    Dagenham & Redbridge v Wrexham

This is the live BT Sport game on Saturday and after Dagenham winning for us last week I am backing them again. Bar the blip against Chester Dagenham have looked pretty good albeit against some of the lesser sides in the division. On paper Wrexham will be a tougher test, but they haven't been performing that well and Gary Mills seems to be getting angry with the local press which is always a sign a manager is under pressure. At a shade of odds against they are just the right side of value.

    Maidstone v Forest Green Rovers

Speaking of teams getting angry with local papers FGR's chairman Dale Vince has banned the local paper from attending their next game after a story he didn't like went in the paper. Given the manager Mark Cooper has already had a go at a journalist they seem under the cosh already. They were lucky to get 3 points against York last week and although they have won their last 3 they haven't convinced at all. Maidstone will be a tough test on the 3G pitch and they put up a good fight against Tranmere last week. At 3/1 with Coral they seem a sporting bet.

    Southport v Tranmere

Southport have been pretty bad so far and it would be a surprise if Tranmere didn't continue their 100% start to the season. They have been impressive and have already gone pretty short for the title. There looks to be decent value in backing them on the -1 handicap at 21/10 with Paddy Power and William Hills.

    Torquay v Dover

I thought Torquay might build on last season's miracle escape, but they haven't really and have looked pretty lacklustre so far this season. Dover on the other-hand are looking like they might repeat last season's exploits and bar a 4-1 defeat to Boreham Wood have a good set of results. At 27/20 they look value to get another 3 points.

    Boston v Kidderminster

Boston have been pretty bad so far this season bar a 3-0 win over Tamworth. I'm surprised they are doing as badly as they are and they were pretty woeful last Saturday. They have a fairly big injury list at the moment which won't be helping and with Kidderminster getting off to a cracking start they look the right side of value at a shade of odds against to win again.

    Harrogate v Nuneaton

The away side have got only a point so far and have been surprisingly bad. I opposed them last week with Salford and given Harrogate have taken 11 points from their first two games they look worth opposing again at a shade of odds on.

    Cinderford v Basingstoke

I was a bit surprised Cinderford managed to win their second game of the season, but they have lost their other 4 including 5-0 to a pretty poor Biggleswade side last week. As I put in the first preview of the season Cinderford are likely to really struggle this season given the lack of money and the lack of players good enough to compete in this division. Basingstoke are full time with mainly a young side under Terry Brown and it looked like the policy wasn't working as they didn't win any of their first four games. However they got an impressive 3-0 victory over Kettering last Saturday and they have every chance of kicking on from that. It would be very disappointing if they didn't outclass Cinderford and they look the best bet of the day at 19/20 with Marathon.

    Crikey, that's good going!!!!

Gateshead, Maidstone, Dover and Dagenham 4 fold tomorrow.

Rotherham United v Brentford 6/4, Rotherham are leaking goals like a sieve and Brentford have won their last two league games, although there is a question mark over their away form having lost both games on the road so far but Rotherham just seem totally clueless, they have conceded 13 in 4 games, winning none and drawing 1, even the most optimistic Rotherham fan must be reaching for the bottle and fearing the worst. Easy win for Brentford here. Brentford are a decent team and will be looking to build on there 2 back to back victories, which I think they will.

Reading v Brighton & HA 23/20......are Sky bet really offering them at 23/20? I think that's pretty generous. Reading have made a very inauspicious start and Brighton are flying. The facts point to an away win here

Bolton Wanderers evs v Fleetwood Town....What can we say, totally clueless last season but Phil Parkinson has turned these guys around and have recorded 9 out of 9 so far. Hard to see Fleetwood stopping them tomorrow, although Fleetwood are still unbeaten but not sure they'll have enough to stop Bolton.

Hartlepool United 7/5 v Notts County....risky one but Notts County have had a terrible start and Hartlepool have made an okish start, I like a risky one, might mess up my acca but I fancy Pool's on this one.

Hope I have more luck than last week, just one winner out of 4, hoping for more this weekend.

Can we have a 'turd' emoticon please.....for my selections??

Only one winner out of the 4....second week running.

  4. God what an awful weekend betting wise. Nowhere near.

Advice on backing Newcastle after attending the Newcastle Huddersfield game today. They've now lost 2 on the spin and I'll be honest, they do not look very good, they look extremely pedestrian and teams will stop them playing, like we did yesterday. I wouldn't back them until they start showing some form, just the fact of them 'being Newcastle' will not win them games.

  5. Still no form but after a poor midweek on the cup ties, I'll give it another go!!

Going to keep it sensible again,

Derby 21/20 at Barnsley, despite Barnsley having a spirited showing at Ipswich they followed that up with a 2-1 home defeat against Northampton in the cup. Derby will be in the top 6 and I can see them following up their 0-0 draw with Brighton with a win today.

Gillingham 23/20 at home to Bury, strange start to the season for Gillingham, both their games have been against Southend, at Roots Hall and they have won both 3-1, after going behind in both games!! I think Bury will have a decent season but I can't see them winning here today. Gillingham all the way.

