Tennis - April 4-10

Recommended Posts

After the storm comes the calm. There's two dinky wee 250 events for the men on red clay of Houston and Casablanca, while the women have an international event on the red brick of Marbella and premier event in Charleston, on green clay. For those who like a bit of a Challenger banter, Pereira, Recife and Monza are your destinations this week. Fingers crossed for a profitable week chaps :ok

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 One early for me. (4/10) J.Benneteau to bt. F.Volandri @ 1.83 at Bet365 I will take this one now and worry about the rest later. This is not really a bet for Benneteau, but against Volandri. I know that Volandri beat Julien 6-2 6-0 in Rome last year, but I would ignore that. If you have seen Volandri's match today, you know what I am coming from. He is horrible at the moment, had some injury worries and if a youngster can beat him in the finals of an Italian challenger, Benneteau can surely do the same.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 See where your coming from but on clay, Benneteau is always capable of a shocking performance. Way out of his comfort zone when I saw him briefly last year on the clay courts. Really tempted to take Riba @ 1.8 but he's been dismal in recent weeks.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Hi guys, 2 picks for the Charleston tournament starting today: WTA: MATTEK TO DEFEAT STEVENSON BY 2:0 SETS @ 1.6 expekt WTA: MORITA TO DEFEAT LUCIC @ 1.35 expekt Stevenson was a good player some 10 years ago, Mattek is a very good player now. Lucic (similarly to Stevenson actually) had a good attacking game, but should make too many unforced errors on clay court against a very consistent Morita. [url=http://www.winningtipster.com/]

