Irishbugger
Anyone else catch another 'Spencer Classic' onboard 'Select Committee' in the last race? Why does he complicate things? I don't mind this time as I had a few bob on Guto but it is shocking that he beats horses on a daily basis with his inability to judge pace, to find gaps, by trying to win stylishly all the time. What's everyone elses opinion on one of our 'alledged top jocks'?
fintron
Re: Jamie Spencer Damn, I thought I had my night time entertainment sorted then, was just gonna crack open a few cans and sit down with the laptop to watch the comedy act, but then realised ATR aren't showing the Notts replays! I hate the guy, but having said that, noticed he rode a winner for Kevin Ryan the other day. If I do ever give in and back him ever again it will be for a Ryan trained horse as he doesnt seem to ride to his usual standards for him!!! Forget the fact he found trouble, etc, etc, the most frustrating thing is that he never put the horse in the race and finished with plenty more to give. Sometimes, the criticism towards him is unjust but, in this instance, the failure to give the horse a chance is indefensible.

Last time I went on RUK was just after the hoo haa with the TV channel collaping and I couldn't watch them back on the net so figures they'd give up with the net replays. Will try again :cheers

If I do ever give in and back him ever again it will be for a Ryan trained horse as he doesnt seem to ride to his usual standards for him!!! 'Everymanforhimself'? Horse was very well handicapped and looked a winner in waiting 2 runs ago. Spencer will still win races, mainly because he's on the best horses, he can, if on a hold-up horse and the gaps appear, look a genius, it's just that he trys that in every single race. He's a clown. It takes a very, very, well handicapped horse for me to part with hard-earned if he's up top. In fact, if he's on a lojng odds on shot in a 4 horse race, I'll take 2 of the others in a placepot every day of the week.
fintron
Re: Jamie Spencer Yes, thats the one. For all his flaws, Spencer does have a good, profitable record riding for Kevin Ryan although typically, as you'd expect, the day I napped one of his on the AW for Ryan several months ago he got outbattled in the finish and got done in a photo!!!! Still, Jamie made it quite clear regarding the Thomas Baines situation that its the owners and not the general public he rides for. He also said that racing is run with people with brains, unlike those that had a go at him, so I suppose we just have to let him live in his own little deluded world in which he thinks he is a world beater, just cos he was lucky enough to land a steering job on Sariska in the Irish Oaks. I think that is a fair assessment. There seems to be a new breed of jockey these days that are hellbent on trying to prove the racing public wrong all the time. Spencer was the first to start it with his "I know best-how many winners have you ridden?" attitude. Ryan Moore has followed suit and not only has he alienated himself from punters (for a champ) he isn't fulfilling his potential - which seemed limitless a few years ago. We see more and more ill-judged rides, worryingly from younger jocks. Give me the no frills but effective De Souza, Eaves, Mitchell, Doe and Buick any day of the week. Spooner
Re: Jamie Spencer What do we make of his ride in the first at Ascot? Got the horse into all sorts of trouble from stall 3 yet the winner drawn two found none. Was that Jamie leaving it to late again, I hate that prick. Spooner
Re: Jamie Spencer Well don't back him then, end of story;) Personally think he rode a decent race:DSome of his rides are masterful but he could have a hell of alot more winners if he didn't find the trouble he does, this horse found trouble at Goodwood but stayed on well towards finish, Jamie got her up the run before very late and also has on other occasion, the winner as I mentoined found no problems from stall 2, The horse wasn't even slowly away but he pulled her back and sat her in the middle of the field, then when turning for home there's a lovely gap to move into but he pulls it more to the rail, by that time more horses have got infront and less time to make the move, get's out around the furlong pole and give her the go but a little to late closing in, I understand the horse obviously enjoys to be produced lateish and in doing so can cause this problem, however there was no need for the delay he got and that caused the 1/2 length defeat. For what its worth, I actually had the horse to place and I'll continue to place back him but I'd rather be on a Ryan Moore/Kieron Fallon 11/10 shot than a Jamie Spencer 11/10 shot on the win front.
