  1. Re: Southwell 20/1/09

Is it me or... When Spencer is good he is an excellent jockey....when his bad, His one of the worst around. I just don't know what to make of him. You watch some of his rides and its a 'wow good ride Jamie!' you watch some of his other rides and its 'wtf were you doing Jamie!' P.S not talking out of my pocket as I don't slag jockeys off normally, What do others think of Spencer?
I believe the word you are looking for is "erratic". I'm sure many would share the view, but then again I reckon many could make the same case for/against most of the jockeys plying their trade here.
  2. Re: Paddypower pay out for Cheltenham already

Yep' date=' its one of the worst renewals of the race ever though with no competition so it is going to be a walk in the park as they say.[/quote'] Not the greatest renewal granted, won't take anything away from Master Minded though in my opinion, on the way to eclipsing the great 2m chasers of the past. Got to also believe that the reason for it not being the strongest race, as other trainers are looking for different races for their stars, as they look to avoid in some people's the best horse in training.
  3. Re: Nad Al Sheba 15/1/09

Don't know how anyone can bet here with confidence.
Very True. I remember backing Compton's Eleven here a couple years back at 14/1 or so and it being beaten a shthd. Other than that, I struggle to remember a bet there. Do they have strict "steroid" rules over there? Giving the emphatic nature of Curlin's victory in the World Cup compared to what happened in the Breeders Cup, it was like two different horses.
  4. Re: Or Noir De Somoza!!!!!!

hello what I can tell you about "Or Noir De Somoza" because it was considered as a true champion in france, can go far and imposed a rate of hell. If it adapts to the English course he should very quickly see victories.

In any case I win I would play Saturday because he can beat master minded

Not over 2 miles he won't.
  5. Re: Or Noir De Somoza!!!!!!

Yea, but I have a feeling his race will be the Ryanair and GC next year. Trying him over 2m this weekend is another worry. I just have my hopes, because owner said he fancies the GC when he was sending him for Pipe, but this was long time ago.
As I said up there ^^^^^, its a run to get stiffness out the legs/body, just to get him some race time. He is never going to beat Master Minded (not over 2m anyway), but a good stiff 2m run at a decent pace will be ideal for him just to get into the swing of things. I honestly believe that the Gold Cup is now, and will remain the main intention for him.
  6. Re: Or Noir De Somoza!!!!!!

Its interesting to see him thrown in at the deep end especially in a competitive race like that.
I have backed him quite big e/w for the Gold Cup and seen Pipe saying a couple weeks back that part of the reason for him coming over here was to be competitive in all the big races.
  7. Hope they are doing the right thing in keeping him in training as for me there would be nothing worse than watching him being pulled up in the World Hurdle as he isn't fit/strong enough. Should have retired him whilst being remembered as the great champion he truly is. That being said, if he does get back to a decent level of fitness, then the 3m hurdling scene doesnt really hold any great fears at the moment (perhaps Punchestowns aside), and he would be rightly fancied to have a good crack. Its a tough one....but what are your opinions on him staying in training??

  8. Re: Or Noir De Somoza!!!!!!

Remember a few people talking about this Pipe horse last month and noticed there is a lt of money circulating around him and he will be definetly watched by myself his form reads Jumps placings 2122111111111/F2112-19 Running at Ascot on Saturday against Master Minded. :\
Saturday is merely a run to get any stiffness out of his body as this horse will be much better suited to 3m and possibly further. Gold Cup e/w chance.
  9. Re: Greyhound Tips

Hello i have recently joined the forum and cant wait to get some action going. I bet on Greyhounds everyday with on average 10 out of 13 winners a day. I use a simple but effective system and hope i can help all of you along the way. I will continue to update this everyday as much as i can i would appreciate everyone has patience please. Thanks. I have only got the one Greyhound for today 14/01/09 so here it is. In the 11.11 Newcastle - T4 - Sporting Flower
:welcome Not a big greyhound fan myself. (NOT IN A BETTING SENSE). Its in my opinion, pot luck. All it takes is for the dog to get hit on the first bend and thats it, race over. Good Luck though mate. :ok
  10. Re: Newbury 14/01