Peterborough 6/4 at home to Bradford. Peterborough have been amongst the goals in their 2 games, 6 in 2, where as Bradford have scored 0 in their 2 so far, although they haven't conceded either.

Coventry 23/20 take on Shrewsbury at home. Expecting a bit better from Coventry this season, Shrewsbury are no great shakes and I would them to struggle. Coventry recorded a good win in midweek in tough game against  Portsmouth and I know Shrewsbury beat a Championship side in the cup, they were outplayed for most of it (oh boy do I know they beat a Championship team, my team.) and didn't make a good start in the league with defeat to MK Dons.

All the best for today, lets hope to post some winners today.

Hell of a call on that result mate. I have to admit when I saw the Villa side and they started the way they did I thought you were going to be in for a long night but the Hatters came through. Well done! Your next tips please? *gets notepad and pen ready*

I should add that I am a Cardiff fan and I am backing us to get a win tonight. Bristol Rovers are a good team but under Trollope we are looking so organised and we have a number of players on the fringes keen to stamp their mark down on the team. Just some players that should be involved tonight include Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson, winger Craig Noone, and the experienced Stuart O'Keefe. Trollope could give a few of the talented youngsters a go too such as Tommy O'Sullivan, Semi Ajayi, and David Tutonda.

It's been a bad week for the Championship clubs in this cup, mine and yours team go out.

This is my first post, although I have been reading PL for a few years now. Generally I find it excellent and if if it wasn't for Adpea, I would have had a poor season last season ( Thanks Adpea)

    So first post... Here goes...

I grew up in the Oak Rd terrace at Keilworth Rd, and the "Old Lady" will be rocking tonight in the League cup.

The Villa players won't be used to grounds like this, noisy, intimidating & close to the pitch. The crowd will play a huge part tonight, definitely the 12th man.

I have been a Brighton season ticket holder since the Amex was built, and had been very impressed with Nathan Jones during his time at the Abion. I was delighted when he decided to take over at Luton, and his arrival made a big impact on the style of football. He has made 2 excellent signings from Brighton in Chris Walton (England U19 keeper) & Glen Rea, a highly rated defensive player form the development squad.

To go to Plymouth on the first day of this season and win 3-0 is a phenomenal result. Nathan will want to keep momentum going upwards, so should field a strong side tonight.

Di Matteo will be desperate for a win to kick start the season for Villa, but he will be more focused on keeping his best players fit for the league.

A Kenilworth Rd cup tie, under lights, against a team on the slide, has all the ingredients to make me feel optimistic about tonight.

    Gone for

    1 untit - Luton Town +1 AH @ 1.96

    9.60 - Luton to win @ 3.95

    COYH

So why are you a season ticket holder at Brighton now?? Big no no that in my book, changing your team.

A standout for me is Nottingham Forest to beat Doncaster.  There is a lot of young talent in this Forest side and Montanier will want to do well in the cups.

I have to disagree with the Mansfield pick above.  Although Blackburn had a shocker on Saturday they were playing a strong Norwich side.  I think Blackburn will be desperate to get a win for Coyle so will be approaching this game in a determined mood.

So double Forest & Blackburn with Skybet @ 3.62/1

I take my hat off to you on this one, called the Blackburn one right, Forest leave it late though.

    Fair play mate.

    Nice calls from you....

I will look for following bet, but i will wait for more Infos.

For me Luton can win against Aston Villa. Luton with 3-0 away win against Plymouth and in a Home Game and one more day off, then Villa i think they can grab something from it. But i will look first of all Villa´s performance today against Sheffield.

Yeah I looked at this, be interesting to see how Villa go today, currently drawing 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday. Luton could be well worth a look at, heavily fancied this time, I've had them in my 'lucky 15'. I'm not sure how Villa are going to perform this season if I'm honest. I wouldn't put you off backing Luton though.

  10. Just also one more that catches my eye, Mansfield at home to Blackburn, they are offering Mansfield at 11/4 against what looks like a really poor Blackburn outfit, they'll be smarting will Blackburn after being 3-0 down after 25 minutes on Saturday and losing 4-1. Whether Mansfield are good enough to beat Blackburn remains to be seen but I would say 11/4 is a really good price. Blackburn will be desperate for a result to put things right but I just wonder.

  11. After a successful start to the season with a 4 fold win yesterday, it's onto Tuesday for the League Cup ties.

Still no form to speak off but a few prices are catching my eye already on these games, all depends on team changes though.

Barnsley evs at home to Northampton, Barnsley put up a good show at Ipswich and at evens at home against a team from the league below? Rotherham 11/20 at home to Morecambe. Morecambe are in for a massive struggle and although Rotherham are no great shakes, I would imagine they'd have enough in the tank to see them off over 90 minutes. Bristol City evs at Wycombe, again, a team from two divisions higher being offered at evs? Bristol City are a decent side despite struggling last season I would expect them to be much better this season round. Fulham 6/5 at Leyton Orient, again, two divisions separate these two, Fulham aren't that bad and have just beaten Newcastle. Think Leyton Orient will have a decent season but not sure they'll have enough to beat Fulham.

