  1. Yes, I find the PL format boring too.

From the above mentioned, I also went with Ross Smith (of course, LOL... I just always have that feeling he should march through the field, but obviously I had the same feeling before the Masters :loon ), Pietreczko, Joyce and Veenstra.

And then I also went with Doets, it was around 250 if I remember right.

Ross Smith has to be taken at 66/1! with Skybet. Has done nothing wrong really of late and just gets players on their A-game for the majority of the time. I'm ignoring everybody in the PL and taking the following :

    2pts e/w Dobey 20/1 Paddypower
    2pts e/w Bunting 25/1 Paddypower
    -------------------------------------------------------
    1pt e/w R.Smith 66/1 Skybet
    -------------------------------------------------------
    0.5pts e/w Van Den Bergh 80/1 Paddypower
    0.5pts e/w Clemens 150/1 Paddypower

was very tempted with Chizzy but whatever I do with him, he does the opposite so what can you do!?

Congrats to Stephen Bunting for a majestic first PDC major win, and to Fader for the winning 25/1 pick! :loon

I agree that Price looks like the pick tonight but he seems to have a bit of a problem beating Littler :D

Yeah, but maybe it's a Price/MVG or Price/Humphries final in a more traditional vein...

  4. One other thought: it's funny that Rock is now 40+ to win... last season, he was the "next big thing coming", in some cases being a top5-6 favorite in major tournaments... now of course totally overshadowed by Littler, and he has been playing bad too... I'm curious whether he can bounce back at some point.

  5. Yes, though the first three are more of a "sure thing" than Price (reflected in the outright odds as well). Price/Cross(/Smith?) is not that clear-cut maybe.

That said, I like Price to win tonight. Firstly, it is in Cardiff, so a rare home advantage for him (and he won it last time if I remember right), and secondly Littler/Humphries/MVG are on the other side of the bracket. So basically he "only" has to beat Aspinall and Cross to reach the final.

  6. Those three (Humphries, Littler, MVG) seem to stand out right now... the draw should be important in future tournaments, as whoever of these three has a "clear" bracket to the finals would be in advantage compared to the other two.

Or am I overthinking it, lol.

  7. Absolutely, Van Veen was my very first instinct... In the previous edition of the tournament the dutch (and belgian, LOL) players dominated, so to speak... let's hope for a similar scenario... it's funny to think back: Van Veen was actually the FAVORITE against Littler in the youth final, and he was a shorter price in the outright market in the worlds too... now Littler is 4,5, while Van Veen is 40. So I'm trying it too, especially as Michael Smith could be beatable in the first round, if Van Veen is in form.

crazy that MVG is intimidated by Littler already. In an event like this, if you're not even comfortable here then what chance you got in a big event.

Exactly... I had that weird feeling too that MVG is playing "the man", not the dartboard so to speak... so with all his experience he seemed to have much more of that nervous tension. It has been a trend now that he almost always has a bad game in a tournament, but... this one looked different.

hasn't won anything. Other than some European Tour floor tournaments.

I suppose Wright at least won the European Championships. In reality, Dobey should be in for Cross.

If I remember right, Cross expressed his wish last year that he did not want to play in the PL... in the light of his previous remarks, his inclusion is quite funny.

  10. 2024 line up announced:

    • Michael van Gerwen
    • Michael Smith
    • Luke Humphries
    • Gerwyn Price
    • Nathan Aspinall
    • Rob Cross
    • Peter Wright
    • Luke Littler

Of course, Wright doesn't fully "deserve" his spot, but it's Peter Wright, so... (Personally, I would have went with Dobey or maybe Heta for some international flavor.)

You can't argue with the other seven, really. Yes, Littler was that impressive at the Ally Pally.

Can't wait to see this kid on the tour. He will be the new Taylor you'd imagine. How does he NOT dominate darts in the coming years?

I have wondered the same thing... how do you even compete with this kind of performance?

Humphries deserved the title... he crowned a really dominant season. I feel his masterful checkouts was the deciding factor, even with the very high average.