1.55 Cracking novice hurdle here with Mad Max a likely warm favourite & with the last 5 runnings going to the jolly will no doubt be hard to beat. However, Hobbs' knows how to race this course & with Cockney Trucker has a great horse to take on the favourite. Won here in November & was unlucky 1st time up to come up against Dee ee williams which has gone on to prove its worth over the last 2 months in top novice races. Also ran 8th in the festival bumper last season, a race which normally produces a large amount of winners.
Watching brief for me, but I will be watching Mad Max closely today. Not just interested in his hurdling, I think he is a top top class chaser in the making. Quite possibly the biggest horse Ive personally set eyes on....
  11. Re: binocular (the speed horse) As Binocular will now head straight for the festival, the only reason now for any sort of drift would be something else producing something special before then. Then, it would take a big confident gamble on the day for Binocular to be bigger than even 6/4. Personally, if all stays as is now, and the ground is better than good/soft then I can see him going off 5/4 and shorter. That being said, I strongly fancy Snap Tie to shoot him down.

  12. Re: Fakenham 12/01/09 Very much a watching day for me but I do have one question. Would it take a significant amount of money to move today's market?? Asking as I notice that Rocky Ryan in the 3:20 was backed in from an early 9/1 (ish), to a general 11/4, 3/1 odds. Another fancy was withdrawn and now he's dropped to close to 2/1. Is this a serious gamble on the horse or just one medium sized bet having the horse avalanche in price?? Be interesting to watch the race just to see the outcome, if nothing else.

  13. Re: Chepstow 27/12

3 horses entered for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham run today (Pepite De Soleil, Simarian and Walkon) in the 2.40 race and all are currently 20-1 for that race yet start today at 5-2, 11-4 and 9-2 for the 2.40. I would fancy Simarian as it has won in style and won twice at Cheltenham, the last time staying on well to win by 7 lengths. Pepite De Soleil is short priced based on stable and reputation whereas Walkon comes from the Alan King stable and he has a good record in the Triumph hurdle and won this race in 2007 with Franchoek. I'm backing the above 3 each way at 20-1 with Bet365 for the Triumph Hurdle, a convincing performance by any of them will likely see the odds halve. A good race today that will provide many indicators for March. :ok
Good shout that mate. Walkon won nicely enough and the price should shorten considerabely.
  14. Re: Ruby Walsh

Personally, I dont think he nor Walsh are as good as McCoy, Thornton (very underrated IMO) or Geraghty. Just Walsh tends to ride better horses. All just personal opinion though, no right or wrong. :ok
very true that, same way I rarely back McCoy and Never when riding for Jonjo.....
  15. Re: Ruby Walsh

I think the criticism for Sam Thomas has been justified recently, but I DO NOT think he is a bad jockey. Sam has ridden some excellent races and was brilliant when he had to fill in for Ruby last season. He did nothing wrong on Denman etc and people seem to have forgotten about that. Walsh messed up on a few Nicholls horses before he got injured, yet that was ignored. When Walsh gets it right he is praised to high heaven, but when Sam got it right today, very little was said. His ride on What a Friend was excellent, and the RUK guy was dead right that if it was Ruby, people would have been singing his praises. I am not a big fan of Ruby Walsh and feel he gets off with a lot of bad rides. I dont think there is that much between Walsh and Thomas, and feel Thomas will only get better after what has happened recently. I think you 99.9 % figure is ridiculous Rule Brittania and based on your own admiration of Walsh. Admittedly, Thomas has been through a tough time recently, but a jockey should be judged on his performance over a few years, not a couple of months. ;) Just my 2pence anyway. :ok
perhaps it is a little walsh tinted glasses. That being said, Ive praised Thomas in the past and also said recently that people seem to have forgotten his ride aboard Denman. I still think that he is a completely different level from Walsh, and also the jockeys Milenni mentioned.
  16. Re: Ruby Walsh

And please explain why he is better than AP Alex?? Don't be silly, records speak for themselves. Beaten on his comeback on an odds on shot, just goes to show Sam Thomas has done nothing wrong whilst Walsh has been away, there is absolutely no difference between the pair.
Hardly a disgrace losing his comeback race (on an odds on shot as you put it), as the winner was the second favourite and a very good combination King/Thornton. Walsh won't yet be race fit, that will come with races. As for saying Sam Thomas is as good as Ruby Walsh, that is absolutely ridiculous imo, and Im sure that 99.99% of punters would also share that view.
  17. Re: Master Minded

