Euro 2004 Qualifiers 02/04/03

Recommended Posts

Looking for an early start to this, cause I'm going to a game on Wednesday, so heading off soon. Still looking for value, rather than obvious greedy odds on shots which wont bring much back on my small stakes, couple of stand outs: 2 Apr-20:00 England v Turkey 1.72 3.10 4.50 2 Apr-20:00 Northern Ireland v Greece 3.40 3.00 2.00 1st very good X2, and excellent 2 for Greece Another which might be a consideration is: 2 Apr-19:00 Estonia v Bulgaria 4.33 3.20 1.72 1X, but depends on Bulgaria injury situation a bit, heard Petrov for one picked up an injury in last weeks friendly in Serbia.

I agree I agree m8... Turket look great value @ 4.5 (taking the emotion out of the equation). Just a thought ... do bookies adjust their live odds a England supporters whack on their "patriotic" bets in the run up to the match or do they hold firm. I would have thought that tote odds would reduce as more punters back England? Mike

Errrrr.. Are Scotland playing Rugby in Lithuania on Wed? Because I cannot understand why they are odds on? Lithuania could have beaten germany on Saturday, they had a couple of chances to win the game late on:eek Their sails will be up now & they may even fancy their chances of qualifiying(a win here puts them joint top) Did'nt Italy only come away with a 0-0 in the 02 World Cup Qualifiers? Also Turkey look great value. They gave Brazil a torrid time in the world cup and I don't think playing at The Stadium of Light will give this lacklustre England team any extra confidence:lol My Bet Turkey x2 Lithuania 1x Holland

Re: Errrrr.. Are Scotland playing Rugby in Lithuania on Wed? agree the VALUE is def. with 1X on this one. However, I will be going with Scotland on this one, despite the odds on (away from home against a team like Lithuania this is ridiculous). Lithuania, did lose away to Iceland 3-0, but only after having a player sent off, and by some accounts they were actually the better team (despite losing 3-0, what other game than Football could anyone say that?). Another thing to consider in this game, if looking at it, it is very late at night and cant help thinking these conditions wont suit Scotland, or am I thinking about me in the uncovered stands? All respect to Lithuania, but I think 1-1 against Germany says more about their (Ger.) relatively poor standard at the moment (especially scoring goals) than it does about Lithuania. Germany did win 2-0 away.

Hmmm What are the thoughts on Albania - Ireland. Theres no doubt the Republic need the win but will they get it? I dont fancy Turkey at all. I am as pis*ed of as anyone over England recently but this is their chance to put in a good performance and win the match and fans (remember Munich)

Re: Hmmm England are no value at all. I'm sure 99% will agree with that. Albania look a very good price to me, I would put Russia and Eire on a par to be honest and the fact that Ireland struggled to beat a worse side than Albania in Georgia (IMO) then Albanias 3/1 quote does look a little big.

Re: Hmmm I've been planning on backing Turkey even before England;s shite performance on Saturday. How are Turkey 7/2 ?? England have regularly turned in their worst performances for home matches, (Italy, Germany, Greece, Macedonia), plus Turkey are no mugs these days, and those odds for a team that finished 3rd in the World Cup is insulting.

... Hello, here are my picks. Feedback would be really nice! England - Turkey Pick 1 1.80 primebet.com I think England will be win against Turkey at home. England have so many top- players and should win without any real problems against Turkey. Turkey won all of their 3 Games - England won only 2 and played at home 2-2 against Macedonia so they have to fight against Turkey at home now! In 9 meetings England won 7 ! Slovenia - Cyprus Pick 1 1.30 For me a little banker. Slowenien is better than Cyprus and Slovenia is in a situation where they have to win. They have only 3 Points from 2 Games- they lost 0-5 against France- but in my opinion they should win against Zypern. 4. Slovenia 2 1 0 1 3:5 -2 3. Cyprus 3 1 1 1 4:4 0 4 And a friendly: Macedonia- Portugal (neutral ground) 2 1,35 primebet Thanks a lot and good luck.

