Re: CAPITAL ONE CUP 25TH AND 26TH SEPTEMBER 2012 I’ve only looked at Tuesday’s matches so far but here are my early views. In their last round Southampton fielded a totally reserve team, which would indicate that Nigel Adkins is not taking this competition too seriously. Most newly promoted teams don’t really want to be involved heavily in cup competitions, as it distracts from the main aim of the season and obviously as most newly promoted teams lack quality in reserve they don’t want to risk injuries or suspensions. Maybe we’ll see one or two of the late signings getting more fitness but other than that I’m assuming that it’ll be a relatively weak team, Championship standard at best based on the players who were put out in the previous round vs Orient. They’ll come up against a Wednesday team who have tailed of a little bit after a strong start to their campaign, but with Dave Jones in charge you’ll feel that he’ll treat the cup competitions with a bit more respect than Adkins is this season. Certainly in both the previous rounds we’ve seen solid enough teams put out by Jones and if team news suggest something similar for this tie, then something like Sheffield Wednesday +0.75AH at around evens could tempt. Another manager who has a great history in this competition is Martin O’Neil. He’s won it before with Leicester and took Villa to a couple of finals during his reign there. He knows that his Sunderland team are strong enough for a solid mid table finish in the league so will be happy to put more effort into a cup run to entertain fans. The team he put out against Morecombe in the second round was probably the strongest team he could name, and I’d expect similar against league one MK Dons. If so then they should be good enough to get the win. Certainly given the lack of wins in the league at the start of this season and the end of last, Sunderland could do with a win to improve belief a little, regardless of the opposition. The Sunderland win is at 2.2. Wigan might also interest me a little at their current price at just over 4.0’s. I can see both teams mixing their first 11’s up a bit as they did in the previously round and if so, I feel neither has a real advantage here which makes the odds on Wigan seem a little high, so the +0.5 at around evens might be worth a go.

I know it's short but over 2.5 goals at St. Mary's between Southampton and Sheffield wednesday has to be the play this round. Both sides can't defend to save their lives and whilst I'd expect Southampton at the very least to make the changes, the way they play as a team usually equals goals. Wednesday have gone off the boil in the league but they're still conceding and scoring in equal measure. I can't see this being a boring dull affair. Elsewhere there may be value in backing Crawley to get something from their home fixture against Swansea. Crawley usually put in a good shift at home to higher league sides, and I'd expect Swansea to make changes. Crawley have faltered in the league a couple of times, but I expect them to be up for this tie. They should be looking to bounce back from their 2-5 loss at home tranmere at the weekend. I also think city are too short, and although they have the players capable of destroying most sides in the English leagues, they've been very complacent this year. So for me it depends on whether or not villa put their first team out... There could be something in both to score though. I think as well, now is probably the time to be backing everton. They're playing outstanding football in the league, and don't have a huge squad of players. There are one or two fringe players that could come in, but mostly I'd expect the nucleus of a first team squad to participate. Maybe Brian Oviedo will finally make his debut, depending on international clearance. Everton are available just under evens with a few firms. 1.9 with paddy power and stan James. I know Leeds have been having a few injuries recently and defensively they aren't looking great. They've kept three clean sheets this season. Two of which were in the earlier rounds of the carling cup against Shrewsbury and Oxford. They've conceded nine goals in their last four league games and you have to think that If Everton play with the same energy they've shown so far this season they will get the win. They could also use a good cup run as they're often lacking in finances. Getting to the final will give them added finances, and possibly a place in Europe. For Leeds I'd say they have bigger Priorities this year. Like halting their slide down the league table and avoiding a possible relegation scrap.

Re: CAPITAL ONE CUP 25TH AND 26TH SEPTEMBER 2012 2 prices immediately stand out in Wolves and Doncaster Chelsea wont want too many games this season and i expect a reserve side out for this game although that would possibly include Mata, Sturridge etc but Cech wont play, neither will terry, cole, lamps, hazard, torres etc Wolves are playing better now and may just take thier chances against a Chelsea side unable to beat QPR, and struggled to get past Stoke. Not sure how to play the bet yet but fancy an upset here by the end of the night Doncaster is the other one as i expect Norwich will move their team around for this game and have been turned over before at home in cups by lower league opposition. Going to play this one also but will wait for team news also

