also had a succesful qualifying campaign, eventually finishing runners up to Spain, who where the only side to beat the Greeks, albeit twice - once in the group stages and and again in the final. Uzbekistan may be one to put in your weekend accas at 5/6 (Paddy Power) against New Zealand on Sunday, they have some pretty solid recent form, losing narrowly to Spain, drawing to Chile and drawing and beating Portugal in their last few games. I'd advise people to avoid backing England and Portugal in the outrights, both sides are taking squads mainly based in second tier leagues and are priced on name rather than actual quality of the side. Portugal may well qualify from their group but it's difficult to see them winning the tournement. It would be no surprise to me to see England follow in the footsteps of the u21 side and crash out in the group stages as they face a tough group containing Chile and the unbeaten champions of the respective continents in Egypt and Iraq.

Don't think that's right according to the wiki page. Of England's squad of 21, 15 are from the Premier League, 4 are from the Championship, 1 from League One and 1 from Portugal. The Portuguese squad of 21 has 15 from the Portuguese Primeira Liga. As for the other 6, 3 are from Belenenses who won the Portuguese Liga de Honra last year for promotion to the top flight, 2 are from Barcelona and 1 is from the Italian lower leagues ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_FIFA_U-20_World_Cup_squads

RE England: 6 of the 15 Premier league players are plying their trade for their respective u21 teams (Johnstone, Cole, Long, Thorpe, Lundstram, Pritchard) and the rest have minimal PL experience (Ward-Prowse 15, Bigirimana 13 (+10 Europa), Potts 2, Flanagan 1, Kane 4, Barkley 7, Coady 1) RE Portugal: 9 of the 15 top league players played their trade for the B or u21 teams (Varela, Cancaelo, Ferriera, Pinto, Mario, Sa, Dabo, Toze, Paciencia), 3 from 2nd tier (Alves 7, Silva 31, Veloso 0), 2 from Barcelona B (Ca 4, Ie 7), only Ilori 11, Ricardo 27, Esagio 3, Bruma 13, Gomes 7 (+5 Europa) and Kiko 6 had top level experience I took my squads from Wiki and ran each player through transfer market database

Thanks. I don't know enough about the individual players or the way the clubs operate their squads, but I suppose you mean although the majority are with top-level clubs in their country, they are relatively little experience in their clubs' first teams. Wouldn't that be the case for the majority of the countries in this tournament though? No top-flight club in the world is going to want to rely on players aged under 20, surely?

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 You'd be correct yes, which is why I have highlighted the French and the Greeks as my outright bets, as they have the most experienced squads in terms of first team appearances at a decent level ie French Ligue 1 and Greek Premier League.

Personally, I'll be keeping an eye on the South American sides. I'm pretty sure they always take this sort of tournament seriously, and I think they might be slightly undervalued here. I remember being impressed by Chile and Colombia in the South America Under 20s earlier this year.

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 I know the under 21s were terrible but am pretty shocked to see the u20s as high as 1.66 coral against Iraq u20s. Some very good players in the english squad and their level is way above that of Iraq. Added to this the iraq team both seniors and youth have really struggled over the last few years due to the war and have had players killed and terminally wounded. Iraq has also lost hundreds of thousands of children either maimed by depleted uraniam or starved by sanctions over the last 10 years so this is bound to have a huge effect on the standard of their team. If english think they have problems with their international side it is nothing compared to Iraq.

Tread carefully with Iraq, they went unbeaten in qualifying and recently drew with Uruguay. I'm not suggesting that they'll upset England but they may not be as bad a side as you think.

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 21/06/2013 18:00 WORLD CUP, U20 France (U20) vs Ghana (U20) France is a clear favorite in this encounter, apparently in composition and "training" they outperform their rival Ghana. Get at least the leaders of the French national team - Pogba from Juventus, Kondogbia of Seville, Umtiti of Lyon and Sanogo from Auxerre. These guys have become one of the leaders in their clubs, of course, and the national French team they will play the leading roles. The other players of the French team are coming mostly from second French division clubs, where they also play an important role. But in any case, the whole team is well-balanced. As for the national team of Ghana, something about this team a lot of information there is not. It is known that the team has only 3 legionnaire, playing in Europe: Boakye of the Italian Sassuolo, Mensah for an Israeli club and Youssef Baba of german side Fürth. As you can see all the clubs third rate, which in general is not surprising, because in this age of African players are especially in demand. Their game is based on the power manner, tactical training, so technically they do not have too much. Ghana can now try to resist the French - it's physics, but here we believe ghananians big benefits will not achieve, because the French team also largely completed by strong black guys, for ex Geoffrey Kondogbia 188 cm and weighing 77 kg will handicap any strong man in Ghana. In general, we're inclined to winning 3 points to the French, they are obvious favorite. Tip: France @ 1.70 Bet365

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 Have followed Evertonboy on France (also tipped by the RP yesterday) and Greece for an outright interest. Have backed South Korea to score >3.5 goals against Cuba at 5/1 with Sportingbet, mainly because the spreads would suggest this should be no more than 9/2. Have bought bookings for 3 points at 40 in France v Ghana, with Spreadex who are the only firm to price the market. Colombian ref Wilmar Roldan is in charge and I'd be interested in buying bookings at that price in pretty much any game he officiated. Nothing about a game between these two Nations at this level to put me off, though I'm only playing to about 75% of my usual stakes.

