The first big Chase of season and looks a wide open contest, quite excited but cant make my mind up what i fancy and think it will be better watched than punted. Still looking however and would be intresting to get everyone else's veiws to help me.

A proper race, contested by proper steeplechasers and run at a proper pace from the outset. Plenty of credit should be handed to OLLIE MAGERN, and also to his trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies for getting him so fit and healthy first time out after eight months off. Connections must have been confident of his fitness because Carl Llewellyn quickly had him at the head of affairs, denying Grey Abbey of his usual front-running role. Although he took one or two chancey leaps, Ollie Magern was quick across his fences and he never looked likely to stop galloping. Sticking to his guns in terrific style in the final straight, when strongly pressed, he saw his race out in willing fashion. He now goes for the Betfair Chase, setting-up a tantalising clash with Kicking Kick and Best Mate. In the meantime, his odds have been slashed for the Gold Cup, which he was forced to miss last year after incurring an injury, to around 12-1 and even less with some firms. It should be remembered that he was giving 5lb to both the second and third. Kingscliff, runner-up to Kicking King in last season's King George, made a most satisfactory return to action. He had a chance of winning all the way up the straight, but could never quite reel-in the winner. A horse, who has had little racing in the last couple of years, he can surely improve as a result of this outing and he promises to prove a formidable rival wherever he appears. Take The Stand, last season's Gold Cup runner-up, ran a blinder on ground slower than ideal for him. His jumping wasn't too fluent at times, but he showed what a big engine he possesses by continually coming back on the bridle and it was only the final battle from the third-last which caught him out. He is capable of winning a major prize when things fall his way.

I have looking at the last 10 years trends those aged 8, 9 & 10 have won 8/10 5/10 favs have won (1 out of last 5) 4/10 have carried 11st 10lb or more 3/10 have carried less than 11st 4lb 7/10 had a rating (RPR) of 162 or higher 8/10 started 5/1 or less taking that into consideration, we have: Kingscliff, Our Vic, Sir Rembrandt, Iris's Gift, jaloux Destruval, royal emperor, take the stand whittled down to kingscliff, our vic & sir rembrandt KINGSCLIFF is my selection on the favoured ground conditions & trainer Alner has hit form recently, i think if it had been on the faster side, Take the Stand would be a decent bet off that low weight. Our Vic & Sir Rembrandt should be thereabouts. Dont get put off Neptune Collonges, it did win chases in France so has experience but i just feel it is too young up against these experienced rivals.

they also make it favourite at 3/1. If Ruby was on it, fair enough but Sam Thomas?? i dont think it holds any value in such a big race. Nicholls will want it to be given an easy race IMO.

Just what I thinking the trends say it all. Just looking at last years winner Ollie Magern I think alot will depend on the stables in form. Twiston Davies's horse won this last year and when in to be a flop for rest of the season. So I may be inclined to go with you Bowlsey and back the in form stable. Or maybe Take the Stand the only horse allreading having had a run this season.

Re: Bet 365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.25 Wetherby) TAKE THE STAND Beaten Length and a half by Kingscliff in last years race off level weights over same conditions. Kingscliff gives it 10lbs today and Take The Stand has the benefit of a warm up run over hurdles recently. He is the one for me.

On the face of it it would be a tough task for the classy last season Novice. however I have heard Hourigan speak very highly of him this season saying he had higher hopes this season for this horse than Beef Or Salmon or Mossbank:loon .And having swerved a trip to England last year for Cheltenham and Aintree surley they wouldnt make the trip over for nothing.

still wouldnt get my money :\ 3/1 in this class doesnt sound right minus the Ruby factor also. Nicholls has written in the RP, this is his best chance of a winner today!! That remark defies belief in this type of race.

well my trends brought about the winner & the 3rd so not too bad. kingscliff was 4th.
