Debut RPR 68. 3runs with 1 win. El Najmm - RPR 76 on debut. Latest RPR 84. 2nd on latest run and one to consider good improvement from debut run. The following have put up respectable debut performances and will need to show improvement on next run to be elevated to the top table of potential greatness. Munjaz - RPR 78 On debut Touch The Sky - RPR 75 on debut Sweeping Up - RPR 72 On Debut Tall Ship - RPR 70 on debut. All other runners have been dismissed as not good enough and although may win races this thread needs to concentrate on finding potential successors to Daddy's greatness and will not monitor progress in great deal unless put in a exceptional performance. Have Removed Kaminari at the moment who may be better at 3yo but unlikely to achieve anything this year.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness My Titania was impressive on Sunday, wasn't she? Maybe it was visually not the strongest performance but she gives the indication that she has allot from daddy. she does only as much as needed to win and i think she is way better than what she showed yesterday. She travelled like a dream and quickened nicely. I have no doubt that she gets a mile. It's fine on pedigree and she is so laid back and relaxed. Btw. there was an impressive maiden winner for Sea The Stars in Germany last weekend. Sea The Moon was the first STS runner over there and won pretty well:

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Thanks for that, missed that result in Germany! Great video find. Sea the Moon looked good on what looked wet soggy ground winning comfortably. What I thought looked impressive was the way he kept going strongly all the way to line and looked really strong in the finish and if challenged could probably have found more.

Updated Horses To Follow.....
Sweeping Up runs Wednesday at Nottingham in a fillies maiden over 1m and a bit. Watching brief only recommended. Trainer Hughie Morrison has yet to have a 2yo winner this year and a very mediocre record here at Nottingham with 2yo's. Although Sweeping Up put up a respectable debut run to finish 2nd (RPR 72), little form of worth from that race to go on and lots of newcomers from the big trainers/owners line up. Would need to put in a big improvement from debut run to win. If she does would be of interest going forward.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Sweeping Up finished 3rd at Nottingham but was nearly 6 lengths behind the front 2. RPR and TS figures suggest a similar level of performance from debut. Was hoping for improvement but now going to remove from Updated Horses to follow list. Looking for the best Sea The Stars fillys and colts and Sweeping Up does not make the grade. Updated Horses To Follow..... My Titania - Best RPR 105. Latest RPR 105. Debut RPR 82. 3 runs with 2 wins. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Sea Here (DOB 02/04/11) Chestnut Colt Dam - Look Here (Sire - Hernando, Dam - Last Look) Trainer - Ralph Beckett Dam Look Here won the Oaks on third run for trainer Ralph Beckett in 2008. She was 2nd twice in staked races in a listed as 3yo at Lingfield and a Group 3 at Newbury. She was also 3rd in 3 group 1 races (2 very narrow losses under one length). A top class filly earning nearly £350k and an overall record of 2 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds from 9 races. Won debut race as a 2yo which was only race below listed level. Sea Here is the first foal of dam Look Here. Sea Here makes his debut at Newmarket on Saturday in a maiden race over 1m. Could be worth an interest but will just watch race to assess level of performance but I am expecting a good run and to be one to follow. Would back if an each-way price but likely to be to short in the betting. Holds a Derby entry for next year.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Seagull Star (DOB 16/04/11) Bay Colt Dam - Dash To The Top (Sire - Montjeu, Dam - Millennium Dash ) Trainer - William Haggis Sold for 190,000 Guineas at the yearling sales in 2012. Dam Dash To The Top raced 8 times with 2 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 8 races. Was 2nd on debut as a 2yo and then won maiden on 2nd start before heading for a Group 1 at Ascot when 3rd just under 2 lengths behind the winner also as a 2yo. Best performance as a 3yo was 2nd in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks when half a length 2nd. Won a listed race as a 3yo and raced over distances from 1m to 1m 5f. Not quite top class but was a very nice filly. Seagull Star is the 3rd foal of Dash To The Top. The first 2, Dynasty and Deep South recorded 1 win each from a total of 11 runs between them but neither looked particular special and had short careers. Seagull Star makes his debut in the same race as Sea Here and also holds a Derby entry. Watching brief again on this one but as always my hopes are high pre-race! Market should guide to the chances of this colt.

