  1. Re: Denman

Denman would need to sprout wings to take Kauto Star of his feet on a going day. He has a tremendously high cruising speed which we have seen time and time again.
Over 3m 2f at Cheltenham??? And we have never seen his high cruising speed at Cheltenham, even when winning his Gold Cup.
  2. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sunday 8/2/09

3:10 Kempton - Super Frank 1pt WIN He comes to life around this time of the year, going as far back as '06. He won late January '06 Rattled up 4 consecutive wins between late dec '06 and early feb '07. Had two 2nd's and a 1st between late Jan '08 and mid feb '08. He has pretty much no form of note at any other periods of the year and is off a very winnable mark. None of the others in the race inspire very much confidence, although Guildenstern would rate as an obvious danger Jim Crowley on board is an added plus.

  4. Re: Denman

Sorry, don't mean to find fault with everyones posts today but: Are you serious RB? Kauto Star is capable of top class form at 2 miles. Very doubtful Denman is. Kauto Star at his best would be capable of laying up with Denman for at least 3 miles. On that day KS was beaten on the back straight. May be there was something wrong with him on the day, but also very likely he is not as good at Cheltenham as Kempton. Ginge
Yes, Perhaps I should have added that was my own reading of the race. Yes KS was a top class 2 miler, thats never been in doubt. (Was an ante-post fav for the Arkle before "that ride where he fell and was remounted", if I remember right). The point I was trying to make was KS, has always gone a steady pace over the 3m before bursting away in the last mile. Walsh knew how good Denman was/is and knew that he couldnt let him get away, so the fact that Denman went such a strong gallop, completely threw KS off any sort of rhythm /(or never allowed KS get into any sort of rhythm). There is also Cheltenham not suiting as well perhaps. (didnt he fall in the QM chase???)
  5. Re: Denman

It's sad to see such a horse like Denman get beat although from getting my fingers burned during the flat season from backing Henrythenavigator I decided not to tuch Denman today as no horse no matter how special can surely have a career strike rate of 100%' date=' The point could be said the case of his heart problem, fitness, and first ride back on the track effected his performance maybe so, As I remember before the start of the season Paul Nicholls saying he was taking longer to lose the weight he has gathered over the summer, A racehorse could be described hand in hand with an athlete, you can't return from a long lay off and expect to run a marathon and win. What ever the case i don't think Denman should be totally out of the picture for the Gold cup come march.[/quote'] Lets not forget that Kauto Star was being written off in some quarters after being beaten by Snoopy Loopy, before he returned with an imperious performance next time out in the King George.
  6. Re: Denman

Tom enjoyed the moment.... 3840madisonduberlaisdenly5.th.jpg Waving to someone who had a major heart operation, Nice one sir.
If I was Ruby Walsh and Id seen that Id have gone up and clouted the smug bastard!! One thing to be jubilant and celebrate a victory by throwing hands in air. Another thing completely to turn and face your distant rival and basically mock him.
  7. Re: Well Chief

David Pipe took the Denman scalp today. Can he get Well Chief ready to beat Master Minded? The roles are reversed there. The unfit horse has a lot to find to beat the impressive MM' date=' but if this actually happens I can see David Pipe as a champion trainer soon :)[/quote'] Was only a couple of months ago that some members on here, (cant remember who and cant be arsed trawling through threads), were stating that Pipe had become a joke or a laughing stock, or comments of something similar.
  8. Re: Denman

I think you are all mising the big piturce here.Think back to the Gold Cup last season. Several questions and points come to mind. What did he beat. Kauto Star: Never going well, despite Ruby telling the whole world they wern't going that fast. Never jump a twig and never looked half the horse he did in the King George. Neptune Collonges finished only a neck behind Kauto Star. No way on God's earth is that form remotely believable. Exotic Dancer: Badly out of form after racking his back only a few weeks before the race. In truth outside of the Gold Cup the race today may well have been Denman's toughest challenge to date. Kempton? excuse yes. Fitness? excuse no. PN: He's better than ever and I ave no worriesabout going straight to the Gold Cup" said PN The Hennessy was a joke last season and the form has never been franked and in reality he beat little else. The Listener? Wouldn't blow wind up KS's backside at any distance. Not for one minute am I saying Denman isn't a very good horse, but had he met the Kauto Star who won the King george at Cheltenham then the result would surely have been very different? We should be asking why hasn't Ruby even hinted at getting off Kauto Star? The answer is simple: Ruby knows which is the best horse and will show everyone on Gold Cup day why. he wouldn't desert KS for anything.
KS didnt travel well, as he wasnt allowed to. The gallop set by Denman was relentless. AP said as much as well on The Morning Line today as well, that he had never seen such a performance. He was waiting for Denman to stop/slow down but it didnt happen.
  9. Re: Denman

The only horse in training' date=' where my betting is nowhere near as important as it usually is. Will cheer him from start to finish as always and hope he's well and wins. Come on, Denman :drums[/quote'] Its a race Im purposely avoiding betting in. I hope that Denman is fit and well, runs a good race and then returns fit and well. For me, its immaterial whether or not Denman wins (as Ive not/nor will have a bet), Its all about how well he runs, and how fit he is after the race. We know he is the classiest and best horse in the race and in some people's eyes, in training altogether, so its all about doing the best by the horse, even if it means not winning today but enjoying the first racecourse run for a year. The ultimate aim is the Gold Cup and I personally dont feel that he needs to win today, in order to win the gold cup. Just needs to get that bit of sharpness/fitness required. Would also be good for the Gold Cup betting if he did lose today, given that his price may in actual fact drift.
  10. Re: best bet of the day - Sat 7/2/09

