Theologist looks potentially well treated ahead of his handicap debut and hinted last time out that has has ability when third at Lingfield. Tried in two Newmarket maidens he failed to make much of an impression last term but seems to have trained on for Amanda Perrett as his last effort was promising and suggested he needed a greater stamina test. With three extra furlongs to contend with here and an initial rating of 67 I think he is handicapped to win races at some point, but this looks a warm little contest so going steady with the staking today.

Re: Salisbury (eve) 21/5/09 7.05 Salisbury Caprio is now back with his old trainer after a stint with Tom Dascombe and made a winning return for Jim Boyle when landing a Goodwood handicap two weeks ago. He is only up 3 lbs for that win and racing in the same grade looks to have solid claims of following up tonight on similar ground. The likes of Bel Cantor and Victorian Bounty should ensure he gets the race run to suit. TBP @ 1.75 Betfair

Re: Salisbury (eve) 21/5/09 STAMFORD BLUE 6.30 Salisbury. 0.5 points each way. Gets in here off a dropped mark of 65, and although not in the best of form recently, he'd be open to improving on those efforts now racing at a place where he likes. The trip and ground wouldn't be a problem and should be able to have the race run to suit, so at generous looking odds of around 12/1, he'd look well worthy of a bet, irrespective of the end result.

Re: Salisbury (eve) 21/5/09 6.30 Salisbury 4 NR's cutting the field to 14 for this Class 6, 6f handicap. For me, this is a track where course winners go in again and we have 3 to consider here. Stamford Blue has claims but the fact that its winless for 2 years tempers enthusiasm, whilst Castano almost certainly needs softer ground. This leaves us with 1 and, coincidentally, the longest price of the 3 in: Bold Argument (12/1 Ladbrokes) - Joint top weight here, this horse comes with a major chance in this company. This horse has shown nothing so far this term but that only helps the price, now it is dropped 2 grades and 4lb in the handicap. Hails from an unfashionable yard but the yard is 1 from 1 with its flat runners in the last 14 days whilst both the jockey and trainer have nice course figures. Won its last start here, off the same mark as today but down in grade over 5f. Likely to be suited by the extra furlong. Was a progressive type in this grade early last term before its progression evened out faced with some more difficult challenges. Since upped to marks in the 60's, has recorded figures of 6th in a Class 5 on ground too soft, 2nd in a Class 5, a disappointing 5th in this grade, a no show over 7f on the AW before winning here. On its return this season, finished unpl on the AW again over a distance too far, before its lto run at Windsor on wrong ground, wrong grade and too high a mark. That has served to bring its mark right down and I expect this to be day where it comes back to form with a bang at super odds.

Re: Salisbury (eve) 21/5/09 Had this win only earlier, now added a place bet.... 8.45 Salisbury Theologist makes his handicap debut off a mark of 67 here for Amanda Perrett and, stepping up in trip, I fancy him to make the frame. He shaped as though he would relish a step up in trip when third at Leicester last time out, has been fairly well supported throughout the course of the day, and has George Baker on top, so has plenty of things in his favour. 2.24 Betfair for the place.
