    CAUTION ADVISED!!!
I HAD NUMEROUS SPREADSHEET ISSUES AND ALSO HAD MISINFORMATION ON SPORTINGLIFE FAST RESULTS
ACTUAL RECORD IS ON THE FINAL POST HERE
Sorry everyone  I had a ton of work on, and did this as fast as I could. Happily, it ended well!!
    ____
I'm trialling a method that involves watching the books for every race in UK & IRE, and spotting where the steamers are before 10am.
At this time in a morning, everyone is making their book on Betfair, and early money is going on, so I think it's a good time to watch the markets. There's no influence other than what the newspaper tipsters are saying, and what the predicted SP is going to be.
My method (there's no hard & fast rle, and mostly visual cues):-
Look at races that have had a market move (steamer) and see what is happening with the top 3 horses in terms of odds. Use AtTheRaces and Oddschecker to identify. A good race would be one where the FAV has had very little movement (2.50 > 3.00 < 2.88 > 3.00 odds for example)
Also note the movement in odds of the 2nd & 3rd FAVs in these races If the 2nd/3rd FAV has a big price movement (STEAMER) for example: 10.00 < 6.00 then this qualifies. Here's what I've got for today using this method... (ALL £0.25 E/W BETS)
I've thrown in trebles & doubles for fun. I am keen to see how it actually performs, and I might knock up a spreadsheet to track it. Thought it might be of interest to a few folks We'll see...

    Hi
I understand the concept of the top 10 tracks, separately for Jumps and Flat season.  But how are the "PL Tips" selected for each race?
p.s.  I am not after trade secrets.  What I am asking is: Are the Tips based on one super PL tipster, a committee of PL tipsters, ......

    Interesting, thank you.
I did an exercise on my own bets, working back from the highest odds I had bet.  For me, around 14/1 was the point where I should not bet to, on average, get the best return for the buck.

Did not put a performance Friday 20 April 2018, relative to the SP.  I hope it can Saturday.  Did two consecutive days last year at Ayr in April 2017.  2nd on each occasion.  (Just in case Theinval is a non-runner, I have a reserve in another race, thus  14:55 Ayr - Ch'tibello  25/1 EW Ladbrokes oddschecker)

The second highest Placepot dividend was returned on Thursday at Wolverhampton , the £81,874 being eclipsed only by the £91,774 declared at Cheltenham on December 11, 2015.
Not a single favourite managed to reach the places in the half dozen races on which the Placepot operated at Cheltenham that day, and while that was not the case at Wolverhampton – two outright market leaders won and a joint-favourite was placed – turnover was boosted by the meeting being the only afternoon card on offer, with Warwick and Musselburgh having been victims of waterlogging.
The massive Wolverhampton dividend was won to only 65p, so there will be a £28,655 carryover to Lingfield on Friday. Four punters were celebrating, with three winning £16,374 for 20p lines, and the other £4,093 for a 5p line.
    All-time top Placepot dividends
    £91,774 Cheltenham, December 11, 2015
    £81,874 Wolverhampton, April 5, 2018
    £63,284 Newmarket, October 3, 2003.

Just to get the record straight Im not a mathematician, Im an engineer (C&G , HND the whole 9 yrds as they say).
I prefer the math side because math dont lie (unless manipulated for a certain purpose ie Government stats etc) but on a whole they will give you a better indication of which direction your punting is going to go.
    To answer your Q... (IMO)
TKC is in theory the optimal staking strategy to use but in practice is not worth a second look unless the absolute value to plug into the equation can be obtained, Its all fine and good using the coin example 11/10 for a true even money shot but that doesnt happen in real life.
Anyone can make a tissue for a race (subjective) but I very much doubt its accurate enough to plug into the equation,if you underestimate your edge then its not worth using TKC but if you overestimate your edge BOOM your losing money quicker than the taxman takes it, again IMO TKC is mainly used by theorists using past data , I have yet to see it being used pre event (non guarenteed fixed edge) over any extended period of time which usually tells a story.

Thanks guys for all your replies, very interesting views.
The way I pick horses I think it would be difficult to grade them 1pt/3pts/5pts, with regard to increasing stakes on higher odds I think I will probably get bitten when I have a long losing run, I'm going with level stakes and increase my bank overtime.

Agree.  Tough business this punting.  Especially for a relative novice like me.
As per BillyHills, your suggested stakes where stake = odds is back to front.  I would say that the "dutching" method (albeit across races and not a selection of horses within one race) would have more logic.  Not that I am advocating it.
+1, I think!  I do level stakes for the most part.  I intend to increase the level stake as I go through a profit target.  For sure I decrease the level stake when I have a losing run.