    Barnsley evs

    Rotherham 11/20

    Bristol City evs

    Fulham 6/5

A few others, 3 away's which look decent prices and after two of them enjoyed decent wins at the weekend and one against a team that look really under prepared for the new season, according to my work colleague anyway, who is a season ticket holder at Boundary Park. Going to go with two of my selections that delivered on Saturday.

    Huddersfield 6/5

Wigan Athletic 19/20 (you can evs elsewhere on this)

    Millwall 6/5

Think the bookies are being generous with some of these prices, things might change and some teams reigned in after the weekends results.

Really good odds for a four fold there Kenton. Huddersfield dividing opinion the floor. Some really backing them to progress well this year with the signings they've made but others thinking it won't work. I also think those odds on a Norwich victory at Blackburn are decent. Blackburn being one of my tips to struggle. You didn't fancy pushing it and adding a fifth in there did you?

Trying to keep it sensible, still we seem some form.

A good start though, a return on the first day of the season!!

Norwich were too good not to back at that price, Blackburn are going down, I said that before the season started and today has just confirmed my suspicions.

The Forest result was closer than I expected and when we (Huddersfield) conceded an equalizer in the 79th minute, I thought my bet was blown but we re-took the lead almost immediately.

Great start to the season betting wise.

  13. I guess you can't look beyond the usual suspects. I have no doubt Newcastle will be there, probably Champions, I note they have made one or two good signings already.

Not sure on Villa they were terrible last season but Di Matteo is a top manager. It might take him time to turn it round but by Christmas I would imagine they'll still be in touch ready to make a dash for promotion in the New Year.

Again, I would expect Sheffield Wednesday to maintain last season's play off campaign and be up there.

Other than that it's pretty wide open, it's whoever can remain consistent over the duration of the season. The division has become so competitive it's hard to pick anyone on a weekly basis. A dark horse for me would be Brentford, made some astute signings already and with the return of Scott Hogan from long term injury towards the end of last season and his glut of goals, I wouldn't be surprised to see them claim a play off place again like they did a few years ago.

That's the thing though. It's a huge gamble. He's signing players who are not experienced in the Championship. I actually have a soft spot for Huddersfield (first team I ever managed on the old Championship Manager!). I will say La Parra and Stankovic look like quality signings but then La Parra was cast aside by a Wolves team that performed very averagely last season due to his lack of consistency. I just think the squad needs such an overhaul you could be in trouble unless the new signings all click. I certainly hope I am wrong and you are right.

Blackburn are a good tip for relegation actually. Can never tell if Owen Coyle is going to do a great job or a dreadful one! He's never average.

Yeah, that is a worry that a lot of these players are unknown but German club football is not that much different to ours and I'm sure Wagner knows them.

I agree over Van la Parra, I was disappointed by him if I'm honest when we had him on loan last season but again Wagner has the ability to get average players playing well.

Overall, I'm quietly confident about our chances and i'my fancying us for a top 10 finish.

As for the rest of the division, no doubt the usual suspects will be kicking about. Newcastle will no doubt be there. Not sure what to make on Villa, not sure how they'll adapt as they were pretty awful last season. I would expect Sheffield Wednesday to be up there too after their decent season last term.

  15. You are so far wide of the mark for my team to get relegated, Huddersfield. You clearly are not following our signings during pre-season. I'm more inclined to say we will be the surprise package than be anywhere near relegation. What are you basing your prediction on?

The manager David Wagner is a canny operator and has signed a lot of German players, he knows the Bundesliga's inside out having worked at Borussia Dortmund with Klopp for many years. I might be wrong but I don'the think any of his signings from Germany are mugs and come April/May time I'd be very surprised to see us at the wrong end of the table. I might be getting carried away but genuinely mate, I'm pretty sure we will be nowhere near the relegation spots.

If you want a good tip for relegation, look no further than Blackburn Rovers.

  16. Tricky set of fixtures to predict tonight.

Brentford appear to be the form team with 4 straight wins but take on Hull who are equally as in form and appear to be fairly solid away from home. i can't separate these two at the minute. Lee Carsley is doing a great job in the role of caretaker at Brentford, nor have they conceded in 3 either and at 19/10 are they too good a price not to back?

Another team who are nicely priced tonight are Birmingham City at home to Blackburn Rovers. The Blues seem to have hit the buffers lately losing their last two games against Wolves and Hull, both toughish fixtures but Blackburn are not in the same category as either of them two, true Blackburn won at Leeds being 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes but Leeds are in dire straights at the minute, in addition to that it was their first win on the road this season where they have accumulated 5 points and scored 6 goals. Home win here, thing Birmingham will have too much for them here.

    Brentford/Birmingham double 7/1