Albania v Eire Matt, - I reckons u could have highlighted a very good bet for the neutral. Home win is 4/1 and draw 5/2 (powers) - but as a spud picker myself i couldnt bet on it - to watch the game and pray for an irish win will be enough to keep me on edge. I rem watching the English game against Albania a couple of years ago in WC2002 qualifiers, and although england won 3-1, the score was kinda flattering for yous. Now they have this new german manager and if his first result is anything to go by(3-1 v Russia) then Irelands chances of getting 3 pts here is going to be pretty though. It was hard to judge Irelands performance on satrurday - with a depleated squad and a very intimidating atmostphere - a 2-1 result was all that mattered. Although i thought our of chances getting a result in georgia werent great - going to albania will be a different story altogether. The return of robbie k will be a massive boost and if kerr drops carsely and puts duffer out on the left - and sticks with doc and robbie upfront - we'll be in with a chance of nickin something. But the 1x is a good bet for the neutral - or for any unloyal paddy out there :lol CMON OOIRELAN!!!!!

Re: Albania v Eire Stayed away from the internationals (and most footy) at the weekend but I am attracted by the AH bet of Turkey +0.5 at 2.00 with Premierbet. I am not saying Turkey will win but if you look at Englands last 3 performances (Liechtenstein, Australia, Macedonia) then there is nothing convincing in them. The Turks have a good strong squad, they are becoming more confident and less imtimidated at playing the "bigger" nations and they have a lot of experience, especially at the back. Check out this months World Soccer, lists a very nice squad for them. They would be happy with a draw, and so would I for my bet to be a winner. Albania may also be worth a look on the AH at +0.75. Ireland do have a habit of winning these sort of games but the Albanian win cannot be ignored at the weekend. Will be possibly taking an interest in them at 1.80. Greece may also be worth a look at -0.25 or even outright (2.22 with Betfair), N Ireland just appear to be a team going nowhere at the moment.

England-Turkey Agree with all that the English are no value absolutely here nerd.gif But, England has always had motivational problems/arrogance perhaps towards the "smaller" nations and friendlies imho - whoever the coach has been eek.gif This does not excuse the shambles in Liechtenstein, but when the English know they're up against a very decent opponent in a vital match they usually decide to turn up (except Italy 97 and Germany 2000!) laugh.gif This is no reason to play them for sure, but I expect them to at least play a lot better and take something from the table. Eriksson might have been blowing a lot of games recently, but only Brazil has beaten him in a competitive match

Matt us against albania will be tough but i can see us winning, maybe by more than 1 - especially if we get an early goal, and with quality front men like duff and keane it isnt that unlikely! i wont bet on the outcome but ill have duff and keane first goalscorer

Re: Matt It looks better the more I get into it to be honest. Russia and Switzerland have both gone to Albiania and not come away with a win so I see no reason as to why Ireland are odds-on for this match. Cant remember who said it I agree but the 3-1 really flattered England, if you remember Albania had a goal disallowed to make it 2-2 about 5 mintes before the end as well. They wernt no mugs when they came back to england either, only beaten 2-0 and one of them was a late goal to finish them off.

Matches Im not a big fan of low odds in Internationals but looking at what is available Czech Republic can be found at 1.55 at Globet(as opposed to 1.3 most places) to overcome Austria. And with Austrias injuries and the Czech class at the moment this should be a comfortable home victory.

Re: Czech Republic vs Austria this match is the biggest gift bookies ever priced up. I still cant believe those odds....even the 1.33 most firms have is outstanding value....in saying this I want to add that during the last couple of years I hadn´t backed a match below 1.6. The Austrian bookies know our team and therefore go: Interwetten 1.2 Bet&Win 1.2 Schwechat 1.2 Admiral 1.15 Wettpunkt 1.25 and after just 2 hours they reduced the stake per person to €10...LOL Facts: - Our (best) team lost 0-3 to Holland at home without the dutch players breaking into sweat - this time 8 regulars are missing due to injury and three of the players that were called into the squad I dont even know despite following our league - before we played Holland manager Hans Krankl predicted a win (he is always that confident) - today he told us that he would be happy with a draw against the Czechs...now what else can he say ??...u wont expect a manager to say "We will lose it". Prediction: to add to the other thread for correct scores I would go for a 3-0 or 4-0 home win with probably a higher result popping up if the Czechs decide to play full strength for the whole 90 minutes but I doubt this as the game in Holland at the weekend will still be in their feet. Summary: each betting slip without the Czech Republic is a wasted one greetings from Vienna

