StevieDay1983
Besiktas vs Istanbul Basaksehir It's a long overdue preview for the Turkish Super Lig but after the postponement of the Premier League and Championship games this weekend I felt it was a great opportunity to visit this exciting league. Besiktas play Istanbul Basaksehir in a 5pm BST kick-off on Monday afternoon from the Vodafone Park in Istanbul as these two city rivals go head-to-head in an early season epic clash. Besiktas are on a mission to make a return to European competition after finishing in a disappointing 6th place last season. Valerien Ismael was appointed as the head coach in March this year as the club made an encouraging conclusion to their season. This campaign has picked up where Ismael left off last year with the team in 2nd position having gone unbeaten in their opening 5 league games with 4 wins from those first batch of games. The fact that the Black Eagles have scored 14 goals in those 5 games shows the attacking threat they pose. There are still those claiming that this Besiktas team is yet to be properly challenged though so this will be the real acid test for the team. It is 3 wins on the bounce in the league though and Dele Alli is proving to be quite the shrewd acquisition as he looks to get his career back on track. Istanbul Basaksehir will be looking to return to their glory days with the team winning the Super Lig title as recently as 2019/20. Emre Belozoglu is the man given the responsibility of that task and with the team sitting in 4th place after 4 league games having gone unbeaten so far it's appearing to be a positive start. The Grey Owls haven't even conceded a league goal yet which is an impressive feat in itself. The team have benefited from the scoring form of Danijel Aleksic with the Serbian front man bagging 5 goals already. If the fans weren't already excited enough by the club's start then their 4-0 demolition of Scottish Premiership club Hearts in the first round of group stage games in the Europa Conference League will have boosted spirits amongst the supporter base even more. This fixture is one that has become synonymous with epic scoring affairs. Each of the last four meetings between Besiktas and Istanbul Basaksehir have seen at least 4 goals scored. Given the fact both teams are proving that they know where the net is this season then I expect a similar outcome here. That said, this Basaksehir defence is something to behold and they are yet to concede a goal in domestic action this season. That could change here against a prolific Besiktas attack firing on their own turf.