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Some intriguing matches in the WTA, will take my chances for smaller stakes. (3/10) E.Vesnina (-4) to bt. R.Marino @ 1.90 at Pinnacle Vesnina is the much better player here, Marino wins a lot of matches only in lesser tournaments. Think she will want to improve her poor start to the season and she showed she is capable of producing good stuff against by winning against Wickmayer in Miami. Should have too much for the Canadian in the end imo. (3/10) Ch.Scheepers (+4) to bt. P.Schnyder @ 1.84 at Pinnacle Schnyder with some off-court problems concerning her finances, Scheepers improving constantly. Can see this going to the distance or even Scheepers win. She covered the handicap against Schnyder in the same tournament last year and she has improved, while Schnyder has not.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Nothing for me today. Close to taking Riba for the win, Martic on the handicap and the unders in Cirstea-Errani affair but decided against them all in the end. Not keen on the clay tournament early rounds. Have taken one outright though, which I've got a feeling IAG will disagree with ;) Shahar Peer to win Charleston- 33/1 Bet365- (0.5/10 E/W) Of course Shahar is an outsider but certainly not a 33/1 shot in my books. We saw examples last year of how much her game has come on when playing on the slow clay courts and she can trouble anyone in the world on her day. She was 12-4 overall on clay with the only opponents who beat her were Henin and the dreaded Williams sisters. However, all 3 of those are absent and there isn't a player in the draw who she can't match on the clay courts. Although her best results generally come on hard, or me clay suits her perfectly as it allows her to build points and outlast her opponents on the big points. That extra pace that she generates on the ball to suprise her opponent is complimented well also with the clay. Going back to the draw then, who is she likely to face? Well she's got an extra day to prepare as she is the 5th seed for the tournament which will benefit her I think as she was off in her match in Miami, meaning she should be fresh to go this week. Second round opponents either Arvidsson or Cornet, most likely the latter, but it's always a mystery with her. Regardless of who it is between those two, Peer should cruise through. 100% record against both, Cornet both times in straight sets so the third round should be pretty straight forward for the Israeli. After that looks to be Goerges waiting for her which under normal circumstances could be a tricky one but the German has lost to some pretty average opponents this season, even on her preferred clay surface so Peer should be too good for her in that one. If she wins both of those she should have picked up some confidence from losing her last 2 matches and she'll need that confidence against Stosur in the quarters. Was tempted to take Stosur for the outright and to retain her title as well but it's a bit too low for me and her form isn't nearly as good as it was 12 months ago. Sharapova beat her last week and before that she was done by Safina. Peer is the sort of player that Stosur struggles with as she'll be able to cope with Stosur's power and cleverly get herself back into the rallies. We can see this as Peer has won 2/3 on clay against Stosur and if they were both playing at the top of their game of clay, I'd give the slight edge to Peer so I'd fancy Stosur to struggle in that one. That's the only opponent on her side of the draw that could really trouble her if she's playing well. If she gets to the semis, not fussed about who she has. Probably one of Peng, Bartoli or Petrova and you'd fancy Peer against any of those 3 on clay. H2H is in her favour against Peng and Bartoi, Petrova could be tricky but she retired from her match last week so there's some concerns over her this week. Her run in to the final doesn't look terrible and at 33/1, any show in the final would get a tidy return. Would also be a chance to lay her in the semis if it came to it. Final opponent for her if she gets there? Jankovic, Wickmayer or Wozniacki most likely but really don't know about that side of the draw. If peer got there it's a one off match anyway so she'd obviously have a chance with the form she'd be in if she does get to that final. Think it will be between her and Stosur tbh, and due to the price, can't not take it.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Hi guys, 1 pick for the Houston ATP tournament: DEVVARMAN TO KENDRICK BY 2:0 SETS @ 1.87 betfair Kendrick got injured last week at Miami and he is past his best at 31 years old anyways. Devvarman has great return of serve and solid baseline game against Kendrick who hates to play on clay courts.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Grand Prix Hassan II R1 Berrer (GER) to bt Devilder (FRA) @2,160 Pinnacle Don't know much about Devilder, beside the fact that he is challenger level clay specialist, but this man is ranked #377 and last time he won ATP main draw match was in 2009 Wimbledon round 1 with Lapentti. I do not get how on earth he could be a fav in this match, unless Misha Berrer is on a wheelchair. Berrer does not play much on clay, and in 2010 he lost on clay to Seppi,Greul,Fish,Cilic and Hanescu, but he did beat Monaco and Korolev on clay in Monte Carlo exactly 1 year ago. IMO definitely worth a try.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Not keen on clay tennis tbh but will have a couple today involving the women. Considered Devvarman on handicap but haven't seen him play on clay before so left that well alone. Shahar Peer vs Sofia Arvidsson- Peer -4.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (6/10) Spoke about Shahar in my reasoning for the outright and she shouldn't have any problems in the early rounds. Granted she had a poor result over in Miami but due to her early exit, she has had plenty of time to rest and recover for the clay court season where as I've mentioned, she could do some real damage. Last year in her 4 clay tournaments, she beat players such as Li Na, Safina, Mattek-Sands and Radwanska, all players a class above her opponent today. Arvidsson hasn't really got going this year at all, failing to get past the second round in any tournament. Lost to Bondarenko and Stevenson this year, two players she should definitely be beating comfortably. Mattek-Sands easily beat her over in Miami a couple of weeks back and Peer these days is on another level to the American. Suprised she beat the mentally weak Cornet yesterday. Despite the victory, Cornet actually won more points overall and it was only due to her poor break point conversion stats that she didn't win the match. 9/14 it stood at, Peer won't let her off like Cornet did. They met once before where Peer covered the handicap in 3 sets back in 08, she's a better player now at a 4.5 handicap seems well within her range. Andrea Hlavackova vs Barbora Zahlavova Strycova- Strycova -5.5 handicap- 5/6 Bet365- (4/10) Quite a big handicap this one but still feel it's achievable for the Czech. She's a pretty handy player on the clay courts as shown last year from her final appearence in Prague whilst her fellow countrywomen and opponent has been in poor form in the last couple of months. Losses in the qualifiers and first rounds hasn't allowed her to get into any sort of routine or form and I just see her not being able to cope with Strycova today who has beaten some good opponents this year. One H2H, which Strycova covered the handicap in, one comfortable set should be good enough for the handicap.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Riba-Madrid (vs Golubev) @ 2.8 (Pinnacle) - stake 4/10 Riba-Madrid (vs Golubev) (+3.5) @ 1.813 (Pinnacle) - stake 6/10 Two out of form players, but seems to me odds are set up wrong. Golubev had some decent performances last year of clay (although he prefers hard), but start of the year was pretty horrible for him. He even got bageled by Dodig on hard 2 weeks ago. Riba ain't much different, trying to adapt to ATP major events ain't easy, he should try these 250 events to make some impact. Riba is a clay court specialist, and taking in account their form, looks like a decent value on him. Played a decent match agaisnt Huta-Galung in first round, ofered no break points. Just can't see Golubev destroying him here.