RE- Czech were apparently priced up wrong at Globet and now are 1.30! Contemplating whether they are worth a bet at these odds or not. Bet365 go 4/11 which is the best available now

England - Turkey Would the current situation in the middleeast have any influence on the players of Turkey?. I'm think of backing Turkey for several reasons: * England are definetly not convincing at home, as someone earlier mentioned. * Turkey played indeed very well during the World Cup, and it seems they havent completely lost the touch. * In a game like this I have this feeling that non-football-topics like religion and politics have something to say in the minds of the Turkish players. * Players like Beckham, Owen, Heskey seems abit tired, and deserves a holiday soon. All the games they have played so far this season, is maybe not such an advantage in game like this. So value to me is going for Turkey in a double with Chech Rep.

treble? Some of the prices appear ?? on the good side for Weds night: France 1.33 away at Israel (this is on a neutral ground?) Portugal 4/11 away at macedonia (friendly - is it wise?) Czech 1.33 - for same reasons as previous posts. They are better than Austria (simple!) Rep of Ire - 8/11 away at Albania? Might have to avoid this & go for the over 2 goals bet instead which will be better price 10/11. In fact, i'll try to see what I can get for over 2 goals on most of these games. 1 bet so far: FRANCE CZECH .... DOUBLE PAYS 1.77

Re: England-Turkey I was reading yesterdays Racing Post and I think it was Corals odds compiler who was interviewed and he admitted the only reason that England are priced so low is because they would have had to eventually bring the price down anyway due to "patriotic punting". With the British bookmakers then offering such low odds on England, non of the European bookies want to get stung by offering a better price. Also, how about 0-1 goals in The north v Greece? I know the North will not score more than one and Greece's away form is nothing to get excited about. Correct score on this I'd cover 0-0 and Greece 1-0.

