  1. Re: Best bet of the day 25/2/09 5:15 Downpatrick - Montan 1PT WIN Showed nothing at all in 2 bumpers to kick off his racing career but shaped better when taking his first run over hurdles over 2m 2 starts ago and was staying on at the end looking a live danger. On his last start he clearly didnt stay 2m4f, and dropping back 3f this time, and being used to running races then should fare very well in what looks a very mediocre bumper, even with Hammersmith representing the all conquering WP Mullins stable. Hammersmith's 2nd LTO looks very weak as the 1st, 3rd and 4th have subsequently come out and been hammered either over hurdles or an NHF race. Same goes with Maurice Speed and Urban Gale's LTO rivals. More than happy to take on the market leaders with the selection, particularly if he puts his best foot forward and learns from his previous runs.

  2. Re: Denman

I saw the interview and I think Billy is right, Nicholls has a habbit of being optimistic in the lead up to races. I prefer to judge Denman on what I see. His coat I thought was poor and body language wasn't great either. Did not look a happy horse. Ginge
Around abour Late Jan/Early Feb last year there was a fitness scare regarding Kauto Star last year if I remember rightly?? Nicholls came out a couple weeks prior saying he was back on top form and would be at his absolute best come GC day. Kind of funny he is attributing similar types of comments about Denman this year.....

3/5 mate :clap When we see selections like this its sad to know that almost no-one will have likely followed suit with your bets, as there is no reasoning behind them. Pop a line or 2 in mate, and Im quite sure if the strike rate continues then some punters on here will be more than happy to follow your tips. :ok
  4. Re: Best bet of the day 24/2/09 450 Leicester - Nelson 1 PT WIN for bbotd purposes Trip will be plenty sharp enough for a horse who's best form is over a good deal further than todays 2m4f, but he shaped a lot better LTO over 2m5f than he has done in recent times, and may come on for that run after a previous 8 month absence. Once thought of as a smart prospect in France, he never quite achieved the levels they thought he could and this is about as good a grade as he will ever run in and its a bonus that he runs off the same mark as his decent 2nd LTO. Plenty question marks over just about every horse in the field, I just feel that the selection could very well have more going for him.

  5. Re: Best Bet of the Day 22/2/09 345 Fontwell - Lough Derg WIN Gutsy stayer who will attempt to win the race from the front. Won the race last year from My Way De Solzen, over c,d and ground, just 8 days after a gutsy performance when going down to Kasbah Bliss. Has had a good start to 2009, with 2 victories, a 4th and a 2nd place, when beaten by a hd by Serabad LTO. Expect him to be well backed, particularly as Pipe's horses seem to be running very well lately. Of the rest Afsoun is a class horse but perhaps Pierrot Lunaire (if he stays on his feet), could provide the main danger and could fill the f/c.

  6. Re: Idiot Magnier

As the horses lined up to start' date=' walking in, Magnier was at the back. Apparently he thought he was going to clip heels with the horse in front. So pulled him off, taking another turn and shouted to the starter, who did not hear. The race started with Magnier's horse pointing the other way.[/quote'] Just seen it for the first time. Tough one to call that.... but imo if the horses are lined up ready to start, and you decide to take another turn (shouting or not, as its tough to hear), then you do so at your own peril.
  7. Re: Best bet of the day - 19/10

Race: 16.15 Ayr Selection: Panama at Once I had part ownership in this horse last year but unfortunately he was plagued by injury problems and didnt run. Sod's law that almost as soon as the share period ended, he regained full fitness and has run like we knew he was capable of the last twice. These last two runs have convinced me he is as good as I originally thought, and I have no problems with Napping this horse today. After 2 falls since returning from injury, Panama then ran at one of Joss Saville's favourite tracks, Newcastle and jumped like he did before he got injured. It was a joy to watch as he gained 1/2 a length out of the field at every fence. Fortunately, he had the speed and stamina to go with the jumping and came out of the fog to take the prize. He was 25/1 that day, but I can assure you he wasnt totally unfancied ! That was over 3 miles on heavy going, and he shaped like a real stayer. I used to think 3 miles was his ideal trip, but after that run, I began to wonder whether he could stay further. The trainer, Joss Saville, obviously felt the same was, as next time he was sent to Bangor for a competitive 3m 6f slog in the mud. It was hard work for them all that day, but Panama ran with a great deal of promise, staying on to be 2nd. I think that the trip was just a bit too far considering the heavy ground, but I wouldnt rule out him staying it in the future when the going is firmer. Back on to the race tomorrow, and I really believe Panama can go in again. He has gone up 9 lb in the ratings, but I dont feel that is enough to stop him winning. He drops back down to 3 miles and yet again takes his chance on heavy ground. He has already proved he enjoys the stamina sapping tests, so I have no worries about him getting home tomorrow. I also fear that a few of his rivals will struggle to show their true form inthe conditions, and that makes Panama stand out even more as a bet. If any more positives were needed, Denis O Regan provides that final convincer. You cant take anything away from Tom Messenger who rode Panama brilliantly the last twice, but having O Regan on board convinces me that Joss Saville expects this horse to go very close again tomorrow. Something Silver may represent good value as a saver. He enjoys the heavy ground and in my opinion, will stay this trip with relative ease. WIN please BH Good luck all :ok
Fcuking hell :sad:sad Unlucky Mate :puke
  8. Re: Layers

I think IF and this is a big IF you find the right selection method you're s/r will be high enough that you will lay a long succession of losers before that nasty surprise which will in turn allow you to compound the bank. I've seen much better ROI on horse backing systems but never anywhere else have I seen someone go from 3K to 100K in one year. If you've not read it you really should. Google 'maria laying horses'
:eek That took some discipline eh? I never read through all 196 pages but that is some going.
  9. Re: Layers

I don't really fit into the category as I back before I lay' date=' but I do go through stints of laying. Put it this way, it's much easier to pick a loser than it is to pick a winner. When I started, I laid to win a tenner, but my liabilty was higher. I picked horses that were 10/1 - 12/1 ish and that were on the drifting. My first 33 lays were all successful. I then laid a winner that lost me 120, but i was 210 up. Another reason that it's enjoyable is that unlike with backing, alot of the time you know a fair way out that a horse is going to lose, whereas it's generally nailbiting if you pick a winner. Laying a 12/1 shot and seeing it going back through the pack 5f from home with no chance of winning is just as satisfying as picking a winner.[/quote'] Ive never laid a horse at all, but its an aspect of betting that has only started to interest me, but I don't quite understand what is beneficial about laying a 10's or a 12's horse that isnt really expected to win anyway? Would you not have to lay a lot in succession just to make money, whereas if you picked the same 10's or 12;s horse to win and it happened to win then thats instant money?
  10. All you layers out there, Palaceman, Zero, Xcode and there are probably others. I get the fact that you like and prefer to lay horses, but just a question of interest, why is this your preferred way of betting and do you ever back horses to win?

  11. Re: Golden rules

Yeah' date=' so do I. Would be daft not to. But say theyre like 13/8 each, you can guarantee that you'll come 2nd to the other![/quote'] True :ok This is where Ginge's point comes in to play, if you believe that one of the horses should be around 5/4, 11/8 ish and is actually 13/8 whereas the other JF is 13/8 but you believe should be around 2/1, then you bet where you believe the value lies. Obviously this would be the 13/8 chance, you believe should be 11/8.
  12. Re: Golden rules

Never try and split joint favourites cos you can guarantee that the one you chosse will come 2nd to the one you didn't choose!!! :ok
If I reckon that either of them will definitely win and they are of odds of 2/1 and bigger, Ill back them both for equal stakes.
