I know what you mean @Valiant Thor, was thinking the same until recently, only reason i carried on is this site. They're trying to keep the comps going, even offering more money in the naps comp and i'm finding the Punters Lounge community a nice break in a boring day, even striking up some nice friendships through messages.
Also, i agree @Trotter about racing grade and that the way to judge this is by prize money. I've used At The Races for OR, previous races/runs, jockey info and replays of races...not that it helped much with my naps? I've found it very hard to find "my type of pick" something with good ew value.
Something i have noticed is the standard of jockeys seem very different in the States, as is the way most try to run their race. Position seems key on these tracks. If you're not there or there abouts entering home straight, they're going to struggle, but so many seem to want to come from way back with a late burst because it looks good.(look good first, win second) Nearly all fail when it appears they were on the quickest horse but left it too late. On more than one occasion i've seen horses entering the home straight, jockey whipping away head down, and the horse veers hard right for 2 to 3 seconds before the jockey even realizes. Have also seen some jockeys whipping away on horses that are out on their feet and have no chance of winning.
Their bad are very bad, their average are bad, their good are average, at best. This leaves a handful of very good jockeys and imo find the decent jockeys and they should find you a few winners every day. I've been betting on Tyler Gaffalione and Luis Saez the past week (almost all low odds and favorites, not my normal cup of tea) in accas, lucky 15 etc and have done ok. Tyler Gaffalione seems to me to be a very good jockey and has had quite a few winners recently and i've done well with him, as is the same with Saez, i just personally don't like him as much. I'm sure they won't win again all year now i've said that lol and they don't race again until 9th at Gulfstream anyway. I know you have far more knowledge and experience than me and i'm just stating the obvious but just thought i'd share my recent experience of what  i've read and watched and how i got there. I'd be interested to find out how you're going to tackle it?

Also as HK only races twice a week I might have a look at these US Claimers to see if I can figure out what it's all about
The Racing Post don't seem to cover US meetings at the smaller tracks but SSR do ....... well the meetings on TV anyway
Looking at the SSR site (ATR) at least they show the OR for the horses which I don't think the Post do ..... that's a big help
The immediate problem is that the races don't appear to be Graded so at first sight you have no idea what level of race the runners have been competing in. My initial startig point is just to go by the money  ...... and assume that the higher the prize money the higher class the race. So a horse that has been running in 23K Claimers and is now in a 10K Claimer is dropping in class
    Seems a reasonable assumption!
If anyone has any tips on how to approach US Claimers I'd be happy to take them on  board
It's obviously not the same as the odd Claimer we have over here where trainers might run a horse because they think it's OR is too high to be competitive in handicaps. That doesn't apply in the US meetings because there don't appear to be any handicaps at the meetings that are on now.

Here are the fixtures for this weekend's matches in the Liga Primera de Nicaragua. Let's hear what thoughts you guys have got for these latest games scheduled. Managua, Real Esteli, and Diriangen have now sealed their places in the play-off quarter-finals at least. It's also confirmed that both Deportivo Las Sabanas and Deportivo Ocotal are now unable to qualify for the play-off semi-finals. Something to consider when taking into account the mentality of the teams heading into these games.

Thank you. So kind of you. I can't follow it because I have a child to look after. I've stocked up tons of food but some fresh food like vegetables and fruit, the most you can get is 3-5 days maybe if we eat frozen veg too.. so I have to go out once a week at least for food shopping and I take my child for a walk around our streets twice a week for fresh air.

Ok, day 1 of the project
    The Purchase
I have purchased a share in a horse called Last Golden Ticket and it will be trained by Donald McCain
The syndicate is part of the Owners Group who also own Axiom and Elite Racing.
The share was just £53 for 12 months and there are 3,000 shares available.
(before anyone says anything i'm not expecting any R.O.I in this project, just the involvement)
I have been promised visits to the yard, a chance of an owners badge when it runs and a share out in any prize money the horse may win. We also get a monthly magazine and a texts about other information about the horse, entries and trainers feedback.
It was a toss up between going with this syndicate or trying the Racing Emporium which is run by the Easterby brothers in Yorkshire. Similar ways in which it is run but mainly flat horses.
I chose this syndicate and this particular horse as its not far from me, Donald McCain is 60 miles up the road so will be able to take advantage of any stable visits and also i'm gambling on him running the horse at Bangor, Haydock, Aintree or Carlisle which are within easy reach.
There are other horses available including the old boy Alcala trainer by Paul Nicholls, he is being aimed at the big Hunter Chases this season and is only £40 a share. Nicholls trains in Somerset and is just too far away for me.

    The Horse
    Last Golden Ticket
The horse is a 4yo that has had one run in a bumper for Gordon Elliott. He won that day in July at Sligo and has since been sold for around £50,000 from what i can gather.
He will be aimed at Novice Hurdles this season and being closely related to Golden Chieftain he could make up into a useful chaser. There is an option to carry on with the share as long as you want, also you can quit after 12 months is up.

I have been promised a welcome pack within 7 days so will report back when I know anything else

    Final Table
An exciting end to a weird month! Saddlesore nicks the top spot with a 13/2 winner on the last day
Unlucky to Pete who held the lead for a long time but his sit and wait tactics didn't pay off, they rarely do in this game.
BBBC and Ken fill the spots with superb totals and amazing 36 players ended up in profit.
**Those 36 players will play in the KO Cup in May as we are having a month off due to the lack of choice at the minute.
84 players had 1499 bets and we ended up with a 27pt profit and a S/R of 18%?
I guess we wont see the same sort of numbers during April?
Prizes (Top 3 can claim PL Merchandise)
    £80: Saddlesore
    £40: Pete1971
    £20: BBBC
    £10: Kenisbusy
    £30 Cup: Internetmails

    Naps Comp for April
Most of us are going through a difficult time at the moment and whilst taking part and visiting the forum is not on the top of the list of priorities for people, here at Punters Lounge we realise how much a bit of normality can help. We have members from all over the world and our thoughts are with everyone.
Racing like many other industries are struggling but we have taken the decision to carry on with the Daily Naps Competition and as a reward to our loyal members Paul is increasing the Prize Money on offer for the month of April.
The new proposals we spoke about will be coming in although we are going to leave out the KO Cup competition until May as it may be difficult for 30 players trying to pick 3 selections each on the 4th of April when we may have limited action.
The qualifying places in March will remain in place for the next KO Cup Competition.
We will accept bets from any racing from around the world during April and all bets outside of Europe will be settled at the Industry SP which appears in the ATR or Sporting Life results section.
(*Racing Post publish dividend prices which will be different from the Industry SP)
We realise backing horses from the other side of the world is not everyones cup of tea and fully understand those that choose to sit it out until things get back to normal.
I will continue to put the daily threads up and try and pinpoint what action is talking place. Just be aware of the off times, some US and AUS Racing will be very early in the morning.
Race times will be based on the UK 24 hour clock, anything after midnight will count towards the following day regardless of when the meeting started.
Hopefully in four weeks time we will have some better news, in the meantime we wish you all the best.

    Prize Money For April
    1st: £100
    2nd: £75
    3rd: £50
    4th: £25
Tipster with most winners with at least £10 profit will receive a £50 bonus
All winners will also receive Punters Lounge Merchandise.

    Many thanks
