Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required Hi Mike, I'm a regular down there (as regular as my bank balance will allow anyway) - great club - Saturday they have a £5 rebuy tourney at 2pm, usually attracts 100 people. Cash games start when enough tables free up, usually 25p/50p blinds, and dealer dealt. Think there's a £100 tourney at night, check their website though - www.gutshot.com the bar and restaurant bit's nice, usually have the footie on if its a weekend, and some of the tastiest barmaids around ;)

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required This place sounds quality, I'll have to show my face the next time I'm in London. Stonecold: If it's anything like my local casino where you have to deal yourself then no you won't be laughed off. People are very helpful and tolerant of people who can't shuffle/deal. After all most people take it as a sign you're a newb and you're money is there for the taking so they want to be nice to you :lol:rollin:lol

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required yeah don;t worry. there are some people who can;t even shuffle and will ask others to shuffle for them - its a beginners' game in the afternoon so no-one minds. Might come down on the 25th, but holding a big pub game in London in the evening, so might be tricky (especially if I get to the final table :))

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required Hi Ksportz I've been down to the Gutshot on a Saturday night before (My 31st birthday). If you play in the £100 main-event (it's a freezout) dealers are supplied. It was a bit of a relief for me too, and mean't I could concentrate on the more relevant stuff, like being afraid of all the other players at my tables etc! Just kidding, It was good fun and I would definitely recommend it, it's such a great environment, full of Poker enthusiasts and a full bar and great burgers. (Though the gutshot looks a lot more ropey in real life than it looks on their website!)

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required Found this which may be of interest: There’s a saying that the outcome of any given poker hand is 90 percent luck and 10 percent skill. What the precise percentage of each goes into being a successful poker player could be crucial for English poker players, as a popular London card room goes on trial for breaking the country’s Gaming Act. The owners of the Gutshot, a card club that boasts 12,000 members, will be tried for breaking the 1968 law on two counts, including the taking of a rake from players’ winnings. The case will be decided in the coming weeks at a London magistrates court. English law says games of skill like chess, bridge and billiards can be played in private members’ clubs for money. Games of chance like roulette and craps are restricted to licensed casinos. The case will hinge on whether games of poker are decided more by skill or by luck. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police of London said the case was unusual in several respects, particularly because the accused freely admit they were doing what the police say they were. “We’re saying ‘You did this,’ and they’re saying ‘Yes we did. But we don’t think we’ve done anything wrong’,” Darren Warner told the Times of London. Derek Kelly, who owns the club, claimed “poker is a game dominated by skill.” “Provided you are more able, ultimately you will be the winner,” he told the Times. “Like any game or sport, there are elements of luck. However, the more skillful player will win out in the end.” The case will cast a light on similar disputes in the U.S., where advocates of liberalized gambling laws have argued that poker should be recognized as a game of skill.

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required I must be honest I found that article very interesting. There is a poker club in Manchester who are doing well, and that had me wondering whether a club like that would work in Stoke, but I wouldn't even begin to look into it seriously until I knew the outcome of this court case.

I play bridge a lot better than I play poker. Both games involve both skill and luck. One of the best ever bridge players believed that a good player would win much more consistently at poker than at bridge (or at least, at the versions of bridge that are most commonly played for money).

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required So that's how thaty get round it. We were talking about this on saturday, very interesting article and a very interesting argument. I agree that there has to be a larger element of skill than luck otherwise it wouldnt be the same faces making the final stages of the WSOP year in year out.

Re: Gutshot - London - Info Required This is a massive court case. If it goes in the gutshot's favour then surely you could hold card-nights in any public place. Get a fold-up table and all the gear put it in the back of a transit van and tour the pubs doing poker nights. Make a killing:nana
