Re: Champions League T20 2012 Tournament preview: 2pts ew Sydney Sixers to win Champions League 8/1 Bet365 (1/3 1-2) 1pt ew Uva Next to win Champions League 40/1 Ladbrokes (1/3 1-2) The team I like in the tournament most of all though are the Sydney Sixers. In Shane Watson they have arguably the hottest player on the planet right now while in the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood they have a quick bowling attack and they have a lot of big hitters in their ranks which can take advantage of the small grounds this tournament are being played on. A few of the players in this squad won the Champions League in 2009 and at 8/1 the Sixers look the best value in the tournament to me. Perhaps the best of the sides who need to qualify could be the Sri Lankan champions Uva Next who are entitled to be better than any Sri Lanka side who have previously played in this tournament. With the Sri Lankan Premier League allowing overseas players they look stronger than any side to have represented Sri Lanka in this competition before and with Umar Gul and Jacob Oram in their bowling attack and some explosive batsmen they could be worth a small each way bet. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Taking four outrights to begin with. May get stuck into the team markets once we've seen a few matches. Taking these two.....

and these two..... 1pt ew F.du Plessis Top Tournament Batsman 33/1 Stan James (1/4 1-5) 0.5pts ew M.Henriques Top Tournament Batsman 66/1 Stan James (1/4 1-5) Faf du Plessis looks a big price to me. He could well be the opening batsman for the Chennai Super Kings in this tournament and he'll be playing in conditions he has grown up in and knows so well. We saw in South Africa's last match in the World T20 that he can play against the better bowlers in the world and that knock alone will have given him so much confidence coming into the Champions League. Faf Du Plessis scored just under 400 runs in a very successful IPL season and I would expect him to go well if given the chance in this tournament. He plays a lot of his matches in Johannesburg which could be crucial so I'm happy to take the 33/1 on du Plessis going well. Moises Henriques ended the Big Bash League opening the batting for the Sydney Sixers in their triumph and although I would expect Shane Watson and Brad Haddin to open in this tournament there's nothing to say he won't bat high up the order. He's began the Australian domestic season in excellent form with a huge century and three half centuries including a 70 odd off just 40 odd balls in the Ryobi Cup for NSW. It's a long shot and he will probably need to bat up the order but if he does there's no reason why Henriques can't go well at a very tasty price in this event.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Opening match preview: 3pts J.Oram's Performance Pts - 30&Over 5/6 Bet365 One thing we can predict is that Jacob Oram will have a good game because he will bowl at the start of the innings and at the end of it and he will come in for some late order biffing too. His performance target is just 30pts which he can cover with a good day with the ball or an average one with bat and ball. 30pts looks a little on the low side to me here so I’ll take the New Zealand all rounder to cover that total. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Tricky first game of this tournament. I've a feeling that Uva Next are overpriced but given I've had a tickle on them outright I'll leave that and just have this one as my only bet in the opening game.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 I'm looking forward to this tournament. My outrights: 1/10pts Sydney Sixers to win Champions League T20 - 8/1 with Bet365 I think this is a point or so too big so will happily take the Australian outfit as my only outright winner bet. The main reason for taking this is the pace attack they have because there aren't many others who will have a unit as well suited to some of the wickets as the Sixers do. Starc and Cummins come here in good form and they are well backed up by Hazlewood and of course the man-of-the-moment - Shane Watson. Watson is a massive threat with bat and ball and whilst the batting department may not be as strong as some other sides, they should be more suited to the wickets than a lot of the Asian players on show. I'd back this selection down to 7s so 8/1 is enough to get me involved.