Sea Here a non runner due to the ground so we will have to wait for his debut........ But Seagull Star put up a really impressive debut to win to win at odds of 22\1 by just over a length earning a RPR of 82. Good performance with a strong run from the middle of the field to lead and win well. Goes straight on the horses to follow list and will be of big interest in next race. Will need to step up on debut performance to justify Derby entry. Another to make debut today was Bold Lass who won her maiden at Leicester and will go onto the list as one to follow on next run who won at odds of 12/1. Was a watching brief for me today with this horse and did not back, mainly due to Trainer David Lanigan not having any 2yo winners this season yet. One tomorrow at Nottingham making his debut for trainer Mark Prescott a colt called Sarpech. Will have a look at the race in the morning

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Sarpech (DOB 06/03/13) Bay Colt Dam - Sadima (Sire - Saddlers Wells, Dam - Anima) Trainer - Sir Mark Prescott Bt Sarpech was a big Qatar Racing purchase at the Tattersalls October yearling sales for 430,000 Guineas and in what looks an interesting move has been sent to be trained by Sir Mark Prescott. This trainer is not noted for been a trainer for the Qatar/Pearl/Al Thani operation and I am surprised he has been sent such a big purchase. Prescott looks to have no other horses in training with this operation and had just 2 last year with one been moved to another trainer and the other has not raced again. Dam Sadima won her debut maiden in Ireland over 1m 2f and then competed in 4 more races but never threatened to win. Sarpech is the 8th foal of dam Sadima who has proved to be a capable Broodmare producing some good horses. 1st Foal - Youmzain (Colt) - The best offspring of Sadima with 2 group 1 wins and over £3m in earnings over 5 years. 32 career runs with only the first 4 as a 2yo below listed level. Record in 28 stakes races was 4 wins, 8 seconds and 7 thirds with his last 23 races all been in Group 1 races at 1m 4f. One performance of note was the 2nd to Sea The Stars at Longchamp in Arc De Triomphe in 2009 when 2 lengths behind. Lots of good performances behind some top quality horses and to many to mention but it is worth looking up his race record for further details. Effective on all surfaces. 2nd Foal - Creachadoir (Colt) - Group 1 winner of the Lockinge Stakes over a mile and winner of 3 group 3 races at distances of 7f to 1m. Consistent Group 1 performer who was most effective at around a mile. 4 wins and 3 seconds and raced predominatly on good ground. 3rd Foal - Shreyas (Filly) - 3 wins at stakes level with the best a Group 3 over 1m 1f on 2nd run. Again seemed most effective on the better ground and raced from 1m 1f to 1m 4f. 4th Foal - Did not race. 5th Foal - Sagacious (Filly) - Won on debut as a 2yo in Ireland over 1m. Only raced once more when 8th as a 3yo. 6th Foal - Spontaneous (Filly) - 3 runs and was a winner in last race in a fillies maiden over 1m 4f on heavy ground. 7th Foal - Savida (Filly) - 4 runs and winner on last start an all-weather maiden in june 2012 over 1m 4f. Sarpech will be the third colt from Dam Sadima and if he inherits any of his half-brothers ability or fathers ability could be a very good colt. Looks likely to a middle distance horse on breeding and currently holds a Racing Post Trophy Entry and a Derby Entry for next year. Worth watching on debut and would be an each way bet (currently available around 6\1). Will need to win or be close to winner to justify future entrys. Choice of trainer does puzzle me a bit and Prescotts 2yo usually need there debut run before showing improvement. Harry Bentley takes the ride as retained jockey of the connections but again not a usual Prescott Jockey with just 6 rides for the trainer in the last 5 years all in 2012 with 1 win.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Not a great deal to report with all recent runners been disappointing. Sarpech was only 8th but will surely improve for debut run for trainer Sir Mark Prescott but it was a disappointing debut. Sea Here also made his debut on Soft ground and was a 17l 3rd. Tall Ship failed to improve on debut performance and simply does not look good enough. Will not be following anymore. Sea The Moon was also disappointing In Germany finishing closer to last than 1st. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness With the flat season on turf ending on Saturday and no more entry's on turf, I am going to wrap this thread up for the winter. Just a few stats, betting performance and general reflection on Sea The Stars sons and daughters. Summary Of Results - UK and Ireland - Turf and AW 7 Sons and Daughters won races from 34 different runners. 