Brazil - Argentina

Recommended Posts

Both teams here are unbeaten so far in the qualifying stages. Argentina's last two games involved a draw against bottom side Colombia and a narrow victory against second-bottom Ecuador. Crucial Team News: Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, still looking for a performance that will win back public confidence, has promised to attack Brazil in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier. Bielsa, who has first choice midfielders Juan Sebastian Veron, Matias Almeyda and Esteban Cambiasso all unavailable through injury or lack of match fitness, will give 19-year-old Javier Mascherano his international debut in central midfield. Argentina, also missing central defender and captain Roberto Ayala through suspension, lead the South American qualifying group with 11 points from five points but have yet to produce a performance which their fans believe justifies their potential. Bielsa has confirmed that under-fire goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero will start the game as well as River Plate's Mascherano, who played for the under-23 team in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Chile World champions Brazil, without injured Barcelona striker Ronaldinho, are two points behind in third place, having drawn their last three qualifiers, but April's 4-1 friendly win in Hungary has restored some faith in the team. Volatile Sao Paulo striker Luis Fabiano, who scored twice against Hungary, will partner Ronaldo in attack for Brazil after Ronaldinho was ruled out with a thigh strain. Likely Sides: Brazil - 1-Dida; 2-Cafu, 3-Juan, 4-Roque Junior, 6-Roberto Carlos; 5-Edmilson, 8-Juninho Pernambucano, 11-Ze Roberto, 10-Kaka; 9-Ronaldo, 7-Luis Fabiano Argentina - 1-Pablo Cavallero; 2-Facundo Quiroga, 6-Walter Samuel, 4-Gabriel Heinze; 8-Javier Zanetti, 15-Javier Mascherano, 3-Juan Pablo Sorin, 16-Pablo Aimar, 18-Cristian Gonzalez; 9-Hernan Crespo, 19-Cesar Delgado With uninspiring performances in their last two matches and a number of key players missing from the side, Argentina may very well struggle. Although theyre unbeaten, Brazil were the only side to beat them during qualifying for the 2004 WC too. Brazil look a good bet to me between 11/10 and Evs.

Brazil - Argentina good post. :) I first looked at Brazil in this match and thought they were a good bet, dont mind Ronaldinho being injured as Luis Fabiano plays and he will be as good as Ronaldo IMO. The thing that has put me off backing them if the back 3, I just cant trust a side that has Juan and Roque Junior at centre halves no matter how good they are going forward, Pablo Aimar could have a field day so no bet for me. :) Im definately going to be laying Ecuador though in the other match, Colombia picked up last game with a win in Peru and that really stands to form considering Peru's result last night. Ecuador have lost the nucleus of the side that performed so well 4 years ago and Ill happily lay at 2.3 :)