400 Kempton: Pretty Star This one has won two of his last three races, both on soft and is in fine form, many runners just lately have just not finished their races and sticking with trainers in form is the safe option. The track couldnt be better for Pretty Star, needs a flat sharp 3m and can take this before he gets a clobbering from the handicapper next week.
Same for me. Pretty Star - 4:00 Kempton 1pt win Not much to add to what BH has stated. Venetia Williams horses running very well atm, Pretty Star won well LTO on soft ground over 3m, won 3 starts ago on soft ground over 2 1/2 miles, yet seemed to want further. Running off the same mark today as he ran off when last winning and although the price may end up quite short, I believe in this company, he should prove too good and good value.
  11. Re: Best bet of the day Feb 6

6:50 Wolverhampton - Giddywell 1pt win C&D winner LTO, 2nd 3rd and 4th have bwwn in the frame in subsequent races against some decent rivals at this lowly level. Of the two main market rivals, Old Romney runs under a penalty and Ghufa returns from a 3 month layoff, so the selection looks better treated than the former, and should be a little sharper than the latter. Of the rest of the field, I rate Kirsty's Lad as the biggest danger if he can just show a return to form. The only question mark over the selection is the trainer's apparent lack of winners recently, but he could still prove too strong for these rivals at these weights.

  12. Re: Wolverhampton 6/2/09

Good luck Trot:ok Two small e/w against the field for me KIRSTYS LAD 14/1 on a high enough mark but goes well over CD and SPY GUN who hasn't won for a very long time but ran well LTO and is available at 40's.
Ive posted this one up multiple times mate, with more success than failure, Cracking Horse!! Good Luck :hope

  14. Re: Best bet of the Day 5 Feb

Well done Trotter' date=' fantastic pick at 8/1 :clap Plenty of other winners, well done guys, another great day with winners for BH, Walter, Falbrav (EW), rule brittania, palaceman :clap[/quote'] Cheers, been a good couple of days for bbotd!!!!! With regards to my own selections, almost a year with no bbotd winner, and I get 2 in 3 days.
  15. Re: Best bet of the Day 5 Feb

4:35 Clonmel -Corkonian 1PT WIN Mullins NHF horses have been absolutely flying this season, with Quinola Des Obeaux, Mostly Bob, Skorcher, Cadspeed and Quadrillion all winning and very highly thought of. General impressions are that the selection could be as good as they 4, and better than Hammersmith who recently finished 2nd for the stable in a NHF race. WP had 4 entered for this race, but chose the selection. Shows that he is confident of striking today. If he goes off 7/4, Id be amazed.
    That should read "5", sorry

  17. Re: Kempton 04 Feb

8.20 FAJR 25/1 GAR SJ A big price due to current form much better than shown for some while. Trainer not in great form and not one that i am overly fussed on but they do pop up with the odd big price winner out of the blue. The horse is probably best at Lingfield and a mile suits best but has a couple of places here and is a backable e/w price.
Given that I always miss your big priced horses, Ive backed this one. :hope:hope
  18. Re: Best bet of the day - 4th Feb

4.40 Lingfield I watched Tous les Deux's last race on the 16th January and noted him down straight afterwards as one to follow next time out. Ridden from the back of the field by Fergus Sweeney, he was forced wide as they swung for home, but he made strong progress late on and was gaining on the leaders at the finish. Gary Moore's gelding is running off a mark of 72 again tomorrow, which is 7 lbs higher than his win at Kempton on the 5th November, however, I feel the form of his last few races has been well advertised and he is entitled to go well off this higher mark. On the 30th December he finished second to Titan Triumph over course and distance and the 82-rated winner ran well next time out when defeated by only a short head by Red Somerset. Jake The Snake was a further half of a length back in third, and boosted the form further when landing a race when last seen (albeit in a claimer). However, the most noteworthy piece of form in my opinion is his seventh last time out as the form of that race has been triple franked, firstly by the winner Trafalgar Square, who won off a 5 lb higher mark next time out, secondly by the third, Strabinios King, who won in a higher grade next time out at Wolverhampton and can be considered an unlucky loser on his last run as he went in seach of a double as a stray horse unsettled him upfront. The final form boost comes courtesy of the tenth, Cornus, who picked up a Southwell handicap off 70 a week ago (incidentally, it was Strabinios King who he mugged for the win). With George Baker back in the saddle that is another huge plus and I think Tous les Deux can go well at a price if the gaps appear. 1 pt win
Lingfield 4.10pm 1pt lay Give Us A Song A tough race in my view horse has up and down form and todays trip i view as a minus for the horse plus with a few others that for me have strong claims to take this race iam laying. Good Luck Whatever You Bet Today
KIDLAT 1.30 Lingfield. 0.5 points each way. Showed decent enough form last time and with being allowed to race off a mark of 74 today, I think he can go close. The trip's long enough, but should be able to sit off the pace and come home strongly.
2.30 - Dollar Express (lay) More than happy to have the rest of the field for me at ~Evens. The favourite finished behind 3 of them last time, albeit should be more on the ball with the experience, plus there's a Channon one that could improve, the Balding newcomer, the 2nd favourite who has some very fair form. As I say, happy to be with the field at Evens
Lingfield 14:00 Media Stars Trainer won the last race (over 10 furlongs). Chris Catlin is booked here and the trainer/jockey combo have won 1 of 4 this season. Their win coming from 3 weeks ago with Cheap Thrills on 14 Jan. Osbornes at the trip of 13+ furlongs have 2 wins from 5. 6 wins from 17 at 11-12 furlongs. Very good value in the 20s to 40 EW
KISS A PRINCE 2.30 Lingfield. Needs to improve to win, but after a modest debut, he improved last time and can improve again today. The trip and surface should be fine and so looks a fair bet at big odds in an open looking race. 0.5 points each way