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 4/10pts Yorkshire to beat Uva Next - 8/11 with William Hill I think this price just about provides a little value on the Yorkshire win. Uva have been weakened considerably over the last few days because of the lack of Gayle and Tharanga in their batting line-up. They have some decent bowlers lead by Umar Gul but their side doesn't look balanced to me and I feel their batting may let them down in this match. I've watched quite a bit of Yorkshire this season and in Ashraf, Sidebottom and Patterson they have a very accurate and dangerous fast bowling unit with Rashid and Rafiq offering spin options. I feel Yorkshire's batting may swing this in their favour because Miller, Jacques, Root, Ballance and Gale are all very solid players who can all take the game away from the opposition with big knocks. 8/11 is good enough to tempt me.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Late game preview: 4pts Auckland to beat Sialkot Stallions 11/10 Ladbrokes Auckland arrived in South Africa two weeks ago so they will be well prepared going into this match and we’ve seen in the first match that there isn’t a lot of spin in the wicket which may not help the Pakistan side. The wicket looks good for batting so I would expect Auckland to be favoured here. As long as they don’t get stuck against the spinners, which they shouldn’t do with the lack of turn in the wicket, then I think this one is very much for the taking for the New Zealand champions. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Wednesday early game preview: 5pts Hampshire vs Auckland - Over 8.5 6's 5/6 Stan James Centurion isn’t the biggest ground and is still at altitude and both sides have players in their ranks who can clear the ropes. If Hampshire bat first and the likes of Ervine and Maxwell get going they could cover this total on their own but Auckland have enough hitters to chip in too. Neither side have the best bowling attack so I’m content we’ll see at least 9 6’s here. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Wednesday late game preview: 5pts Trinidad & Tobago Most 6's vs Yorkshire Evs Bet365 Like most Caribbean sides they have big hitters all the way down even without Pollard and Dwayne Bravo. Although those two are missing the likes of Barath, Simmons, Perkins, Mohammed and Cooper all hit big. Yorkshire don’t really hit a lot of sixes and will be without their main six hitter in David Miller so the even money on Trinidad & Tobago hitting the most sixes looks very good value to me. and this one.... 1pt ew A.Rashid Top Yorkshire Batsman 12/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) Adil Rashid showcased his batting talents against Uva Next on Tuesday and there's no reason why he can't do similar in this match. Clearly with these odds Coral haven't realised that David Miller isn't available so immediately the 12/1 looks good value. This Centurion wicket clearly isn't as good as previous ones have been in past events on this ground so it may well be that a bit of unorthodox batting against the older ball is easier than facing the harder, newer ball. Yorkshire openers will have to go through the opening pair of Rampaul and Badree who look the two standout bowlers so it may well be easier to score later in the innings which should in theory play right into Rashid's hands for the second day running.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Thursday previews: 4pts Uva Next to beat Trinidad & Tobago 11/10 Ladbrokes Trinidad & Tobago will be gutted not to have beaten Yorkshire and they have a quick turnaround for this match where motivation will be hard to come by. Uva Next are still a side maturing with each other so there’s probably more that they can get out of the game so with that little extra motivation I’ll take them to win this one. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/uva-next-vs-trinidad--tobago-betting-uva-next-can-win-the-opening-dead-rubber-on-thursday 4pts Sialkot Stallions to beat Hampshire 6/5 Stan James I’ll just go with the side who will probably be less disappointed with their exit in Sialkot. They will be less disappointed as this is the first year a Pakistan side have been in the tournament so it was a breakthrough for them just to be there. Hampshire are a good T20 side who really wanted to show that on what could be the last time an English side enters this competition. I saw a number of players struggle to hide how gutted they were on twitter and with emotions still raw Sialkot could be the value here. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Taking two in the early game on Thursday. This one.....

