Re: Golf: The Open 2011

Really looking forward to this Open especially as I have a ticket for the Friday. Joe
Im going on the Sunday so hopefully it's something like 1 shot separating the top 10 :lol I've been told to watch out for Francis McGuirk, i know absolutely f*ck all about him other than he comes into this in good form and lives practically right next to the course, knows it like the back of his hand apparently. 1000 on Betfair now so obviously not got much of a chance but if anyone knows anything more about him it would be appreciated.

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 Will be interesting to see how Rory McIlroy performs after having taken a three week break with a few big golf names thinking its not a good idea and along with the hype after blitzing a strong field in US open the lad will find it tough but he's proved he's balls of steal after bouncing back from is first major disaster. I'm on earlier in the year e/w at 16's & 14's and am happy with that but wouldn't rush out to take the current 6's to be totally honest. What ever he does this year i think he will be bigger and stronger next year and fully expect him to take out two majors in 2012! Of the others there is plenty of e/w value to be had Boylesports offering 8 places:loon. Garcia has a chance in fair form got beat in a playoff the other week and currently 28/1 with SJ 6 places also KJ Choi is threatening to win and 50's looks to big and 100/1 + on Stewart Chink looks massive and the young guns are hungry and always a threat but my other two e/w investments with Rory are big mouth IAN POULTER 66's SJ who i wish would do his talking on the golf course rather than the media but he has a chance has shown at time he is capable of winning a major although not often enough he needs to it soon or a major will pass him by imo and his best chance is probably the british open. At the start of the week i took STEVE STRICKER at 40's with PP that has shortened but 40's is still available with some but he looks likely to pick up another winners cheque in the US as i write so will most likely go off shorter. The course should suit Stricker and he is having a good year. Not long to go till kick off can't wait. Good Luck All

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 anyone who saw the excellent bbc documentary last night on Seve will be well set up for this now, last nights story was very moving and the Open played a massive part in the guys career. It really is a great tournament and rates as possibly the main event i would watch in front of anything else given a choice of any other sport i got slagged off last year (only by 1 idiot) for selecting 7 players in the 1st rd leader market but i made it last 2 years running after Jimenez and then Mcilroy last year. I will no doubt have a similar tactic again this year targeting that prize again. plenty of work to do over the next few days to see what value there is out there.

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 SERGIO GARCIA ew 25/1, yeah i know Sergio always fails to deliver in majors but this could well be the one this time, he goes in without the usual pressure on him with McDowell, Donald ,Kaymer, McIlroy and Westwood taking the focus off him and that could be a real bonus for El Nino. His record at the open is,nt too bad indeed he was tied tenth at Sandwich last time round. IF he is putting well a massive if he has the game to win straight off the tee, excellent short game just what links course requires but it is that really short patch of grass with a flag planted in it, where he fails but at Congressional he used the claw grip wheteher you agree witrh the technique or not it worked for Sergio. also this is the first open since Seve's death maybe fate will lead to another Spaniard winning

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 might have a wee punt on woodland at a massive price 200-1 with pp. big hitter with a 60.4% acc. with a pretty good GIR stats too nearly 70%. hes in the top 10 on the pga tour with those stats. his birdies/round is also up there, hes in 38th place on that. going to back bubba watson too at 125's.

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 Jason day at 40/1 @paddypower good each way bet this man seems to excel in majors and has finished runner up in a couple over the last year. Its all about how he starts if he gets a couple of early birdies under his belt he'll keep gettin them over the rest of the open. Also R.fisher at 80/1 @paddypower stood out to me aswell, hes a good british player who you would expect to be used to links golf. saying that actually south African players from my memory are decent link golf players.

Re: Golf: The Open 2011

Not sure will check but i know he is 50/1 to be leader on first round on all 4 majors this year which is massive.
Mmmm maybe not so massive after all available at 11/1 to be 1st rd open leader with PP so you would only need to get 100/30 to be 1st leader of USPGA to beat 50/1 think he would be much bigger than that even if he does lead the open after 18. I have taken a small bit of 11's for interest and will take it from there if need be.

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 i have a list of eleven i would like to whittle down to no more than 8 please help ! garcia 28, rose 50, poulter 66, P hanson 70, mahan 70, jacobsen 75, fowler 80, bubba watson 100, cink 100, overton 110, paul lawrie 150, an interesting stat about Jeff Overton made three out of three cuts and last two opens finished 11th and 7th so has to be value at those odds

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 I've backed 3 on Betfair, looking to lay at some stage or leave them to run if they look promising. Graeme McDowell @ 33/1 Showed some of his top form in his 2nd round in Scotland and has a decent record on these links courses. The spotlight has been taken away from Graeme slighty which could work in his favour. Has been hitting a lot of greens this year. Retief Goosen @ 59/1 Finished 12 under in Scotland for a 14th placed finish last week and his game is in great shape. Retief finished 6th last year with a steady four rounds and he will go well again here in my opinion. Peter Hansen @ 89/1 Hansen has been threatening the top of the leaderboard in the last month or so. He doesn't have much course form just think he will go well around St. Andrews this weekend. Good luck. :ok

