Trotter
A few random thoughts about traditional EW betting at the bookies....... Take a standard example.........you fancy a 10/1 shot and back it EW, usual terms - fifth odds 1,2,3...........a pound EW. If it wins........you win £ 10 on your win bet and £ 2 on the place - that's £ 12 for a £ 2 stake or 6/1 So if the horse wins you've got 6/1 about your 10/1 shot. If it places you win £ 2............£ 2 stake, £ 2 won = Evens. So if the horse 'places' you've got Evens about your 10/1 shot....... Another way of putting it...........you're taking 3/5ths odds the win and 1/10th odds the place.......... Not very good is it...............:lol
Trotter
Re: EW Betting - Bookies .........and another thing..........and this might be straying a bit off the beaten path.............. If you think about it it's actually harder to select a horse to finish second than it is to select a horse to win. To select a horse to win you have to find the best horse in the race on the day. To select a horse to finish 2nd you also have to find the best horse in the race on the day..........that's the one that will finish first. Then you have to find the next best of the other runners to finish second. That's gotta be twice as hard as just finding the winner So I reckon the odds for selecting the 2nd should be bigger than the odds for finding the winner. Needless to say the odds for finding the 3rd should be even bigger still............. What a rip-off EW betting is !................;)
