Burley also revealed that four or five players in his squad for the double-header are injury concerns. The national manager would only divulge that striker Garry O'Connor of Birmingham City and Preston defender Callum Davidson are carrying knocks.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Brazil could be worth opposing at Chile. The knives are out for Dunga big time after the disappointment in China, and Chile is traditionally a very tough place to go to pick up a result. I've been trying to find results, and I can see that they beat Brazil in 2000 at home, and drew with them in 2004, not sure if they've played them at home since then.

Macedonia also changed the kickoff time as it will now be played at 1400 instead of a nightime kickoff, so as to played in blistering heat. I reckon Belarus could be a value bet in Ukraine on the handicap betting, Bate qualifying for the champions league from Belarus and Hleb also in team must have them a decent outfit - 10.00 is generous IMO

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Odds are very generous as well on Montenegro. Both teams are better forward and having shaky defenders. No way is Montenegro going to hide or play for a point - great attacking potential to compensate doubtful defenders. IMO the case with Bulgaria is exactly the same, top class forwards and defenders from local leagues. I don't see a better game for Over 2,5 goals, outside those with odds around 1,20 for the favourites. Montenegro in Hungary and especially Bulgaria in Bosnia were wide open at the back - for sure Managers will concentrate on improving defense, but it doesn't happen within 4-5 days training.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 1: Current standings: Cameroon 10 Cape Verde 9 Tanzania 2 Mauritius 1 Obviously Mauritius v Tanzania is a meaningless fixture. Neither has any chance -even mathematically- to qualify to the final stage. Cape verde v Cameroon though is a decider. Cameroon will need a point to stay atop, while Cape Verde will be hoping for a win or will have to wait for a best 2nd placed slot, which is a bit hard considering their last game is in Tanzania (where very few teams can collect 3 points). Preliminary prediction: Draw

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 2: Current standings: Guinea 7 Kenya 7 Zimbabwe 5 Namibia 3 Namibia are almost out of the race, and a trip to Nairobi should prove the official disqualification ticket for them. Zimbabwe are in a must-win situation at home vs Guinea, although a draw would still keep their chances alive. Kenya are almost guaranteed a place in the final stages, and winning their home game vs Namibia will confirm it, as Namibia will be officially the bottom team, and that means the lonley loss of Kenya will be overlooked in the 2nd placed teams race. (Best 2nd places are calculated based on the 4 games vs top and 3rd placed teams only) In sum, Kenya should win at home to book their place in the last 20, while Zimbabwe are likely not to lose to Guinea. Preliminary prediction: Kenya win, Zimbabwe Draw

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 3: Current standings: Benin 9 Angola 7 Uganda 7 Niger 0 Uganda are usually bad travellers, but the point they secured at Angola gives them every right to hope for a place in the final stage. They must win their home game against Benin though in the final round, but a win in Niger this round will slightly improve their situation, especially if Benin beats Angola. The Benin - Angola confrontation could be decessive fo both sides. benin wins and they are through, while Angola will be almost out. A draw preserves both sides chances, but Angola will have an easy home fixture vs Niger while Benin will travel to Kampala. Preliminary prediction: Both games to end in Draws

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 4: Current standings: Nigeria 12 South Africa 4 Sierra Leone 4 Eq. Guinea 3 Nigeria are the only team -thus far- to guarantee the top of their group, and are likely to field an experimental side at South Africa. They are almost guarantee a top seed position in the final stage as well, so they should be indifferent. South Africa though won't be. Winning this game is a must if they are to stand any chance of playing in the last 20. It's true they are automatically qualified for the WC as the host nation, but these are also the CAF 2010 qualifiers, and it would be quite an embarrassement not to be plaing in Angola just 5 months before the WC finals. Sierra Leone v Eq. Guinea is a fixture where only one side can survive. Unless South Africa fails to win over Nigeria, a drawcould see them both eliminated. Preliminary prediction: South Africa & Sierra Leone both Win

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 5: Current standings: Ghana 9 Libya 9 Gabon 6 Lisotho 0 Gabon will face a tricky trip to Lesotho, although they seem solid enough to collect the 3 points somehow. The real battle will be in tripoli with Libya needing a point at home to stay above Gabon, while Ghana should not really worry, as their last game will be at home vs Lesotho and that should be a true banker. Libya are a confusing squad. They could be really tough on their day, but could be quite disappointing in an off day, but in 3 home games vs Ghana they won once and have drawn twice before, so with this being a decider, and the visitors impartial and even having a new coach in command, Libya are likely to produce a positive result. Preliminary Prediction: Libya and Gabon both Win