Re: Capital One Cup 25TH/26TH September 2012 England Carling Cup- 25th of September- 20.45 CET - MK Dons-Sunderland AH-0.5 @2.23 4/10 188bet The Dons won 4-1 away at Bury at the weekend but they just played against the bottom ranked team. Bury was poor and the Dons did use their chances. Before that, they scored jsut 7 goals in 7 matches as the offense isn't the best at all as it seems. They also have a small squad, the had one seat on the bench empty on saturday while two players had to be substituted at the end of the first half due to injuries. It could be the fact that the coahc is going to rotate a bit because of their small squad and the amount of matches to come. Sunderland didn't won so far, just 4 draws yet. They weren't great against West Ham as the hosts dominated the enitre match but they were unlucky when they got the equaliser in the injury time by Nolan. They are still lookin for their first league victory since march. Coach O'Neill has a long history in this cup winning it with Leicester and being in finals with Aston Villa. He takes this competition seriously as seen in in the previous round when Sunderland hosted Morecambe and played with most of their first choice players. MON could use this to build confidence for the upcoming league match as well. I don't see many goals but when a Premier League is playing a team two leagues below and also with probably most of first choice players, then I see the Premier League team as the favourites especially with a coach who takes this competition very seriously. Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September Burton gave their best to continue against Sheffield United and Leicester which are both much bigger teams. They dreamed of a Premier league opponent to attract TV and money. They should be disappointed with the draw as they play away to Bradford which is like another League two game away on Tuesday after the Saturday game away with Torquay..It may sound strange to some of you but I think that they will not be motivated enough to beat Bradford.Bradford on their hand are the best home team in the league, won all four games conceding only two goals and scoring twelve.Burton aren't great on the road and have a second consecutive travel. So I take Bradford 1.90 with Bet365.Good luck.

Agree wholeheartedly about Sunderland, even though similarly reasoned picks (i.e. backing teams who will take the competition seriously) in English cup competitions have let me down in the past. 2.31 @ Pinnacle right now...have put 2.5 points on that. I initially liked the Wednesday shout but having checked the line-ups, there were actually ten changes between the Fulham game and their latest league game so I'm not so sure it is value.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September I think WBA is worth a shot. They are high-flying right now being ranked number 3 right now having faced Liverpool already and beating them 3-0. Liverpool had really bad luck on sunday not just because they lost. Defender Kelly was injured in the last minutes and he will miss the most of the season now, it was confirmed. Agger is likely to be out for such a long time as well as it seems he sustained a similar injury. Also striker Borini got a knock on his ankle. Shelvey is suspended. Furthermore I expect Suarez to be rested as Borini could be out for a longer time and they would rely on Suarez even more. Gerrard could well be rested like Reina and Skrtel. So WBA to win or DNB is worth to be taken here.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September To follow up on my previous post, I’ll be taking small punts on; Sunderland -0.5AH 2.23 at Bet Victor (2.5 / 10 units) As discussed O’Neill is someone who takes this competition seriously and all signs so far point to the likelihood of him putting out a very strong team as he did in the last round. Whilst MK Dons are decent team themselves, they are going to miss Bullard probably there most experienced player at this level, and will find it hard to match a strong Sunderland side over the 90 minutes. Sheffield Wednesday +0.75AH 1.91 at Bet Victor ( 2 / 10 units) As expected there is a strong suggestion that Adkins will play a mix of reserve and youth players for this one and its clear that understandably he doesn’t really care too much about this competition. Whilst Wednesday are likely to shake things up a little I think they are the team with the greater desire to go further in this competition and they may well be looking to build a bit of form back up after a run of defeats. As the win over Fulham showed they are still able to mix it with Prem sides even when they make a few changes to the first 11. As for Wednesday nights action, I’m in agreement that West Brom look a good price. I may well take them on the 0AH or similar. They’ve already beaten Liverpools first 11 at home this season, and if we assume Rodgers is likely to make some changes then they would be confident of a repeat performance. I also feel the QPR are a good price, as whilst they will rest players, so will Reading and they have a much stronger set of players in reserve than the opposition. Whilst the odds are low, Spurs at 1.50 may we worth considering depending on what the team news is. I reckon AVB may take the cups seriously this season (he’s already played a strong team in the Europa League) as there is nothing like some early silverware to keep the fans of your back.