WIN LOSS Easy for Shahar as expected. Strycova took the first set easy enough and had chances in the second but only just scraped through in a final set tie break. Minimal profit overall though.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Hi guys, 1 more pick for the Houston ATP tournament: SWEETING TO QUERREY @ 2.51 pinnaclesports Those odds are surely wrong and will come down on Sweeting. I am not sure why Querrey is a favorite in this match at all - Sweeting is actually in a better form and is looking a better player this year. He has great return of serve to neutralize Querrey's big serve. Sweeting defeated Querrey just a month ago in Delray Beach on hard court and on clay his chances at least 50%.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Couple of bets catch my eye for today, although I'm keeping things light. Going to have a nibble on Jeremy Chardy in Casablanca, who takes on Pablo Andujar. Chardy has been rotten on the hard courts but plays on a surface he enjoys in clay and gets the best out of him. Destroyed Jurgen Melzer on the clay in Davis Cup a few weeks back and took care on Bjorn Phau easily in R1. With a bit of confidence behind him, he can be a top 40 player on this surface. Andujar is also adept on the red brick, but is too patchy and doesn't have a big weapon to get him out of trouble. JEREMY CHARDY -1.5 GAMES looks decent, taking a chance on the big Frenchman kicking on here. I also think the bookies are overestimating Andrey Golubev, who takes on Pere Riba, also in Casablanca. Golubev has done nothing this year. Completely bombed on hard and I'd say indoors is his best surface. Has won a clay title in Hamburg last year so that has to be respected, but this is his first match on the dirt and really hasn't impressed me in first part of the year. Riba took care of Jesse Huta Galung in R1 and is a dirt rat, a man who revels on clay. He's a handy player, and won't go down without a fight. Conditions suit him here and he may have an edge having played on the courts competitively before. PERE RIBA +3 GAMES seems very generous, I expect the Spaniard to keep it tight. Selections: Jeremy Chardy -1.5 games AH @ 2.05 with Pinnacle 1pt Pere Riba +3 games AH @ 1.92 with 188bet 1pt :hope

Re: Tennis - April 4-10

Sport Tennis
Event Andrey Golubev - Pere Riba
Selection Pere Riba
Strength 10/10
Date 06/04/2011
Bookmaker/Price Unibet @ 2.52
Reasoning Fairly balanced game in the second round at ATP Casablanca between Andrey Golubev and Pere Riba. Golubev is a big-server player who is doing much better on hard court than on clay. He prefers to play indoor hard, where he can value his service-vole game. Andrey Golubev has 3 victories in this season: two victories in Davis Cup and the last one against Florian Mayer in the first round at Indian Wells. Now he plays his first match on clay after 9 months; Golubev was embarassed last week by a left knee injury durig his match against Ivan Dodig. The Kazac player was strong in the first set, and won the tie-break, but then he get injuried and he was defeated in that one with 6-7, 6-4, 6-0. Pere Riba is a clay court specialist, with good results achieved last season on this surface, in challenger tournaments. Pere Riba played a good match against Jesse Huta Galung yesterday, in the first round here at ATP Casablanca tournament. He served very well, moving good on the court.. I like the underdog here. Pere Riba is the better player on this surface and he can win this game.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 WTA Marabella R2 Szavay (HUNGARY) vs Kuznetsova (RUS) Selection : Szavay @Pinnacle 1,855 (2u) Svetlana has been awful against Barthel in round 1, and should IMO be destroyed by Agneska, who had an easy walkover against Johanna Larsson in R1. H2H is 4-0 for Svetlana, but all matches were on hard, and Szavay is much better on clay. WTA Marabella R1 Parra-Santonja (ESP) vs Azarenka (BLR) Selection: Parra-Santonja @Pinnacle 4,21 (1u) Parra-Santonja plays at home, clay is her favourite surface and she has already been in a WTA final this year - in Acapulco - where she lost in a tight match against Dulko. On the other hand Azarenka just defended the title in Miami and should not care much about the result here, does not play much on clay and is known to produce a lot of unpredictable results lately. IMO worth a shot.

Sport Tennis
Event Tennis - To Win Outright - ATP - Houston
Selection Ivo Karlovic (Each-way)
Strength 5/10
Date 06/04/2011
Bookmaker/Price Bet365 @ 10.00
Reasoning Ivo Karlovic has won four ATP singles titles: three in 2007 and one in 2008. First he won in Houston in 2007. Karlovic is considered one of the best servers on tour. He is serving great in Houston: against Stuart Kenyon - 9 aces, 0 double faults, 1st Serve Percentage 59% (19/32), 1st Serve Points Won 95% (18/19), 2nd Serve Points Won 77% (10/13); against Jose Acasuso - 29 aces (!), only 4 double faults, 1st Serve Percentage 59% (55/93), 1st Serve Points Won 91% (50/55), 2nd Serve Points Won 63% (24/38); against Donald Young - 12 aces (!), 0 double faults, 1st Serve Percentage 67% (35/52), 1st Serve Points Won 89% (31/35), 2nd Serve Points Won 59% (10/17). Ivo Karlovic's first serve look inconceivably! Karlovic is in great shape. He feels very good on this surface - won this tournament in 2007. Karlovic is really hard to break - I don't see many break points for his opponents. He can holding serve without many problems and waiting for rivals's bad moments on the serve. In my opinion can win ATP Title in Houston. Odd is fantastic!