I would love to see Tidal Bay take on the longer trip but must have a run prior & must go left handed like i said yesterday. The King George won't suit IMO. Tamarinbleu has to lead, yes but not the crazy pace it jumped the first 3 at last year. MM could as Ginge says start at 1/3 ish if no one turns up to take it on. Surely one of those top 5 in the betting w/o fav has to line up just to keep the race status of being the best 2m chase of the season. The good thing about the old days was that the same horses turned up every year for another tilt & it was always a case of 3 or 4 against each other. This year it seems its MM & nothing else. I would love to see VPU take it on again & this time be slightly closer to it, 2nd in the QM each year aint too shabby for an owner! Twist Magic just isnt a Cheltenham horse for me. Sticking with those 2 i mentioned for now against the beast MM.
Tell you what though, the race of the festival could be the ryanair!!! All the horses who want to avoid Master Minded will probably run that race and all the horses who want to avoid Denman/Kauto Star will probably run in that race. Makes for a hell of a race imo.
  18. Re: Master Minded

I agree with Ginge that i cant see anything else beating the horse at Cheltenham this year unless it is a freak ground condition, fall or injury. Therefore, surely its time to look for those in the EW market which may catch onto the fact there may be some decent prize money on offer Of those listed Tidal Bay Twist Magic VPU Well Chief Takeroc are the main ones, however there are doubts over the 1st 4 & Takeroc is a stable companion of Master minded but will run in the race, at 20/1 Skybet looks like being a good price although will be after a market w/o fav. The irish contingent will be from Thyne Again Schindlers Hunt Clopf Newmill Mansony None of which i feel are good enough. Thyne Again may plod on for a place & is best priced 33/1 Leaving a couple of genuine outsiders for the race Tamarinbleu 33/1 Sportingbet started 7/2 2nd fav last year after turning over Twist Magic at Ascot on poor ground. Has course form & will need to avoid the tactics they had last year as the pace it set was ridiculous & the horse was knackered after 1m! Finished 7th last year but much better than that & although better over further may still go for th race again. Kruguyrova is a horse i like a lot. 2nd in the arkle last year to Tidal Bay & as big as 50/1 for the race at the moment. Not sure what the trainers plans are but this looks a 2m animal so hopefully will wait for the decent ground & then come in fresh for the race.
Tidal Bay definitely wont run the Champion Chase, Howard Johnson said as much yesterday. Said he was looking at the Ryanair or the Gold Cup. VPU will almost certainly avoid the Champion Chase, because as has already has been said, he ran as well as he possibly could have last season, yet still lost by 19l. Well Chief has fitness and health issues, and cant be backed with any confidence sadly. Twist Magic, I fancy will also run one of the other races at Cheltenham or may even swerve Cheltenham altogether and go straight to Aintree. Takeroc, I cant see after yesterday (even with all the promise he has shown), how Nicholls could justify throwing him into the Champion Chase race, he isnt that class yet!!! Surely there is a lesser race he can be entered??? Of the Irish horses mentioned, Im a fan of Clopf and feel that if at his best, he could challenge most horses for a place, but is possibly a good 2 stone behind MM!!! Im also a fan of Kruguyrova. As for Tamarenbleu changing tactics, I can only ever remember him trailing a blaze out in front, and cant see how he would cope with any differing tactics.
  19. Re: Master Minded

Moscow Flyer (one of my favourite horses of all time, I backed him ante-post to win the Foot And Mouth Champion Hurdle (against Istabraq)) has imo marginally better form than Master Minded. But Moscow Flyer's form was when under full pressure. Master Minded's best form has been when cruising home. Therefore there must be a good chance he is capable of even better. After all he is still only a 5 year old. Ginge
Form alone Moscow Flyer would be the better of the two undoubtedly, but we have years of races for Moscow Flyer to use as evidence. We have 1 year's racing as a 4/5 year old for Master Minded, and even though he has already won a Champion Chase and a Tingle Creek, it's all still about the potential of what he could go and achieve. Arguably, if he continues the way he is going now, he could and probably will surpass the achievements of the greats over 2m.