I'm pretty sure AVB will put out a second string side at Carlisle. It should still have some high quality players such as Lloris, Dawson and Huddlestone in it though, as well as some decent youngsters such as Mason, Townsend and maybe Caulker. We should beat Carlisle but I'm not sure there's much value at that price.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September 5pts Everton to beat Leeds 4/5 Stan James I like Everton in this match. They look a very slick outfit this season and have just been to one tough place to go and prevailed. There doesn’t look to be too many weaknesses in their side and I think they have the midfield and attack to expose Leeds here. With Becchio not fully fit Leeds might struggle a wee bit up top so I’m confident Everton can triumph here. Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September Chelsea -2 (EH) @ 2.75 sportsbet Chelsea -3 (EH) @ 5.00 sportsbet Both teams are looking to rest players for this game as they have important weekend games coming up. Chelsea are likely to include fringe players Marin, Piazon, Moses and Azpilicueta for their first game for the club and each has some class and talent above the norm to create some chances and goals here. They have plenty of depth in the squad and like them to be too strong for Wolves, who are likely to be going to Stamford Bridge with a severely depleted squad. Wolves managers Solbakken has said that as "many as 9 or 10 changes will be made for the cup clash" with Chelsea, and given that they do not have the resources that Chelsea has, then would not be surprised that the team he fields is pretty much their reserve side. They have a home game with near bottom Sheffield Wednesday and three points there, to keep their momentum of 3 straight wins going, is more important than playing in a League Cup which they will never win Everton -1 (EH) @ 2.70 sportsbet Everton have been in very good form this season and are away to Leeds who are mid table in the Championship. Expect Moyes to play a very strong side for this game, much like he did in the previous round when they beat Leyton Orient, as he looks to finally get some silverware for the clubs and with most of the top clubs resting players and not taking it as seriously as they should in the earlier rounds then they will be hoping that a few of them get knocked out. However they will take it pretty seriously and with a home game against Southampton coming up, then these players will not have to worry too much about this upcoming game. Instead they can look to win this one, and with Leeds missing several players due to injury, then they are looking out of sorts for this game. They are away to another midtable side, Bristol City, on the weekend, in a game that means more to them, so would not be surprised that they rest some of their players for this game. Everton have the class edge for this game and like them to win this one well Sunderland @ 2.15 sportsbet Sunderland -1 (EH) @ 4.20 sportsbet Sunderland is another EPL side that takes this competition seriously as they fielded a very strong side in the previous round when they beat Morecambe. They do have Wigan at home on Saturday as they look to break a run of four draws but tonight they face a Milton Keynes Dons side that lies fourth in League One and beat Blackburn in the previous round of this competition. MKD will put up a fight but they do lack the quality the O'Neill can out out in this game,

Solbakken told TV2 Norway that he would change 10 players but that the 10 new were so hungry that they could run all the way to London. There was a big risk it would go bad but he wished that they could obtain a draw and then win on penalties (with a grin)

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September 3pts Man U vs Newcastle - Over 3.5 goals 7/4 Ladbrokes I think we’ll see some goals in this match. United’s first choice defence looks leaky at the minute without so a changed one should continue that trend. Newcastle keep more clean sheets but they’ll be rotating too and United have a lot of young players going in behind. I would expect this to be quite high scoring with the end result being something like 3-1 or 3-2 so I’m happy to take a punt on the over 3.5 goals in this one. Vidic is out for 2 months which leaves Ferguson just with Ferdinand and Evans as centre-backs. I don't see any of them playing in this match. Probably he will give M.Keane, Thorpe and Wooton a run out.

I think Newcastle could be a decent bet this round as united haven't been stunning this season anyway. I would expect Newcastle to make changes but I couldn't back this united side to beat many teams right now on such short odds. I agree with Bowles' assessment of Doncaster too. Norwich look like they're there for the taking in this competition to me.

Mixed results but the main bet won, so +1.1 units for the evening. Shame I decided not to bother backing Wigan. West Brom is looking like the only possible play for me tomorrow.

I'm gonna take Newcastle HT @5.25 not in my internet bookies, but in real life . I think they can surprised MU in the 1st Half with my men Ben Arfa,Ba, Cabaye (i hope they gone all played) Sorry for my bad english See Ya

Cant understand why West Brom have drifted, can only assume they will be ubderstrength as well. This is from the Liverpool Echo: JEROME SINCLAIR could become the youngest player in Liverpool’s history tonight after being promoted to the first team squad for the Capital One Cup tie at West Brom. The highly-rated striker, who only celebrated his 16th birthday last Thursday, will travel with the Reds to the Hawthorns. Boss Brendan Rodgers is considering naming Sinclair among his substitutes and if he comes on he will beat the record currently held by Jack Robinson, who made his debut at the age of 16 and 250 days against Hull City in May 2010. Ironically, Sinclair started his career at the West Brom Academy before Liverpool swooped to secure his services in the summer of 2011. He has impressed for the under-18s so far this season and shone in last week’s NextGen Series clash with Inter Milan. Teenage defender Stephen Sama has also been elevated to the squad for tonight’s trip to the Midlands as Rodgers prepares to field a youthful line-up. Jose Enrique has been ruled out with a niggling knee injury, joining Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly, Fabio Borini and Jon Flanagan on the casualty list. Jonjo Shelvey starts a three-match ban following his red card against Manchester United and Joe Cole isn’t yet ready for action having only started training again last week after a hamstring strain. With only a dozen senior players fit and available, Rodgers will not risk his star names tonight. Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina and Joe Allen will all be rested ahead of Saturday’s league clash at Norwich City. Youngsters Suso and Andre Wisdom, who made their first team bows away to Young Boys in the Europa League last week, are set to feature again tonight. There will also be a debut for 18-year-old German striker Samed Yesil, who was an unused substitute in Switzerland. In the absence of Gerrard, Jamie Carragher will captain the side with Brad Jones deputising for Reina in goal. Nuri Sahin, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Oussama Assaidi should also start.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September England League Cup- 26th of September- 20.45 CET- West Bromwich-Liverpool AH0 1 @2.12 3/10 ladbrokes West Brom is high-flying right now. They have already faced a few good opponents and beat them- They have played against Liverpool and beat them comfortable with 3-0. Today they are about to make a few changes but they are still better than Liverpool. The Reds will have a lot of players unavailable: Jose Enrique, Agger, Lucas, Flanagan, Kelly, Cole and Borini are injured. Shelvey will start his three-match-ban after being sent off on sunday. Reina, Skrtel, Gerrard, Allen, Johnson and Luis Suarez will be rested. A lot of young players have travelled incuding J.Sinclair, who just turned 16 a few days ago. Also included are Sama, Susa, Wisdom and Yesil. WBA should have big chances of achieving the next round. GL