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 6: Current standings: Senegal 8 Algeria 6 Gambia 5 Liberia 2 Senegal seem to know what they want from their games. They are not as invincible as they once were, but still unbeaten in these qualifiers, winning 2 home games an drawing 2 on the road. Algeria lost both games on teh road, but still won both home games, so it's going to be a cracking fixture, especially with Senegal narrowly managing a 1-0 home win over Algeria in a game that they should have won had it not been for poor finishing. Gambia must win at home to stayn in the run, but they're up for a mountain to climb in the last game in Dakkar anyway. Due to teams dropping points to opponents on the travel, the 2nd of this group is likely to miss out on the final stage, which adds more spice to the game in Alger. Preliminary Prediction: Gambia to Win and Algeria - Senegal to end in a Draw

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 7: Current standings: Cote d'Ivoire 8 Botswana 5 Mozambique 4 Madagascar 3 The Ivoirians have caused punters lots of concern in the previous 2 outings on teh road. Due to a super team -on paper- everybody expects them to easily beat lesser opposition anywhere anytime, but they have failed to win in either of their previous two travels. Mozambique are away at Botswana next, and with ahome loss to them earlier in these qualifiers they are logically out of the race already, although they still have a theoritical chance. Madgascar drew twice at home and once on teh road and are likely to end up at the very bottom, which would mean the Ivoirians will progress either way (even if they finish in an unlikely 2nd position). Botswana's chances seem to be the strongest of the 3 (other than Cote d'Ivoire). A drawat Madagascar and a home win over Mozambique will take them through to the next stage, and neither is asking too much either. Preliminary Prediction: Both games to end in Draws

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 8: Current standings: Morocco 9 Rwanda 9 Ethiopia 6 Mauritania 0 The postponement of Ethipia v Morocco (due to suspension of Ethiopian federation by FIFA) means Rwanda are likely to temporarily top the group by the weeken as they visit a disappointing Mauritania whom have scored twice and conceded 14 in the previous 4 games. Both Morocco and Rwanda should end up advancing to the final 20, and there's no point in opposing either 9unless FIFA reschedules the game of Morocco in Ethiopia in an unconvenient date for the Moroccans). Preliminary Prediction: Rwanda Win

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 9: Current standings: Burfina Faso 12 Tunisia 9 Burundi 3 Seychelles 0 Even in the unlikely event of Tunisis winning in Burkina Faso, and Burundi winning over Burkina is the last game, after they collect 3 points in Seychelles, Burundi are still unlikely to make up for a 10 goals deficit. A more likely scenario is Tunisia to draw (or lose) in Burkina Faso, but they have 3 points in their pocket in the last game at home vs Seychelles, so Burundi are practically out already. The question though is whether Tunisia can avoid a loss in Burkina Faso, as -if a loss occurs- they'd be on 6 points in the 2nd placed teams race, and they will have a 50-50 chance of qualifying. On the other hand, Burkina will want to get the full 3 points to guarantee theit top status regardless of the final round results. It also helps them in the seeding for the final round, so the game is unpredictable. Preliminary Prediction: Burundi Win, Burkina - Tunisia Draw

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 10: Current standings: Mali 9 Congo 6 Chad 3 Sudan 3 I dunno what FIFA were thinking, deciding CAiro should be the "neutral" venue for Sudan vs Chad (and Chad vs Sudan 4 days later). Not only will Egyptian fans be backing Sudan fully, but there are SEVEN MILLION Sudanese living in Egypt. This is as good as playing both fixtures in Khartoum (or Umm Durman) Although Congo won both home fixtures, they are not likely to win over Mali, and even if they do they'll end up losing in Umm Durman in the final round, so Mali and Sudan to top the group and advance together in the only logical deduction. Preliminary Prediction: Congo - Mali to end in a draw, Sudan to win both fixtures vs Chad over the weekend an mid-week.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 11: Current standings: Swaziland 4 Zambia 4 Togo 3 Quite confusing this group is, and anything can happen here. Zambia's last fixture this weekend is a must win (against Togo), but that woul mean Togo are eliminated (much to the disappointment of Adebayor, I'm sure). Anything but a win though, and Zambia are out, unless Togo draws to Swaziland at a "to be decided" home venue. I'd rather pass on this one in particular. Neither side is reliable enough to be backed.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 12: Current standings: DR Congo 9 Egypt 9 Malawi 6 Djibouti 0 23 goals in Djibouti's net in just 4 games says it all. malawi t win in Djibouti is a banker. DR Congo hosting Egypt will be HOT. The Pharoahs have been unconvincing of late, and the latest 0-4 defeat to Sudan in Khartoum in a friendly says it all. On the other hand, a loss at Kinshasa could leave Egypt on the verge of being eliminated. The fans are hoping Zaki and Mido will take their EPL forms with them to Kinshasa, but they're unlikely to play together with Shehata insisting Met'eb should start each and every game, eventhough he hasn't scored in almost a year. Preliminary Prediction: Malawi to Win, and no bet on DR Congo - Egypt

