What worries me about asking trainers before races is that they might know about their own horse but they don't know about all the other runners !
I think it might be more the lazy presenter questions that annoy me.......the sort of 'what's the plan now'? question where every trainer just says 'oh, we'll get him home and have a look at and have a word with the owner'
    I mean, what's the point !

Of course ITV have lost the Champions League so maybe they're casting round for some sport to show and they seem to gradually moving ITV4 into a Sports station, although limited by the fact that they don't have much sport to show. So I could see them being interested in lining up some racing for ITV4
As RUK keep telling us......they are owned by the tracks they cover so I wouldn't have thought there's any incentive for any of those tracks to let ITV cover meetings unless it's some kind of recorded highlights show in the evening
I'm not that fussed myself.......I usually just stick RUK on in the afternoon in the winter but I'm not really watching and in summer I'll watch cricket, cycling etc and just flick over for any race that I want to watch
the presenters mean nothing to me.........Vienna !

    3.05 Asc - Fascinating Rock - win at 16/1 bog bet365
Champion Stakes - group one 10f
Over the last few years the older horses have dominated this race.......I suppose there might be a logic in that the top class 3yo have probably been on the go since the Guineas and Derby/Oaks trials in the spring which is a long season for young horses
The favourite is Jack Hobbs......he's won the Irish Derby and been beaten in the Derby and Dante. He's only been beaten by Golden Horn so he's probably pretty good and has been given a long break with just a easy run out at Kempton to tick him over. Probably ought to be favourite but there is a doubt over him coming back in trip as well as the long season
My selection is a 4yo who has won 4 times at group 3 level but been beaten when stepping up to higher grades. That is obviously a worry but on the plus side he ran the best race of his career last time out and might now be on an upward curve. I get the impression he was very highly regarded as a younger horse but never quite fulfilled his potential at 3. This looks to be his trip and his ground and he has a terrific turn of foot

4.25 Carl - By The Boardwalk - win at 7/4 bog wm hill
    Handicap chase
My selection is very much a chaser on the upgrade having won 3 of his last 4 outings and would probably have won the other one if he hadn't have fallen
They gave him a break after that spill and he appears to have gotten over it as he reappeared with an effortless 9L win at Ayr
Up 34lbs since his winning run began but I don't think the handicapper has got him yet
Best RH, has won on stiff tracks, good going and class 3
Second favourite, Enchanted Garden, looks a doubtful stayer to me and is stepping up in trip on a stiff track
Loose Chips comes here after a break and usually needs a run to put him straight
Straidnahanna could be the main danger as he doesn't look badly weighted on his novice form but he also returns from a break having been well beaten on previous seasonal debuts and he might be best going LH on soft ground
I'd be surprised if my horse doesn't go off much shorter than the currently available 7/4

My selection looked an exciting prospect last season and went off favourite for the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham. Ran OK finished 3rd of 18 beaten 2 lengths. The ground was against him that day as they feel he's a better horse on better ground which he gets today
Ran well on seasonal debut last season so not worried about him needing a run
My main worry is that they're using this as a prep for this years Paddy Power and he might not be given a hard ride.

I suppose that's one advantage of betting in a betting shop.......if your winner is subsequently disqualified you've got your money in your pocket and you're half way home
Of course, you've got to live with the guilty conscience.......

Towc 3.25 - Serenity Now - win at 3/1 bog ladbrokes
    Class 3 handicap hurdle
The current favourite, Argot, comes from the Longsdon yard and his runners are always poor value at tis time of year as they tend to backed whatever as he's got the reputation of being an early season trainer. Of course they still win races and this one won last time out at Plumpton.
Plumpton and Towcester are very different and it remains to be seen how he handles a stiff track having won over no further than 6 furlongs on the flat and on a sharp track over sticks
My selection looks more of a stayer having won over 14 furlongs on the flat and over 20 furlongs at Hexham. He was beaten just over a length off this mark on his return to hurdles last time out and I'm taking him to outstay the favourite up the hill.

The thing is though that next year there'll be another top miler and the year after that there'll be another one, Gleneagles will fade down the pecking order just in the natural course of things whereby this year's 'best horse ever' overshadows last year's 'best horse ever' and so on..........Gleneagles is in danger of just being remembered as 'the non runner'

Looks fantastic if all the main players turn up Good to see Cirrus des Aigles there - first run in Ireland ? As to how it's viewed over here I'd say that the Irish St Leger is of little interest and has lost any meaning since it was opened to older horses..........it'll certainly be massively overshadowed by the Doncaster race, which in itself is of little relative importance in the grand scheme of things. The other group one races look fantastic.......the Moyglare and National are viewed as the best two Irish 2yo races and given that Ireland usually wins our Guineas will probably provide the winter favourites for the 1000 and 2000 gns The Matron and Irish Champion are very dependent on who runs.......there's a lot of group one races over that trip for older horses and all the top horses can avoid each other if they want..........this year both races look terrific if the principals turn up

Ling 2.00 - Marshall Dan Troop - win at 11/1 bog wm hill 2yo maiden over 6f on heavy ground My selection has looked like a stayer on his two outings to date and if this becomes a stamina test in heavy ground he could be running at the finish Not a bad draw with a couple of the non runners between him and the rail, he be well placed if he gets away OK Trainer Chapple-Hyam's last 3 runners have won including two 2yo

2.35 Good - Rene Mathis - win at 20/1 bog wm hill Big handicap with lots of runners, class 2, 7F My selection spends his time running in these big class 2 handicapsso doesn't win very often as they are incredibly competitive. However he wins every now and then, acts of the track and the ground and is well drawn. Only a couple of pounds higher than last win which was by a length so mark looks OK. Well drawn in the low stalls

Sand 3.30 - Dessertforlife - ew at 22/1 bog wm hill Listed race for 2yo over 7f My selection appears to be the Johnston second string as the outsider of the field and with his other runner currently race favourite However Fanning is on this one and he ran OK in the Chesham at Royal Ascot to finish 6th after being a bit stranded in a small far side group of horses The other runner, Fireglow, finished 4th at Royal Ascot but might have been flattered by running through beaten horses going backwards off a fast pace If I had to put money on something to win I'd go for Raaqy (currently best price 9/2), who won a Doncaster maiden FTO with a couple of these, including my selection, behind him and the race has already thrown up about 5 subsequent winners........but for comp purposes I'll take a chance with the bigger priced one.