Thursday previews: 4pts Uva Next to beat Trinidad & Tobago 11/10 Ladbrokes Trinidad & Tobago will be gutted not to have beaten Yorkshire and they have a quick turnaround for this match where motivation will be hard to come by. and.... 5pts Over 9.5 6's 5/6 William Hill This line looks pretty low to me. T&T hit four 6's in their game against Yorkshire on a tricky wicket when they were 9/3 so if they can get off to a better start with their openers then I would expect them to come close to covering this total on their own, particularly if they are batting first. Uva Next have some clean hitters in their ranks too though and will chip in to this total especially against a T&T attack which bowled an awful lot of medium pace fifth against Yorkshire on Wednesday. This wicket at JoBurg is a cracker for batting, the ball flies further at the altitude and the boundaries aren't big anyway. With no pressure on either side I think we'll get a bit of a big hitting exhibition here so I'm happy that we'll see a six count which sails into the double figures.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Saturday early game preview: 4pts Perth Scorchers to beat Titans 4/5 Blue Square The Scorchers look the better side to me here and even though the Titans are effectively at home I think the batting power the Scorchers have and the variety they have in their bowling attack can be crucial. The Titans have begun their domestic season so will come into this with a competitive edge but the Scorchers had enough players playing in the recent World T20 that it shouldn’t be much of an advantage and I expect the Australian side to come through this one. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Saturday late game preview: 4pts Delhi Daredevils to beat Kolkata Knight Riders 10/11 Stan James With the batting explosion they possess and the quality seamers they have too I think the Daredevils should be favoured here. You would think Sunil Narine will be nullified to some extent on these wickets and there’s no doubt while the Knight Riders’ batting is effective in Indian conditions I’m far from convinced it will be in these conditions so everything points towards the Daredevils here and that’s where my money is heading too. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Sunday previews: 4pts Sydney Sixers to beat Chennai Super Kings Evs Bet365 We saw in the Delhi vs Kolkata match that the Indian batsmen don’t like the pace and particularly the bounce in these wickets and that is likely to be the case with the Super Kings too. We’ve seen in England how Suresh Raina for example is a shambles at playing the short ball. The Sixers bowlers will pepper the Super Kings batsmen here and on a wicket which hasn’t offered any turn so far I expect the Sixers to chase down any total. Re: Champions League T20 2012 Just this one for me in the opening match on Sunday for now. Contemplating a couple more which I'll come back with if I take them.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 I'm liking the look of S. Watson - 44&Over Performance Points @ 1.83 (Bet365). For a true all-rounder in brilliant form, this line looks fairly low. Watson has a knack of taking a wicket or two and has the ability to bowl that crucial last over which improves his wicket-taking potential even further. He can also cover this easily with the bat if he gets going, and the bounce in these wickets shouldn't pose too much of a problem for Australian batsmen. I also began to steer clear of the MoM market when Watson was being priced as low as 4's and 5's towards the end of the World Cup, but at 7.50 he might be worth a shout again. I can't believe his form has completely disappeared and his lack of performance towards the end of the World Cup can be at least partially explained by the game situations Australia found themselves in (chasing 200+ with the only two batsman capable of helping him reach it being dismissed early).

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Top shout Lahrio :ok. Three for me in the second game. This one.....

5pts Mumbai Indians Most 6's vs Lions 5/6 Paddy Power With the likes of Pollard, Levi while he’s at the crease, Sharma and Rayudu, the Indians have some big hitters in their side and I think they can hit the most 6’s against a batting line up which mostly gets the job done on the deck. and..... 4pts Over 35.5 boundaries 8/11 William Hill We've seen in the first match that these boundaries are perfectly accessible and the outfield is absolutely lightning quick. There were 46 boundaries in the early match here and the wicket still looks good for batting. The Highveld Lions have a lot of players who can find the boundary if not go over the boundary while the Mumbai Indians have the best batsman in the business as well as plenty of other boundary hitters. There's nothing in this wicket for the bowlers at all so I expect the boundaries to keep on flowing in the second game of the day. 3pts Highest Individual Score - Over 70 9/4 Stan James Speculative punt here on someone getting more than 70 runs. The boundaries here are short so it is easy to score runs quickly as Moises Henriques showed and with the likes of Tendulkar, Petersen and McKenzie on show who will all look to bat through the innings for their team to allow the bigger hitters to flourish then I think the chance of one of them covering this total has to be quite high. Failing that there's nothing to suggest Pollard won't come out with that tree of a bat he uses and clobber 70 runs worth over the ropes. When these two met on this ground in the opening match of the 2010 tournament Jonathan Vandiar made 71 in a winnings Lions effort while Sachin made 69 in reply so the potential for someone to go over 70 here is very much there.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Monday preview: 4pts Auckland to beat Kolkata 11/8 Ladbrokes The key to this match could well be Brendon McCullum. He’ll know all of this Auckland side and if he ends up splattering them to all parts then Kolkata will be in the box seat but if Auckland can get him early they could be in business, especially if Jacques Kallis doesn’t play. Only McCullum can take this game away from Auckland with the bat and if they can find a way to play Narine well in conditions which shouldn’t suit the West Indian then they could just sneak a first win here. Re: Champions League T20 2012 I agree with Kev on the Auckland H2H market. At odd of 2.54 with Pinnacle they look good value. The Lions showed yesterday that despite the big names in some of these IPL sides, they are certainly beatable given the conditions. I am also interested in Total 6's - Under 8.5 @ 2.00 (Bet365). This tends to be a fairly low-scoring ground in T20's, and these sides don't feature a wealth of 6 hitters. As Kev mentioned, the two NZ boys in McCullum and Guptill are probably the main threat to this market, but at evens I think there is enough value given the majority of matches at Cape Town don't cover this line.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 2 for me in this match. This one which is now 6/4 with Ladbrokes.....