International Footie Tips 2/Mar/2003 Fristly here's a rough summary of the groups so far; Group 1 Pld Pts France 4 12 Israel 2 4 Cyprus 3 4 Slovenia 2 3 Malta 5 0 Group 3 Pld Pts Czech Republic 3 7 Netherlands 3 7 Austria 3 6 Belarus 4 3 Moldova 3 0 Group 5 Pld Pts Scotland 3 7 Germany 3 7 Lithuania 4 4 Iceland 3 3 Faroe Islands 3 1 Group 7 Pld Pts Turkey 3 9 England 3 7 Slovakia 3 3 F.Y.R. Macedonia 4 2 Liechtenstein 3 1 Group 9 Pld Pts Wales 4 12 Italy 4 7 Serbia-Montenegro 3 5 Finland 4 3 Azerbaijan 5 1 Group 2 Pld Pts Denmark 3 7 Norway 3 7 Romania 4 6 Bosnia-Herzegovina3 3 Luxembourg 3 0 Group 4 Pld Pts Latvia 3 7 Hungary 3 5 Poland 3 4 Sweden 2 2 San Marino 3 0 Group 6 Pld Pts Spain 3 7 Ukraine 4 6 Armenia 3 4 Greece 3 3 Northern Ireland 3 1 Group 8 Pld Pts Bulgaria 3 9 Belgium 4 6 Croatia 3 4 Estonia 2 1 Andorra 2 0 Group 10 Pld Pts Switzerland 3 7 Russia 3 6 Albania 3 4 Republic of Ireland 3 3 Georgia 2 0 Here's the Fixtures + importantly the tiimes they all start at; Estonia vs Bulgaria 4:00 Croatia vs Andorra 5:00 Georgia vs Switzerland 5:00 Albania vs Rep. of Ireland 5:30 Slovakia vs Leichtenstein 6:00 Denmark vs Bosnia 6:15 Lithuania vs Scotland 7:00 Luxembourg vs Norway 7:00 Moldova vs Holland 7:00 Poland vs San Marino 7:00 Hungary vs Sweden 7:15 Slovenia vs Cyrpus 7:15 Czech Republic vs Austria 7:30 Israel vs France 7:45 England vs Turkey 8:00 Northern Ireland vs Greece 8:00 Spain vs Armenia 8:45 Bankers first; ********************************************** (*) Tip - Israel vs France This match is only going to go one way IMO, and is easily the best priced of all the bankers with prices around 1/3 to 2/5. Israel are poorer than usual, and as I tipped at the weekend Cyprus ran them close and got a point like I said they would. What chance do they have against France - NONE - France are better in every position on the pitch, and Wiltord, Henry and Trezeguet are boung to score a coupe here. Add in the fact that this match is on neutral ground makes this a match to lump on IMO. Confidence; France to win on a Neutral Venue - 9.5/10 ********************************************** Poland vs San Marino Poland are a side that might have to be avoided over the next few matches, they are struggling to score and Olisadebe in particular missed stackes of chances in their last match on Saturday. However, I firmly believe that San Marino are the worst team in Europe out of all the minnows, Poland can be added to accies but at prices of 1/33 to 1/50, I think you might want to avoid taking them with a handicap - they just aren't good at scoring lots of goals. ********************************************** Croatia vs Andorra At 1/25 and similar proces, this match suprised me, as I expect Croatia to be the BIGGEST CERTS OF THE DAY. Croatia are on fire at the moment with Prso in particular playing out of his sklin for club and country. Andorra do set their stall out to defend as their narrow defeat to Belgium illustrated, nut any side that is playing at home and massacared Belgium on the same pitch only a few days ago 4-0 has to be fancied, even if Belgium gave as good as they got in the first half. Croatia will win by AT LEAST 2, but beware the defensive stance of Andorra when giving away the goals. I'd say Croatia -2 will deliver. Confidence; 10/10 Croatia Home win 9.5/10 Croatia to get a win by more than one goal (i.e. 2-0) 8.5 Croatia to get a win by more than 2 goals (i.e. 3-0) ********************************************** Luxembourg vs Norway Norway can be trusted to win this match - but not by a wide margin as Luxembourg have put in a couple of tight performances of late. Despite this, Norway are beginning to finally play to the sum of of their talented parts. Norway are putting in good perfromances this campaign, it's just a feeling I have Luxembourg have been tight of late. My doubts are catered for though by the bookies who afford them a comparitively generous 1/6 and similar price tags. Confidence; 9.5/10 Norway Away Win 9/10 Norway to get a win by more than one goal 8.5/10 ********************************************** Slovakia vs Leichtenstein Another cert IMO, Slovakia generally finish in a respectable location in most qualification groups of late (3rd and 4th's), and beat Macedonia 2-0 in Skopije at the weekend. Slovakia played well against England, taking the lead before England got out of jail much to my delight in the last couple of minutes (I'm Irish, BUT that goes out the window when you have 200 on England to win). Leichtenstein are statistically better at home than away from home - there points in qualifiers have all come in Vaduz. Slovakia by a couple, I fancy them to continue the onslaught against Leichtenstein, unlike Engalns who didn't bother after they got the opener, to my expense . Confidence; Slovakia Home Win 10/10 Slovakia to get more than a one goal win 9.5/10 Slovakia to get more than a two goal win 8.5/10 ********************************************** Other Matches I fancy; ********************************************** Czech Republic vs Austria Austria are continually found out by superior oppsoition evry campaign, Spain walloped them twice the last time, and Holland gave them a good beating as well. Czech Republic played well to earn a draw in the De kuip on Saturday and I can't see them throw away the advantage by failing to beat Austria at home - I expect to see the "monster" Koller terrify the Austrians, and really this is a match that the Czech's must win to harbour any ambitions of winning the group ahead of Holland which will be their intent after holding the Dutch with a solid performance. Confidence; Czech Republic Home Win 9.5/10 ********************************************** Spain vs Armenia I watched Armenia play against Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland were suprisingly the better side, and if youre outclassed by them, your'e in real trouble away to qualifier specialists Spain. Spain will absolutely annialiate Armenia, and if the bookie offers you the option of which match will be the biggest hammering, I would take this one, I know beofre Christmas, Ladbrokes did offer such as bet. Confidence; Spain Home Win 10/10 Spain to get more than a two goal winning margin 9.5/10 Level stake on each; 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 all 6/1 (Ensures that you will just over double your money if a level stake on all three, as long as one comes in). ********************************************** Denmark vs Bosnia Denmark had a very impressive 5-2 win away to Romania on Saturday, and look in good form. Add to this the Bosnian goalscorer Eliver Bolic is out with and injured leg and Danish home advantage a home win looks very nice indeed. The cover full back for Denmark, Rytter, however is out so Denmark's defence may be slightly suspect, though he went off early enough against the Romanians without much effect. Fancy the Danes for a home win - there just the stronger team on paper, in good recent form and at home. Confidence; Denmark Home Win 9/10 (Odds 2/7 and similiar prices) ********************************************** Estonia vs Bulgaria This one appeals to me as Bulgaria are in very good recent form and have won 3 from 3 so far and also won away to Yugoslavia in a friendly 2 - 1 last week. Bulgaria are clearly a better side than Estonia who were comfortably beaten home and away by Rep of Ireland last qualifying campaign. Petrov is out for Bulgaria but they still should have too much for an Estonia side than has not impressed me to date. I'm not saying that Bulgaria are a certainty to win, but odds up to 8/11 are excellent value IMO, as theve already beaten Croatia 2-0 and Belgium away 2-0. They would be very disappointed to loose this one. Confidence; Bulgaria Away Win 8/10 Bulgaria not to loose 10/10 ********************************************** Ukraine vs Latvia Ukraine looked very good agianst Spain, while Latvia are in a false position in this group make no mistake, they narrowly beat San Marino 1-0 with a last minute goal. Ukraine were as good as Spain on Saturday, and but for a couple of poor managerial substitutions with Shevchenko being taken off after an hour or so. Latvia's other win came in a narrow 1-0 home win against a poor Poland side. Ukraine got a dissapointing draw vs Northern Ireland in Belfast, but they looked a good side on Saturday and will have both Rebrov and Shevchenko available for this one. Confidence; Ukraine Home Win 9/10