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) African Qualifiers preliminary Preview: In sum, preliminary predictions are only meant to shed some light on the overall situation, but the team news could make much of a difference. For those who are interested in accummulators; Malawi & Sudan are bankers. Rwanda and Kenya are very likely winners, while Libya and Burkina are to be taken not to lose. Other games should only be approched with caution, and considered as singles or in doubles at best.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Asian Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 1: Bahrain and Japan are once again in the same group. They have been drawn together earlier in the previous stage, and Bahrain won at home, while Japan won the home game in injury time. That game meant nothing though as both were already qualified. Seeing as Bahrain are a very much improved squad and have already managed to beat Japan in Manama convincingly, they shoul be winners of the 1st fixture of the group as well, but there's always the possibility of a draw in opening fixtures. Qatar vs Uzbekistan could be tricky. I've never been comfortable backing the Qatari "international" squad. A Uruguayan, a Senegalese, an Egyptian.. etc. I wonder how many of them memorise the Qatari national anthem. In fact, many don't even speak Arabic!!! The Uzbek are quite good an have pace, but sometimes they play too fast for their own good. Still I think they should win in Doha. Preliminary Prediction: Bahrain and UIzbekistan to Win Recommened bet: bahrain on double chance Next round: Qatar v bahrain, Uzbekistan v Australia

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Asian Qualifiers preliminary Preview: Group 2: North Korea went through the previous stage of qualifications without conceding. They hardly score themsleves, but they have a solid defence, and I suspect the game at the UAE should end goalless. Saudi Arabia hosting Iran is a dangerous fixture for both sides. The Saudis are solid at home, but they are -generally- not at their best, while Iran seemed quite poor at the first 3 games of the previous stage, but manage to pick up their form in the last 3 games. I don't see Iran winning in Saudi Arabia, but I'm not willing to bet on a Saudi outright win. (Maybe on level ball though). Preliminary Prediction: Saudi Arabia Win, UAE - DPR Korea to Draw (or under 1.5 goals) Recommened bet: UAE - Korea Correct Score: 0-0

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Some quality posting youssef :ok that Sudan reading is interesting. Another Euro tie that is interesting me is Cyprus v Italy - Like Belarus, Cyprus have got a representative into the c.l for the 1st time disposing of Olympiakos convincingly at home and can recall them turning Ireland over in Cyprus lately - very noisy and passionate home crowd will be well up for this 1st match of the qualifiers. Italy both at club and international level are notoriously terrible starters, always start these competitions very slowly then up the ante in the latter stages when it matters, dissapointing euros and new boss will hint tome this will be a cagey start from the Italians, PaddyPower go 1.90 for Cyprus + 2 which is value IMO.

A good one. Started writting a similar thing early today, no time. The Cypriot football improved much recently on club level, it is only normal to expect some good performances by them on international level, especially at home. As of Italy slow starters sounds conservative - it becomes a habit now to expect Italy to go through in the last couple of rounds and thanks to other teams' mistakes. A brave bet would be +1,25, though reading what names would be in Italian squad one would expect an easy win. If I am wrong at least I would know what to expect next time Cyprus is at home...

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Excellent stuff Youssef! Nice to see some good info from an insider. The odds for Sudan are 1.65, but so you consider this as a banker? So the main reason for this would be the crowd support and therefore the 'home advantage' or should we take something else into consideration? What about Macedonia at home against Scotland. The visitors have lot of injuries an will be happy with a draw here I think. Macedonia had quite a lot of decent results lately:

20/08/2008 International Friendlies Luxembourg vs. Macedonia W - 1:4
26/05/2008 International Friendlies Poland vs. Macedonia D - 1:1
26/03/2008 International Friendlies Bosnia & Herz. vs. Macedonia D - 2:2
06/02/2008 International Friendlies Macedonia vs. Serbia D - 1:1
21/11/2007 Euro Cup, Qualification Group E Israel vs. Macedonia L - 1:0
17/11/2007 Euro Cup, Qualification Group E Macedonia vs. Croatia W - 2:0
A good option would be Macedonia [email protected] or [email protected] Also thinking about putting an Under 2.5 on Wales-Azerbeidzjan. Wales are missing some important strikers and Azerbeidjan recent results proof they are not a walkover.
27/08/2008 International Friendlies Iran vs. Azerbaijan L - 1:0
20/08/2008 International Friendlies Iceland vs. Azerbaijan D - 1:1
26/03/2008 International Friendlies Lithuania vs. Azerbaijan L - 1:0
21/11/2007 Euro Cup, Qualification Group A Azerbaijan vs. Belgium L - 0:1
17/11/2007 Euro Cup, Qualification Group A Finland vs. Azerbaijan L - 2:1

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Price on Israel 2.30 looks good against Switzerland. Any more good straight bets in the WC qualifiers I just can't find. Bulgaria around 2.00 away vs Montenegro maybe or Trinidad at home vs Guatemala. Really can't see any good bets this weekend other then this and some usual overs/unders. Luton Town in league 2 looks like a winner.