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Final one for today. I'd been waiting for the handicap on VICTOR HANESCU to creep up and it eventually has, to -3 games at 1.901. Think Hanescu can take care of his German opponent, Michael Berrer. He beat Nicolas Devilder yesterday but it was a poor match, plenty of errors. Berrer isn't really a clay courter. He's happier indoors and I think his only match-up against Hanescu, a defeat which covered this line, shows that he struggles against the Romanian. Hanescu got to the final last year so has lots to defend. He's not in the best form but gutsed it out against Daniel Gimeno-Traver and can kick on. He needs to go deep in this tournament, and I reckon he can do that against Berrer in these conditions. Selection: Victor Hanescu -3 games AH @ 1.901 with Pinnacle 2.5pts :hope

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Two for me today. Looking to take overs in the Karlovic match but price is too short now so just taking the two. Andrey Kuznetsov vs Marcos Baghdatis- Kuznetsov +3.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (6/10) More of a bet against Baghdatis than anything here. He's struggled recently, think he was claiming he had flu or something but that doesn't hide the fact that he was horrible against Rochus and Golubev, whilst he conceded against Devvarman. If it was flu he was suffering from, he should be over it, but as we know with Baggy, things seem to linger on more with him than the average man. Add to this he hasn't played on clay for the Davis Cup like he usually does, he will take some time adapting to the slower conditions. Kuznetsov is no mug either. Up and coming youngster, who has played a lot of tennis on clay this year and won all of his 4 matches in Casablanca without dropping a set. He has a decent serve on him and I'd fancy him to keep it tight for the majority and if Baggy goes missing for some time, he may be able to pinch a set which could see the handicap covered. No way I can favour the Cypriot in any way, shape or form here. One on the women's side as well. Dinara Safina vs Tsvetana Pironkova- Safina -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (4/10) Think this is the right time to start backing Safina again. She was horrible at the start of the year and for much of last season as well but it looks like she's getting her confidence back gradually. Good wins over Hantuchova, Stosur and Dokic in the past few weeks has shown signs that she is finding her feet again on the tour and she can start to think about climbling the rankings. Saw her yesterday against Rus and she was a touch nervy in the first set but then found her feet and she dominated from there and should have taken the third set much more comfortably. Only 5 Dfs and 4 aces are a pretty decent stat for Safina who can be DF prone as much as Sharapova. Pironkova yesterday had a first serve percenatage of 43 yesterday which is poor by any players standards. I know this may not be telling but if she repeats this today, Safina is one of the players who will completely nail her returns with her power and win the point. Granted she may be wild and erratic at times, but if she's playing with some confidence, she can hit the ball as sweet as any player in the WTA. Taking the risk on her today having her serve in place and not giving up if the slightest things go against her. She's covered the handicap in both meetings between the two players so let's hope she can make it 3rd time lucky.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10

Event Dinara Safina - Tsvetana Pironkova
Selection Tsvetana Pironkova
Strength 10/10
Date 06/04/2011
Bookmaker/Price Pinnacle Sports @ 3.25
Reasoning Dinara Safina vs Tsvetana Pironkova, a very-balanced second-round match at the WTA Marbella. Dinara Safina - a former world No 1 is now ranked #81 on the tour. The start of the year was pretty horrible for her. Safina had six defeats in a row including here a 6-0, 6-0 defeat when she played against Kim Clijsters in the first round in Melbourne. Bad results led her to think of an eventual withdrawal from WTA-tour, but she found the strenght to go on, though everything seems to go against her! Safina is trying to recover slowly the form that estabilished her some years ago, but still has a lot of work to do this. At least at the psihically level, because after so many failures and dissapointments, she is very vulnerable. Safina had a tough match yesterday against Arantxa Rus, but the experience made the difference in favour of her. Tsvetana Pironkova looked very good yesterday in the first round, here at WTA Marbella. She moved really well on the court, serving excellent and pushing from de behind, with her forehand. Pironkova is a decent top 30 player, who is playing her best tennis on clay-court. It will be a very tough battle between Safina and Pironkova, and I fancy a lot the underdog in this one. I see great value in Pironkova's odds for a win against Safina.

WIN WIN Such a messy match between Kuznetsov and Baghdatis, in the third set nobody could hold serve and I thought the youngster would blow the handicap. Safina looked impressive after getting broken in the first game of the match. Good day today though. :ok

Parra was a shot anyway, but Szavay was bad luck as she turned out to have health problems during the second set. 3u down today. But I will go against Kuzzy the next round again.

Re: Tennis - April 4-10 Zeballos to beat Isner (4/10) 2.12 @pinnacle I can´t see Isner as a favourite in this match. He is not having the season he expected and i don´t think he can discover his best game playing on clay. He is not as tough as he used to be last season and this first matches on clay i think he will be very vulnerable. Zeballos on the other hand is a very irregular player but has played a lot in clay and can adapt his game to this surface much easier than the big american. No big stakes as the argentinian is very irregular but definately worthy a try at this odds. :hope
