Chester 3 day Meeting - Wednesday 10th May 2006

Recommended Posts

Right now it feels like the Flat has started as the Guineas meeting has gone and wonderful quaint Chester's 3 day May meeting kicks off. I have a few early fancies as wanting to get the value now off Betfair before it all goes. Weather & Going: The ground is currently riding Good and after a dry morning the afternoon is due to have some heavy outbreaks of rain. So I would forecast on the Soft side of Good depending on how heavy the rain gets! 1.50 Race : Cav Okay This horse is like a Greyhound out of the stalls and had it's last race won a furlong and a half from the start as it flew out made all at Newbury over same distance. Now it has a great stall position 1 from the rail in 2 and we all know what the draw effect is like in sprints and to be honest most races at Chester! Simply put this horse won't sight another horse until it's pulled up after the line! Here is a what Richard Hannon it's trainer had to say after it's one and only run; "I’ve never seen a horse leave the gates like he does at home and I thought if he gets the five furlongs he would win and he got it alright as Richard Hughes had a job to pull him up. It’s obviously early days but you would have to think about something like the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot for him after that". - Richard Hannon, trainer OK we ain't gonna be rich after this wins but hey it's a nice morale booster for the rest of the meeting and if you can get a better price than @1.40 it's current price on BetFair, snap their hand off! 2.20 Leave alone! This just looks like a race the bookies will love as several of these horses are in form! and with the uniqueness of Chester it's hard to predict who is going to act on the track! 2.50 Chester Cup: Swift Sailor This looks a massive price on BetFair for the horse who was runner up in this race last year after only 4 runs! He met an on blob Anak Pekan last year who was winning this race for the 2nd year in a row! Swift Sailor has changed stables since and gone to another adept trainer in GL Moore who is in fair form over the jumps and flat. He has had one prep run over an inadequate trip last time (1m 4F) and likes Good & Soft ground and will be suited by the distance and track! Solid each-way bet currently trading at @36.00 on BetFair @4.80 for a place. 3.20: Tiger Tiger Again this looks a massive price for a horse who sluiced in, in this same race last year! drawn 10 then and now drawn 14 doesn't necessarily put me off as his trainer has stated that it likes turning tracks like Chester and it has already proven it can win here with a high draw! Trainer has stated it needs give in the ground which with the anticipated showers for the afternoon I feel it will get! Has been racing recently at Lingfield only showing fair form, however Lingfield is considered more of a quick going track so I'm hoping the ground softens up sufficiently for him! Another Solid each-way bet currently trading at @13.5 on BetFair @3.95 for a place. (Although I may wait for the morning early bird price as a lot of people will be put off by it's draw position) 4.00: Leave alone! There's gonna be another short priced favourite in Galient and it's up against some other potentially decent in form horses, again with the uniqueness of Chester - some are gonna love it and some are going to hate it! 4.35: 2 against the short priced favourite! Baileys Hilight Has been fast away both starts on soft going and not quite getting home. Johnstone has stated this horse will be seen in a better light on decent going and it's drawn in stall 3, so good chance that this can be up with my other selection and maybe get a win or a place! Another solid each-way bet currently trading at @10.5 on BetFair @2.60 for a place. Miss Kool Kat Another who has been fast away both starts and on it's last run it was favourite and couldn't quite bag the rail which seem to make the horse sulk and it dropped away fairly tamely after showing up for a long way over 5F G/S at Beverley. It's drawn 1 next to the rail here and has probably one of the best Jockeys who can ride a horse from the front in Philip Robinson and I can see this horse scraping the paint all the way up to the line with my other selection in close attendance. Another solid each-way bet currently trading at @10.00 on BetFair @2.00 for a place. The reason I'm opposing the favourite Captain Marvellous in this race is that it was slow away on it's one and only start and did make ground and look dangerous at one point over 5F G/F Newmarket, however it seemed to bottom out in the end, maybe it was greeness I just don't know! however I'm willing to take this horse on with the above 2, as it has an awkward draw in 4 against 2 horses nearer the rail than him who have proven speed from the gate! Well there goes! hope everyone the best of luck at Chester and if anybody is going, it's a great little track and some nice totty around... Regards,

Re: Chester 3 day Meeting - Wednesday 10th May 2006 2.20 Allegretto - will improve for the better conditions here after finding the soft going on debut tough going first time out, she stuck on well that showing that the step up in trip could well suit her, She looked more of a stayer that day. Shout e/w - caught the eye running green in behind the leaders and given a nice introduction ride by Steve Drowne which could only be described as hands and Heels, she should improve for that experience for a usual strong Newbury Maiden 3.20 Focus Group - is better then he showed at Pontefacht and will come on for that performance the ground may well have found him out Fairmile - Farmile is likely to go well today, last run he needed the blow and found the 14F a little to testing, this sharp 10 and fair draw could see him go well, the stable are in form now.

Re: Chester 3 day Meeting - Wednesday 10th May 2006 copied from my thread, these are my bets today, GL all. 1.50 LORD CHARLES 10pts place @ 2.28 Betfair Not taking a chance against the likely winner Cav Okay who has been touted as the fastest 2yo seen this season. hannon over the years has trained some decent ones & he says it's fast then i believe him. Lord Charles though does not know how to give in which is essential on this track & with the no.1 berth should be on the inside throughout & may surprise the favourite a little. Gilded beat it LTO & that horse went in again last week. 2.20 MONT ETOILE 5pts ew @ 12/1 Ladbrokes Won over the distance LTO when a very strong finishing run got it up on the line, didnt have a clear run inside the last 2f, but switched out, i liked the way the horse found more to win the race. Up in class today but haggas's form cannot be ignored. 2.50 CONTACT DANCER 5pts ew @ 11/1 Blue Sq Third in this last year beaten 2.25L by Anak pekan, & 4lb higher now in the weights. Has been campaigned over the hurdles this year with some reasonable efforts in big fields. Fallon takes his only ride on the day & that's good enough for me at one of his favourite tracks for winners. 3.20 DIVINE GIFT 5pts ew @ 6/1 Ladbrokes Cannot see this out of the top 3 here. 2nd last year behind Tiger Tiger (4lb better off for 2.5L defeat). Ran well LTO at Epsom behind All that & more to finish 3rd. Course form counts here & that effort last year puts this & Tiger Tiger in the frame for me but i cant ignore that 4lb pull in Divine Gifts favour. Captain Marvellous in the final race but those odds are too skinny for a 2yo who was slow out of the blocks first time out, so i will avoid that one.

Re: Chester 3 day Meeting - Wednesday 10th May 2006 I Agree with both jonesy and bowles on the first race at Chester everything looks good for the Fav and those who lump on at around the 2/5 mark should be hoping to buy some money as it jumps out gets to the fence and makes all. Since bowles posted the place market on betfair looks even better although unfortunately there are only 7 runners which means only two places at this moment mubaashir and lord charles are trading at 2.16 and 2.48 respectively therefore if you think they are the dangers could actually back both for a small profit. Im afraid i am actually going to against bowles and back mubaashir for a place and the fav to win the race. :ok :ok

well done Chopper, won in good style, the favourite looked a lay once i had seen it lining up, 4/11 against 4 other winners doesnt sound right to me. Lord C ran well until the business end of the race & finished 4th not beaten more than 1.5L.

Re: Chester 3 day Meeting - Wednesday 10th May 2006 Divine Gift wins @ 6/1 :nana , a profitable day for me. Sensibleboy, i dont think its overrated, as you get some decent types here & the course is a specialist track (no worse than Epsom!). The big trainers & jockeys turn up also. Its a hard meeting to pick winners as they have to like the quick bends & not all horses do.