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 hello all, mainly a football punter however always have a bet on the majors! quite fancy a few of the outsiders to go well this week, given some of the previous open winners (Curtis, Hamilton). My first pick is Fredrik Andersson Hed (300s Hills) finished with an excellent 62 at Castle Stuart on Sunday and was hitting the ball excellently, some each way value in that price. My second value longer shot pick is Danny Willett (225s Hills) who in 2008 was ranked world number 1 amatuer, has also challenged in some big events including the BMW in 2010 and has a big future ahead of him. My main bet is going to be Jason Day (40s Hills) finishing T2 in both the US Masters and US Open is very good going, he hits the ball a long way and I really fancy him to go well around here and hopefully one better than his last two majors. Either way im sure il have a great weekend watching events unfold. Good luck every one!! :hope

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 And the Hornet Criteria is back for The Open - it's quite difficult to be specific in a tournament where the course changes every year but I've managed to do something...but it has meant that I've basically ignored Ben Curtis and Todd Hamilton as freak winners (which they were, but you'll see what I mean below!)!! Current Hornet Criteria Statistics: Units Bet - 108 Units Won - 154 P/L - 46 ROI - 42.59% The Open Winner Criteria: 1) 18 of the last 19 winners had won in the year of their win or the year before their Open win (exception - Ben Curtis) 2) 20 of the last 21 winners had played in at least 3 Opens prior to their win (exception - Ben Curtis) 3) 14 of the last 15 winners had finished in the top 5 in the year of their win (exception - Ben Curtis) 4) 13 of the last 15 winners had finished in the top 10 at least twice in the year of their win (exceptions - Ben Curtis & Todd Hamilton) 5) 13 of the last 15 winners had finished in the top 25 at least four times in the year of their win (exceptions - Ben Curtis & Todd Hamilton) 6) 14 of last 15 winners had finished in the top 25 in at least one of their last 5 tournaments (exception - Todd Hamilton) 7) 10 of the last 12 winners had been in the top 50 for Driving Distance in the year previous or year of win (exceptions - Ben Curtis & Todd Hamilton) 8) 12 of the las 14 winners had been in the top 30 for putting in the year previous or year of win (exceptions - Ben Curtis & Todd Hamilton) Basically, this profile has picked out 10 of the last 12 winners but not Todd Hamilton or Ben Curtis; however, it would have picked out big priced winners such as Paul Lawrie, Stewart Cink or last years winner Louis Oosthuizen...so fingers crossed the same will happen again!! This has left us with 8 players in the field as follows: Rory McIlroy @ 9 outright BetFred Lee Westwood @ 13 outright BetFred Nick Watney @ 36 ew PaddyPower 7 places Charl Schwartzel @ 46 ew Bet365 6 places Hunter Mahan @ 67 ew BetFred 6 places Robert Karlsson @ 71 ew Bet365 6 places Aaron Baddeley @ 151 ew Bet365 6 places Fredrik Andersson Hed @ 301 ew BetFred 6 places GL :hope

Re: Golf: The Open 2011 I'll throw my pennies worth in: 2 Players i back consistently the last 2 years, Y.E.Yang & M.Mannesaro no real reason for fancying them here as I don't think either has played the course but both are in good form this year are cool under pressure and Yang is a previous major winner, Mannesaro in my eyes is a definite future winner, hopefully this weekend!! Yang is 90/1 with a couple but i've taken Coral as they pay 1/3 odds and pay as a winner if second to Mcilroy but only 5 places. Mannesaro is at 70's with tote but they have very low stake limits so ive taken 66/1 with VCbet 1/4 odds 6 places (Added bonus is i think they still have the hole in one, pay as winner deal, you never know and mannesaro is excellent with his irons!) 1pt EW on each. F.Andersson-Hed mentioned by someone further up and in the 'Hornet criteria', good enough reason on its own, but you can't discount a bloke whose last competitive round 5 days before the off is a 62, -10 on a links course!! 300/1 with Betfred 6 Places. 1pt EW M.Kuchar the new J.Furyk! Always there or thereabouts and a good show at Castle Stuart means he can travel well and play links golf! Mr.consistent should be close and at 40/1 I think he is value. Paddy power 7 places 1/4 odds, 1pt EW. F.Jacobsen is in some good form as he showed at congressional and the tournament after. What I like here is that he finished in the top 10 when the open was last here so hopefully good memories and high confidence can give him a sniff. 90/1 Bet365 6 places 1/4 odds, 1pt EW. Not the best write-up, but i'm at work! Looking forward to the start now! Good luck everyone!