International Footie Tips 2/Mar/2003 Forgot this one; Moldova vs Holland Holland will simply have too much for a Moldova side that are consistently bad and yet to get a point this set of qualifiers, and Holland, after failing to beat Czech Republic at home they won't suffer from complacency again here. Moldova are very poor and I cashed in on them big time vs Belarus on Saturday, as many of you know. Prices are approximately 1/20, but a nice one to add into those long, long accies ;) Confidence; Holland Away win 10/10

Agree I agree with most of whats been said and with that I have highlighted a bet which gives around 2.55 consisting of France, Denmark, Holland and Czech Rep. Seems pretty sure to me- certainly France and Holland anyway. Dnemark are playing well as are Czech and will surely win at home.

International Accy ... I am confident in the above picks, but chose to leave out the France game. I am thinking of going for an accy of: Denmark vs. Bosnia The Danes had an amazing result in Bucharest at the weekend. Beating Romania 5-2 is a major achievement, but to do it away from home is superb! Cant see the Bosnians competing here at all. And without Bolic I feel their main threat has gone. Prediction: 2-0/3-0 Moldova vs Netherlands The Netherlands dropped 2 valuable points in Rotterdam to the Czech and cant afford to lose any more points, especially against the minnows of Moldova. With such class players in their ranks the Dutch must overcome a Moldovan team who lost in Belarus at the weekend. Prediction: 0-2/0-3 Czech Republic vs Austria I my eyes Austria are a decent side and are capable of taking something from this game, but after reading about their injury problems I must go for the Czech here. They are very strong side and with crowd behind them in Prague the likes of Nedved, Koller, Smicer, Rosicky etc. should overwhelm an understrength Austria side! Prediction: 2-0/3-1 Spain vs Armenia I put this game in to take the odds to just over evens. Although Armenia beat Northern Ireland at the weekend, they will get easily beaten by the Spanish talents of Raul, Mendieta, Morientes, Baraja etc. Prediction: 3-0/4-0 these 4 returns just over evens with Bet365 I am thinking of going for 200pts :D :hat What do you guys think?

Re: International Accy ... i've already posted the france/czech double :hat but want to now add.... HT 4/6 FRANCE :D HT 4/6 CZECH :D -1 5/6 FRANCE - bloody french w**kers -1 10/11 CZECH:D thinking of adding these in also. sticking with only 2 games rather than the rest. I am just looking for the better odds & realise that 1/3 shots do not have the right to be winning at HT ..8o

Ireland on top of that since the general consesus is that Ireland are up against it in Albania does the 1X avaiable at Globet at 1.90 hold appeal?

France France play in Palermo - and the stadium is expected to be empty. This might affect the way the French big stars play as we've seen in many situations before with small crowds. But they should still beat a poor Israel smokin.gif
