Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Very Unsatisfying A series of escalating preflop raises. Three players, all in before the flop. Two with their lives on the line, another facing imminent ruin. Each thinking that winning this pot would give them a big stack early in the event that could possibly, possibly, propel them to the World Championship. The players reveal their hands: ax.gifkx.gifax.gifkx.gifax.gifkx.gif Rainbow flop, chop it up. Back to the grind.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event 486d859a06378.jpg Tuan Lam Eliminated 2007 WSOP Main Event runner-up Tuan Lam has just been eliminated. Lam got the last of his chips all in preflop with kx.gifqx.gif, only to find his hand dominated by his opponent's ax.gifkx.gif. A king hit the flop, but Lam could not improve and he hit the rail shortly before the dinner break.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event 486d984685e0b.jpg Gray Folds Kings Preflop! A player opened with a preflop raise to 1,000 before Craig Gray raised it up to 3,000. His opponent then moved all in, and Gray went into the tank. He must've picked up a tell as he decided to lay down his pocket kings preflop! What a read it was as his opponent flashed pocket aces! Gray survives the cold-deck and will go to dinner with a story to tell.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Bluffing the Big Stack In the first hand back from break, we came on a table where one of our current leaders, David Rheem, was facing a 25,000 bet on the river. The pot held over 30,000. The board read js.gifjh.gif7s.gifjc.gif5h.gif. Rheem was in the tank for several minutes. He told his opponent he had queens. His opponent offered to show Rheem his hand if he folded, and Rheem did. His opponent showed 10s.gif8s.gif. Rheem is still near the top of the board with around 80,000.

His opponent made two pair on the flop and a full house on the turn to eliminate Helppi from the Main Event.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event I thought this only happened online!!! 486da2fd53efd.jpg Quad Aces are Good, Right? ... RIGHT? Motoyuki "Moto" Mabuchi raises to 850 in middle position and the button calls. The flop is ax.gifqd.gif9x.gif and both check. The turn is 10d.gif and Moto bets 1,600. The button calls. The river is da.gif and Moto bets 2,500. The button raises to 8,500 and Moto reraises all in. The button calls. Moto shows ax.gifax.gif for quad aces, but the button has kd.gifjd.gif for the royal flush. Moto is eliminated in stunning fashion.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Now, now girls! Linda Lee vs. Erica Schoenberg Linda Lee had been turned around in her chair, talking to some rail friends while a hand was dealt in. The dealer paused rather than mucking her hand, and Erica Schoenberg raised a fuss about it. Linda turned back around and began jawing with Erica. The argument has spilled over to their respective boyfriends, with Linda extolling hers, Avery Cardoza, and picking on Erica's, David Benyamine.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event 486dc0c9b4a48.jpg Slezak Seeking Another Deep Run Bob Slezak has moved to amongst our chip leaders to now sit with 93,000 in chips. Bob has a liking for the WSOP Main Event as he finished 15th in this same event last year for a payday of over $400,000. Bob is a bracelet winner from back in 1991 when he took down the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo event, and with one cash at this year's WSOP, will be looking for another deep run this year!

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Was It Worth It? We recently had an interesting hand involving Simon "The Bubble" Zach in which before the flop there was a raise, a reraise, a third bet, then a fourth bet. Zach and his opponent made it to the turn with the board showing Q-8-2-2. Zach bet out, and his opponent folded. "I'll give you $100 if you show me your hand," his opponent said as he folded. "Make it $200," said Zach. "I don't have $200," came the reply. But after a quick wallet check he discovered that yes, in fact, he had right at $200. He paid the required sum, and Zach showed him J-9.

In the following hand, Barry Greenstein and another player are all in, with Greenstein "waking up" to kd.gifks.gif in the small blind and the opponent holding kx.gifqx.gif on the button. The board is da.gif6c.gif9d.gif8s.gif2d.gif and Greenstein doubles up to 21,000.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Some People Call Me... Maurice Hawkins has an interesting story of how he ended up here in the Main Event. It seems he played in the $1,000 at Bellagio and an opponent folded J-J to Hawkins' Q-Q. Hawkins called him the best poker player he had ever seen. On another day, they run into each other at the $1,000 at Bellagio again. They strike up a friendship and the player offers to stake Maurice in the Main Event, 50/50. So now Maurice is here, and has 60,000.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event Schoenberg Shown Door A short-stacked Erica Schoenberg just found herself all in before the flop against Ellen Narkis, with a third player whom Narkis also had covered also having committed the last of his chips. Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event End of Day 1a After months of anticipation, poker's greatest spectacle, the Main Event of the World Series of Poker, has finally begun. Following a grand introduction by Wayne "Mr. Vegas" Newton and the UNLV Marching Band, the first of our four "Day Ones" finally kicked off sometime after noon today. Day 1a saw a total of 1,297 players come out to test their fortunes. Many more have already registered, although the total number of entrants for the event is yet to be determined. Even so, many in the Amazon Room are currently speculating that number may well exceed last year's total of 6,358. Our end of day chip leaders were able to grow their starting stacks of 20,000 up toward and past the 200,000-chip mark, with Mark Garner, Kellen Hunter, Patrick Fortin, Stefan Mattsson, Jeff Frerichs, Todd Rebello, Brandon Adams, Mojgan Stringham, Bryan Colin, and Kido Pham ending the day among our most prolific collectors of others' chips. About half of those who came out today made it through the first five levels and will be back to play on Day 2a. Several notables saw their 2008 WSOP Main Event dreams dashed before the day completed, including Josh Arieh, Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul, Dan Harrington, Joe Sebok, Freddy Deeb, David Benyamine, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Eli Elezra, Lyle Berman, Erica Schoenberg, "Miami" John Cernuto, Gavin Smith, J.J. Liu, and 2007 Main Event runner-up Tuan Lam. Official updated chip counts for Day 1a participants will be posted later on tonight. Thanks for following today's coverage, and be sure to come back tomorrow at noon Vegas time for Day 1b of the 39th Annual World Series of Poker Main Event.

Re: Live reporting for WSOP Main Event No I.D. for Forrest Ted Forrest sat down at his table a little while ago and was asked for a photo I.D. from the dealer. He pulled out his Total Rewards cards and gave it to the dealer. The dealer looked at it, but then still requested a photo I.D. of Forrest. Forrest checked his pockets, but didn't have any identification with a photo on it. He tried giving the dealer another card, but it still didn't work. After a few moments, the floor was called over and when the floor person looked at the Total Rewards card they chuckled and said "Don't worry, he's okay." First Bust of the Day On a river of 9d.gif10s.gif8s.gif9s.gifkc.gif, Stephan Ladowsky is all in with 9c.gif9h.gif to his opponent's kx.gifkx.gif. The kings get cracked, and what a way to go.