and 4pts S.Narine Most Economical Bowler 13/8 Stan James This market includes Sunil Narine, Brett Lee, L Balaji, Kyle Mills, Azhar Mahmood and Andre Adams. This looks a no brainer to me. The best batsmen New Zealand have to offer can't play quality spin so I don't see how lesser players are going to fare against him. As Lahrio has mentioned this is a lower scoring ground out on the coast and a lot of that is because the pace and bounce in the wicket isn't as exaggerated as at Centurion or Johannesburg. Narine only went for 21 from his four overs against a powerful Delhi batting line up who all play spin well in Kolkata's first match and that was in unhelpful conditions so I think he'll go just as well if not better here. The danger would appear to be Brett Lee but the Kiwis will have seen enough of him and may well get after him knowing they will struggle later against Narine. Kyle Mills looks the most economical of the Auckland three in this market but the likes of Bisla and McCullum can tuck into him which should be good enough to make sure he's not a factor so everything points to Narine for me here.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 One more outright punt before tomorrow's action.... 3pts M.Henriques Top Sydney Sixers Tournament Batsman 9/2 Skybet Skybet obviously haven't realised that Shane Watson has been ordered home after two more matches to prepare for Australia's international summer. Watson isn't actually leading the way for the Sixers so far anyway, that's Henriques and there's the chance that Henriques could play three more matches than Watson in this tournament if the Sixers make the final. With a win over Chennai already in the bag and with Watson around for the matches against Yorkshire and the Highveld Lions, the Sixers are already looking good for the semi final which would mean a guaranteed two more innings for Henriques barring injury of course. When Watson wasn't available in the Big Bash League, Henriques went up to open the batting and it could just be that with the way he's started this competition he will fill the opening spot once Watson heads back home. Either way, I'm not altogether convinced Watson is a feature in this market anymore and with a 23 run lead on anyone else in the side already the 9/2 on Henriques to go on and be the Sixers top batsman in the tournament looks very much on the large side to me.

Re: Champions League T20 2012 Tuesday previews: 5pts Sydney Sixers Most 6's vs Yorkshire 5/6 Paddy Power With Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, Michael Lumb and Moises Henriques all natural hitters of the ball and big hitters at that, I expect the Sixers to hit the most sixes here. It really is generally only Ballance and the lower order who hit sixes regularly for Yorkshire and I’m not sure he will hit the pace of Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood for six. I think Sydney will hit the most sixes here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/sydney-sixers-vs-yorkshire-betting-sixers-can-live-up-to-their-name-and-hit-the-most-sixes 4pts Lions to beat Chennai Super Kings 11/8 Skybet I think the Lions are overpriced here. They will know the conditions perfectly and they have a bowling attack which the Super Kings batsmen won’t like to face. Even with Hussey and du Plessis in the side nobody likes facing Nannes and Tanvir on these wickets. Neil McKenzie plays spin well to negate the threat of the Super Kings spin department and there’s nothing to worry about in their pace attack. The Lions match up well against Chennai and in these conditions they have to be the bet in this match.