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Argentina - Paraguay (+1.5) AW 1.80 5/10 There's no doubt that Argentina is a good team, and looks like the attacking combo will be Di Maria-Riquelme-Messi and Tevez, which looks scary for any opponent, but the truth is that our NT is not really effective yet. On the other hand, Paraguay, leader so far in the qualifiers, is a strong team. Very solid in defense, and has a good attack. Even if Cabañas and SantaCruz probably won't play, they still have dangerous attackers like Valdez and Cardozo. Last 10 games : 29/8/1993 Buenos Aires Elimnatorias Estados Unidos 1994 0-0 14/6/1995 Rosario (Santa Fe) Amistoso 2-1 1/9/1996 Buenos Aires Eliminatorias Francia 1998 1-1 17/6/1997 Cochabamba Copa América 1-1 6/7/1997 Asunción Eliminatorias Francia 1998 2-1 16/8/2000 Buenos Aires Eliminatorias Corea/Japón 2002 1-1 7/10/2001 Asunción Eliminatorias Corea/Japón 2002 2-2 6/6/2004 Buenos Aires Eliminatorias Alemania 2006 0-0 3/9/2005 Asunción Eliminatorias Alemania 2006 0-1 5/7/2007 Barquisimeto Copa América 1-0 ...and we could add the Olympics 2004 finals that Argentina won 1-0. Handicap too big, worth a shot with this odds. :)

Good post ciclon :ok How is Riquelme playing back home now ? I think the guy ouses class and controls just about any game he plays in, very tidy player.
Since he came back from the Olympics he played one game, 2-2 in 2nd leg of Recopa (like UEFA Supercup), didn't play well but scored the draw in the last minute by FK. Then got injured and didn't play last weekend. He's been injured a lot this year, didn't help Boca much...

Re: World Cup 2010: Matches ( 05/06/07-10/11 09 2008 ) Montenegro starts their first ever qualifying campaign at home against Bulgaria, eager to get good result in the opening game. In their recent friendly games, they have shown good performances, but it is clear they lack some experience at the big stage. The atmosphere in Podgorica will be inflammable, as the whole nation expects victory. Bulgaria is always near the top of their group in the qualifications but rarely manages to qualify for the big tournament. Every point will be important in this pretty evenly matched group, and the visitors will try to pick some points from the start. Montenegro plays their first competitive match Whole nation eagerly expects the start of this game, and everybody believes that their team can win the game. Ever since gaining independence from Serbia two years ago the team has been preparing for this game by playing a lot of friendly games. They had some good results, but also showed they lack some experience in Europe. The team is led by Zoran Filipović, highly regarded coach in both Serbia and Montenegro. Most of the players started their career in Serbia, and chose to play for Montenegro purely for footballing reasons. Most famous players in this squad are Roma striker Mirko Vučinić and Rapid midfielder Branko Bošković. There are some very talented younger players, such as Burzanović and Jovetić. All the players are fit, and eager to step onto the pitch. Bulgaria will miss Martin Petrov Ever since their biggest World Cup success in 1994, when they had finished fourth, Bulgaria has been struggling to qualify for the big tournament. They have the chance in these qualifications as the group is not so strong, but no less than four teams hope they can qualify from this group. The start is always important, and if the Bulgarians win this first game everything is possible. Only six home-based players made this squad, but even the others are not playing in the big leagues of Europe. The exceptions are Dimitar Berbatov, the latest addition to Manchester United, and Aston Villa midfielder Stilian Petrov. Another big name, Martin Petrov, will miss this game through injury. Considering he is one of the key players, Bulgaria’s chances are severely reduced by his injury. Betting verdict The home team will be very motivated in their first ever qualifying game. They will have the help of their supporters, and the backing of the whole nation. The hosts have a good squad, and if they can show their potential, they will give the opponents something to worry about. The visitors are not very consistent lately, but they defeated Bosnia in their last friendly. Bulgaria will miss very important player Martin Petrov, and we believe that Montenegro is closer to winning this game. We will add double chance just as insurance.