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 Portugal v Nigeria Portugal have a very solid record in this competition and with two wins and two other top 3 placings are the most decorated team on show, in the absence of Brazil and Argentina. They arrive with one of the older squads, with 9 players aged 20 and almost all are with big name clubs, 13 are either at the top three Portuguese sides or with Barcelona and they have been together for a long time, with the core of the squad (9 players) having played at the European U19 Championships last year. Nigeria will doubtless have a few hidden gems amongst their group, but with such a young squad having gone to the Confederations Cup, it makes you wonder what was left for this and five of their players are aged 17 or younger, which makes them short of experience at this level and all but three (with lower level european sides), play domestic football. They did not win a game at the recent Toulon tounament (losing 2-1 to Portugal... who eased off and replaced three players after going two up) and were described by supporters as their worst ever U20 team. They were comprehensively outplayed by Egypt at the African Championships, where they also lost to Mali and look the weakest of the African teams. Portugal -0.25 ball @ 1.87

2 goals too few and 2 cards short of break even! Not the best of starts but could have been worse on the cards front.

Astonished to see Greece as big as 6/1 to beat Mexico at bet365' date=' I'll have some of that for the same reasons I've backed them for the outright above. For the more cautious among us Coral go 4/1 DNB.[/quote'] Thanks. I'll chance a buy of Greece's goalrush at 10 with Spreadex. Bet breaks even if they score just once and shows a profit for 2 or more. Been liking this bet recently where teams are priced around 10 and I fancy their chances of scoring.

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 Risking one of my own picks, I'm not sure the likely gulf between Turkey and El Salvador is going to be as vast as the markets imply. I expect they'll lose but I think there's a better chance of them scoring than some prices suggest. Have had a very small sell of their 1st goal time at 67 and buy of their total goal minutes at 37, both with Spreadex. I can't claim any great insight or knowledge regarding the game at this level, just experience of these markets where one team is priced as such a big underdog.

Watched the second half and Mexico should really have won, missed quite a few good chances and the headed miss from two yards was as bad as I've seen! Greece stuck in there though and it was a great finish to win it.

The header from the Mexican was a shocker tho, I think you're being generous saying it was two yards out, I thought more like 1!! Also sitting on nice 40/1 voucher for the Greeks outright and France at 12/1, puts me in a nice position after the first round of matches. On another note, Colombia won't be winning this tournement on today's evidence.

Mexico played the more attractive football with more flair but Greece were strong in defence and effective in attack at times - they reminded me of the Greece that won the European Championships in Portugal in 2004. Excellent call EB :ok I somehow can't see Greece winning the trophy, but you never know and 33/1 looks good value after this. From the other teams I've seen, I was very impressed with Spain and France yesterday. Portugal looked pretty good too.

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 Maybe this might be naive, but a double on both France and Spain to overcome their oppositions is available at 1.83 Paddypower. Both teams impressed in their first games and I think this might be the best route to go down in order to make some money today. Any thoughts on why neither France or Spain may not win, will be greatly appreciated. :)

Re: Fifa Under 20 World Cup Turkey 2013 Portugal - Korea I'm a portuguese, so one might suspect of me, but I rate Portugal as a big outsider, and can see them get to semi-finals at least, where they might go out against a much more mature team and with a tighter defensive line. But for now, they must be considered as definite backers. Their game against Nigeria wasn't that great, team looked quite awful in the back, and our best defender Tiago Ilori strangely started on the bench. However, our attack was doing massive damage, Bruma especially. The guy is going to be a star, you can just feel it. We also have other players who can help in destroying a defence, with creative midfielders Andre Gomes and Joao Mario, and still Toze and tempo-man Ca on the bench. Aladje is awful with his feet, but strong target man and good heading ability. For now, I think that our strong attack will overcome our weak defence. South Korea and Cuba look like easy targets, and getting to first place is crucial to avoid Spain - killing in the 1/8 or 1/4. My best bet for this game is Portugal @ 1.80 (bet365)

Here is an indication of the credentials of some of the players. Goal Keeper Areola, PSG player and a great prospect fo the future midfield Pogba doesn't need any presentation Defenders Umtiti- scored a spectacular goal for Lyon at White Hart Lane in the EL. Digne- First choice at Lille, pursued by PSG. Zouma- Linked with Chelsea. Forward Sanogo- Will ply his trade at Arsenal next season. Moreover many of these players know each other very well on and off the pitch for having played together for the under 17 and we'll no doubt see brilliant individuals but a tight and performing unit as well. USA- U.S teams consist of players of the MLS or South American clubs and undoubtedly cannot be taken lightly as Americans have proven that they can develop talented players, but until some of them come to Europe and further develop their skills they won't be able to compete on a level field against teams like France.