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September I'm quite tempted by a big lay of Arsenal (1.2) with the intention of trading it back out. Sure, I think they will win, but the market appears not to have taken into account there could be some very raw talent on display here. Arsenal have always gone for youth in the cup but there seems to be a difference this time with many players in line for a debut. The last time Arsenal played opposition of this ilk was against Shrewsbury at home last year and they fell behind but came back very strongly. I fancy them to make a slow start here as well.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September Carlisle v Spurs 3pts Spurs -1 @ 2.25 StanJames Even when resting players the Spurs fringe players should be looking to make an impression here tonight. Dawson, Huddlestone and Townsend are all set to make first starts of the season here and i feel that Spurs will be far too strong for Carlisle. Carlisle haven't had a bad season so far and sit in mid table, but they have conceded 12 goals and with Spurs already scoring 8 in 5 this season i think there could be a few more here tonight. Defoe has already got 4 in 6 this season and if he does start here tonight i think there could be a couple in it for him, even if he doesn't Adebayor, Dempsey, Sigurddson and Dembele all know how to find the back of the net. Expecting an attacking performance from Spurs tonight and a comfortable win. West brom v Liverpool 4pts West brom to win @ 2.875 Betfred Some real value on West Brom here for tonight. Brendan Rogers has made 100% clear the premier league is Liverpools main priority this season and i think West Brom will take full advantage of this. Liverpool look set to field a 2nd string side and West brom should have the experience within there squad to get the win tonight. A similar Liverpool team to the one that played Young boys a week ago looks set to be announced tonight and in all honesty Liverpool weren't great in Switzerland and they are up against a much tougher opposition tonight and in West brom and i expect a much tougher game. For Liverpool to come as favourites in to this game in my opinion is a bit of a joke, they have been poor this season with only 2 points, in fairness they have played City, United and Arsenal, but a team who is looking for a champions league place should not be dropping this many points in the first 5 games of the season. West Brom have had a great start under Clarke and sit in 4th with 10 points, they have been strong at home and are still unbeaten on home turf so tonight should be a good win for Brom and they should be in the draw for the 4th round.

Re: Capital One Cup 25/26 September I'm going with the rest of the thread here in a vote for West Brom. The league cup is notoriously hard to confidently predict results but the way West Brom have started in the league, and with oppertunities for income through European fixtures increasingly hard to achieve for clubs outside the top six, seven or even eight clubs in the Premiership, this represents an oppertunity for additional income and possible silverware (at least a "trip to Wembley") for clubs like West Brom. Having seen Everton and Fulham in the last round defying my logic by losing to lower league teams I think the problem possibly was that they where up against lower league sides who naturally have an edge to their game and trying to get one over the big boys. West Brom face a Liverpool side depleted from a regular look first eleven, will play with players who are probably never going to be good enough for Liverpool's standards. I hope West Brom play a strong 11 and if they do I'd be fairly confident of a home win tonight at odds of 17/10 I'm doubling this with QPR at odds of 4/5 at home to Reading. Much like West Brom I see this as chance for QPR in terms of income and a chance of a trophy. I do think they will rest a few players but they have a fairly strong sqaud and with Reading likely to rest a few too I think QPR will be to strong for them. Mark Hughes won the league cup a few times as a player and is a manager with a fairly strict approach to things. I can see this being fairly convinving for the home side as I do not rate Reading from the limited amount I have seen them this season, I do like the guy Jimmy Kebe though and he could return tonight, if he does I'll have a small side bet for him to score at anytime. Cheers