4 winners on debut from 34 runners. 9 wins from 67 runs. Backing all on debut - 1pt Win @ SP Staked - 34 pts Return - 72 pts Profit - 28pts 4 Winners on debut had SP of 12/1, 14/1, 20/1 and 22/1 but these were all since the 21st of September so big losses until this point. Backing Every Runner - 1pt Win @ SP Staked - 67pts Returns - 96pts Profit - 19pts Horses To Follow in 2014 My Titania - The best filly by Sea The Stars in 2013 with a Group 3 win. 3 runs with 2 wins. One to watch for the classics next year. Best RPR 105. Stars Over the Sea - Best RPR 90 in a Nursery. 5 runs with 2 wins. Last 3 runs have been RPR of 85+. Would not have picked up as one to follow after debut run but has improved all year. Consistent. Casual Smile - Best RPR 89. 3 runs but yet to win. Fantastic breeding by Oaks Winner and looks a smart filly. 2nd on latest run to Taghrooda. 3 runs all rated over 80 RPR. Consistent and may still improve as a 3yo. Taghrooda - Debut RPR 85.Looks potentially good! Seagull Star - Debut RPR 82 after winning maiden at Newmarket over 1m. Moontime - RPR 80 on debut after winning maiden at Newmarket on only run. Munjaz - RPR 78 On debut. Latest RPR 80. 2 runs with 3rd on debut and 2nd on latest run. Mutakayyef - RPR 77 on debut when 2nd at Newmarket. El Najmm - RPR 76 on debut. Latest RPR 80. 2nd on latest run and one to consider after improvement from debut run. Others where considered as possibles to follow but these have all put up good debut performances or good performances since and potentially could be good enough to win group races. A Number of horses have had a good debut run but have failed to follow up with improvement so have been dismissed. Generally have been looking for a RPR of 75 on debut and then improvement on next run. LESSONS LEARNT * Popular sires will produce lots of offspring with many simply not good enough. If they produce a poor debut performance they will probably be not that good! * Sea The Stars seems to have a strong stamina influence. Certainly do not look the sprinting type. * Look to be late developers and this bodes well for next season as 3yo's. * Would have been worth backing all on debut but not for the faint hearted with the debut winners coming late in the season. * Do not look good on the All weather surfaces with no wins from 12 runs. Stick to Turf only. * Seem to act on all ground. * Do not spend time looking at Breeding before debut run, spent hours looking at this only for horses to prove to be poor. Further indepth study needs to be spent after a good performance to assess future potential. FINAL NOTE This was an idea at the start of the year which I had no idea on how it would evolve having very little knowledge of 2yo's and breeding. It would have been a success (profit wise) but I failed with that mission not backing the right horses at the right times. Was showing big losses and failed to keep the faith. A Costly mistake as the final figures show. The Plan next year is as follows..... * All highlighted horses in the final list of horse to follows will be backed on next run. Will be looking for improvement on seasonal debut or they will be dismissed as not good enough. * Back all horses (2yo's and 3yo's) making there debut when the turf season starts next year. Will be looking for a debut performance of RPR 75 or better for 2yo's and debut performance of RPR 85 (Subject to change) for 3yo's and these will be followed unless they do not improve on debut. * Back all horses not already identified, that win next year with RPR of 80+ next year for next run and if showing improvement continue to follow. Staking will be 1pt Win in all cases and turf only races. All weather races will be considered on an individual basis Thanks for all the views and comments throughout the year, it is something that I have totally enjoyed following the progress of the Great Sea The Stars Sons and Daughters. Apologies for not keeping proper records as the year progressed mainly due to getting cold feet over advising loser after loser before things started to turn around for the better late in the season. Will be able to keep better records now that I have a clear strategy for next year and the future. Unlikely to add anything until next year. Will keep an eye on any all weather runners but unless they win and put in a good performance will not be added to list of horses to follow.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness

Horses To Follow in 2014 El Najmm - RPR 76 on debut. Latest RPR 77. 2nd on latest run and one to consider after improvement from debut run./QUOTE] 17.15 Lingfield (AW) - 1pt Win @ 1\3 Bet365 BOG El Najamm makes his seasonal debut at Lingfield in a class 5 1m 2f maiden race for 3yo's today. Roger Varian trained runner for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum. Made his debut at Chepstow over 1m when 3rd of 10 runners and was given a debut rating of 77 by RPR. Both the winner and 2nd followed up in there next race with a win. El Najamm then was 2nd 1 length behind the winner at Haydock again over 1m and that performance has been given a RPR of 77 again, although was initially higher but has been subsequently downgraded. Likely to be suited by the step up to 1m 2f. Was originally going to ignore All-Weather runs but Sea The Stars progeny have now recorded 3 wins on the All Weather with 2 at Dundalk and 1 at Wolverhampton from 14 different runners. Also progeny have recorded 4 2nds at the all weather including here at Lingfield. Short odds and not a great bet but as El Najamm is on the horse's to follow list will back today.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness El Najamm finished 2nd at odds of 4\11 beaten by filly Moonrise Landing who looks a decent horse. Will keep El Najamm on the HTF (Horses To Follow) 2014 List for the moment. HTF 2014 All bets 1pt Win Bets > 1pt Wins > 0 Returns > 0pts Profit/Loss > -1pt Debut Runner Sunday 23/3/12 - Curragh - Aerialist - 1pt Win @ SP 6f Maiden race. Aerialist is the first foal of dam Maoineach. Aerialist is owned, trained and bred by the Jim Bolger family. My main reservation is that 6f may be to short a distance for this 3yo chestnut colt with most progeny racing over and needing further but the dam Maoineach mainly raced over 6f/7f as a 3yo and on only attempt at 1m was plum last. Maybe enough dam influence to be worth considering at this 6f trip on debut. Betting at SP as will not be able to check/take a price Sunday Morning.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Aerialist finished 9th of 20 runners. Disappointing debut over a distance that was probably to short and a long way behind the winner. Not good enough to go on the list of horses to follow this year and would need to put in a much improved run next time to be considered as a future prospect. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Don't give up on Aerialist: Cost €400k as a yearling and I would think he'll come on allot for this run. They probably bring him rather slowly along. This was just a race to give him some experience. Looked an absolute picture in the parade ring before the race btw...

Think you could be right about Aerialist. Have watched the replay a couple of times he seemed to run well on debut for a long way but clearly over a distance far to short. Unable to quicken at the business end of the race (or a tender ride) against horses that will probably be better at sprint distances. Should improve for a step up in distance and will keep an eye on next run. Certainly an expensive purchase as a yearling. Thanks for the info about parade ring, look forward to any feedback and pictures of Irish Sea The Star's runners at the Curragh this year from you.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness One runner in Ireland on Sunday at Leopardstown in a fillies maiden over 1m 2f. She's Mine a 3yo filly by dam Scribonia who made her debut last November here at Leopardstown over 7f when a 7l third. Trained by John M Oxx who had great success with Daddy Sea The Stars. Had no chance with the winner but a reasonable debut run and should improve for the step up in distance. The dam Scribonia was unraced but with the colt Galileo has produced some decent fillies with Black type . She's Mine was a big sale as a foal raising E800K at the Goffs November Foal Sales in 2011. Did not make the end of year HTF list for 2014, but worth watching and could show the improvement necessary to be considered in the future. A race to watch with interest. No bet advised as not on the Horse's To Follow 2014 or making debut. Backed into favorite at odds of 3\1 but finished 5th of 11 runners 3 lengths behind the winner. Actually looked a good fillies maiden and She's Mine ran a decent race and looks as if she will improve next time out on better ground. She's Mine was very keen early on but as the race advanced became more prominent and started to move into contention around 2f out. Jockey probably decided she would not quicken on the soft/heavy ground and did not give her too hard a race at the finish. 1m 2f seemed to be no problem for her. Worth watching her next run but does not quite make the list of Horses To Follow yet. Certainly of future interest though and hold an early entry for the Irish Oaks.

Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Debut Runner Wednesday 02/4/12 - Leopardstown - 16.10 - Starchitect - 1pt Win @ SP 1m Colts and Geldings 3yo Maiden race. Starchitect is trained in Ireland by Edward Lynam for owners Kilboy Estate and makes his debut in this 1m maiden wearing a hood. Has been Gelded. Starchitect is by dam Humilis who won 3 times as a 3yo at 1m 2f including a Listed win at Cork. The 5th foal of Humilis, Starchitect is likely to be comfortable on the projected soft ground but probably needs further than a mile. Other siblings by dam Humilis have performed moderately on track with a few placed efforts. Hood on debut is a worry, already gelded and unlikely on breeding to be a world beater but who knows until he performs on the track. Would need to be pretty decent to get near the Aiden O'Brien Colt Johann Strauss who was 2nd as a 2yo in the G1 racing post trophy. May add a price Wednesday morning if time available.

Finished 8th of 10 runners at an industry SP of 20/1 and a Betfair SP of 75\1 which is a reflection of the horses chance and was over 10 lengths behind the winner. Not overly disappointed with the performance as did not hold high hopes and one that is likely to be better over further and next time out. Should improve next time out but will not be following this horse any more unless he puts up a vastly improved performance next time out. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness

Debut Runner Sunday 06/4/12 - Cork - 17.40 - Golden Sky - 1pt Win @ SP PP 1m 2f 50y Fillies 3yo Maiden race.
Finished 4th of 6 runners at an SP of 7/1 about 25 lengths behind a very impressive winner Ebeyina who was 23 lengths ahead of the 2nd horse. Golden Sky finished with 2 others in group well clear of the 5th horse. Reasonable debut performance but absolutely no chance with the winner and will improve next time out but unlikely to improve to be top level. Received an initial RPR of 49 for her debut. I am looking for a RPR of 85 or above to merit future consideration on debut for 3yo's. As an example the winner of this race Ebeyina received an initial RPR of 98 for winning this fillies maiden on debut and would be followed on next run. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Debut Runner Tuesday 08/4/12 - Pontefract - 14.40 - Munatas - 1pt Win @ 16\1 SJ (BOG) 1m 2f 6y 3yo Maiden stakes race. Munatas is the second foal of unraced dam Dashing. Trained by Roger Varian and ridden today by Jack Mitchell. Tough looking debut with 9 of the 11 rivals already having experience of the race track and 3 rivals all holding big entries in various 3yo classics. Munatas would need to be a decent horse to have a chance in this maiden.

3rd of 11 runners at an SP of 28\1 just over 2 lengths behind the winner. Ran a decent race for his debut and could be one to follow. Made decent progress after initially been held up in the rear and finished his race well despite been unable to quicken on the soft ground. Trip looked to be of no concern and will look out for his next run. Not sure of the value of the form as all the fancied horses finished behind Munatas and the race time was slower than the other 1m 2f races at the track today. Will see what sort of RPR is given to runners in this race before considering if Munatas should be added to the Horses To Follow list. Re: Sea The Stars - Sons and Daughters on The Road to Greatness Hi Smarty, great thread and keep in going. Ive been awol the past few months and only just caught up reading your summary. Looks like STS 2yo are not going to be worth backing until the 7f races start and maybe that's the coincidence with the late season winners(Might help achieve a better profit and S/R). Definitely agree with you when you stated that stamina looks to be his forte. Going to be interesting to see how his 3yo perform this season and on what ground they do best(looking like like decent ground atm).
